Harry really was spoiling his sixth year class but he sure as hell wasn’t complaining and he was pretty sure that his class weren’t complaining either – a field trip every other week was definitely not something to complain about. Especially today, Harry wasn’t complaining about a field trip as it was very close to his heart with the location being his own home country. He was glad that the class had decided to arrive on time today so he could have as much time as possible and probably more on location. “Not much time to waste today class but it’s a field trip so you know the drill.” he called over them as he lead the way over to the old kettle that they used as a portkey for all of their field trips. Counting down he reached for the kettle at the same time as his students and soon the familiar sensation that came with travelling via portkey, luckily it was something that Harry was well used too by now so when his feet hit hard ground it was easy for him to gain his composure. “Ahh home.” he said as he took in the views around them before turning to the class. There was an immediate change in weather, coming from lovely warm New Zealand to cold Scotland – he really should have warned his students in advance. “Welcome to bonny Scotland.” he said, his Scottish accent becoming more apparent now that it usually was. “Lovely weather, isn’t it?” he said saracastically with a small laugh as he saw a few of the student trying to warm themselves up. “Continuing our study of Water Creatures, this brings us on to Kelpies. Can anyone tell me what a Kelpie is?” Harry asked. A student stuck their hand up. “Yes?” Harry asked. “A Kelpie is a water demon that is native to England, and is a shape shifter.” Smiling at the student Harry said, “Correct” Taking a mental note of the student for later. “A Kelpie is a water demon native to Britain and Ireland. Able to take any form, they usually take the form of a horse with a bullrush mane. After luring unwary travellers onto their backs, they drag them underwater and eat them, allowing the entrails to float to the surface of the water. The largest reported Kelpie is the Loch Ness Monster that resides in Loch Ness here.” Harry said as he turned to face the huge body of water. “The Loch Ness Monster, as it is popularly known, is actually the world's largest Kelpie. Its favourite shape is that of a Sea Serpent. Wizard observers from the International Confederation of Wizards discovered it was a Kelpie when they observed it changing into an otter on the approach of a team of Muggle investigators, then back into a Sea Serpent. The Office of Misinformation has worked diligently, convincing the Muggles that all photographic evidence of "Nessie" is actually fake.” he told them. He knew that some of his students surely came from some sort of muggle background and would know the story of The Loch Ness Monster quite well and now knew the truth. With his eyes still on the body of water he squinty slightly before saying, “Look there guys. Quickly. See it?” Harry asked gesturing ahead of him. It appeared to be a serpent of some kind. ![]() “That is the famous Loch Ness Monster. Something of a rare jewel. I think that we are quite lucky in witnessing this Kelpie.” He told them as he watched it submerge underwater once again. Harry looked at his watch. “Time has gotten the better of us today. It’s time to go” With that Harry moved back to the old kettle and was soon back on Hogwarts grounds, laughing slightly as he watched the students defrost. Dismissing them he moved to his office to do up the paperwork on the field trip – the worst part of field trips.
