Care of Magical Creatures Professor (Years 5-7)

Harry was excited about this lesson as he had something in store for the students that he hoped they would appreciate and if they didn’t he sure would. Sometimes he felt very lucky to have connections in the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures Department as they were more than useful when it came to his lessons, be it like today when they were able to supply him with interesting creatures or just general information that he didn’t know or wasn’t able to obtain easily. When the class started to arrive Harry beamed as he contained his excitement to see the student’s reactions when they saw what he had in store for them today. When the class had arrived and he made sure they were all there he spoke over them so they knew to lower their voices. "A friend of mine," Professor Thornton said to began the lesson, scanning the class. "Yes I have friends." Jonathan said jokingly, beating any smart alec to that joke. Granted he didn’t have many but he wasn’t going to let his class know that. "Dont all look surprised. Now back to the lesson. A friend of mine lent me a very precious creature. He is neither his pet nor his property as this magical creature belongs to itself only.” he told them. He enjoyed being very ominous with his classes as he felt it kept them in suspense. “They bond with a witch or wizard and when that witch or wizard dies then they leave them. This is very very rare bonding." Harry told them as he knew very little people or stories of people who had made this bond. Harry summoned a cage that he been hidden from the classes view so as not to distract them while he was talking. Lifting the cover off the cage Harry revealed a very ruby red, aged Phoenix. The phoenix sat on its perch looking quite knobbly and almost like a plucked swan. It started to wilt and make gagging noises before it burst into beautiful flames. Harry had timed this well with his friend and smiled when he saw that the planning had gone just as it was planned. Looking at the class he saw a few alarmed faces. “Don’t worry yourselves.” Harry said in a calm voice. “What you see here is called their Burning Day. They burst into flames and are reborn from the ashes. Soon they look as magnificent.” he told them to clear up any confusion among the class. “Now Phoenix tears have magical properties. Can anyone impress me and tell me what they are? Yes you.” Harry said pointing at the first hand that shot up. “Correctamundo!” Jonathan said “Take two house points.” Harry said as he made a note of the student. "Right for the rest of the lesson, please write up about the Phoenix, images would get you a better mark and feel free to stroke the Phoenix” Harry said smiling. The class seemed to get more interested when they knew they would get to stroke the Phoenix, but they had to do their essay on the Phoenix first as it took a few minutes for it to be reborn and he didn’t want to scare the poor thing just as it was born. Never had he imagined a class would get their work done so quickly but he chuckled softly, at least they did their work. While the students attended the Phoenix Harry made a start on marking the work that his class had just done, while keeping an eye on them as he was very cautious over the bird, he had a lot of responsibility with it and while he trusted his class he didn’t want anything to happen to it. When the class came to an end Harry stood up and made his way over to the cage where the class were gathered around the Phoenix. "I've got to get send him back soon. Class dismissed." The Phoenix regarded them with a calm expression before it opened its beak and began singing. Instantly everyone within hearing distance became befuddled with calmness. Smiling softly, Harry let out a relaxed sigh, he almost wished he didn’t have to send it back. Homework: For full marks: RP the lesson. Please be creative. For extra credit: Do a small essay on Phoenix’s First poster: Please answer my question to receive bonus house points. |
