Stepping into the third greenhouse situated on the school grounds, Sage, with his long brownish blonde hair tied behind his back and horn-rimmed glasses hanging off the bridge of his nose, he eyed the group of second years that had assembled in the classroom. Though not so much round faced or eager eyed as the first years, these second years watched him just as expectantly as they waited for class to commence. “Good morning, good morning and welcome back to Hogwarts second years,” he said brightly, clapping his dragon hide gloves together, “I am your new Herbology instructor, Professor Woods and will be addressed as such. Now I'll spare you all the boring introductions to the class as I'm pretty sure you all remember much from last term but I will say that this term will be quite exciting for you all. This term we will be planting and caring for the Mandrake. I will go further into that particular plant next class. As for right now, I would like you all to focus your attention on the troughs directly before you.” The troughs contained young daisies that had been planted a few weeks before. “Though quite a common wildflower, the daisy is an important plant particularly for Potioneers. As it is, can someone tell me which particular part of the daisy is commonly used in potions?” “The roots, sir,” one eager student replied and Sage smiled and nodded. “Right you are, five points to your House,”(Five points to the student who supplies this answer first.) “Now I would like everyone to take out a sheet of parchment, quill, and ink and draw a picture of the daisy plant and label each part. You will turn this in after class today. Your homework is written on the blackboard and you'll copy this down as well. All homework will be collected next class and graded. I'm a very fair grader and have no tolerance for laziness. If you have any academic concerns with your standing in this class, my office is always open. That being said, you can all get started.” Sage watched the students diligently begin to draw their daisies and label the parts of the plant. Before long the bell signaling the end of class sounded and Sage had the students bring their finished classwork to the front of the room so he could collect them. “All right, class dismissed. I'll see you all next week.” Homework: RP today's lesson. Write a 100-200 word essay on the importance of Herbology in the wizarding world. Discuss the uses of well known plants and why it is important in our world to learn how to properly care and cultivate these plants. For extra credit, name a specific potion that would be impossible to brew without the parts of certain plants that are discussed in class. Grades will be based on word count and creativity.
