Kalif leaned against his desk as usual, waiting for his students to arrive. He smirked as they took their seats. He was disappointed that he couldn’t show them the plant they were going to go over today, however, he didn’t want to have to explain why there were dead, strangled teenagers in his classroom. He motioned for the chalkboard to come closer to him and out of the corner.

Kalif said in a cold voice, “Greetings. Now today, I won’t be able to show you what we will be learning about this week. Not everything is properly prepared. It can cause death, like it did Broderick Bode in St. Mungo’s. It can be mistaken easily for a Flitterbloom, what you learned last year. If you don’t know what I am talking about, here is a picture of it.” He tapped the chalkboard, and an image of a plant appeared.

“Devil’s Snare. It is a dangerous plant indeed. I have connections to receiving it, like most people in my position do. It has the power to constrict or strangle its surrounding environment. That also includes people. If struggling occurs, then it will exert even greater strength, thus, killing faster. In 1998, Pomona Sprout used it against the attacking Death Eaters in the war that occurred.”

Kalif tapped the picture again, and it vanished. It retreated back into the corner. “The only known defense against it is either sunlight or fire, natural or artificial. In light, the plant doesn’t move, and in fire, it recoils. It is sensitive to both of them. And, if you were to get caught up in one, that may be the only method to save your life.”

Kalif stood up straight and said, “I have nothing more planned. However, write a short essay about what you would do if you were to be taken by the Devil’s Snare. You may leave.”

Homework: RP the lesson for full credit. The essay is for two extra credit points.
