Patriarch of the Zhefarovich Family, Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Slytherin Head of House, Former Death Eater, Legilimens, Occlumens

Kalif walked from the castle into the chilly air. The dawn was too beautiful, and Kalif didn’t bother to give it one glance. He took a deep breath as his black eyes saw the greenhouses ahead. His long, black robes fluttered behind him. His hair, spiked naturally, flew back in the slight breeze. He walked into Greenhouse One and saw the surroundings, taking it in. Inside the large, glittering green structure, stray rays of sunlight beamed through to illuminate the long, battle scarred work table. Along one wall, which appeared black at first glance, was a row of hooks which hung many worn, yet clean work robes in all shapes and sizes. There were a few earmuffs piled on a corner shelf, freshly stuffed and shabby. There were many shelves along the other wall filled with chipped pots of many different sizes and work tools.

Kalif went to the desk he had set up and leaned against it for support. He looked up at the first years coming toward the Greenhouse. Kalif looked cold and intimidating, and the one thing he was, it was a strict professor. No exceptions about that.. As they filed in, Kalif waved his hand, telling them to quiet down and sit down on the stools around the table. Kalif flicked his wand at the door, shutting it. He folded his arms, wand still in hand.

He greeted in a low, cold voice, also booming with authority as well, “Good morning, and welcome to Herbology. Take out your quills, ink, and parchment.” He paused, making sure everyone had done so. Kalif decided to introduce himself before proceeding, “My name is Kalif Styx, and I will be referred to as Professor Styx. No first name basis. I can be calm to you, and if you give me any trouble, I can be cruel as well. I have a few rules: One, no talking while I am talking; two, there will be no disrespecting in my class; three, you must put all effort into this class. No exceptions; four, all materials must be brought here.” He continued to give out his heartless stare to the class. “Also, no house is special in my eyes. So, I am not prejudice against any house, even if I did happen to come from Slytherin.”

Kalif's dark eyes scanned the room. He continued, “This is lesson one in Herbology. Herbology is a very important subject as it deals directly with our environment. What is the definition of Herbology? Anyone?” Kalif gazed upon the class. One student raised their hand. Kalif nodded at them let them know he acknowledged them to continue.

"Herbology is the study of magical plants," they said. Kalif gave a single nod to ensure the student they were correct.

Kalif turned around to have his back facing the students, “Prepare to take notes, and they must be good as well. I’ll make sure you have them.” He turned around again and began his lecture, “Herbology is the study of magical plants and fungi, including their care and their magical properties and uses. Some magical plants form important ingredients in potions, while others have magical effects in their own right. We use magical plants to cure illnesses and to make life a bit more tolerable.”

Kalif pointed at the chalkboard, “These are the class rules. And also the Points and Grading Systems are the same, but I will go over them, considering you are first years.” He explained everything thoroughly, and didn’t repeat anything. He then went over the supplies list. Kalif added, "I must tell you though, I am extremely strict. In order to pass this class with an O, you must give me your best effort, even if it isn't good enough."

Kalif watched the students, before wrapping up the lesson, “Use the rest of your time to write an essay on any plant you think will be used for Herbology. Make it a reasonable length, as well as neat so I can recognize what exactly you are writing. They are due by the next lesson. You may leave now." Kalif leaned against the desk once again.

From there mere second Tracey set eyes on Styx, she despised him. It was obvious he would not hesitate in punishment...and Tracey found that cruel. Although she did not like the said professor, she had to respect him anyway. Tracey was a quick writer and wrote her notes quickly and efficiently. Sometimes Tracey wondered if she was placed in the wrong house. She was smart, and brave, and devious.

When Styx finished his lecture and the worst ever lesson over with, Tracey practically jumped from her seat and rushed to her next lesson.

Devils Snare

Devils Snare is a personal favorite of mine. It seems to kill the victim a slow and agonizing death, but with the right skill of wizardry, it is easy to tame. Devils Snare is a plant that is effected by sun and a good spell for that is Lumos Maximum, although it is highly recommended for level two wizards and witches.

Devil snare appears as a snake like plant and is sometimes slimy.
I hope we learn more about Devils Snare. It is an interesting plant and I want to find out how to care and also tame this deadly plant.

Herbology. For James that was pretty interesting lesson. You can learn about new plants, that you like never heard about. There are lot students that don't like this subject and think this is boring, but Slytherin don't thinks that. Yes, maybe Herbology lessons sometimes may be booring, but not for Sun. James just thinked he will like this subject, because in his Muggle school, he liked Biology. That was interesting subject. At Herbology there will be more interesting that at Biology.

James entered Herbology Greenhouse. That was his first Herbology lesson. Slytherin was very happy. How not to be happy? Lesson started and professor started to talk. James rushed to his next lesson.

Slytherin Graduate - Hit Wizard

--Now this was a lesson, no a class, that Zayne Baros had no idea what to think of when he arrived there. Herbology. With his Head of House. There was no joke about this professor from what he had heard and what he had saw in the Great Hall, and also walking about the Slytherin House. Zayne would not go as far as saying that the man was evil, but he just seemed strict to the core. He did represent Slytherin, so that might have been it as well. Zayne donned on his Slytherin robes, and did his best to look as good as he could for class. He grabbed his things and exited the dungeons. The walk to the greenhouses was rather short. Though he felt for the Ravenclaws when they had to walk to the Greenhouses. This time though, they had lessons with Hufflepuff. Zayne was not too worried about that, because no one ever bothered him or found the reason to actually. He entered the greenhouse and his eyes waved over two other students, and then the his eyes landed on Professor Styx. Zayne could feel the air in the greenhouses seem a little colder than normal, but maybe it was the goosebumps. He just took a seat near the front of the classroom, no idea why he did. They were told to quiet down, and then the doors shut. That was the signal that the class was beginning.

--The low, cold voice was enough to wake someone up like a bucket of ice cold water. They were ordered to take out their ink, quill and parchment. Without hesitation, Zayne did just that. Amazing on how well he behaved. Never had he done that without thinking. There were no first name basis with him, so he probably would not address students by their first names either. After writing down the rules, he sectioned off a part just for notes. And then a question was asked of the class. Did Zayne dare to raise his hand? Slowly, his hand went into the air, and decided to see if he knew the answer to the question.
Notes and Rules
Herbology
Rules
- Refer to as Professor Styx
- Can be cruel when provoked
- No disrespecting
- All effort must be applied
- Materials are not to be left behind
- Not prejudice against any house

Notes
- Herbology is the study of magical plants and fungi, including their care and their magical properties and uses
- Some magical plants form important ingredients in potions, while others have magical effects in their own right
- We use magical plants to cure illnesses and to make life a bit more tolerable.
--"Herbology is the study of magical plants," spoke Zayne, and there was a nod to say that he was correct. Zayne felt a little more comfortable now knowing that he knew something in this class rather than nothing at all. Zayne needed this boost of confidence actually. The Slytherin needed to know what it was like to actually be smart in a strict class. Then he would not have to worry so much over the essays and things such as that. The notes seemed a little easy to remember too. The real fun must begin after the lesson, well the first lesson anyway. The rest of the time was used to write an essay. They were due by the next lesson. Once they were dismissed, Zayne hurried to the dungeons where he went into the Slytherin house, and got started on his essay. Turns out, he knew a lot more about plants then he thought he did actually.

Herbology, Lesson One

Mandrake
Mandrakes are plants that are shaped like small children and the bodies are brown and buried, like roots. They have different ages, but a full grown mandrake's cry can kill a person if heard. The females and the males differ, but once the acne and everything is cleared up, they can be chopped up, and stewed into a potion that heals students from petrification.

Hades Styx II

Animagus - Obliviator - Sinister

--Herbology was another class that Hades Lutrov II did not think that he would enjoy at all. It was all about plants, and though it went hand in hand with potions, perhaps the professor that taught it was nothing more than a hippy or something. Oh how he would be proven wrong. Packing his things, Hades went out of the House and through the castle, out onto the lawn and into the greenhouses. Hades turned his onyx eyes to see the professor, and not just any professor but his grandfather. Professor Styx was also the Head of the Slytherin house as well. Hades smirked lightly, before he took a seat next to a Slytherin close to the front of the classroom. Hades was completely unaware that this boy was the attention of Kaia Lutrova recently. Hades stared ahead, and he waited for the other students to arrive. He did hope that no one would really take anything here for granted. Hades learned so many things from Professor Styx from his father, and knew what type of man he was (though Hades knew nothing of Death Eaters just yet). The only thing he knew of was the Dark Lord, not the name, and how he tried to make a beautiful difference in the world, until everyone shut him down and those others were none other than blood traitors and mudblood lovers. After everyone was seated and silenced, the doors closed and the lesson had begun.

--Professor Styx's voice was like no other in the school, and Hades knew that this was the type of professor he had been looking for. Anyone from his family with that cold voice was enough to make anyone pay attention with all their might. Once they were ordered to take out some equipment to take some notes, Hades did just that. He started writing down the rules and then it was onto the notes for the class. The class itself he knew would be a good class so he did not think anything of it.
Notes and Rules
Herbology
Rules
- Professor Styx is the only name used
- Can be cruel and no disrespecting
- All effort must be applied
- Materials are not to be left behind in the dorms

Notes
- Herbology is the study of magical plants and fungi, including their care and their magical properties and uses
- Some magical plants form important ingredients in potions, while others have magical effects in their own right
- We use magical plants to cure illnesses and to make life a bit more tolerable
--Once the notes were taken care of, Hades wondered what they would be doing here soon. Hades casually glanced over at the kid next to him, seeing him write his name down on a sheet of parchment, over the notes and rules. He knew who this kid was, just by seeing the last name. Baros. Hades said nothing, but he would have to see if this was the boy that Kaia was so into lately. He even answered the question asked by Professor Styx, and Hades wanted so much to mumble something horrid, but he kept his mouth shut for the time being. He needed to remember where he was, as this was Professor Styx's classroom. Hades heard the dismissal and the homework, before he packed up his things and left the greenhouses for the day. Such an interesting class, Herbology, especially with a professor that seemed like he could kill every plant just by looking at it.

Venomous Tentacula
The Venomous Tentacula is a poisonous plant that has tentacles with spikes on it that is incredibly dangerous and poisonous. They also have a poisonous bite as well. However, with the right type of training, these plants that are mobile can make good companions, which is why I like them. The plant itself can be dangerous untamed, which I think we will use this in Herbology, but perhaps in later years, like fifth, sixth or seventh.
