Lesson Five : The Life Number

Professor Wang waited patiently for her class to arrive. She knew that what she was about to share with her students would likely be unpopular, but she had never been concerned with whether her students liked her or not as long as they learned. This particular group had demonstrated that they were capable of understanding the basics and were now about to begin, in earnest, their voyage of discovery into themselves.

When the final student was seated and prepared for the lesson, Professor Wang rose from her chair and strode purposefully to the center of the classroom, allowing her stern gaze to fall on each student before she spoke. Alpha sat on the chair and looked out at the class only blinking when needed.

"We have now completed our introduction to Arithmancy. You are now familiar with the proper usage of the Pythagorean System and the essential details of the Core Concepts. However, any insight that you think you have gained into yourself based upon analysis of your given name and surname is incomplete and not founded in the true essence of Arithmancy. The work done previously was merely a test of your ability to perform simplistic calculations and justify your findings. For some of you, this may be a relief as you may not have looked favourably on the results of your calculations. For the rest, you will need to understand that you have only scratched the surface of what is to come. Today we begin the real work."

Professor Wang looked at the confused expressions on some of her students and smiled inwardly. she felt that many of the students in this group were perhaps a little too confident in their abilities. It was her duty to keep such students off-balance, to ensure that they did not become complacent or arrogant. They needed to understand that they were not yet mature enough to handle the entire picture and that their foundation of knowledge would need to be built stone by individual stone. The labor was set to begin. Professor Wang casually pointed her wand at the blackboard.

Life Path:

The Life Path is at the heart of your being. It tells you what you are really like. Its qualities want to be utilized and acknowledged. It is what is innate and natural for you. It is the vibration in which your soul has chosen to ground its essence.

"The Life Path is revealed through your Life Number. The Life Number is found through analysis of your full birthdate. Unlike earlier calculations that you have performed, your Life Number should not be reduced unless it exceeds 21. Please note that if your original number exceeds 21 that you are required to begin reducing and continue doing so until you have arrived at a single digit number. The blackboard provides an example of each type of calculation.

Quote:

Date of Birth: January 12, 1970
Addition: 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 0 = 21
The number 20 does not need to be reduced further.

Date of Birth: May 2, 1982
Addition: 5 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 2 = 27
The number 27 needs to be reduced further. 2 + 7 = 9

Date of Birth: August 19, 1981
Addition: 8 + 1 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 1 = 37
The number 37 needs to be reduced to: 3 + 7 = 10
And again: 1 + 0 = 1

Professor Wang surveyed the class to ensure that they understood the difference between these calculations and those utilized previously involving the alphabet and Pythagorean System. "Your assignment for this week is to establish your Life Number, refer to pages 11 and 12 in your textbook in order to find out the meaning of your Life Number, and comment upon your findings for your portfolios." The professor gave one final glance over the class. "If there are no other questions, class is dismissed."
