House and Year: Gryffindor Fourth Year
Lesson Missed: One.

The fifteen, soon to be sixteen, year old fourth year sighed. It was humiliating that she had to do fourth year again because she had been kicked out of school just because of one silly, insignificant stink pellet attack on the fifth years during their OWLs. Megara knew that there was nothing that she could do about it any longer but she just wished that she hadn't wasted that year and salvaged herself as much as possible and not feel the apathetic feelings soar through her due to high school. It was a horror movie, it was her own personal, muggle hell and she didn't understand why she had put herself through that instead of finding a wizard or witch who would teach her from home. At least then she would only be one year behind but no, she was a fourth year about to go to Herbology which would be just the same as the year she had taken at Hogwarts Scotland. Meg hadn't grown much since her fourth year at Hogwarts so she had not bothered purchasing new robes or new text books during the break after finding she was accepted to Hogwarts New Zealand. So wearing those same robes and uniform she looked at herself in the mirror. The reflection was one she recognized more than the one she had seen each day when she tried vainly to look her best so muggles wouldn't tease her for knowing what they did. They had thought she was stupid and this was all Megara had to go on because her parents had told everybody that she would be going to a special school and nothing else because they didn't fully understand it themselves. When she had gone back to the muggle education system in Hadleigh, it was safe to say that she was looked at with three heads because she didn't know what a quadratic equation was or why there were letters in their math instead of just numbers like there had been in the math she had taken before departure from muggle schooling in her eleventh year of life. But Meg tried to take it all in stride, she tried to keep herself from boiling over for fear she would show the muggles the strange occurrences that happened before she was able to control herself and her magic.

Megara's porcelain skin was pulled into a smirk as she pushed her black hair behind her ear and leaving her dorm room with a bunch of girls she still did not know the names to. It would get better, she knew this much was certain, but it embarrassed her that come November she would be sixteen years old and they would be two years behind. This is why I won't pull any pranks, she reminded herself forcefully, knowing that if she did she would be promptly kicked out of Hogwarts because she was already on probation due to what had happened at her previous school. It had been a part of her agreement with the school upon her acceptance... as well as her parents.

With the rest of the students, Megara Bennett flicked her black, beety eyes that had the soul of a Tiger that had to be grappled into submission before sitting down at the back, only sparing a glance to the Professor. He didn't look nearly as scary as she had heard him to be so she rolled her eyes when she looked down at her schedule and saw that the man's last name was Styx she laughed quite loudly. What kind of name was Styx? Did he intend on starting a band or was he just really into mythology. It all seemed a bit much for her but she noticed that eyes had glanced her way and in momentary embarrassment Megara opened her notes to the parchment that she had not yet burnt from two years prior and listened to the class, not bothering to answer the questions despite knowing each and every one of the answers, thanks to her handy-dandy binder that had each piece of parchment from her fourth year kept in it.

As the lesson went on, she nearly rolled her eyes in an act of momentary defiance. It was really too much, it was like asking someone how to spell their name. Everyone - of a certain age - knew how to at the very least do that, like everyone should know that St. Mungo's was related to Herbology. The things they needed to use to heal was included, for gods sake. So she felt like she had wasted a good chunk of time and was relieved when they were dismissed so she could waste the rest of her day, roaming the sister castle of Hogwarts Scotland so she could make sure she did not get lost. But first she had handed in her quick assignment, not caring just how poor quality it was because she just wanted to leave so she copied the same thing that she had handed in when she was a fourth year.
Quote:

Megara Bennett
Fourth Year Gryffindor -- Assignment One

St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is a hospital that was founded in the late 1500s to the early 1600s by Mungo Bonham. Originally St. Mungo's was placed in Britian but as the wizarding community grew and New Zealand became heavily filled with wizarding populace. The original has a concealment charm to trick muggles into thinking that it is a shop that is closed for refurbishments. In St. Mungo's there are all sorts of magical folk who go to be healed or give birth.

Due to the fact that I have already taken this course in Hogwarts Scotland and my assumption is that the curriculum has not changed from each Hogwarts, I know what is exactly to happen in this course so I find no use to fiend a guess. It would waste both of our time, Professor.
[/justify]

O-9 "Please have more details about the class, rather than copying and pasting from Muggle Studies and changing a few words here and there. One thing that did make me laugh, was Styx and mythology, whereas Megara is the wife of Hercules in Greek Mythology."

Lesson Missed: Lesson 1
Your RP and Assignment:

Hylas was late for herbology class. He had to visit the hospital wing for his broken arm so it was kind of inevitable. After the nurse had a last look saying that it was alright now, he rushed to the grounds and made his way to the greenhouses. The professor had already started the lesson, talking about the beauty of herbology. He took a seat as quietly as he could and started taking notes. The notes that he had missed he would be taking them after the lesson from a fellow gryffindor. As the lesson was over for today they were asked to do a small essay about a herb of their choice. Hylas went to the library after the lesson to start his essay.

Essay - Lesson 1

Spiky Bushes

Spiky Bushes are are a kind of bushes with spikes growing out of them. They can shoot these spikes at humans, but can be destroyed using fire that it's their weakness or severe them with a charm. According to experts in herbology field, it is best to try and get rid of them from a distance, because they tend to shoot their spikes in the air if the plant is attacked, and whoever is close nearby will undoubtedly be hit. The chances are minimized when attacking it from a distance but still a spiky bush is known to dart its spikes meters why. Especially when touched with fire, spiky bushes before they surrender in flames, the shoot all their spikes and then wither away.

Given the similarity between Spiky Bushes and Spiky Prickly Plants many believe that they are related. However, Spiky Prickly Plants are not actually a kind of bush and they have yellow color with black spikes whereas Spiky Bushes have green leaves with yellow spikes.

Lesson Missed: One

Damian Metzger entered the Herbology classroom and he was rather nervous about Herbology, especially with the OWL year and it was something else than to just pass the other years. This year was the most important. Damian glanced at the other classmates around him and noticed that some of them were Prefect, same as he. He was glad that he was not the only prefect in this class. Damian glanced up at Professor Styx and hoped that this lesson would be rather brief. He mentioned the OWL and that made Damian shudder. He did not like that test, not one bit. It was already stressing him out enough.

The Gryffindor Prefect was happy that Professor Styx wasted no time in anything, and he would need to make his work effort a lot more so that he could pass the OWLs with a perfect score, which even then he did not think that he could get a perfect score on the OWL that Professor Styx would give to them. It was something else, but Damian thought that he would be able to pass somehow. They were dismissed without any homework, and he was glad that he was free to go. He left the classroom and he smiled brightly to himself.

Your RP and Assignment:
Georgiana walked into the Herbology class and took her usual seat. As the professor began the class she leaned against her head as her elbow rested on her desk. He was going on about the stages of the Mandrakes and Georgiana knew the class wasn't going to be a fun one. Most likely they'd end up wrestling with the Mandrakes to get them into bigger pots. She sighed happily when they only had to water and fed them this week around.

Moving over to her Mandrake she looked down at the pot before feeling the soil for dampness. It was getting alittle to dry so she got the water can to give the mandrake a nice bath in cool water. Dragging the pot over to a sunny part of the Greenhouse she sat down next to it letting the little guy get it's sun for the day.

She then began to fill out her record book checking the different things about it. The name took her awhile to figure out but she figured it was the prefect name for the Mandrake. After sitting for most of the class in the sun Georgiana pulled her Mandrake back to the shade and gave it another dose of water. Taking the scoop from the fed she measured out a fourth of a cup. Taking the feed back to her pot she put it on top and began pushing down the fed into the pot. The mandrake managed to grab her fingers instead of the food and she had to fight for her own fingers for a minute before the Mandrake began to eat instead. "Ow," she whishpered out looking at the marks from the Mandrake on her fingers.

House and Year: 1st Year
Lesson Missed: Lesson 3-Planting pumpkins
Your RP and Assignment:

Roberta walked into the Herbology class and took her usual seat without casting any look at professor Styx who probably would be irritated from her late arrival. When she heard that they were going to plant pumpkins she left a smirk. That shouldn't be really difficult she thought as she was taking some notes about pumpkins. As the lesson was going to continue outside, she took a pair of gloves and some tools like the rest of the students. She took the pumpkin seed in her palm and looked at professor's Styx demonstration with an apathetic expression on her face.

When it was their turn to plant their seeds, she yawned before getting down to her knees. With her spade she created a small hole on the soil, placed the seed in the middle of it and refilled the little hole with dirt. She patted the soil not so softly as the professor instructed. Then she poured some water on the small pile of dirt and took out her wand to cast the spell. She moved her wand a bit faster while doing the loop movement and shouted Sementis medicates. A small sprout emerged from the ground that started extending vines. A small blossom started growing which then gave its place to a small pumpkin. Roberta wanted to make it grow more so she used again the spell. However a really tiny melon was grown, so tiny that could fit in her palm.

Roberta gave up her tries. At least it was looking like a pumpkin after all. She packed her staff and left, casting a glare at her seedless attempt.

Lesson Missed: Three

Damian Metzger may like Herbology and all, but there was something different, and he did not like it. Damian was utterly petrified of Professor Styx and what all he could do, but nonetheless, Damian had his things and he entered the classroom with a rather sheepish look on his flawless face. There was something about today that just made him rather queasy. He took a seat where he normally did and he made sure that his expression was in no way suspicious. He could not bare it if he had gotten in trouble or anything at all. He really did not want to interfere with Professor Styx. Damian watched as Professor Styx leaned against the desk and he started the lesson without much greeting, and then he was told that they were working with a plan that could hit harder than a bludger. There was a cold tone when he said that there were first aid kits so that meant that nothing could go wrong.

What these things were called were Bouncing Bulbs. They did not resemble bulbs at all, and they did not bounce. They did not even look like they were dangerous at all. Damian put on his own dragonskin gloves when they were told to. Well, not really ordered to but it was advised. And whatever Professor Styx advised, Damian went along with it for his own safety. Damian watched as he demonstrated before the plant tried to make a punch toward Professor Styx who barely dodged before he put it down into the dirt, and then covered it in the trough. It was their turn. Damian let out a sigh, and he glanced down at his own bouncing bulb. Damian went to grab it before it punched him, right in the chest. Damian lost his breath, and he was forced back by the blow. Those things really hurt! Damian then quickly snatched it and put it in the trough, before covering it with dirt, also managing to get his lower arm punched as well. He left the greenhouses, feeling like he had been in a boxing match.

Lesson Missed: Four

The moment that Damian Metzger entered the greenhouses again, he could remember the pains he had received earlier thanks to those bouncing bulbs. They were just the worst! As soon as everyone was into the classroom, Damian took a look around the school. They were learning about two plants today, one was the Flutterby Bushes, which oddly it sounded like butterfly. Damian looked at the plant and it started to quiver and shake as soon as Professor Styx touched it. Damian laughed in his mind, It shook in fear! But he made sure not to reveal what he was thinking in his mind just in case he would get detention.

Shame Damian had no idea that Professor Styx was a Legilimens, and was glaring at him right now. Damian shrunk back a bit, before he wondered what he did. Then they were informed of the Flitterbloom plant, something that was just like the Devil's Snare without being so harmful. Then they were to go to the Flutterby bush and trim the dead parts of the plant as well as the overgrown parts. Damian took a pair of shears, and he went to the plant. The moment he touched it, it started to shake. Damian bit his tongue and he trimmed it a bit, before it looked really good, before he passed the shears over to the next fifth year. Then they were dismissed, and Damian got his things and left the classroom. Wow, he was glad that he did not have any homework this time!

Rakas Varius, a Gryffindor young lad, raced down the path to get to Herbology, to attend the class that really had the professor teach it strict. Rakas was running, fueled by the chocolate cauldron cakes running through his bloodstream. Rakas raced through the lawns of the school, his messenger bag bouncing against this legs as they pounded the grass flat under his feet. Rakas' hair waved crazily around his face. His green eyes were tired, but by the time he skid to a stop, Rakas could have sworn he saw a few of his classmates heading back. Then he saw the note. Letting out a sigh, Rakas turned and he left to go enjoy the day. Maybe divulge in more sugary sweets.

As bored and as tired as he was, Fayt Aurelious still forced himself to bounce off from his bed and attend herbology class, one that he had always thought to be rather boring. But from what he had heard, their professor would be the head of their house by then, and he had resolved to not get into the professor’s bad side, not like he would want to spend any of his free time in any detention, and besides, he wanted everything to just go by as smoothly as possible. Packing his things and donning his robes, Fayt wordlessly mad his way to the greenhouse. The walk was pretty short which he was thankful for. Sighing as he saw that he had been almost late for the class, Fayt just settled himself to the seat that was farthest from the front. He wouldn’t like any unnecessary attention to be given to him after all.

Once the professor started to speak, Fayt cannot help but to feel a little cold. Th e professor was indeed strict, there’s no denying it. . He immediately brought out his parchment, quill and ink, as the professor commanded them to do so. He then took notes of everything that he deemed to be important.

Devil's Snare is one of the plants that are known to have magical properties. Its ability is pretty interesting as it is known to to strangle anything that would come into contact with it. It is commonly used for Assassination, guarding objects, and/or attacking enemies. Struggling against the Devil’s Snare would only result to the said plant tightening its hold on its victim. This plant prefers dark and damp places, thus, it can only be stopped when presented with a bright light.

Lesson 1

Thomas tried not to dwell on the fact that this was his last semester at Hogwarts New Zealand. He had had six and a half years to get himself prepared for this semester and now that it was here he didn’t have time to think about it too much. This year was already hard enough for him and he had yet to start any of his NEWT exams so he had to focus on his last few classes and then prepare for the exams; which he knew to be extremely difficult as per word of mouth from previous students. Thomas still had a lot to catch up in terms of work from previous years that he had yet to fully comprehend before focusing on his work from this year. He had started off well in his first few years but after a lot of drama he had gotten somewhat lazy in his work which was evident from his low grades. Although he finally did get his act together and he remembered his once fond dream of becoming an Auror and as such he started to focus on his work a bit more. With the hopes of one day becoming an Auror in the forefront of his mind he got ready for first class that morning. Having researched what requirements he needed for becoming an Auror he knew which classes he had to focus on. While they were all important there was a few that he needed to do exceptionally well in. Today was one of these classes; Herbology.

Entering the Herbology classroom Thomas took his usual seat and put his new writing equipment on the desk, sure he was fine with what he had but it was his last year so he decided to splurge a little with a bit of Christmas money that he had left over. Just as Thomas got himself comfortable he heard the door close behind him and Professor Styx’s voice ringing throughout the classroom. He listened to what the Professor had to say. No doubt every Professor this semester would be reminding them of their NEWTs just like the Professor’s from last semester, but Thomas knew it was important so he didn’t mind so much. He listened to what they would be doing this year, sort of glad that they wouldn’t be learning much new stuff this year as review classes were a life saver at this time. Thomas made a quick note of the two plants that they would be learning about this year. He hadn’t heard of the first one but the second one he had and he almost shuddered at the even thought of the Venomous Tentacula having heard of it before and read up a bit about it in his textbooks. Taking note of his homework Thomas packed up and left for the day.

Herbology – Lesson 1

Gillyweed

Gillyweed is a magical plant native to the Mediterranean and resembling a bundle of slimy, grey-green rat tails. When it is eaten by a witch or wizard, said witch or wizard grows gills on the neck of the person who eats it, enabling him or her to breathe underwater for a limited amount of time and webbed hands and feet allowing them to swim with ease.

There is some debate among Herbologists as to the duration of the effects of Gillyweed on fresh water versus salt water, but the effects of Gillyweed in general seems to last about an hour. Gillyweed's properties were first discovered by Elladora Ketteridge (1656 - 1729) but credited to Beaumont Marjoribanks (1742 - 1845) about a century later. Gillyweed is also as an ingredient in a drink called Gillywater, available in most good Wizarding pubs.

Lesson 2

Thomas was finally getting back into the swing of things with lessons and homework. He always found that it took a week, maybe two tops at the start of each semester to get back into the swing of getting up early in the mornings and building up a routine that you worked on so hard to make just to be ruined by the holidays. Although this year he promise himself that he would work and work hard to get into a routine as quickly as possible because exams were coming far too quickly for him and he wanted to do well in them. He just hoped that it would all work out because he wanted to become an Auror so badly. He wanted to make his father proud because even after all these years he still looked up to his father by living off the few fond memories he had of him. He knew his mother told him that his father would b proud of him no matter what, but Thomas had to do this; if not for his father then at least for himself.

Entering Herbology he took his seat and placed his writing equipment out in front of him. Once he had his things placed out in front of him he looked up to the front of the classroom and eyed up the odd looking, what he assumed to be, plant hid under a black cloth. With the closing of the door he turned his gaze to the Professor and listened to him talk. As soon as his eyes hit the front of the classroom he saw the plant, this time without the black cloth concealing it. His face scrunched up slightly at the look of it, he had yet to see many appealing looking plants in his seven years of Herbology and he doubted he was going to see any at all. Thomas took some notes as he listened to the Professor talk. The plant didn’t sound all that dangerous but he didn’t say anything about it. When it was mentioned about the ‘rancid manure’ smell that it let off when prodded he hoped that it wouldn’t be demonstrated to the class like most things were. He let out a sigh of relief when the plant remained un-prodded. Thomas continued to take down notes for the rest of the class and when it was over he packed up his things and left.

Lesson 5

With the last week just around the corner this Ravenclaw Prefect was starting to freak out just ever so slightly. In this sense he didn’t feel much like a Ravenclaw as he felt under prepared for the exams that were going to follow soon after the last week of classes. In all fairness though, he had all of his revision notes set up and had already made a good dent on his revision from his earlier years. He found it hard to believe that he had learned all that stuff almost seven years ago, on one hand it didn’t seem like that long ago and on the other hand it seemed like forever ago that he had learned all of that stuff. Thankfully some of the things were coming back to him easier than he had expected, even with his slight absence from classes for a while things weren’t as bad as he had thought. With a few late nights behind him over the weekend Thomas knew he needed to get a good night sleep before his second last week of classes but alas he was as tired as ever as he entered the Herbology classroom that morning.

As he sat down Thomas was glad to hear that they were having another review paper; that meant it would be a quick class so he could grab something to eat before maybe sneaking a nap before doing more revision. He made a start on his review sheet as quickly as possible and when he was done he left it on the Professors desk and exited the classroom.
