today was the first day in the new part of Taras life. she had gotten up early in the morning, wrapped up warm and grabbed her pastels, and sketch pad. and headed down to the garden. she found herself a seat where she could see the lake, castle and garden. she started a picture of the late and the mountains cloaked in a vail of mist behind it. using beautiful soft grey and blues, she started added a hint of gold reflecting the sun. after a while she lost track of time and the sun rose higher and higher in the sky. wondering what magic school would be like.

Stefan had no clue what to do. He'd never been alone. He'd never been all by himself. His father had always been close by. Stefan was close to saying that his father was almost always an arm away. But here he was at Hogwarts, without his father. Without anyone. If Stefan was honest, he would not say he was glad, or even very happy, more confused and quite a bit afriad. That his father would take it all away. Stefan was just hoping that his father would not be able to reach him. That his body would be given time to heal and get ready for when he got home. Stefan was smiling to himself slightly as he walked through the grounds. His eyes were fixed upon the ground. He could see the grass. It seemed amazing. Perfect. But he didn't actually know what grass looked like. It was greyish to him. Not the green he was told it was. Stefan didn't know what colour green was. He couldn't see it. He couldn't know. This was why, Stefan knew, his father hated and beat him. Because according to his father someone who can not see colour was a lesser human. Stefan always tried to tell himself it was not true. But then Stefan remembered that he had no idea what blue was and orange to him was the fruit.

As Stefan walked he noticed a girl sitting alone. He had now reached the gardens. He was missing out on so much by not being able to actually see. The sun was high in the sky, despite the fact it was winter. This made Stefan's sight even worse. It meant that though he had spotted the girl, he had no realised how close she was. He banged against her and fell to the ground. His already banaged hand was first to hit the floor. Stefan cried out in pain, as he landed on the ground. Stefan felt his cheeks redden as he sat up and looked round to the person he'd tripped up over. "I'm sorry. I didn't see you." Stefan said forcing a small smile. Hoping the girl wouldn't be too annoyed. "I'm really sorry." Stefan had a quiet voice. Unsure of itself. As Stefan was unsure of himself. "I Hope I didn't hurt you."

SideNotes: Stefan spranned his wrist badly, and has a black
eye. As well as other scars and less clear bruises scattered
around his body.

Tara was so much in the zone that she didn't hear anything until a boy knocked into her, she felt herself falling slightly but managed to regain her balance before she fell properly. this however did bring her back into reality. The first thing she noticed as that it was a lot brighter than it had previously been as the sun was much higher in the sky. as she turned around she saw that there was a boy on the floor near where she had been. he seemed so broken, the way he positioned his body and the fact that he had a huge black eye both contributed to this as well as many other things she couldn't explain. "are you okay?" she said at almost the exact time the boy also started talking, she waited for him to finish before continuing herself. "I don't mind, i needed to move i must have been sitting there for hours, i was kind of a bit zoned out. I'm not hurt, i didn't fall. How about you? you seemed to go down hard" she said, with all of her thoughts mixing together resulting in a jumble of sentences, and her indian accent made it seem even more mixed up. she knelt down next to him wondering if he needed a hand up, he seemed o be protecting his wrist, maybe that was hurt, he did cry out when he fell down. but closer up he seemed worse, as well as the black eye he seemed to be covered in bruises she suppressed a gasp and rubbed his shoulder gently like her mother used to do whenever she fell over when she was younger.

Stefan listened to the girl as she spoke. Stefan noted the accent straight away. He had no idea where it was from. He had no experience of accents, so he just let it slide, knowing that where they both came from might just come up in conversation and Stefan would avoid the embarrassment of asking her. She seemed quite nice the girl. But despite all this Stefan couldn't help but flinch away when she rubbed his shoulder. It was through impulse. He always flinched away from people. He always actually thought they would hit him. He wasn't used to hands being comforting and not weapons. Stefan smiled at the girl slightly. She seemed nice, which made Stefan feel bad for flinching away. But he had no idea as to if he could trust the girl. She seemed perfectly normal. But a lot of things seemed normal. Stefan knew to an outsider his dad would seem like a normal kind human, but he was anything but that. Stefan shrugged slightly, before glancing down at his already injurged arm. He'd probably set back the healing time, but Stefan wasn't too bothered about it. "I'm fine. My arm and wrist were already hurt." Stefan said give a small smile to the girl. He felt awful for having fallen over her. "I'm really sorry" Stefan repeated. "The brightness of the day, made it hard to see." Stefan said, before realising that the day, might not actually be as bright as he saw it to be. He was more sensitive to light. He had no idea as to if it would be difficult for a normal person to see. Stefan looked down at the ground. "I'm really sorry" Stefan muttered once more. He hoped the girl would say something. Or else, he knew he'd spend quite a bit of time apologizing, before leaving.

Tara felt the boy flinch away from her as she started to rub his shoulder. she quickly pulled away and looked down at his wrist again. "I dont know much about magic, coming from a non magic family and all, but i have heard that the healers in the hospital wing can heal bones and things really quickly, so maybe you should go up there and see if anyone can help you" she suggested hoping that the boy wouldn't hold her up bring against her, as she heard many slytherins did, and judging by the boys green robes he was a slytherin. "Im Tara by the way. Dont worry about knocking into me, i knock into things all the dime back home, everyone says I was too busy admiring the scenery to watch where I'm going, and i guess they are telling the truth as everywhere is so beautiful, both at home and here". she said knowing she was starting to babble but not being able to stop. she looked back to the sketch pad and pastels still on the bench, she couldn't see the picture but she knew that it wasn't one of her better ones, and she would much rather get to know someone new than sitting on her own with a pice of paper and a box full of the rainbow. she hadn't been over from india long, she arrived about five days before the school year started and she had only met one person and she hadn't seen him since he got sorted into as she could remember gryfindor. "how do you like it here at hogwarts, its beautiful isn't it everything seems so much richer, even the grass feels more lush than at home, but it is an awful lot colder she smiled and stopped talking.

Stefan just smiled, it was a slightly forced but it would be
barely noticeable. He had no intension on going to the
hospital. He hated those places. He'd ended up in one, one
to many times, and had almost ended up in one, more times
that countable. "I don't like hospitals" Stefan muttered.
He really hated them, and though the girl was right. Stefan would
avoid this hospital as much as possible. Stefan was barely able
to catch the girl's name. Tara. She talked a lot more than any
one Stefan knew. Although, that wasn't much. He waited until
she'd finished talking. Stefan had realised that this girl was the
type to love the world in all it's glory. Stefan was sure that the
school was amazing, and rich. But Stefan couldn't see it. His eyes
didn't take in the land around him. Black, grey and white, made the
entire gardens pretty dull. "I'm Stefan." Stefan said with a
smile. Before shrugging to her further question. "I don't have
anything to compare it to. But it's nice. I like the fresh air."

Stefan knew what he was saying would appear odd, but what
could a colourblind 11 year old, who barely went out say about
the scenery. All he knew was darkness. All he saw was dull.
Stefan looked around at the gardens, he wanted so badly to
see them. "Were you drawing?" Stefan asked seeing the
notepad.

Tara had never been to a hospital herself, sure here were doctors where she cam from, and she was pretty sure that there was mainly for tourists, it was too expensive for the locals, she had never boon inside. so she dint know what they were like. but still she thought he should go, if any of her family was hurt like that someone would be sent to fetch a doctor. "I still think you should go and get it bandaged or something, If you want I can come with you" she said not quite realizing that if he went the healers could make it better in no time. Tara was surprised that the Stefan didn't have much to say about the grounds, it was beautiful. maybe he was a local, and used to it. "where are you from? I'm from Joshimath in north India. up in the mountains so this is a total change, but the air here is fresh. she said. at home the sir was fresh of the Himalayas but it was always overlaid with various incenses, and the sweet smell of rotting flowers, from the temples. when stephan asked about her picture, she reached up for it and showed him. "i came down earlier trying to get a sketch of the dawn, I saw it over the mountains and the colors softened by the mist just begged for me to draw it." she said letting out a small giggle.

Stefan listened as the girl said she was from India. Stefan hadn't really met many others, and this was the first girl he'd ever met from India. He didn't know how many were actually at Hogwarts, but it was interesting to meet someone who lived far away from where Hogwarts was. It made Stefan wonder if there just wasn't any magical school in India. Which seemed a little odd. But Stefan just let it slide, as the girl had continued on speaking. Stefan just stared at the drawing as it was handed to him. It looked nice enough, but by the way the girl was speaking, the colour was necessary to actually see the picture in it's full beauty. Stefan didn't want to mention the colorblindness. The girl seemed enthralled by the beauty of the world, whereas he wasn't. It was probably very obvious as he stared at the picture blankly. Unable to take in fully the picture. "I'm from New Zealand. I live out in the country." Stefan said looking down at the picture and then up to Tara. "It's brilliant. I wish to draw as well as you." Stefan said, with a smile. "I'm not good at all." Stefan actually didn't know if he could draw. He'd never been allowed to, and he didn't know which colour he was using, so, he'd never thought about drawing.

[ooc}not super lame, good[/ooc]
Tara realized that the boy was a local thats why he didn't seem as amazed at the surroundings was. "its not that good, i dont think i've got the shading right. she said as he complimented her picture. "I don't believe that anyone can be no good at drawing, but i will let it slip this once" she looked at him he seemed to be a little different. "so what is it like growing up here?" she asked knowing it would be nothing like growing up how she did. "do you mind if i sketch you? i need a bit of practice in drawing people she asked hoping he wouldn't mind.

It seemed to Stefan that Tara had a completely different view on life than he did. It was like Tara had been brought up in a normal clean and nice environment. Where she had been taught to respect things and be the best version of herself and to see the best versions of others. Someone who was actually completely happy. Stefan had no real idea, what real happiness was. At Hogwarts, he'd begun to feel at home but by no means was he actually happy. Hogwarts scared him. It was so big, and he was an easy target. But he was feeling a lot calmer than he had ever felt at home. "Growing up here?" Stefan repeated, having to hold back laughter, which had come on suddenly. He really had no idea. He hadn't really grown up in New Zealand. He'd barely been outside his house in his 11 years of life. But Stefan was no about to talk about his home life any more than he was going to talk about being colourblind. Growing up for him, had been some of the scariest times in his life. It was a surprise to him, that he hadn't suffered from a heart attack at some point at home. "It's nice. Easy." Stefan lied, "It's pretty much the best place to grow up. Every thing is so nice, and people are really nice." Stefan continued lying. He wasn't a very good lier. It was pretty clear. But Stefan would never tell the truth about his upbringing to any random girl. "I don't mind. Go ahead, no one has ever drawn me before." Stefan was curious as to how the girl would draw him. If it would be with his black eye or without. "What was it like growing up in India?" Stefan asked, steering the conversation away from himself.

Tara grabbed a soft pencil and turned to a new page s she listened to Stefan say about a childhood he may have had, it sounded a lot easier than hers, with her whole family worrying about money, she only usually got her art things thanks to some of the tourists. tho may have given her something, or bought one of her pictures. which her mother insisted she kept some of the money from. which she spent on more art supplies. she started stetting the boy outline in pencil, leaving out the bruises and making him smile, she talked as she worked. "that sounds nice, I grew up in north india, up in the mountains neat the border with china, near by was a valley called the valley of flowers. when i was little i used to go with my dad as he lead groups of tourists there. but as i grew up i was expected to help my mother out selling fruit and vegetables, as well as cooking and cleaning around the house. but whenever i could i would try and find somewhere on my own to draw and paint. thats why i often go and paint around dawn as thats when i can usually get a bit of quiet before everyone else wakes up." she said. and by then she had finished the pencil and then added some color from the pastels. firstly a soft skin color, then black in the hair, now blue for the eyes, and a slight pink in the lips, finally green on the robes, for slytherin, lined in silver she said turning the picture around to show him.

Stefan watched as Tara drew and talked at the same time. Stefan felt bad for lying to her about how he'd grown up as she was completely honest with him. He knew that talking about how he'd actually grown up would probably mean that the girl would tell a professor and make him get help. And Stefan just wasn't ready to start talking about it. It wasn't something that a person could easily talk about. He was glad that she had at least found something that she was good at. And Stefan could tell that she was good at drawing. From the pencil drawing Stefan could see that it did look like him. A little happier. Since he had no bruises and he was smiling, something that actually made him smile. It was like a mirror reflection. He then watched as the girl added colour. Commentating as she did so. Stefan's smile faded slightly. He had liked it without colour. It was a lot easier for him to see. Now with colour, some bits were darker and some others were lighter. He had been told that his eyes were blue, but Stefan still couldn't be certain. it didn't help that he didn't know what blue was. In a way, the fact that the girl had added colour made him want to tell her that he was colourblind. But Stefan didn't know if it was right. Tara seemed pretty trustworthy. Plus it wasn't like it really mattered if more people knew. Everyone would eventually find out about him. His friends would all need to know. They would have to be the ones to help him. So really there was no harm in telling her. "It's wonderful." Stefan muttered with a sigh. "There's just one thing. And, It's not really about the drawing, I mean, this is amazing. But the colour, wasn't necessary. I can't see it. I'm completely colourblind. It was nice of you to say what each was though." Said Stefan Slowly, chosing his words carefully, a smile upon his face. Although there was nothing really funny about it. "What house are you in?" Stefan asked, still smiling slightly. It always felt strangely good telling people about his condition.

Tara saw the smile of the picture imprint on Stefan's face, as she saw the picture, but she watched it fade. she looked back at it and wondered what was wrong, sure it was no where near perfect but she felt it was pretty good. what she heard next upset her, the news brought a tear to her eye. she gave him a hug. "I'm sorry I didn't know. do you want me to do it again in charcoal. she said wondering how she would live if she could not see color, she didn't think she would be able to. she turned around ad rummaged inside her bag for her charcoal. she then ripped the original out of her book and gave it to him. "You can keep it if you like. Im in hufflepuff, I've heard that your house dont like mine, but i dont believe you are like that" she said answering his question "hufflepuff it the one with the badger on the crest she added as an afterthought.

Stefan had to shrug Tara off, as she gave him a hug. He was not the type to be comfortable with hugs. They made him feel odd, and he did not like the close personal contact. Stefan flinched away, and felt his cheeks warm in embarrassment as he did so. The reaction of the girl surprised him. Surely, it was not a thing to cry over. He was fine with it, well as fine as a person could be about it. He was obviously annoyed with his condition day in and day out. But he'd learned to really live with it. And now he had hogwarts, he would begin to learn colours with out seeing them. That was the only way he would get by. "No, you don't have to. This is wonderful. And you weren't to know. I really shouldn't have said anything. But, you don't need to get upset." Stefan said. What surprised him about most people, was that no one actually asked how it was possible for a person to be colourblind. And even for others to question if Stefan was telling the truth. He wasn't lying, but other people might for sympathy. Stefan nodded in thanks, while looking back up to Tara as she said she was a hufflepuff. To Stefan that really meant little. He wasn't sure why his house would have to hate this house. Mainly as Stefan had been brought up by muggles, so he had no clue why. What made him smile was that the girl didn't think that he was like that. Which was good. As Stefan was just trying his hardest to be friends with others. No matter the house. "I don't think it's right to hate something or someone without proper reasoning. Seems quite pointless." Stefan said "Houses mean nothing to me. I've only learned about magic, so I know nothing, and not seeing the colours means that, it's taken me a little longer to even tell the houses apart." Stefan smiled at Tara.

Tara felt Stefan flinch "Sorry, I forgot, no contact." she said letting go. she wiped her eyes. "I didn't mean to cry I just cant imagine life without color. she started sketching in charcoal anyway even though he said she didn't have to, she liked having something to do with her hands and it may as well be something productive as opposed to something constructive or pointless. "I know what you mean it is pointless to hate people without reason, it is pointless to hate people with or without reason. thats how most of the worlds problems start" she said repeating what she had heard many adults say. she looked back at her page shading bits here and there, and getting a little annoyed at the charcoal, she liked how the charcoal blended easily but it sure made the paper messy. soon there was a border of the page. she worked in silence in a few minutes and as the greyscale portrait unfolded she realized how hard it must be for life to lack color, as after every stroke her hands itched to reach for the pastels to add a little color, however she didn't succumb instead she started talking again, "how can you live without color? I would hate it she asked hoping she wasn't being rude.
