Professor Evie Brennan walked into her classroom with a cheery smile on her face. She had just taken her morning walk, and was feeling particularly happy today. Perhaps it was because it was her first ever lesson. Teaching Sixth Years would be a challenge because they were not like the timid First and Second years. They had been through this class before and knew what to expect. She was nervous, but from an outsiders view you could not tell at all.

Before the bell rang, she wrote her name on the chalk board: Professor Brennan, and under that, Muggle board games. Earlier that morning she had pulled out several different kinds of board games that she had found in the supply closet. She had remembered these games fondly mostly because the servants around her adoptive parents house had played them with her so often.

The bell rang and students began to pile in, and soon the class was filled. Evie looked over all of there faces giving them a kind smile. "Good morning, class. You may not recognize me. I am Professor Brennan." She pointed at the neat handwriting on the board. "You all know the rules, you've been here for six years, so I doubt I need to explain them to you. Just know that any breaking of them will result in detention, meeting with your head of house, point deduction and in severe cases, a trip to the Headmistress's office." She looked at them sternly, daring them to test her.

"Anyhow." The smile returned to her face, and she took a step closer to them. "You'll find on your desk one board game. You may be familiar with the term board game, because many of you have played Gobstones, or Exploding Snap. Muggle board games are a bit different, there is absolutely no magic, and most of it requires a lot of concentration." She paused. "Of course there are the childrens board games, such as Candy Land." She gestured towards a student who was studying Candy land with a smirk on his face. "Board games go back in history to the game of Go! Which originated in China. They certainly aren't new, and I bet that with enough research you'll find ancient wizarding board games as well." She took a breath. "The most common point of a game is usually to place different players against each other. I don't know of many that do require all the players to team up with each other."

"Alright!" She clapped her hands. "You have half an hour to complete your assignment. I want an essay detailing the rules and how to play the game that is on your desk. And then, after class you are all welcome to play the games with other students. Make sure to hand in your essay by the end of class, thank you."
****
The bell rang, and the students began to file out leaving their essays on her desk. Evie waved them goodbye and proceeded to grade them.

Homework: RP the lesson, and do the essay. Atleast five sentences long, and somewhat explain the rules. Doesn't have to be super complicated. Choose any board game you want, even if another student has chosen the same one.

To be fair, Violet wasn't exactly sure why she was keeping up with Muggle Studies. There wasn't much of a point for her to take it - she was raised in a muggle home, her own father was a muggle - but she liked the class. Besides, easy marks were always a good thing. And as she had no idea what she was going to do with herself when she finished school, she figured she ought to keep her options open. As long as she kept doing subjects she liked, she'd surely be able to get in to a career she'd like. Right?

Violet smiled at the new Professor as she walked in to the class, taking a seat at the front. Professor Brennan looked nice enough - though she looked barely any older than Violet herself. She couldn't imagine being a Professor so young. There was a time where Violet wanted to be a Professor...but now she didn't think it would suit her. She suspected she'd find work in the Ministry, or something. Though Professor Brennan surely knew what she was doing, even though she was so young - she seemed quite stern, though also friendly enough. Violet was not one to break the rules, so she was sure she'd get along quite well with Professor Brennan.

On the desk in front of her was the game Monopoly. Violet smiled - she, Angus and Lucy had played it on rainy days when Angus's gaming consoles weren't providing enough entertainment. Often her mother had joined in, and Alice had tried to help but often wreaked havoc. Charlotte had played with them last time, too, having come up with her family to visit from Sydney. The Bellamy household was usually full of fun and games. She thought back to the nights playing family Pictionary, or Cranium, or Charades, with a fond smile on her face. It was times like these that she missed home the most.

An essay, huh? Violet thought to herself, with a smile. Alright, let's do this.

Muggle Studies, Lesson One

Monopoly

When people think about muggle board games, Monopoly is the one that often comes to mind. Games of Monopoly can be long, arduous, tedious...but also a lot of fun at the same time. The essential principle of the game is to build your 'Monopoly' of houses and hotels on various properties (ranging from cheap to very expensive), and through this, bankrupting your opponents in order to win. Honestly, I have never played a game of Monopoly that has ended in an absolute victory, the games often ending after two hours or so and the victor being decided by who has the most money at the end.

The game is played by up to six players, who each have a different token to mark their place. Two dice are rolled to move. Most places on the board are properties, on which if the player has enough money in their bank, they can build houses and later hotels. Occaisionally, players will land on 'Chance' or 'Community Chest' squares, which will enable them to draw a card and either benefit or be hindered by what is on it. And if players are really unlucky, they will be sent to 'Jail' for three turns. It is a complicated game, and the best way to understand it is to play it.

There are a variety of different versions of Monopoly (one of the ones I have at home is Nintendo Monopoly, based on different characters and locations from Nintendo games like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda), but the most traditional is the one based on London locations - the original game. In short, Monopoly is complicated, but it is extremely popular, and most people in the Western (muggle) world have played it (and most likely been frustrated by it) at least once.

Finally finishing her essay, Violet handed it in to Professor Brennan and contemplated playing the game - but decided against it. You needed hours to play it, and Violet figured it would be better to study. Besides, she wanted to play it with her dad. He was always tough competition.

An O. You went above and beyond to put in effort, and I really appreciate that. Not to mention your essay is very great, alongside a well written RP.
