Prodan sat behind his desk, reading a very good book, when the class filed in. Prodan glanced up, and allowed them to get settled. Prodan put the book down, and he greeted the class, "Welcome! This week, we are going to talk about money. Well, it will be more like a review, because I am sure everyone here has used any type of money before, isn't that right, teenagers?" Prodan chuckled, and he continued, "In the Wizarding World, we use a coin-only system. Galleons are the largest, most valuable coin. It is made out of gold and has a serial number imprinted along the rim. Knuts are the lowest unit. It is made of bronze, and 29 knuts are worth one Sickle. Sickle is the next level up in the coins. It is made of silver and it takes 17 of them to equal 1 galleon. Galleons are made of gold and are the highest unit of currency. There are a total of 493 knuts to 1 galleon." This was all review, but it is still useful anyhow.

"In most muggle currency systems, there are coins and paper bills. The bills carry a larger value than the coins. And each bill carries a serial number on it. There is such a wide variety of muggle money systems. Most countries have their own variation." Prodan reached inside his pocket, and pulled out a 50 dollar bill in American money. "See? This is American money from the states. If you go to...I don't know, China, the dollar bill there will look so much different than this."

"Now I want you to pick a country and research the currency used in that country. I would like for homework to have a short paper explaining the currency system and how it compares to the currency system of the Wizarding World. You may have the rest of the class to work on this. I have a number of books to use for research on this shelf here." Prodan opened his book once more. "If you need any help, be sure to stay after class. Have fun!"

Homework: RP the lesson and do the essay. Just a paragraph or two. Pictures would be helpful as well.

Larissa joined the class, partially pleased the school year was coming to an end, partially not as she hadn't yet found a place to stay away from her mother. It was a pity she couldn't just disaparate to a friends house but she'd have to wait another three years before the lessons teaching them how to.

Larissa wiped these thoughts from her head and took out the only muggle pen she owned, her folder and some paper.
Paper was smoother than parchment and her pen often slipped causing messy mistakes.
Larissa didn't bother noting down the Professors words about wizarding money; Only an idiot didn't know that there were seventeen sickles in a galleon.. Well, an idiot or a muggle.

As there was plenty of time left, Larissa chose to stay in the classroom and write her short essay.
The only muggle money she'd ever used was English money. Pounds and pence.
Larissa had been using knuts, sickles and galleons since she was young but had used English money once when visiting a relative in the United Kingdom.
Larissa began writing what she knew and hoped it was enough.

In the United Kingdom they use a currency called 'the Pound'.
The smaller units of this currency are called 'Pence'.
There are pieces of paper used called 'Pound Notes'. They can have a value of 5 pounds, 10 pounds, 20 pounds, 50 pounds or 100 pounds. There may be higher than these.
Galleons and pounds are alike in their value as the highest coin.
Pence have bronze coins which are the lowest such as 1p and 2p. These are the lowest like Knuts are.
Then there are silver coins which are either 5p, 10p, 20p or 50p. These are like Sickles being the middle valued coins.
Pound notes are, of course, worth more than coins. These are pieces of paper as talked about earlier.
In the wizarding world we do not use anything like these which means we have to carry a lot more weight to have more money.
