Belladonna walked around the room, placing the muggle pens and paper on the desks. She was excited for her class to arrive. Once each desk was set with a pen and a pad of paper, Belle walked back up to the front and wrote her name on the chalkboard. She had specifically asked for a chalkboard on one wall of the classroom and a whiteboard on the opposite wall. Soon the board showed the following information.
She sat down at her desk and waited as her class arrived. Once everyone had made it, she took a deep breath and stood up and walked around the front of her desk. Leaning against the front of the desk, she began the class. “Welcome to Muggle Studies. I am Professor Weiss. I am glad to see you all here today. This class is going to be a bit different from any others you will have had here at Hogwarts. This class will involve no magic being learned. Instead you will be learning about how muggles live and operate on a daily basis without it. There are those in the magical community that believe there is no need to learn about muggles.” “Why do you think Hogwarts offers this course?” Belle looked at the students, trying to gauge their backgrounds by the reactions on their faces. She called on the student that raised their hand to share their opinion. “Thank you for sharing.” She gave the student an encouraging smile. “Our classroom has been outfitted to look much like a traditional muggle classroom. We have a chalkboard in the front and what is called a whiteboard there along the back wall.” She pointed to the different boards as she explained. “Throughout the course, we will cover what these are used for and their differences. We also will not be using quills and parchment here. I have on each of your desks a pen, a pencil and a notebook. These are what muggle students use in their classrooms and I would like you to have the experience of using them as well. I have made them a little different from muggles by purchasing your pens with each of your houses on them.” Belle looked up at the clock on the wall. “I see we are running short on time, so I will give you just a bit of background on me and then give you your homework assignment. I was born and raised in a mixed home. My Dad is a muggle and is actually in the United States Army as a Chaplin. My Mom is a pureblood witch who would find work pretty much anywhere she felt like. We moved a lot while I was growing up. The longest I ever stayed in one place was when I attended Hogwarts England. I was in Ravenclaw there and have worked as a muggle teacher and a nanny after graduation. I most recently lived in San Francisco, California.” She took a breath and smiled at the class, knowing they were probably ready to be out the door and on to other things. “For your homework, I would like to have a bit of information on each of you.” She wrote on the board with the chalk. Name A little about you Kinds of interactions with muggles you have had, if any. “I will see you all next week.” She said as she dismissed the class. Homework: RP the lesson, first poster answering the question. Just a paragraph or two for the homework assigned in the lesson. Please rp using the pens and paper provided, especially if they are unfamiliar to your character. Please head your papers with: Name Year and House Muggle Studies, Lesson # |

Patricia had awoken bright and early that morning, excited for the new term. Last term had been great for her, top in, nearly, all her classes, it was great and she had high hopes for this term as well. She had, like many she knew, made a few New Years resolutions. One of which was to enjoy the rest of her third year. Secondly was to do well in all her classes and exams. And thirdly, was to get more active. She had returned to a few of her line dancing classes during the holidays, and she realised that she couldn’t keep up as well as she normally would. It wasn’t like her to give up so early, she was far from out of shape, but she felt she needed to exercise a bit more, it was always a good idea. So after a nice morning jog, enjoying the lovely New Zealand weather she made her way back up the castle and had a refreshing shower. Once she was washed and dressed she made her way down to the Great Hall for breakfast. She wasn’t surprised to see that not everyone was such a good mood as she was. After three years she learned that not everyone was as excited for classes as she was. This morning Patricia had Muggle Studies, she was excited about it, and it was the last elective she had yet to get a taster off. Patricia wasn't 100% sure why she was taking this class, she was a Muggleborn afterall, she knew all she needed about Muggles, but hey it was bound to be an easy 'O' if nothing else. Patricia made her way up to the first floor corridor and entered the Muggle Studies classroom. She could tell straight off that it was different than any of the other classroom. Mainly because she saw quite a few muggle items that she would have used herself back home. She saw their Professor was her own Head of House, Professor Weiss. Although Patricia had yet to speak to the woman one on one, she had seen her a few times and been spoken to by her in the common room along with the rest of her house. Even in those brief times Patricia knew she was a lovely woman so she was sure to enjoy this class. As Patricia made her way over to the desk she greeted the Professor with a kind hello. On the desks in front of her Patricia saw pens, pencils and notepads, all muggle style. A small laugh escaped her lips, she shouldn't have expected anything different from Muggle Studies class. Taking a seat in the front row where a Hufflepuff pen was sitting Patricia took out her textbook and waited for the rest of the class to arrive. Not too long after everyone was seated and Professor Weiss began to talk. As Patricia listened she twiddled her new pen in her fingers, loving the feeling of holding on again instad of a quill. When Professor Weiss asked why they thought this course was offered Patricia raised her hand and when she was called on replied, "Well most wizards have no clue about the muggle world, and no offense, but are quite ignorant about muggles. So this course is a good way for them to learn more about them and enlighten any thoughts they may have about them." Patricia wasn't sure if it was a decent enough answer and hoped she wouldn't offend anyone but was relieved when Professor Weiss thanked her for sharing. Patricia continued to listen to the Professor talk about the class and what type of things they had in store for them and herself. Once the class was over Patricia quickly jotted down her homework with her new pen, finding it much easier to wirte with the pen instead of a quill. Once she was finished she packed up and bid Professor Weiss goodbye. Instead of heading back to the common room or going to the Great Hall to finish her homework she sat one on of the window seats. The window was open slightly and there was a warm breeze and combined the view of the grounds it was a lovely place to do her homework. As she sat on the seat she pulled her legs up to her chest and rested her notepad on her lap and with a lot more ease than usual, started her homework. Once she was finished she left her work back into the classroom and headed off to lunch.
O (10) Woo go you! Fab work, good luck with the rest of the year. Edited by Professor Aurora Merrythought, Aug 15 2009, 05:41 AM.

Summer break had been nothing less then perfection, well for Abigail Lurken anyway. She had spent vacation in her home with Theodore Snow, her best friend, and most recently her boyfriend. Peter had even warmed up to him, which was a lot for the little boy because he was so shy. Noelle of course had spoken to her about being friends with a Snow but the Slytherin assured her that there was nothing to worry about. Of course her adoptive mother was still hesitant but she really didn't care what Noelle thought about Theodore, she knew the truth about him. Now, however, those happy times were only memories and Abbey was back at Hogwarts New Zealand much to her dismay. She was tired of the drama and the gossip that seemed to revolve around her because of Isabella. Of course now everyone knew of her past because of the Gossip Magazine, and she planned to tell Andromeda Fiorelli who was the writer because like herself, she was the object of harsh gossip and rumors. Whether it was true or not was really not her business. Of course, with the return of students, came the return of classes; today it was Muggle Studies. Her first lesson in fact. She was taking every elective, and this included a course that was not exactly normal for a Pureblood to take. In fact she was certain that none of her friends were taking it for the simple fact that their parents wouldn't approve. She knew her own wouldn't have if they were alive but they died a long time ago and she had been raised in a muggle setting. Abbey had much appreciation for muggles, but was proud to be a Pureblood instead of being a muggleborn or a muggle. This class was bound to be simple for her, and if it was not, well she would just make sure she worked hard on it. Abbey, afterall, wanted to be a Prefect, then Head Girl, both of which included having outstanding marks in all of her classes. Last semester she hadn't done her very best in Astronomy, but she knew that next year she would improve in it, along with Care of Magical Creatures. Expecting anything from the Hufflepuff Head of House, Abbey got dressed in her silver and green uniform that hugged her forming figure comfortably, with a long black robe, with a sharp-looking Slytherin crest on the right breast. Her black hair was straightened and pulled up into a pony tail, but the dark colour still shone onto her slightly darker skin as she walked up from the dirty Dungeons and up to the brighter and cleaner first floor, ignoring the hunger that rumbled in her stomach for breakfast. As Abigail appeared in the door way to the Muggle Studies class, she looked around and only saw Patricia Rogers, a girl she had met on a few occasions and Professor Weiss. She flashed the woman a polite smile as she pulled on her clunky, black glasses then walked in. "Good Morning Professor," she said, with her thick and lower class Brittish accent. Deciding that this would be the perfect chance to make friends outside of her circle, Abbey took a seat beside Patricia. She was about to, routinely, take out parchment, quill and ink when she saw the familiar muggle materials that she hadn't used since she was twelve. Almost two years now. A thin and shakey smile arrived on her lips as she thought of her orphanage before Mrs. Cajou's death. It was a good time, not the best, but it was good for her situation anyway. Through the clear glass, Abigail's violet iris' cut through each soul in the room. She picked them apart and came with the conclusion that like herself, this would be a fly course for them or they had a general interest for the subject, not that Abbey didn't, she just knew a lot about the muggle world. All reason why she let another student answer Professor Weiss' question, she didn't want to have a bad impression, not on the first day, not ever. As the blonde haired woman said that she was a Ravenclaw at Hogwarts England she couldn't help but wonder why she was the Hufflepuff Head of House. It didn't make sense to her, but she spoke not of it, and packed up her things once dismissed, silently walking to her dorm room to get her homework done, without possibly being ridiculed by the rest of the students in her house for taking a Mudblood or blood traitor course, not that they all were pure like she. Upon arriving at the Slytherin house she went towards the elegently decorated dorm room that was reserved for the elite, the few, the pure, the members of the Glam Squad. Abbey took a seat on her bed, and just before beginning to to the assigned work, she picked up the white, lined paper dantily and brought it close to her face and inhaled softly. The scent was different to parchment, as was the texture and the colouring, something she enjoyed emensly. But not wishing to become a procrastinator, she picked up the black pen and began writing as neatly as she could.
O (10) Well done, spectacular work. Looking forward to the work from you for the rest of the year. Edited by Professor Aurora Merrythought, Aug 17 2009, 05:00 PM.
