Professor Weiss was sitting on her desk, waiting for the students to arrive. There were a number of muggle communication devices about the room. Once the students were in their seats, she jumped down and welcomed them.

"Good Tuesday to you all. Today we are going to begin our study on muggle communications, which is our theme for the year. We are going to start by focusing on voice communications."

"Muggles use what is called a telephone to communicate from one house to another, or phones for short. The phone was invented by a man named Alexander Graham Bell. Each person with a phone is assigned a number that allows another phone owner to contact them by punching the number in to the keypad like this." Professor Weiss picked up a cordless phone from a desk next to her and showed the keypad. "The numbers that make up the numbers are from 0 to 9 and are punched in a specific order to get to a specific person."

"There are a number of different styles of phones available. When you are in a muggle home, you may see any number of kinds around. I have a few here, and you may feel free to check them out and play with them after a bit."

"There is also what is called a cellular phone. These are phones that are able to be taken with the person. The number when dialed will make the phone on the person ring."

"Okay, I am going to give you time to play with some of the phones around, and feel free to ask me any questions you may have about them. Your homework is on the board."

RP the lesson and for homework please write a paragraph or two on Alexander Graham Bell.

Andromeda walked into the class and smiled at the professor. She really liked coming to this class it always made her feel closer to home somehow, well her home back in Ireland at any rate. She smiled when she saw the various phones on the desks near the front of the class room and wondered briefly if any of them actually worked. Would there be any reception here in the magic school for the cellular ones?

As the class progressed Andy knew she didn't have to take notes but using her pen and notepad, did so any how. She wasn't sure if she could find any books in the library regarding Alexander Bell so thought instead to write to her godmother for some text book or other that could help her besides her muggle studies book. The class seemed to fly by and though she hadn't thought it necessary for her to go look at the phones, she did so anyway. If anything to simply check for a signal. The thought of phoning her family back in Ireland was irresistable but she knew as she tried each one that there was no phone call being made today. With the class finally over she bade Professor Weiss adieu and left to write her letter to Essie for that book.

Alexander Graham Bell was born on the 3rd March 1847. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Bell's first invention was at the age of 12 years when he built a dehusking machine for his friend's family mill. He was homeschooled by his father until he was old enough to attend the Royal High School in Edinburgh. He was never an exceptional student and preferred to pay attention to the sciences and very little to any other subject.

He had many influences in his life for the inspiration behind the phone. His brother, father and grandfather all worked with speech therapy and elocution, while his mother and subsequently his wife were deaf. He is credited with inventing the telephone. He was also a founding member of the National Geographic Society.

Slytherin Fifth Year

Caina wasn't really looking to Muggle studies. She was just still slightly unsure about how she felt about being the only Slytherin in such a class. Sure in reality there were not many Slytherins in her year but those who were wouldn't be caught dead in such a class. What was wrong with her? Why did she even say she would be in this class? Was it because she knew it would be easy because she was indeed muggleborn or was it because she was more than ready to stand out and be noticed? To this question Caina wasn't sure.

Though either way, Caina entered the classroom seeing that she was only the second student in the classroom. Shrugging her shoulders she took her seat in the back wondering what would be discussed in this lesson. Hopefully something Caina was used to in the muggle realm.

The Professor soon began and it was on nothing else but muggle communications mostly telephones and such. Easy enough for this fourth year Slytherin. There wasn't even a need to take notes.

An essay was soon given, Caina rolled her eyes knowing that she would really have to research this. Why couldn't the essay be on something easier like how to use a telephone. Packing up her things, Caina left the classroom walking straight to the Slytherin common room to do the essay.

Alexander Graham Bell was most commonly known for the inventor of the telephone. Of course he had done many other things in his lifetime. Things such as founding the Volta Laboratory. The Volta Laboratory actually helped work with those who were deaf. Helen Keller being one of those people who was taught in that institute. Bell's greatest achievement was the invention of the telephone. On March 7, 1876 the telephone was patented by Bell and within a year the popularity grew.
