"Good afternoon, class!" Professor Glasson shouted as the students walked into the classroom. "What a wonderful day it is today!" She stopped and smiled, looking around at the class as they took their seats. "I have decided to give you all a little treat today. Since you have been doing so well in my class, I have decided to give you a day off of boring lectures and classrooms. We are going on a field trip!" She said so enthusiastically that some of the students snickered.

Isolde walked around to the back of her desk and pulled out a very small ancient relic shaped like a mummy. It only stood about a foot high, but some of the students in the front row cowered away. "Don't worry, this is completely harmless. I would like for someone to tell me how we are allowed to travel from this school since we cannot apparate. Anyone....." She looked around the room and saw someone towards the back of the room with their hand up. "Yes, sweetie?" The student stated in a matter of fact tone, "Portkeys. Just by touching one, you will be taken to another location where another portkey is located." Isolde clapped her hands, beaming at the student. "Excellent! You are absolutely right!" She smiled at all the students, evidently excited for the lesson to come. "I know some of you don't find this," she gestured to the miniature mummy, "very appealing, but it's the only one I have."

She paused for a moment, trying to remember what she was going to say next, then said, "Oh, yes! I almost forgot to tell you where we are going! How many of you have heard of the Smithsonian Museum?" She waited as almost every hand in the room went up. "Well, for those of you who don't know, the Smithsonian Museum is one of the largest museums in the world. It is located in Washington D.C. and holds some of the world’s greatest historical displays."

"Now, I bet you are all wondering why I'm taking you to a muggle museum, which has nothing to do with magic. Well, let me explain. History is everywhere we look; both magical and muggle. In order for you to completely understand history, you must look at it from every vantage point." Isolde had studied both magical and muggle history - it was amazing to see how the two often fitted together

Isolde walked to the front of the room, and pointed at the portkey. "Once everyone is ready, I would like all of you to walk to the front of the room and place your hands on the mummy. But before you do, I would like all of you to leave your robes behind; of course leaving on the uniforms underneath. I would also like for all of you to leave behind your wands, you will have no use for them there. We are going to pretend that we are a group from a private muggle school. There should be no questions asked." She paused again, going over a mental checklist, and then decided she had said everything she wanted to. "Right, now everyone please step to the front of the room and place your hands on the mummy." Isolde waited as they walked forward.

Once all the students had placed their hands on the mummy, they were sucked inward; as if through their belly-buttons; and suddenly reappeared right behind the great Smithsonian Museum. "All right students. I have here passes for all of you to view all the exhibits." she paused as she handed them to all the students. "I am going to give you four hours, and I would like you to meet back here once the time is up. There are several buildings here, so please don't get lost. If you should happen to get turned around, find someone else from the group and make sure you know where you need to go. I think that's about it, now all of you have a good time and don't forget where to meet." Isolde walked with the students until they reached the front of the buildings, and then they all went their separate ways. Isolde walked in to one of the buildings herself, happy to take the time to look through the exhibits. Four hours wasn't going to be long enough for her, but she was sure she could cope.

*****HOMEWORK**********

Homework will be simple today. I would like you to RP going to the Smithsonian Museum. There is no limit to the RP, but I'd like more than a couple of sentences. Feel free to godmod me, if you wish! :) For extra credit write a VERY brief summary of one of the exhibits there. I would like no less than 100 words; which isn't really that much once you think about it. I would also like links to your resources. I have also included a couple of good websites that I found for the Smithsonian. Feel free to use those. Have fun!

Toni had actually enjoyed writing the essay on Sarah Good last week even though towards everyone including her friends and the Professor she complained greatly about the boring essay topic. That was just how Toni was. She was going to do anything to get good grades and still act as if she didn't try and hated school. Maybe one day this Slytherin would grow out of that need for people to think that she didn't care about school, but that was probably never going to happen.

Waking up, Toni gave Sadie, her kitten, a pat on her head. It was awhile since Sadie had actually woken Toni up. This young Slytherin came to the conclusion that Sadie just loved to sleep in. That was fine with Toni, Toni would be doing the same if she didn't have classes.

Getting ready, Toni threw on her uniform of coarse making sure she looked her best and even then she wanted to look even better. Pulling her hair up into a simple yet lovely french braid, she grabbed her books and left the dorm.

There were a few older Slytherins in the common room as Toni passed but really she paid them no mind. It wasnt' like they were all that important to her as she was probably nothing in their eyes.

Without much wait Toni arrived in the History of Magic classroom seeing that yet again she was the first to arrive. "Drat" She mumbled hoping that no one would notice that she was the first to arrive two weeks in a row. That would just lead to people thinking she cared about getting here on time, which really that wasn't too important to Toni at all.

Finally the class of students wondered in and the Professor began in her upbeat and peppy tone that actually annoyed Toni a bit. Rolling her eyes half way before stopping at the word field trip. Though as the Professor took out a very disgusting looking mummy, Toni couldn't hide her face showing exactly how she had distaste for such a thing.

As the professor began to speak again, a question was asked. Deciding that answering a simple question would not give Toni that image of caring too much, Toni raised her thin arm. "Portkeys. Just by touching one, you will be taken to another location where another portkey is located." Toni said though she couldn't help but smile slightly at the praise she recieved even if she had been called sweetie.

It didn't much matter to Toni where they were going. But at least when she learned it was the Smithsonian Museum it wasn't an awful idea for an outting. Deciding against raising her hand when the Professor asked who had ever heard or been to this place, Toni looked around the room to see the fair few of hands.

Within a few minutes the Professor had told them what to do and the chatter began in the room. Toni took off her robes making sure her uniform looked just about perfect underneath. How she wanted a few accessories to help her out a bit.

Walking slowly over to the mummy, Toni touched it just as little as she possibly could knowing very well that she was going to have to wash her hands after touching such an odd and disgusting portkey.

The traveling by portkey was nothing new to Toni and soon she found herself in front of the Smithsonian Museum running her fingers through her hair making sure that not a strand was out of place.

Four Hours Toni thought as she walked inside. The place was so huge, Toni could see herself getting lost without much of a problem. Deciding it to be best to actually remember where she was going and to get a map. Looking over the map, Toni noticed an exhibit with pandas. Now Toni might have a heart of stone at times but she really did love animals.

Her shoes clicking slightly as she made her way over to the panda exhibit. Looking at the two pandas, watching with interest. For the first time in awhile Toni was not speaking much at all.

The hours passed by quite fast as Toni favorited a few exhibits her favorite being the hope diamond followed by the pandas and even the peacock room. Others were interesting but not on the top of her list.

Finding her way back to the entrance of the building, Toni met up with the rest of the class. Once more reaching out and touching the portkey, Toni shivered once before being taken right back to the castle landing gracefully on the History of Magic classroom floor.

Grabbing her books, this young Slytherin left of coarse her robe in hand. Back in the dorm, Toni actually decided to give the extra credit a go. Taking her quill she began to ink down a few things about her favorite exhibit, the Hope diamond.

The Hope Diamond
The hope diamond was one of my favorite exhibits at the Smithsonian Museum. It is a very nice shade of grayish blue that seems to almost shine in the lighting. Really I would love to have such a stone as one of my many acessories as would plenty of others. Even in the history of this stone, which has been passed around from people to people, many have made it into a necklace even adding diamonds around it to add more to its jewelry qualities. This stone first started in the hands of Jean Baptiste Tavernier but throughout the years it ended up in the last hands of Harry Winston which then lead it to it's last spot the Smithsonian Museum

Taylor stepped out of the bathroom, hair still slightly damp, but she felt better. She had been feeling a little groggy this morning from that flu she had a few days ago, but a nice hot shower had done the trick. Blow drying her hair so it sat in its usual curls Taylor made her way down to breakfast, her bag on her shoulder.

After a nice meal of bacon and eggs, Taylor made her way to the History of Magic classroom, glad she felt better this week and could possibly stay awake. She had done a read through of the notes she made last week and it made more sense than it had when she was half asleep in class when she had wrote them.

Entering the classroom, she noticed quite a few people there. She took a seat at the back, not bothering to pull out her quill and parchment just yet. Hoping that maybe if she didnt get her equipment, they would have a better chance of not doing notes. Sitting back until the rest of the class arrived, Taylor let her mind slip to other things. Particularly other things in the Ravenclaw house.

Once everyone was seated, the Professor greeted them, with an overly happy attitude. Taylor was relieved to hear they were going on a field trip. Ooo this should be interesting. She thought to herself. She then heard the name of the museum and she vaguely remembered hearing about it somewhere, although she couldnt say she was overly familiar with it.

Taylor heard they would be traveling by portkey and couldnt help but groan a little. She had only taken one once, from her Mums house to her aunties place who was living in America at the time. It wasnt an overly pleasent experience for a seven year old, but nevertheless, she couldnt really complain now. At least she was getting out of school work. Not really wanting to leave her wand behind, she took it everywhere with her and she slept with it under her pillow. It had come to mean alot to her and leaving it behind was something she was alittle wary of. She would just have to deal with it, she supposed. Placing it on the desk with her robes she walked up to the front of the class and crowded around the mummy statue with the rest of the class and in a flash they were at the Museum.

They were told they had four hours and looking around Taylor didnt know which way to go or where to begin. Taylor noted Toni had a map and thought they was probably the best way to go. Picking one up herself, she glanced down at it. Noting quite a few exibits that seemed of interest to her. She saw what was called the peacock room. She liked the animal she supposed, so followed the map to check out what it was.

Finding herself looking at nothing but a room, she read the description but it didnt make alot of sense. All it was, was a room with peacocks painted on it. Checking her map again, she saw a panda exibit. Now that looked interesting. She once again followed the paths on the map and came to an exhibit displaying two living breathing pandas. This was better than some room. She watched the pandas for a moment. Taylor loved animals, always had and big fluffy bears definatly had a high place on her favourite list.

After strolling around for a bit more, neglecting her map as she simply roamed, she checked it one last time after looking at an American art gallery. Noticing something about a Hope Diamond, she followed her map for the last time that day and wound up staring at a gorgeous, huge blue diamond. It was stunning. She read up a little on it and then checked the time. It was almost time to go. She made her way back to where they had met. The field trip over. Well at least it was better than school work.

Aeon entered the HoM classroom in his usual happy way and saw only two other
classmates there. He smiled to himself and quietly took a seat up front while the rest of the students came in and seated themselves so they could start the lesson.
Aeon was about to take out his writing things, expecting another lecture, but was
surprised to find out they were going on a field trip by portkey. He'd only used a portkey once before when he was younger but he hardly remembered it, so couldn't wait to use one, even if it did look as creepy as the one they had to use.

After wrapping his wand in his robes, Aeon made his way to the front of the class and immediately touched the mummy. Suddenly they were all behind the Smithsonian Museum and the Professor handed them passes and told them they had four hours till they had to return. Unfotunately Aeon couldn't find a group to go with so instead he went with the professor.

Just before entering the museum, Aeon realized he had his magical camera in his satchel and quickly took it out, then snapped a few shots of the museum before going in.

The museum was huge! Aeon didn't know how people knew their way around. He followed Isolde for a bit, but ended up losing sight of her. Damn. He thought, then looked around for a classmate he could go with so he would be able to get back. "Good luck finding someone with all these people." He muttered, then headed off in the direction he thought the professor went.

After a while of looking around he ended up in the egyptian mummy area.
Mummies were both cool and creepy to Aeon, the creepyness was mainly from them being dead and all. While looking around the area, he found out a few interesting things about mummies, especially the act that they pulled out the brains with a hook. The more he read the more ill he began to feel, all those organs being pulled out made him sick. Quickly, he made his way out of that area and continued on until he found the pandas.

The Pandas were pretty cool, and Aeon was able to get a few photos of them aswell. One of the pandas was even upside down which amused Aeon, until he found Professor Glasson again. With a sigh, he quickly joined her and headed off again.

They looked at some more animals, and Aeon got to see a baby gorilla and some giant ant eaters among other things he hadn't even heard of before. Finally the four hours were up and they returned to where they met and travelled back to the the school. Aeon quickly took his robe and wand before heading out of the classroom with the rest of the students
