Professor Aeon Summers

Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

[justify]As the last few students shuffled into the room, Aeon briefly raised his wand to the door, forcing it to swing shut after them. "Good afternoon and welcome back. It's nice to see you all here." Professor Summers said with a smile, glancing over the present students. No one seemed to be missing. "We've gone over and practiced Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration, so it's time to move on. We are going to get a start on transfiguring inanimate, or non-living object, into an animate, or living one. I've got quite a lot to teach you before you can attempt to cast a spell." The majority of the class seemed somewhat dismayed. They were no doubt all too aware that this meant another theory lesson. Aeon shrugged. It had to be done.

"Again, an inanimate object refers to any object that is nonliving. To change it into something animate, you will need to give your chosen object life. Sight, breath, limbs, anything that makes an animate object live. These types of transformations are immensely more difficult than inanimate to inanimate or animate to inanimate transformations, so pay close attention." With that, he motioned his wand toward the blackboard, animating the dormant chalkstick.

Inanimate to Animate Transfiguration

"Just like other transfigurations, when transfiguring something that is not alive into something that is alive, you must first have a very clear mental image of the thing that you are transfiguring. Every little detail, whether it be the different shape of the eyes, the texture of the skin, the color of the object - all of it must be visualized in your mind at the time of casting for a transfiguration spell to take proper effect. Skipping this very important step will often result in a misshapen object, or a completely failed transfiguration altogether."

Aeon took a moment to let it sink in, ensuring everyone was paying close attention. He snapped his fingers at a student who was drawing instead of taking notes, before moving on. "Any person that wishes to become successful at transfiguring inanimate objects must remember an important point: inanimate objects have no minds of their own. Not a single bit. All of it must be given by you, the caster. The first and most often forgotten step is that a button or a chess piece doesn't have a mind to control automatic responses or a thinking process. Therefore, when a wizard or witch casts a spell on an inanimate object and changes it into a living creature, they must create a brain for the object. A few thoughts about eating insects here, a long sticky tongue there, some slimy, bumpy skin, and you have created a frog. BUT, if this step is not performed correctly, then the object will change into the animal, but - it might very well be brain-dead."

Some faces paled at the thought, others looked bored. It was a very important lesson, and he still had to talk about the wand movement for inanimate to animate transfiguration, but he decided to get them to refocus and get enthused, he'd give them a demonstration.

"I'll show you exactly what this type of transfiguration can do." Summers informed them, gesturing with his wand toward an empty chair to the side of the room. It bloomed into a brightly coloured flamingo, its pink feathers standing out against the darker background, and it strutted around the class with hardly a care in the world.

"That is an example of Inanimate to Animate Transfiguration." Aeon said as some of the students watched, fascinated as it approached them, some reaching out to stroke its feathers, which had only been mere wood moments early. Aeon's eyes meanwhile drifted to the clock, noting how late it was. "Unfortunately that's all we have time for today. I promise the next few lessons will be more exciting." He said, reluctantly changing the flamingo back into a boring old chair.

Sapphire was glad she had decided to focus more on her classes- for now, at any rate. She had spent most of her free time practicing for Quidditch, though she left an hour or two at the end of the night for schoolwork. No need to have Kira yell at her for getting bad grades.

She came into Transfiguration, interested in what the Professor had for them today. She wasn't quite surprised when it was a theory lesson, but she still wasn't disappointed. The subject itself was interesting enough to keep her attention- at least, that's what she thought. As the lecture continued, she found herself doodling in the corners of her notes.

It wasn't until the Professor snapped his fingers at her that she had realized she'd drifted. She blinked, coming back into focus. She glanced down at her paper, becoming irritated when she noticed the elaborately curled letter M that had taken over one corner of her notes. She had thought she was over that. She blacked it out with a small frown, throwing herself back into the lesson and taking detailed notes.

The chair to Flamingo trick really drove the lesson home for her. She didn't dare touch it- what if she broke it? But she still stared at is strutted by. The Professor excused them then, and the flamingo was once again a regular chair. Her mind on the pink feathered beast, she left the room.

Onyx took a seat next to Sapphire, interested in today's subject. Lectures were fun, he thought, because he could lean back and lay an arm around his sister's shoulder as he listened to the Professor talk. He would steal his sister's notes later, or just ask Kira if she had any on the subject. They were halfway through the lecture when the Professor snapped in their direction. Raising a brow, he turned to look at Sapphire to find her blocking out a doodle in the margins of her paper. He hadn't been quick enough to see all of it, but it looked like it had been some sort of letter.

He smiled at her, before turning his attention back to class. He reached out to pet the flamingo as it strutted by. Before he knew it, class was over. He groaned inwardly. He'd been rather comfortable. With a sigh, he stood and led his sister out of class.

Gwen couldn't believe that she was already halfway done with the semester. It all seemed to be happening so quickly but the girl knew that there was still so much more to learn in all of her classes and so didn't let the excitement of holidays get in the way too soon. When Gwen saw her next class was Transfiguration she promptly made her way here and unpacked everything she needed. She enjoyed the last lessons as she was able to use her wand and so wasn't surprised when the professor announced that this lesson they would have to sit through a lecture which Gwen made sure to write notes throughout. When the professor transfigured a plain chair into a pretty flamingo, Gwen's eyes widened and she was one of the ones to reach out and pet it, giggling when she touched its soft feathers which were simply wood before. At the end of the lesson the Gryffindor thanked the professor before heading out of the classroom and straight to her next class.

Anastasie was happy that the semester was halfway through. It meant that exams were coming closer and she wanted to try her best in them. The Slytherin packed her backpack before making her way out of her dormitory and to her first class of the day. Transfiguration was proving to be quite pleasing lately as she was getting the spells and having a fun time doing them and she was eager to see what this lesson had to offer. As she entered the room, Ana sat in her usual spot near the front and turned her attention to the professor. As he began the lecture Ana made sure to scribble away notes on her piece of parchment, watching with amusement as he turned a plain wooden chair into a flamingo. She wondered if it still had the capabilities of an actual flamingo, and what the difference was between an ordinary flamingo and this one, if there were any. At the end of the lesson Ana packed everything away before heading out if the classroom and to the library so she could get started on some assignments.
