Each desk had an individual Box with a few snails munching away on what ever they could find to munch one, the plastic container however had thick walls so the snails couldn't escape without assistance, in front of the boxes was a high edged tray with a pair of plastic tongs. Professor Frost waited for all students to arrive so she could begin her lesson, which today was Vanishing Snails.

'Good Day Class, now, Snails shouldn't be too hard to make vanish, they're not going anywhere any time soon, You should all be well practiced in making objects Vanish, so what I would like you all to do is to open the lid of your container and either using you fingers or the plastic tongs provided, pick up a snail and place it in the smaller tray in front of you and you guessed it, make it Vanish' Using on hand she brushed her long brown hair out of her face and then gestured towards the board 'The spell is on the board in case by some miracle you've forgotten, please make your snail Vanish and if you wish to have more practice you may try on another Snail, once confident you are dismissed'

Walking around she watched some students get their snails out and helped others who refused to touch them ''Just a heads up everyone, next lesson the object we will be vanishing will be slightly harder and faster so be ready for that

Tristan's year was going fine so far, but he had to start making plans for the future. Halloween was now around the corner, but he didn't really care about that feast. What he was looking forward to was the yule ball, and he felt like it was time to start arranging for a date. He was hoping to go with October, but the Ravenclaw was as aloof as ever. If not, he needed someone else. Corrine was now off the table as a viable option, so Tristan didn't really know who else he could ask. He would need to keep his eyes open.

Tristan was excited for today's Transfiguration lesson. Last time, they had spent their time vanishing erasers and he was hopeful for another practical lesson. The professor had told them at the start of the year they would be focusing on vanishing this semester, so he wasn't surprised they were going to vanish something else today. Snails made sense, as they were more complex than anything inanimate, but he did wonder what that implied. Did that mean a very skilled person could vanish a person? He supposed that would be murder, but it would also get rid of the evidence in one go. He pushed those thoughts away, they were a little chilling. He took a snail out of the container and placed it on the tray. He used the vanishing spell on the snail the same way he had vanished the eraser. It took a few tries, but he managed to vanish it.

[justify]Signy had thought that doing the OWLs would be much more difficult than they were so far turning out to be. She was doing a little more work each evening but really it wasn’t proving too bad so far. The extra time she gave for herself to do homework and study was more than enough and it wasn’t much more than she had already been putting in. The hufflepuff had been working hard on her classes for years and it wasn’t proving to be too difficult each additional year as the classes got harder. She had gotten rather good at what she needed to do to ensure she passed her classes and achieved as highly as she could. Signy got the feeling that with her OWLs, if she put in a little more work she might be able to push up her grade, but she didn’t think it was worth it, she still had other things to do, and there was no guarantee of the high grade. Her system now ensure that she worked hard and she was certain in what she got, her attention span was kept the entire time where it might not if she extended herself too much. All in all, Signy was rather looking forward to the classes she had that day.

Signy had spent some of the past week actually practicing the spell they had learned in Transfiguration. She hadn't thought she would have the time, but she absolutely had and every spare moment she could she practiced a little. It just meant that upon arriving at the transfiguration classroom, she was feeling pretty confident about how well she would do. The prefect's gaze shifted up to the professor as the woman got started. Signy listened to the brief lecture, which made sense, they had just done most of the work in the week before. She took one of the snails and was glad there was such an abundance so she would be able to practice more than once and just took it back to her seat. She watched the snail for a moment before pointing her wand at it and after tapping three times said, "Evanesco," the creature vanished before her eyes and boy was Signy happy that it had done that. She was so pleased with herself. She did keep working, using other snails and making sure that she knew the spell and could do it well. All in all just using the remained of her time in class as wisely as possible.

October had enjoyed Transfiguration last week, and looked forward to getting more practice. Vanishing could be pretty useful, she was quickly realising, and couldn't wait to learn to vanish more complicated things. If only that rude girl last year had known how to vanish things, maybe she wouldn't have completely ruined October's Arithmancy notes, an encounter she was still somewhat bitter about. Taking her usual seat at the front of class, October's nose wrinkled as she saw the disgusting creature on her desk. How awful! October hoped they would be vanishing the snails, wanting the slimy thing away from her as quickly as possible. She listened to the Professor as she spoke, relieved that hopefully she had practiced the spell enough to get rid of the snail as quickly as possible. Once they were told to start she opened her container, pulling a face as she used the tongs to carefully move her snail from the box into the little tray, trying not to look at it too much. Picking up her wand she took a deep breath before casting the spell, relieved beyond belief when her snail vanished at once. Thankful that her practice had paid off, October decided that she was confident enough in her ability, and didn't really want to have to be near another snail any time soon. Packing up her things quickly, she left the classroom, glad to be over with the disgusting task.

Corrine entered the classroom, thinking about what they would be vanishing next. A desk? Their chairs? She'd be happy with either. Corrine had always hoped lessons would become more interesting, and while they were more useful, she still didn't love coming to lessons. As she took her seat, Corrine glanced around at her classmates. It was crazy to her that five years later she still only knew the names of most of them. Gone was the idea she'd come in with of getting to know most of them. They'd cliqued up pretty quickly , and she had somehow missed out on all of that. It was no matter these days. She had Xena when she wasn't busy with her boyfriend and Rory whenever they ran into each other, which was less often than you'd expect for roommates. Corrine was fairly content.

As the professor set them to their task, Corrine took a small and placed it on the tray. It moved slowly around, a slimy trail behind it. Corrine watched as the rest of her classmates began to work, but there was no way she was vanishing a living thing. Professor Summers had taught them about Transfiguration as a punishment, wizards turning other wizards into statues, even. She found this to be similar, and it didn't matter to her that this was a snail and not a human. Corrine was not going to do it. So, she pulled out her box of supplies and practiced vanishing a quill and then the tray that the snail had been on, after she moved him off of it of course. Vanishing was still difficult, but it was feeling easier by the end of the lesson.

As she began to pack, Corrine froze up in hearing they'd be vanishing a larger animal. She looked around at her classmates. Wasn't anyone else upset by this? Lifting her bag, Corrine rushed out of the room.

Questioning Everything | Honeydukes Assistant | fifth year

[justify]By this point in the semester, Jerara always had a good handle on the workload, and there was only a little that he wasn’t quite getting yet, so he knew that from here on out he would need to just focus a little less on his own private reading. Inevitably, he always knew that would have to go first before any of the rest of it did. It wasn’t something he was too bothered with, he would do it whenever he had the chance, and he knew that it was important to do well in his exams. He didn’t think the exams were a true marker of his own knowledge, but he would comply with the school system. He had to, he was a prefect now. It wasn’t like Jerara had ever been much of a troublemaker, but he had even less reason to now. He just had a deep desire and growing desire to learn everything, to fill in the gaps of his knowledge left by classes. Jerara was in fact finishing off some homework as he got ready, homework he didn’t need until later and he was half doing that while getting ready. Eventually being all good and leaving for the class. He’d finish the homework after.

Jerara had grown to really enjoy the lessons of transfiguration, they were now at a point of fewer lectures and far more just jumping into the spells themselves. They had been doing the vanishing spells in the last lesson and he was rather keen to do it again, knowing that it would be good fun to become more advanced with the spell. The teen walked into the room and took a seat, he had his wand out and waited the few moments as the professor told them what they would be doing, which was just vanishing a snail. He could do that. After the brief introduction, he rose to his feet and took one of the snails back to his desk. The little creature was rather gross, and Jerara had no real issue making such a thing disappear. He pointed his wand at it and after doing the motion said, "Evanesco," it didn't disappear on his first try so he did it again, fairly pleased when they managed it on that turn. He got a second and then a third snail, vanishing both of those without much of a thought, or even much effort. He practiced and did the spell over and over until the lesson was brought to an end and he left, keen to get to something bigger.
