Fourth Years, Lesson Three
Topic Started: Jun 3 2018, 06:42 AM (61 Views)
Professor Landon Carter
Member Avatar
Ilvermorny graduate | Former Thunderbird | Herbology years 1-4

Landon waited for his class to enter as he leaned against his desk, and greeted them as usual, "Hey guys! Don't bother sitting down. We are going out today." He tugged a bit on his gloves, "Get your gloves and work robes. There are goggles in that crate on the way out the door. Get a pair. I have enough here for everyone. Now, what we are doing today is simple. Cultivating Bubotubers." He didn't notice the disgusted look on some of his student's faces and simply smiled at them all, knowing that they would learn a lot that lesson.

Landon walked toward the door and motioned, "Follow me!" He led them to a large patch where many large, black Bubotubers stuck vertically out of the ground. There were plenty for the students to be split up between. "That mound on the ground for their nutrients is Mooncalf Dung." It was hard for him to collect, however, and he used magic instead of actually touching it with his hands. At least it had no odor.

"Now, I want you to take handfuls and spread it around evenly. Be careful not to poke or prod any of the swellings." Landon smiled as he watched the class carefully do as told. Once everyone was done, he silently cast a scourgify spell on their gloves and robes. "I'll water them tonight, if it doesn't rain. They will have their fulfill of nutrients. By the next lesson, they will be ready to have their pus drained and collected. You may leave once you collect your things."

----------
Assignment: RP the lesson.

[justify]This week had been tense for anyone that was a fan of Quidditch. After watching her friends battle it out in Ravenclaw and Slytherin, Geo had been pleased to see the blue house had won but multiple casualties had been taken on both sides. At the end of the week she'd be facing Gryffindor herself and she could only hope that she was going to leave the pitch in a better shape than her friends had. As ever things were a little up in the air too with Austin, and she trusted that if a bludger was to head in her direction, that he'd be able to intervene before it got her.

Geo had remembered to bring her gloves to this lesson, and she was particularly glad to have done so when she heard they'd be handling mooncalf dung. Mooncalves were adorable but she didn't think their product would be. Slipping them on she did as she was instructed and began to take handfuls of the stuff and spread it around, although she didn't want to stick around and find out what did happen if she were to accidentally hit one of the swellings. It didn't really sound particularly great and she's was happy to avoid it. Once they were done she peeled off her gloves, wondering why they needed to learn how to plant things as well as harvest them. Surely they could just buy it in its completed form? Packing away her things she made back to the castle by herself, hopeful to meet up with Austin before he next lesson.

Last match against Slytherin had been brutal and Elly seemed to be the bludger magnet of the game. Alongside with the Slytherin seeker who also got hit twice. Elly couldn't stay in her injury a lot longer since she had lessons to go to. Getting hurt in Quidditch wasn't an excuse to forget about the lessons you were needed to do. Although Elly didn't want to get delayed with homework and classes she couldn't deny her injuries. That Slytherin beater had some skill and although Elly wasn't much of a wuss it still hurt like hell. Elly walked to the greenhouse in excitement Herbology was her favorite subject.

Elly was prepared and had even found her gloves. Elly was wearing her work robes and her gloves and was ready to do whatever was needed today. She grabbed a pair of goggles and put them on her head. When the Professor started to explain what they were going to do even Elly was grossed out. She didn't like handling poop even if it came from a magical creature. It didn't smell or anything, but it was still poop. She grabbed a handful and spread it over the plots. When she was done with her plot she left the classroom and returned the goggles. She was ready to rest from her Quidditch injuries.

Teddy Bear 🐻 Explorer 🌲 Sweetheart

The year was halfway through and Perry had it pretty easy so far. He had dropped quiet a few of classes and only took care of the magical creatures as an elective. Which was only given next period and that made his schedule only more empty. Today Perry was happy and he didn't know why. Maybe it was because Halloween was coming up or the badminton game had done with April. Perry had already picked his costume and couldn't wait to join the feast. Each year a lot of lovely food appeared on the table and Perry wasn't one to deny good food. He played enough sports to burn the calories off.

Herbology was amazing and Perry arrived in the greenhouse early. He had brought his gloves and work robes and was ready to interact with plants. They were finally doing something with plants and that was what Herbology was for Perry. He picked a pair of goggles out of the crate and walked with the others outside. Caring for the plants actually meant dumping poop on them which wasn't Perry his hearts desire. He soon grabbed a handful and placed it neatly alongside the plant. Carefully not to touch them. He repeated this process a couple of times so all of the plants had enough dung to go with. Luckily for him the dung didn't smell and it wasn't a very hard thing to do. When he was done he left the classroom to play soccer outside.

Excited | Slightly Annoying | Loves Attention | Seeker | Tall

April had enjoyed watching her stepsister play Quidditch for Ravenclaw, and it made her very excited about her own match. With the old seeker gone, she had no doubt they could beat Gryffindor for sure. She was now the more experienced seeker, and though she was sure Tomas would do well, she knew she could do better. It made her both nervous and excited, but she wasn't all that worried. She was confident the badgers would win this one.

It was hard to focus on classes when her mind was so preoccupied with Quidditch, but April didn't mind so much when it came to Herbology. At least, that was until she entered the classroom and remembered what they were going to do today. She had forgotten about the Bubotubers. With a sigh, she followed Professor Carter out after grabbing her gloves, work robes and putting on goggles. Her mood was quickly sinking as she saw the disgusting plants again. Why did they have to work with them? And DUNG to boot? Carefully, she placed the moon dung around a few of the Bubotubers, pulling a face the entire time. She was glad not to have touched any of the swellings when she was done, and quickly took off her gloves. She felt like she needed a shower, she probably reeked of dung and petrol.

Kauri wasn't especially keen on working with Bubotubers, as important as medicinal plants were. They just sounded and looked gross, and the thought of handling pus especially made his stomach turn. He made his way down to the greenhouse though, making sure not to forget his gloves. He definitely didn't want his bare hands anywhere near anything so yucky. Wondering if Professor Carter would let him wear a protective mask as well, Kauri listened with disgust as the lesson started, heart sinking as he followed the Professor to the patch of plants. He listened to the instructions with dismay, desperate not to have to do this. He avoided the plants as long as possible, but eventually had no choice but to start working. At least they didn't really have to do anything with the awful plants. Spreading fertiliser was gross too, but Kauri could handle this. He laid the fertiliser out carefully, avoiding the plants as much as possible. He was relieved when class was over and Professor Carter cleaned his clothes for him. His heart sank though, as Professor Carter said what they would be doing next week. Draining pus?! That sounded nightmarish, and Kauri left class feeling a little nauseous just at the thought.

[justify]As the semester pushed on, Norton was enjoying himself more and more. He had a quidditch game soon, he would be able to play for a couple of hours which he knew he would enjoy, hopefully though he wouldn’t get hit with too many bludgers. He doubted it, or hoped he wouldn’t. They were playing Gryffindor and Gryffindor were just mean when it came to bludgers, he didn’t care if that was the same role as he was supposed to be doing. The boy was getting ready for the day of classes ahead, knowing he would need to account for some quidditch practices often within the week. The teen was making sure he had everything he would need, all of the little bits of homework and notes from the previous week. They did have quite a bit more work this semester, but he wasn’t going to start complaining about that. In fact he was rather happy about it, he was enjoying the work that they had, which did make it a little easier to do and a little easier to focus on. Both of which would be good for him come the end of the semester and hopefully the exams. With that, he made sure he had everything and left for the class.

Norton had enjoyed learning about the bubtober and he was excited to see them in this next lesson. He walked into the classroom and took his usual spot in the room. He knew as he stepped into the room, exactly what they would doing. The professor had said they would be planting the plant. Norton was looking forward to it because of course he was. The teen loved doing things. he sat in the classroom ready to get started on it. The teen wasn't surprised what they were told to put on protective clothing and then left for where the lesson was. Where they would be cultivating, not planting the plants. He listened to the professor as the man told them what they would be doing. Spreading the mixture upon the plants. It wasn't too fun really, well the smell wasn't too fun. But the boy did his work and he took it seriously. he liked the class and he wanted to do well in it, and he wanted to learn all he could about magic and that was the way to do it. After the class the boy made sure to wash his hands several times over before walking out of the room. It had been an oddly interesting lesson. With that he left the greenhouse and headed inside.

[justify]Going to classes had always been hard for Gilly, she had rarely found the motivation to actually go along to those places. It had always been boring, complicated and just weird. She had then some catching up to do on some of the classes she had either not gone to or never paid attention in. The girl had hoped that this semester would be the one where she caught up entirely, but it was also proving to be the one where she had to spend twice as long doing piece of work she knew others were doing quickly. But, at the very least she was enjoying it. She liked the classes she was doing, what they were doing in them and for the first time she felt curious about magic. Something she hadn’t felt even when finding out she was magical. Enough time had passed from her mother’s death that she no longer felt so frustrated by it. Gilly was ready to go, she had a little extra time before she actually needed to, and spent a few moments just sitting twirling the wand in her hand until it was finally time and she was able to head to the class.

Gilly walked into the greenhouse and took her usual spot in the greenhouse. Her gaze shifted to the professor as the man told them what they would be doing. Dealing with such plants wasn't going to be fun and she put on the protective clothing and headed outside to where the professor was taking them, where the lesson went from bad to worse. The task they were given was beyond gross she could not understand why on earth they were allowed to do that. She could feel herself near vomiting at the sight of it, but she pushed through it. Watching the professor as he showed them what to do, mostly and then let them try it. She worked carelessly, just getting the job done and not even thinking too much about it. There was no point it's not like she would be able to get out of it. She worked quickly and the moment she could say she'd done her part she went back to the greenhouse and thoroughly washed her hands, leaving the classroom entirely to just go take a shower and get the grime and smell off of her. She couldn't believe she had had to do that. Herbology was just gross.
