As the third years entered the room, Summers stood by the door to greet them all, shutting it behind him only once the last few stragglers had caught up. As they took their seats he strode back to his desk at the far end of the classroom and waved his wand toward the board. The inanimate piece of chalk jumped to life and began scrawling up the day's lesson.

Animate to Animate Transfiguration
Rats into Rabbits: Cuniculus

"Alright, let's get started. I'm sure you all remember beginning Animate to Animate Transfiguration last week. Unless you weren't present for whatever reason, in which I expect you made sure to catch up. Unlike last week, there will be no frogs involved. This time, we'll be practicing on rats. Clean rats. Not ones that have been on the street or anything, so don't be too grossed out. They're bred to be pets, not pests." He glanced around the classroom, looking at the girls specifically who typically weren't too happy to come anywhere near what was considered vermin.

"I don't want to waste all lesson talking, so you all need to come up and grab your rats as quickly as possible once I've finished showing you what to do. Make sure you memorise the incantation written on the board. Repeat it after me, Cuniculus!" He said, ensuring they all knew how to properly pronounce it. As soon as they had repeated it, Summers summoned the cage of rats the class would be using and lifted its lid.

"Unfortunately I don't have as many rats to work with as I did frogs. Unless I turn some of you into rats to practice on. Depends on how well you all do. In the meantime, I need you all to pair up with a buddy and attempt to turn one into a rabbit together. Co-operative lessons are always fun. You might even make new friends or something. Who knows. Oh, and another thing. You can practice anywhere in the castle you want. Take a rat and go find somewhere indoors that is relatively quiet to start transfiguring. Just make sure you aren't disrupting other students or classes, or you'll find yourself being the subject of our next lesson." Some of the students looked at him in disbelief, partially over the fact he was letting them roam around the castle for the lesson and partially over his comment about transfiguring them if they misbehaved. If he was allowed, he probably would. Unfortunately that was not the case without their consent.

"I want to see you all having mastered the spell by next week. Now go! Practice! As soon as you've managed the change it into a rabbit, bring it back to my office for grading. See you all next week."
Team up with one of your classmates (or just pretend that you did). You may either role-play practising the spell with your classmate in this classroom, your common room, or an unused classroom, and simply post the link of the rp here; or just pretend that you RP'ed in one of those sections and post it here.

Amoral | Friendly | Slightly Mad Dervish & Bange's Assistant

Mervyn was really starting to regret what he'd agreed to. He'd known taking every elective was going to be difficult, but he hadn't realised it was going to be this difficult. It wasn't like his first year, or even his second year, when the classes had been easy, and it was OK to turn in a half-hearted essay. The work was really starting to matter, now, and Mervyn felt the pressure more than ever before. He sat down next to Leda, feeling sick at the prospect of learning yet more spells. After last week's lesson, he was still kind of scared of accidentally making an animal hybrid, the image of a rabbit/frog burned into his mind for life. He laughed when Professor Summers reassured them about the rats. His grandpa would have gone crazy if he'd had to handle a rat he was terrified of them. Fortunately, Mervyn didn't mind. He paired up with Leda to practise, letting her decide where to go, if anywhere. Mervyn wanted to play with the rat more than he wanted to turn it into a rabbit, but eventually he stopped messing around and actually practised the spell. There were no ugly hybrids created on his behalf that day, thank goodness, though it took him at least a dozen tries before he realised the reason nothing was happening was because he was pronouncing the incantation wrong. He played with the rat-turned-rabbit for a few more minutes before picking it up to take to Professor Summers' office.

[justify]After the recent Quidditch game, Leda still wasn't feeling herself. She'd been hit twice by a bludger and everything just hurt. After talking to Mervyn though she was a little more optimistic about future matches, and she joined her friend for their next lesson with relative ease. Even though they'd both chosen to take on a lot it was much more manageable when they were together. Once they were settled in the class, the Slytherin began to take a few notes, she was getting quite good at that.

Although she wasn't sure about turning a creature into another one, she was happy enough to give it a go. They were magical after all and she didn't think it would hurt the animals to be transfigured. They probably didn't even feel it. Of course she was paired up with the Gryffindor and together they took their rat to work with. For a while, Leda let her friend try and perform the spell on the creature although she was pretty sure he was saying it incorrectly. After the 16th attempt though she started sniggering at him, pretty sure no matter what volume or tone he took he wasn't going to be able to do it with that word. It had way too many n's than Professor Summers had suggested. After waving her own wand at the creature, the pair managed to get it to transform. Once they'd practised the spell a bit more though they called it a day, and returning the beast to their teacher she was happy with their progress.

[justify]The ravenclaw was thoroughly enjoying the semester so far. He was doing a lot to ensure that he was actually taking part in things, and he had put together, what he believed to be a rather good costume for the halloween celebrations. It wasnt odd for him to take part in that, hed done it several times before but he felt this costume was less lazy than the others, hed gone out of his way for it. However, more importantly were the exams that he had upcoming, the classes he was doing currently, and the fact he had to be the best in all of those classes before he could start adding on other things, even if they were little silly events the school held. He was enjoying the semester, the classes and the lesson were good and a little more challenging, the spells a little more complex and just allowing Simon to do and be better than the years prior. Happily the teen was getting ready for the day. Gathering what he would need for the day and figuring out what bits and pieces he needed too. He got ready with plenty of time and left the dorm for the first class of the day.

Simon stepped into the transfiguration classroom, pretty eager to get started on whatever they would do in this semester. The teen had been enjoying the classes he had this semester, they weren't as dull as the classes in second year and there was a lot of variation. The ravenclaw looked up at the professor as the man got started, Simon had his notes out and began writing down what was being said by the professor about the Animate to animate. It had been interesting to turn the frogs into grasshoppers, but it would be more intersting to try on larger creatures like a bunny. Simon repeated the incantion with the rest of the class. He was pretty happy when he was sure he had it right, though having to share the creature while practicing would be fun. He would have to get it before them. He just had to. The boy paired up with the person next to him and allowed them to go first, knowing then how difficult it was and how much work he would have to put in to be able to do it better than them. Though eventually they just had to have a back and forth since it was a spell a little more difficult than the one before, though Simon could proudly say he got it before them, and all of his attempts had been better. The class was eventually wrapped up and simon packed up his things and left the room.

The year was already almost halfway and Len had enjoyed most of it. Halloween was almost upon them and Len had picked out the perfect costume for her to wear. It was even a sort of play on her state. Len smiled and decided to go outside when this lesson was over. She needed some time to add flowers to her book. Not that she was falling behind, she just spotted another rare plant growing in the water of Hogwarts. Len grabbed her stuff and walked to the classroom. When she arrived she sat down and waited for the Professor to start the lesson.

Transfiguration was harder for Len, she had to concentrate very hard and Len had to try hard of not thinking about hybrids. Today they were going to turn rats into rabbits. Len always wondered if animals were harmed in the process, but she figured it was a no. She repeated the incantation with the rest of the class so she was sure she got it down. After that she was paired up with someone and then it was their turn to turn a rat into a rabbit. It wasn't that hard if you concentrated and they both had some good attempts. When they had the spell down Len was glad she could leave the classroom. She wanted to go outside.

Gabriella Tillington didn't care an awful lot about Quidditch, but now that Frankie was on the Gryffindor team she felt like she had to support her sister. The match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff at the end of the week had made her a little conflicted. Normally, she would hope for her own house to win, but with Frankie on the opposing team she couldn't help but hope for her victory. She was starting to feel more and more like they were family, the letter she had received from her mother only strengthening that feeling.

Gabriella wasn't thrilled that they would be working with rats during this lesson, though she tried to hide it. She knew rats weren't necessarily dirty animals, and the professor even went out of his way to tell them these were clean, but she still didn't love the idea. So far, she wasn't really loving this semester of transfiguration because they kept having to work with animals. The girl could understand why, but that didn't necessarily make her like it any more. She sighed, but repeated the incantation along with the professor. Gabriella paired up with a Ravenclaw boy and they took turns trying to turn the rat into a rabbit, though she went first. It was a little nerve-wracking to try the spell in front of someone like this, but she managed after a few tries. The boy did it a little faster than her, which bothered her a bit. Perhaps she should be practicing more, but it wasn't like she had an unlimited supply of rats lying around to practice on. And the idea of finding one in the castle dungeons to use the spell on was revolting. When the lesson was over, Gabriella packed up her things and left the classroom quietly.

french | clumsy | regretful

The semester was quickly progressing and Patrick couldn't believe he was already in the third week of his third year and even had a quidditch match at the end of the week. Luckily, all of his classes didn't seem too hard to handle just yet and Patrick was comfortable with where he was at at that point with his study. Halloween was also nearing but Patrick didn't see the whole fuss with it. He did like to have fun, but hadn't had time to organise anything for it yet and the fact that he still had quite a lot of time at Hogwarts left was making him less worried about trying to come up with something. And so Patrick figured there was no point. He had other things to worry about and did not feel like coming up with a last minute costume when he had plenty other opportunities.

As Patrick saw the next class on his timetable was Transfiguration he promptly headed for class, excited to see what they would be learning about during the lesson. He entered the classroom and sat in his usual seat in the room before waiting patiently for the lesson to begin. When it did, Patrick listened as the professor announced that they would be turning rats into rabbits. He said the incantation with the class and was more than ready to try it. When instructed, Patrick made his way to the front of the room and took a rat for himself. People were pairing up but Patrick much preferred to do it on his own as he could take his time trying to get it. He made his way to the corner of the room with the rat and his wand and held it in his palm carefully as he tapped his wand three times on it. "Cuniculus." he said. It took several tries but eventually it transfigured and Patrick beamed. At the end of the lesson he smiled at the professor as he left the classroom, heading straight to his next class.

Frankie hoped that they would be having another practical transfiguration lesson today. It was the only thing that made the subject bearable in her opinion – Professor Summers seemed really devoted to theory, and Frankie just wasn't very good at paying attention to, or caring about, that kind of stuff. Thankfully, it seemed that today would be carried out in much the same way as last week and she repeated the incantation enthusiastically along with the rest of the class before going up to the front of the class to grab a rat. Frankie didn't mind the creatures and she stroked the head of the one she had grabbed before choosing to pair up with Lenore. It was way more fun to practise with someone else, Frankie soon decided. It was fun to talk to Len as they each took their turns to transfigure the rat, although Frankie didn't know if she was doing her best to actually complete the spell properly. Eventually, they had managed to produce a rabbit and Frankie volunteered to be the one to take it to the professor to be graded. Len looked like she wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.

Mysticism | Arrogant | A Good Witch or a Bad Witch?

As Lucinda set herself down at desk near the back of the classroom, she wondered whether today's Transfiguration lesson would be more theoretical or practical. Either was fine with her – the theory tended to be interesting most of the time, but the practical lessons were clearly more fun to take part in. The question was soon answered for her by the professor, and even though Lucinda wasn't too thrilled to be working with rats she wasn't going to kick up a fuss about it – she would rather have kicked up a fuss about the fact that they were supposed to partner up for this lesson. Lucinda first shot the professor a death glare, and then a glare at anyone who even so much as looked in her direction as she shouldered her way up to the front to get her own rat. She was going to do this by herself; having to take turns with someone else would only slow down her own practise. Lucinda grabbed her bag and left the classroom before someone could stop her, keeping a firm grip on the rat all the while. She was going to go and practice in her dorm – there were a few girls in there that she wouldn't mind setting a rat loose on.
