Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

Upon entry to the classroom, many of the students may have noticed the presence of a somewhat colourful jar atop the professors desk, its contents seeming to move about in a rainbow mess. A handful tried to get a closer look, but were waved away by the professor and told to wait for the lesson to begin before they'd find out what was inside.

"Sit down everyone," began Professor Summers, grinning. "Today we are going to work on our first transfiguration spell of this year." He continued, walking in front of the class. He could see excitement on students' faces at doing some practical work. He himself was excited, as he preferred spellcasting over writing constantly. As a student, using magic in class would always give him a rush, as if nothing could stop him now that he could turn turtles into tortoises.

"In the last lesson we learned about Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration, and that's what we are going to do today." He said and held up the colourful jar from the table.

"Beetles," He announced, raising the jar just above his chest so everyone could see the small insects scittering around inside. "We are going to transfigure them into coat buttons. Small objects. especially insects, are easiest to transfigure, because you don't have as much detail to worry about," He said, handing the jar to a girl in the front row. "Keep one beetle with you, and pass out the others among the rest."

The students took a long time to choose a beetle of their choice. There was quite the variety, colours, spots, sizes, so he couldn't blame them. They had a whole lesson ahead. Finally, after the last student had selected a beetle, Aeon continued the lesson. "Hold onto your beetles, don't let them escape; be gentle though, we don't want them dead. Really, please try not to kill them. Now, you will find that in transfiguration that it is easier to change items that are closer in size to each other. Matchsticks and needles are of the same size, shape, and weight. Essentially all you had to transfigure was the material and color. The same with beetles. They are small and similar in size to buttons, so all you need to do is to change the shape. Remember, that doesn't mean that it's easy. You still need the proper wand movement and concentration. Now," Professor Summers flourished his wand, "as I told you in the last lesson, Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration uses the 'three tap' method of wand waving. Make sure you use that or the spell will not work properly. Visualize the outcome."

"The incantation for this transfiguration is 'Praepilatus'. repeat it after me."
Aeon said, and waited until they were finished. "Now, first you must picture a button in your mind. I want all of you to picture a button with the same coloring as your beetle. That will make it a lot easier for you. As I said, we're mostly focusing on the shape. Once you're comfortable, you may attempt to alter other features. After that raise your wand, visualize the beetle turning into the button. When you are ready, tap the beetle three times with your wand, and swish the wand through the air, saying the incantation. Praepilatus!"

At his words, the chunky beetle on his desk flattened into a round, glittering button with a similar blue sheen that the beetles carapace had.

"Now perform the transfiguration on your beetle. I want to see buttons good enough to line my coat with." He beamed. "If you have any problems, feel free to ask. And don't worry - this won't hurt the beetles."
Homework: RP transfiguring beetles into buttons. Feel free to rp myself helping you.

Sapphire was proud of herself- she thought she'd done fairly well in her goal to make her attendance a bit better than last year. She came in and took a seat near the front, ready for the class to begin. Transfiguration had always been one of her more interesting subjects, and this year it seemed more promising than the last.

She soon came to regret the decision to sit in the front, however, when she was handed a large jar of beetles and asked to keep one. She looked into it, a bit astounded that there could even be that many different colored beetles. She was a bit lost in the swirling colors for a moment, but she reached in after a bit and grabbed a beetle with a dark blue shell, the edge of it trimmed in black. She slipped him into her pocket before getting up and passing it around. She was sure to smile and even winked playfully to her friends.

Well, at least she got to see everyone in class. She returned after the last kid had grabbed a beetle, handing the jar back to the Professor and sitting down. She listened to his instructions before taking the beetle from her pocket. She envisioned her button, set him down, and quickly tapping him three times with the wand, she spoke. "Praepilatus."

Sapphire watched with delight as the beetle transformed into a rather pretty dark blue button, though the black was a bit more prominent around the edges. She raised her hand and smiled at the Professor when he came over, offering him her button. He smiled at her and took the button, before asking if she had any questions about today's lesson.

Sapph could actually think of a few, more about the theory of transfiguration in general, and managed to catch the Professor in a short conversation about it. He was called away after a few moments to help another student. Sapph took out her notebook and took notes on various things running through her mind until class ended.

Onyx came in after his sister, and smiled brightly. He sat down next to her, eager to show off for today's lesson. He grinned as she offered him the beetles, picking out one the same sapphire shade as her eyes. He watched as she went about the room, glad to see her trying to be more involved. Kira had told him how reluctant Sapphire had been last year, and it was good to see her trying. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders as she sat back down, squeezing and flashing her an encouraging grin.

The instructions for this class were rather simple, but he listened intently anyway. He removed his arm from Sapphire's shoulders and cleared his throat. He tapped his wand three times on the blue beetle and spoke clearly. "Praepilatus." He grinned widely as the beetle turned into a beautiful blue button. "Look Sapphy, look!" He showed her, eager for her approval.

The teacher came by then and he handed over his button with Sapphire's. She struck a conversation with the bloke and Onyx listened to the two, glad to see Sapphire so interested. Once the Professor had left, he watched Sapphire, curious to see how her mind worked. Her notes were a bit jumbled and didn't make sense to him, but he supposed with time he would come to understand her system.

Once class was over he followed her out, offering to grab some food so they could eat outside.

Jacob couldn't have been more excited at the prospect of actually doing some transfiguration practice today. He made sure his wand was at the top of his desk as he got ready to take notes, knowing that Professor Summers would do some form of lecture. There was always a lecture. But it didn't last overly long and before he knew it, Jacob was grabbing the box of beetles from the girl in front of him and peering inside. They were all there, fumbling on top of each other in their effort to escape. There were just so many, but finally Jacob settled on a large black one. He lifted it out, wiggling it in the person's face who was grabbing the box next. Jacob settled the bug on his hand, letting the beetle walk between both of his hands. It was fun to watch him go, and Jacob took a moment to look back up as the professor continued.

"Praepilatus" Jacob repeated along with the professor, happy that they were getting some practice because that was not a word that rolled off the tongue. Nodding as the professor indicated that their goal was just the shape, Jacob was glad that he'd chosen a plain, black beetle. Some of his classmates were going to have a harder task ahead than he would.

Soon they were set to their task, and Jacob gently placed the beetle on his desk, eager to make him into a button. "Praepilatus" he exclaimed, after tapping the beetle three times. It took him a few more tries and for the professor to come over and correct his pronunciation, but fairly quickly, quicker than he'd expected for sure, Jacob had a black button where his beetle had once crawled. Jacob was pretty pleased with himself.

As class let out a little later, Jacob was still happy at how quickly he'd been able to accomplish that.

The first week back at the castle hadn't been busy for Sam, which wasn't something she liked much but it did give her more time for organisation and some time to herself. She knew that eventually and quickly enough the term would get busier with more homework and activities so she wasn't worried or picky about not having enough to do. She packed her bags for her next class, which was Transfiguration, before she made her way to the classroom and took a seat as she entered. They were going to work on their first spell of the year and Sam hoped it would be something a little more challenging than simply turning a match into a needle. Since she was a second year, she had set some expectations for classes and she really wanted to reach those expectations. She straightened in her seat when Professor Summers mentioned beetles. Ah yes, finally! Her heart sank ever slightly as they were turning beetles into coat buttons, but as long as this was a bit more challenging than last year's work she was cool with it. She knew she had to be patient to try other stuff.

She took a beetle and passed on the rest, before paying close attention to what the professor was saying. The wand movement and incantation didn't seem hard, though the part Sam needed to get completely right was the imagination. She had never had a very active imagination, although she did try sometimes. She closed her eyes and imagined a purple button, then she opened her eyes and raised her wand as instructed. She visualised the exact shape of her beetle in button form, and when she felt that she was ready, she tapped the beetle three times with her wand and swished it in the air while clearly saying, "Praepilatus!" To her surprise (and utmost delight) she watched as the beetle turned into a...somewhat purple button. She did, however, get the exact shape right, what she was aiming for. She tried not to be too much of a perfectionist over the colour. Sam showed it to the professor and when time was up, she packed away her things and thanked Professor Summers before she left.

Knowing how much more work she was going to have this semester, the young gryffindor had been working to make more time for it. It was not that fun, but she had to. It meant, the occasional skipped meal, but she was sure it would all be fine. She would just end up eating more on other days, accounting for it. Maze was at that point getting ready for the next day ahead. There wasn’t much to do before class, she didn’t have much to do. Though there wasn’t too much more work that she had to do, Maze wanted to keep her grades up consistent to make her parents proud, so she knew she would increasingly need to allocate more of her time to it. No matter how unfun it was. The gryffindor was putting her notes and books into her bag, grabbing the ink and quill that she’d been using the night before on some homework and placing those into her bag too. She took her wand and put that in where it was easily grabbable and then she knew she had everything. She of course made a few last checks to be sure she had everything, and when she was certain she did, she left for the class.

Mazikeen was hopeful that in this lesson of transfiguration they would spend some time doing a spell, the professor had talked enough as it was during the first lesson, so she had high hoped for this one, where they would hopefully and at long last actually do a spell. She looked at the beetles as the professor showed them to them. She listened as the professor gave them instructions and a long winded lecture before teaching them the motion and the spell and allowing them to then eventually get started. She repeated the incantation over and over, just to be sure she had it right and brought a beetle to her table. She could do this. She imagined it becoming a button, wiping her head of any thought that it was a bug and then with a deep breath, tapped it three times and said, "Praepilatus," the bug didn't change at all. She groaned and tried it over and over. She kept trying it and only within the last few moments of the class did she actually manage to get it to become a button. She wasn't particularly happy with herself in this instance but it was still good that she'd managed it. She'd have time to get better.

Anastasie entered the Transfiguration classroom and took her usual seat near the front of the room. She was looking forward to what they would be learning about during the year and made sure to bring her wand and writing equipment to be prepared for either a lecture or a practical lesson. She wrote notes as the professor spoke about the spell they would be practicing. It didn't seem too hard and Ana was confident that she could turn a beetle into a button in no time. When instructed, Ana made her way to the front of the classroom and collected a random beetle before making her way back to her desk. She tapped her wand three times on it before saying the incantation. "Praepilatus." she said. It took a few tries but eventually her black and white beetle had turned into a black and white button and Ana beamed at this. She showed the professor before heading out of the classroom and making her way to her next class.
