Summers sat on the edge of his desk as he waited for the first years to enter and gestured for them to take their seats once they did. As soon as everyone was ready, he did a quick roll call before flicking his wand toward the blackboard that hung along the back of the room. The inanimate piece of chalk sprang to life and wrote up a short, simple sentence.

Transfiguration and the Ministry of Magic

"Let's get started. Now, Transfiguration is a powerful branch of magic, as I'm sure you've all figured out by now. It's complex, but vast in it's capabilities, which is what makes it dangerous. Some people choose to follow darker paths and use Transfiguration as a weapon. As such, the Ministry of Magic has rules and punishments in place that center around this subject and its misuse. Using transfiguration on another human, or even an animal, being for the purposes of harming them or simply your own entertainment will incur these punishments." Summers paused, casting a glance across the first years present and ensuring they were paying attention. They needed to understand that Transfiguration was not like your usual jinxes and hexes. There were consequences for using it against others.

As soon as he was certain everyone was listening, he continued. "This doesn't stop at just using Transfiguration on other people. Using it on yourself has it's own laws as well. As you saw last lesson, I am capable of changing into a canine at will. The few people who have this ability are known as animagi, witches and wizards who have mastered Transfiguration to the point of altering their physical selves into an intelligent creature that most represents them. Animagus must be registered with the Ministry of Magic, with the individuals forms and markings so that they can be identified."

Stopping to make sure everyone was still following, Aeon noticed a raised hand. "Yeah?"

"Are there even rules for Inanimate to Inanimate Transfiguration?" Came a voice. It was the same question he got each and every year, almost as if that same student had been retaking the class over and over.

"Mhm. Even for that, as odd as it sounds."

"But how could that be used wrongly, professor?"

"Even inanimate objects can be dangerous. Most weapons are inanimate objects. There are also some specific objects that are classed as "muggle artefacts" - things created by non-magical people that are a specific invention of theirs, meaning that if we would like them, we have to obtain them the non-magical way rather than by simply waving a wand and having it without any effort given. This muggle-classification is the reason flying carpets are outlawed in most countries, but broomsticks are not. At the end of the day, there are numerous ways to abuse Transfiguration and each of its branches, which we'll be covering more in-depth in future lessons. Unfortunately, that's all we really have time for today. If you're interested, you can read up on more about it in the library. Class dismissed!"Transfiguration,1,2

Audra arrived early to Transfiguration class. The last lesson intrigued her and she was eager to sit near the front so she didn't miss anything. She got out her items needed for note-taking and began as soon as the professor had words on the chalkboard. Audra wasn't as interested at first in the lesson because no magic was really involved but as the lesson went on she realized that there were laws in this world too. It made sense but she wanted to know more since she was not familiar with this new world at all.

Towards the end of the class, Audra discovered she had a question and though she was nervous to speak in front of many students she still did not know, her curiosity took over, "Are there even rules for Inanimate to Inanimate Transfiguration?" Her eyebrows furrowed as she prepared for an answer.

He claimed that there were but she couldn't understand why, "But how could that be used wrongly, professor?" She thought hard about what he explained to the class and after he was done, she took notes on that as well. He suggested that they take up a book in the library and Audra considered doing just that after her classes and homework were done. She was always in the mood to learn! Audra got up from her seat and thanked the professor for an interesting lecture then walked out of the classroom.

Alice was starting to get settled in at Hogwarts. It was such a nice place with so many nice people! The young Hufflepuff was having a great time so far. She had made friends in almost all the houses. Well, really all of them if she counted Elijah. She did, but she wasn't sure if he agreed she was his friend. It was also nice to see her sisters more again, though they all had their own groups of friends.

Alice had been warned by Rose that Transfiguration was a little difficult, so she hoped she was prepared for this lesson as she walked in. She took her seat next to Audra. it soon became clear that this lesson was a theoretical one, and that Alice should be taking notes. Quickly, she started writing, noting down that the Ministry of Magic has rules and punishment in place around misuse of Transfiguration. It made sense to her, and she kept going with her notes. She also wrote down that using transfiguration on yourself had laws too, like the way the professor was able to turn into a dog and back. As she finished up her notes, the girl next to her asked a question and then a follow up question. The professor's answer was a little complex, but she did understand it. When the lesson was over, she packed up her things and left the classroom with her classmates.

Optimistic - Blunt - Cheerful - Artistic

Ava was quieter than usual today. She came into class, sitting down near the back. She wasn't feeling nearly as outgoing as she usually did. Between accidentally knocking Zephyr over and her Papa yelling at her, Ava was actually doubting herself. Was she too much? She had only meant well, but that didn't mean much.

She listened quietly to the Professor's lecture, making sure to take notes. She left class as silently as she had entered.
