House/Year: Slytherin 2nd Year
Lessons Missed: One

Sam was more than ready for the year ahead, she had organised everything and feeling refreshed and rested from the holidays, she couldn't wait to begin her second year at Hogwarts. Last year had gone really well and she wanted to keep impressing her father and teachers, with everything new she learned. Now that she knew Hogwarts a little better, it was her chance to improve her magical skills without having to worry where everything was. Sam liked to think she was a quick learner and had inherited it from her late mother. That, and her great time management. The Slytherin checked her timetable and she saw that she had Herbology, so she packed all of her necessary books for the class and promptly arrived to her lesson. She took a seat and laid everything out in front of her as the professor began, Sam having already suspected this would be a lecture. Most classes were like it, anyway, and the blonde loved lectures. It was the best way to learn, in her opinion. No one could convince her otherwise. Either that, or first week lessons were introductory ones. Sometimes even revision, she realised, as she thought of Potions. Professor Carter soon began and Sam wrinkled her nose a little when an image appeared on the board. Mandrakes? Not that Sam liked to judge plants or whatever, but man, these were so unattractive, poor things. And feisty, apparently. She sighed, but took notes whenever necessary. When the professor dismissed them the girl packed up and made her way out of the classroom, unsure as to how she was feeling towards next lesson.

[justify]Name: Norton Gillespie
House/Year: Slytherin 4th Year
Lessons Missed: 1&2

Norton was happy, of course he was. It was the beginning of another year of learning, of fun, of friend and everything else. He was so excited about the prospect of what this year would bring him. What new adventures would he venture upon. Where would the days take him. Of course, he also had classes to worry about, well, not so much worry but he knew now that soon he would be doing really important exams and maybe it was time to apply himself a little more in said classes. That was easier said than done in his case. Norton was excitable and easily distracted. He only managed to focus in astronomy, even then it was mostly just because he loved it. Astronomy was his favourite subject, though he did love all of them a lot, astronomy was the one he found easiest to focus in because of how much he loved it. The boy was getting ready for the day, practically bouncing on the walls getting himself together to face the day. Putting books, notes, his wand into his bag. Making sure he had all he would need for likely the second easiest week of the semester. The last one was always easiest. And with that thought, he made sure he had everything and went to class.

Norton had always enjoyed herbology, the feeling of dirt in his nails, learning about plants, everything about magic was pretty incredible to him, but this was even more so. Just a different thing, something he could've never expected. He sat down in the herbology green house and looked to the professor as the man got started. Norton was disappointed at the idea that the next two years would be hard, but additionally that the professor they'd had for four years wouldn't be the one to continue with them after this year. The teen knew that this was coming, there were dozens of other professors that he didn't know about or had that he would have to have at some point. However, he just focused on what the man at the front was saying. They'd be focusing on the hospital, st Mungoes that was interesting, so doctors really? That must have a lot to do with plants if they were to spend a whole year in a class about plants studying about them. However this first lesson was short and to the point. The teen packed up his things and left the room. Happy that he was able to spend a little time preparing for the future interesting lessons of this class.

Lesson 2
Norton was enjoying the new semester, it certainly seemed they were at a turning point in what they were learning, it seemed to be better now. There was perhaps a little less theory and a few more spells but that was all Norton needed for his excitement over it all to increase ten fold. He loved all aspects of magic, all the classes but none more so than any of the ones with magic in them. That was where he usually found himself loving them even more. Since they were better, of course. He loved magic, and though his favourite subject above all else was actually astronomy that had very little magic which they did, that was the only exception to his preference of magic over theory. Norton was getting himself ready for the day, he’d gone to the pitch when he’d woken up before he needed to and spent time there, since he had a game coming up and he needed to get some practice in. The teen wasn’t even running late when he got back, but his adrenaline was high, he was bouncing off walls and skipping about. He couldn’t really contain it, all of the practicing and flying just made him really energetic and hyper. It made getting ready a bit of a challenge, but in the end he got everything and left for the class.

Having done the work for the last herbology class, the boy was looking forward to learning a little more about it. Having been raised by muggles did put him at a disadvantage but he was looking forward to what he might learn in the class. As he stepped into the room however, there was putrid smell that kicked his senses, one that was very oddly familiar to him. He knew that smell. It was one he'd only smelled once before in hogwarts and certainly reminded him of a time before school. He looked at the plant as the professor showed it to them, it was one that he was familiar with. They would be working with these plants which would be interesting, and Norton made sure to write down a bit about what the professor was saying. He was looking forward to planting and collecting the puss, though it was obviously dangerous he looked forward to it. It would be good fun. The teen was going to enjoy this semester a lot. When he was able to do things with his hands he was always happiest. With that the lesson was over and the teen was able to pack up and leave the room.

[justify]Name:Mazikeen Roe
House/Year: Gryffindor, 2nd
Lessons Missed: 1&2

Mazikeen had spent a good while at home, rekindling old friendships. She hadn’t so much as left those people behind as much as contact had just been hard. The gryffindor girl was happy to be back, she was silent as others compared what they did, since her appeared mundane. The girl wanted to try and do better this year, make more friends, spend more time with those who were her friends, try new things, but she did also need to keep her grades up. Both her parents had been pleased with her grades and she knew she like that feeling when they were proud of her, and she did want to keep that going. She had to, so it meant between her action plan, she still had to go to classes, she still had to be working hard and doing all she could to pass her classes at a minimum. Speaking of which, the gryffindor finished brushing her hair and then gathering up her books and old notes, in case she’d need them. Maze made sure she had everything for the day before she left for class. She was eager to just get started and felt second year would just have to be better than first. Mazikeen walked into the herbology green house and took her usual spot in the classroom. Her gaze shifted to the professor at the front of the room as he began his lesson. They would be covering mandrakes for the whole semester it seemed. She wasn't sure how unless they were to grow them themselves, but that seemed dangerous? She wrote down the bits and pieces of what the professor was saying about the plants. So it seemed with this that they would spend the entire semester with them. She made a large note she would see telling herself to remember the ear muffs and with that the lesson was brought to an end and she was able to walk out off the class happy with the result.

Lesson 2
Knowing how much more work she was going to have this semester, the young gryffindor had been working to make more time for it. It was not that fun, but she had to. It meant, the occasional skipped meal, but she was sure it would all be fine. She would just end up eating more on other days, accounting for it. Maze was at that point getting ready for the next day ahead. There wasn’t much to do before class, she didn’t have much to do. Though there wasn’t too much more work that she had to do, Maze wanted to keep her grades up consistent to make her parents proud, so she knew she would increasingly need to allocate more of her time to it. No matter how unfun it was. The gryffindor was putting her notes and books into her bag, grabbing the ink and quill that she’d been using the night before on some homework and placing those into her bag too. She took her wand and put that in where it was easily grabbable and then she knew she had everything. She of course made a few last checks to be sure she had everything, and when she was certain she did, she left for the class.

After telling them in the first lesson that they would be doing mandrakes for the entire time, Mazikeen was a little skeptical. She wasn't sure you could do something like that for a whole semester unless they grew them, but as she walked into the greenhouse for the second lesson with her earmuffs in hand she felt like she was definitely about to. The girl took her usual spot in the room and looked towards the professor at the front as the man got started. She had always wanted a proper pet so she was excited about the prospect of this plant being her pet for the entire semester. She took a few notes about how to take of it as the professor told them bits and pieces about how to. She put on her gloves and her work robes, she also placed on the ear muffs. She watched carefully as the professor showed them how to do it, how to carefully grip the plant, how to deal with it, properly. The lesson was handed over to them and she did the same, working carefully and silently. It was something she needed to concentrate on but she managed it fine. The girl made sure that everything was perfect before she left the classroom. She wanted to be good at herbology and she didn't want to kill her pet plant.

[justify]Name:Gilly Gillespie
House/Year: Slytherin, 4th
Lessons Missed: 1&2

Gilly didn’t know why making friends appeared to be so hard, she didn’t have one really. Admittedly she’d done little to rectify the situation. Her attempts at making spells had been interrupted and those who had had clearly had their own issues which Gilly did not want to deal with. Friends were something she needed, their problems was something she could definitely do without. However it didn’t help her much at all, she still lacked friends. The only issue now, was she also had classes to focus on, becoming friend with people would be more difficult, since she had to dedicate some time to the classes. She hadn’t in prior years and wanted to now, but it just meant she had to work twice as hard for it. The girl was getting ready for the day, putting books into her bag, struggling to get a brush through her hair, getting her wand and notes together, struggling to get the brush out of her hair, until she was all ready to leave. At the exact point when she needed to. Gilly made one last check that she had everything and then left, she was willing to work for the better grades she wanted.

Gilly wasn't sure why she had continued with herbology. In her attempts to become better in general while in classes she had slimmed down her options, thinking it would better help her as she attempted to do well in the classes. The girl arrived at herbology with an uncertainty written plainly on her face. She took her usual spot in the room and glanced towards the professor with a light skepticism. The teen was sure that this would be a good lesson, but she wasn't sure she'd enjoy the class as a whole. Certainly she didn't care about the man himself, she had never cared about any of her professors, no less the ones at a magical school. The teen listened as the man talked about the magical hospital she had heard little pieces about. Did it have an A&E section like muggle ones did? She didn't know, she took a few notes of what he was saying, but mostly just sat listening, pleased when the lesson was wrapped up and she was able to leave. There was homework set, but Gilly wasn't too interested, this wasn't the first she'd heard of the place but she didn't know anything about it expect from that, so she didn't want to show that sort of knowledge to the professor.

Lesson 2
Gilly had never been overly studious, neither when she had first joined the school, nor when she had been at muggle school. So much of it had just not interested her, it had just not been something she wanted to do. But she was trying a little more to go to classes, to be involved in things to do with the school, just trying to not have the years drag on. She did also know she needed a job after school, she couldn’t rely on what she’d been good at before school, too much time had passed and too much time would’ve passed with little instruction on the manner to really allow her to continue with it. Gilly was feeling pretty frustrated with the two worlds, largely not knowing where was best for her. Which would benefit her best. What she would do post school, that it just made sense that she would join more in the school, attempt to do more in the school. The teen was getting ready for the day getting her things together and eventually leaving for class. She would try to continue to make the most of this new motivation to do well in school.

After the first lesson and the lack of homework she had done for it, Gilly had honestly thought about ditching the class again. But she didn't. Instead forced herself to go to class, forced herself to arrive on time and sit down. She didn't particularly want to be there, and the strong smell consuming her was of no help whatsoever. The teen's gaze shifted lazily up to the professor at the front of the room as the man got started, showing them the reason for the spell and what they would be covering over the next few weeks, and to say it was gross would be a serious understatement. It was horrid. Truly horrible. The girl frowned at it but listened as the professor described it. Told them what it was and what it did, specifically the puss. She was very pleased when the lecture was short, but knowing the next two classes would still revolve around this thing, she was deeply reconsidering her choices. The teen would go, but she would not enjoy it. Gilly packed up her things quickly and did not glance back as she walked out. There were just some aspects and things about magic she would not get behind.

Lessons Missed: 1

Marcos was eager for what the new semester would hold, after all, he’d been keeping his grades up, not like Flavio or Pia had, but enough that it was good. It was fun. He had to keep working hard in the hope of maybe doing better as the years went on, but for now he was still quite happy with how things were turning out. The boy was getting ready for the day ahead, he was gathering up new and old books for the classes he had the notes he would need to revise and remember what they’d learned before, all the writing utensils that he could and might use. The gryffindor was just sure to have as much of it as possible. The teen was ready way before he needed to. For all that Marcos lacked the ability to pay attention and was easily distracted by things, he had the ability to pack it all up for class quite quickly. Marcos decided to not linger about in the dorm, instead heading out and getting breakfast from the great hall, just something to do as he waited for class. Bored of the fact it took so long. It was a good use of his time, since when he was done it was time to go to class.

Marcos stepped into the herbology greenhouse and took a seat in the room. He glanced towards the professor at the front as the man got started. Telling them what they would be doing during their final year of herbology with him. Something Marcos was surprised by, he didn't pay too much attention to the professors who were not ones he had. The teen focused himself on the subject matter. He didn't know much about the hospital, apart from the fact his sister worked there. She was a healer, he puffed out his chest proud as he even considered this fact. He did write down a few of the things the man was saying about the hospital and nodded along with it too. The homework would fun, he could talk about what Pia talked about. Which maybe didn't have much to do with the hospital itself but he would certainly enjoy writing about it. He was always so proud of his siblings and their achievements, in the same way he knew they were for him, though he knew out of all of them he would achieve the least. but, still, he was as happy as ever. The class was wrapped up and Marcos left the greenhouse excited to get started on the homework.

Derek was very happy that school was back. He didn’t particularly mind classes, and he knew his family had hoped for better things from him, but in Derek’s mind he didn’t need to start really working until he’d picked his electives since they helped decide his path for after school. The young slytherin didn’t know what he wanted to do and had no clue what he might pick because he didn’t know what he wanted to do. There wasn’t anything yet that Derek wanted to do, and there weren’t any subjects that called to him particularly clearly. He would just have to take a few and hope they were broad enough that they would help him do well after school, no matter what he decided to do. Perhaps he should talk to his head of house about that. However, there was still time before he’d pick his classes for the next year so he would do that closer to the time. Derek was just continuing to get ready for the classes he had that day, knowing he’d do a minimal amount of work in them before doing something more fun. But he’d go to them, and as soon as he was ready he left for it. Derek walked into the herbology greenhouse and took his usual seat in the classroom. He looked to the professor as the man told him what they would be doing in that lesson. The work that they would be doing throughout the semester, which to him was the most interesting thing they could be doing for an entire semester. he pulled his notes towards him and began to write down some of the things that the professor was saying about them in what was a brief lecture, but he was still pretty happy with it, and with that the class was brought to an end and they were able to leave. he stuffed all of his work into his bag and left the class.

Lessons Missed: Four

As afraid as she still was of the things they were learning about, Ainsley was immensely proud of herself for last week. As afraid as she had been, the dangerous plants hadn't been as intimidating as she expected, and up close there was something bizarrely fascinating about a plant that could cause so much harm. Ainsley found herself wanting to study them, wondering how someone even could get close enough to something so dangerous to study it properly. She was filled with a strange nervous excitement as she made her way into the greenhouse for this week's lesson, taking her usual spot at the front. She peered at the seemingly normal plant on the professor's desk, wondering what it did. It couldn't be too harmful, if it was right there in front of them, instead of behind some protective barrier. She listened with interest, surprised that such a strange looking plant would be called a Geranium, but she assumed there was some relation she didn't understand. She watched as Professor Welch demonstrated the plant's bite, flinching slightly as it almost bit his hand. She was relieved that it wasn't venomous, but it was still startling, and she didn't think she would particularly enjoy getting bitten by something like that. She was surprised when class finished, it felt almost anticlimactic after all the drama of last week, but she packed up her things and headed out, making her way to the Wild Patch to check on the things she was growing.

Lessons Missed: Five

After the last couple of weeks, Ainsley was only feeling more and more emboldened by Herbology. Her initial fear of the magical plants was fading the more she learned about them and spent time around them, and she was beginning to grow fascinated with the strange flora instead. Making her way down to the greenhouse she was excited to see what they would be covering this week. She listened with interest as Professor Welch explained what they would be doing today. She giggled slightly at his comment about portkeys... by now Ainsley felt as though she had been to every corner of the earth in her classes. It was a little surprising to be going to another place in the country, but Ainsley had never been to Hamilton, and she was excited to see what it was like. She left her robe in the greenhouse and took the portkey with the rest of the class, looking around once they landed. It was strangely relieving to be in an ordinary street, in a town not unlike the one near Ainsley's home. Although she hadn't spent a lot of time in cities in the past, it was still more familiar and friendly than the tombs they had been visiting for Astronomy, and she followed the rest of the class down the street happily, looking around the gardens excitedly as they arrived. Part of Ainsley was actually disappointed that they weren't covering anything dangerous this week, but it was enough of a relief to be surrounded by familiar plants that she didn't really care. Ainsley followed the guide as they went around the gardens, mentally identifying plants she recognised and making notes of ones she didn't. She was a little sad when they had to go back to school, heart suddenly aching for the gardens at home.

Viktor Styx
Member Avatar
Obsessive | Unusual | Starer

[justify]Name: Viktor Styx
House/Year: Ravenclaw 4th Year
Lessons Missed: 1-6

Lesson 1:
Viktor Styx was not too sure about how the year started, with his father being a little on the lost side. Couldn’t tell what he really wanted in life, but Viktor, he was learning what he wanted to do and what he wanted to excel in. The Ravenclaw fourth year got dressed while making sure that his tie neatly rested on his chest, and his hair was a little messy, though it was cut a little shorter than the previous year. Figured that this was better than nothing, so the fourth year walked down from the Ravenclaw dormitories and toward the classroom he was destined to be in for the day. It was not something he dreaded each and every day. Class actually helped him further his own goals. That was what mattered. He took a seat, and readied his stuff.

The semester started with how ty were going to be focusing on St. Mungo’s. It would mostly consist of lectures, which was what Viktor looked forward. Professor Carter went over the hospital and what they did. However, any person that had a magical background. Viktor knew what the hospital was, since his family member, an uncle, was just there over a loss of leg. It was something that he wondered how it happened, but did not care either way. They would be supplying plants for the hospital and the nurses here at the school as well. Viktor wrote down his homework, and left the greenhouses. He was not sure if he looked forward to the semester of Herbology or not.

Lesson 2:
While having four classes in the first semester was a bit of a challenge, Viktor Styx thought that this would be a little faster than normal, but since he gave up Quidditch this year, to make sure that he exceeded in his classes. While hurting someone with a bludger sounded like it would be something he was interested in, it was not practical. Viktor made his way through the corridors after descending from the Ravenclaw dormitories. The fourth year looked around for his seat before finding it. Viktor settled into his seat and got out his equipment to start taking some notes for the lesson ahead. He needed to know everything he could for the upcoming OWLs, which were next year.

Viktor got out his parchment, ink and quill to take some notes. He glanced forward to see that they would be working with a Bubotuber. He was familiar with the plant, mainly from Potions. They were not the most appealing plant to deal with. But, it did make teenagers have better faces. The professor showed them the boils on the plant. They would have to deal more with them in the coming weeks. He did not mind it so much. Viktor packed his notes and left. He did not need to dread about the future classes. Charms was definitely on the worst this semester.

Lesson 3:
It was in the middle of the semester, which meant that exams were fast approaching. The Ravenclaw prepared his bag with his school equipment, including putting his wand into his pocket in his school robes. He had an awful lot of studying to do. The worst class that Viktor did not like was Charms and that was because it was more practical. The rest, Viktor enjoyed more than any other class. Lectures were all that he bothered with his efforts. The other, he put in his bare effort. That was all that he needed. Viktor left his dorm and made his way through the castle and into the classroom. He took his seat where he needed to be, and faced the front. Another day, another set of material to learn.

Viktor glanced up when they were told not to sit down. Too late for that. Viktor stood up and stretched for a moment, before getting his work robes and gloves. He slipped them on and grabbed a pair of goggles. They were going to be cultivating bubotubers. He followed the class out to a patch were there were a ton of Bubotubers out of them. He took handfuls of mooncalf dung and spread it around the plant, careful to dodge the swellings on the plant. He did not want to be sprayed, after all. After he finished, the professor cleaned them off with a spell, and dismissed them. The next lesson, they would have to be drained. What fun. Viktor left the greenhouses, going for a shower just as a precaution.

Lesson 4:
The fourth week always seemed to be the hardest for the young Ravenclaw to keep up with. It spoke on how close the holidays were, and it also spoke on how the exams were coming up. The Ravenclaw was ready for them, of course. Viktor was rarely unprepared for anything. That was why he did his homework and also some reading over what the week would have for him. Viktor prepared his bag for everything that he needed, and got off of his bed. He walked down the dorms, and further into the castle to find his way to his class. Eventually, he made it, and took his seat near the rear, where he always hid. It was natural as to not bring attending to himself. That was the last thing that he ever wanted.

The lesson today started with a brief greeting, and then ordered to get some material. He put on his gloved, a pair of goggled, and an apron. He grabbed a bucket and followed Professor Carter. They would have to squeeze the boils and fill the bottles up. He thought that he had dilated those anyway. He had a handful of bottles and got to work, though frustrated because the damn things kept wiggling. Viktor filled up the first bottle with difficulty, but after he found a rhythm, he managed to fill up all of his bottles. He placed them into the bucket. He carried his to the corner, by the sink. He took off the heavy equipment, and left to get something to eat. It was not a hard lesson at all.

Lesson 5:
This was normally the last week before the study lesson, depending on the professor. Viktor Styx did not mind studying for the last lesson. It was easy, and made things easier. Though, the last lesson in his second year herbology, it was exceptional. If his grandfather was teaching it anyway. That was what he heard many times. Viktor packed his things into his bag and left his dorm, in absolute silence, which was normal. He walked through the Ravenclaw common room, not making eye contact with anyone. He did not need them. No one. He made his way through the castle and into the classroom. He took his seat, and got ready for the lesson ahead. It would not be long since the professors did not really like to waste a lot of time. That was something that he was glad for.

Professor Carter started the lesson with congratulating them on the pus that they collected over the past few lessons. Not too bad. Now, they had to prune Abyssinian Shrivelfigs. This was, once more, for the school nurse. He rolled his eyes at the thought of it. They were doing work for the nurse, when they had two able bodied that could do it themselves. He got his own plant, and went back to his seat. Viktor watched as Professor Carter demonstrated for the fourth years. Viktor started to twist off the dead areas of his own, and fill the bucket. Once he was done, he turned it in for the professor, though dubbing it as a waste of time in the end. And doing work for others. He walked out of the greenhouses, hoping that the class would improve down the line.

Lesson 6:
Finally, the last lesson of the semester. It would not be long until Viktor Styx would be a fifth year and in the OWL year. The class would begin at any point, and the fourth year Ravenclaw remained seated, with his head propped up on his hand, as he waited for the professors to start the lesson, if there would be one. To Viktor’s prediction, he was correct. Not much of a lesson, but more or less a review period. Viktor opened up his notes and started to study on his own, before long, he was finished with his studying.
