Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

As the students filed in, Professor Summers picked up his wand from the desk and waved it toward the board behind him, the small chunk of white chalk at its base coming to life and writing across its surface. He was eager to dive right into the lesson and get it underway.

Gamp's Laws of Elemental Transfiguration: Limitations

"Good morning, third years. For those of you who are new to the school, I am Professor Summers, your Transfiguration instructor until you enter fifth year. For the rest of you, welcome back. Today's lesson is going to be heavy on writing and theory, but its absolutely one of the most important topics about Transfiguration to understand. Just bear with it for today and try to take as many notes as you can." The wizard told them, not liking the fact they were doing theory any more than they did, but this subject was extremely necessary for them to learn. "So, let's get started. Today we'll be looking at limitations within Transfiguration. What can't we do? Well, there's five specific categories: Food, Wealth, Knowledge, Love, and Life. These are known as Gamps' Laws."

Summers got to his feet and walked around the classroom, wand still pointed at the board behind him. "I'm sure by now you're all aware that, while magic makes it seem like we are capable of doing anything, we can't go so far as to bring back the dead. At least, as they used to be. It's possible to foresee death, but reversing it once it has occurred is entirely impossible. A lot of you may have already learned this at a young age, when a beloved pet has died and your parents couldn't simply wave their wand and have it brought back to life. No magic, including that of Transfiguration, is capable of this." He stopped, glancing at the students faces to find some were dismayed, whereas others obviously knew this already. Some people had to learn this the hard way.

"This next one is a bit obvious." Aeon continued, wanting to move on from the last two, less friendly subjects. He couldn't have their thoughts lingering on it for too long, it'd put the class in a low mood. "Knowledge and skills can't be gained by magical means. You can't pluck information from nothing and place it into yourself. There's no way of simply being able to know things you haven't actually learned. Otherwise, you wouldn't have to study." He informed them, leaning back against the edge of his desk as he spoke. It was a bizarre thing to think, but he had to mention it.

"Next on our list may come as a bit of a surprise to some of you, but food is unable to be created. You can summon it if you know where it is, and are able to duplicate existing food, but creating it from nothing is impossible. Your meals every day don't simply appear out of thin air. It's all prepared by the house elves and summoned to your plates." Aeon nodded his head as some of the kids looked shocked. Apparently it was not common knowledge, which was unsurprising given the house elves rarely worked in the open or mingled with the students. "Imitations of food can be conjured, objects that look or smell similar to what you'd expect it to, but lacks any nutritional value. As anything conjured is in a temporary state of being, ingesting conjured food will have no effect on your body. It might stave off the feelings of hunger, but if you consumed only this imitation of food, your body would eventually wither away."

"Another commonly surprising fact of limitation among youth is the inability to create Love. That is, true love. You've all heard of love potions, I'm sure. However, the title is somewhat misleading. What a love potion does is create an intense infatuation, which is much different than genuine love. A person under the effects won't quite act as a normal person would. They'll quite literally bend over backwards to make the person they're infatuated with happy, and they lose the ability to care about anyone else in any great capacity, including themselves. It's false, it's unhealthy, and it's dangerous."

"And lastly, we are unable to gain wealth or quality possessions by magic. Gold is impossible to create without the use of a Philosophers Stone, which alchemizes rather than transfigures, and even then we know very little about it. Like food, you could duplicate galleons fairly easily, however magical systems are in place to detect whether any money used in shops or the like is real, or an imitation, so I wouldn't waste time bothering. We also can't simply lavishly furnish our homes with magic, either. At least, not permanently. If we could do that, we wouldn't have much use for money in the first place. This isn't to say it's impossible to conjure something out of nothing, but the things you do conjure are never permanent - you need something to transfigure to begin with. Sure, you may be powerful enough to keep something around for weeks or months, maybe even years, but not only would it take great skill, it would also eventually fade back into the nothingness it came from. This is why not every wizard lives in a mansion with fine silks or rich mahogany. To sustain the false appearance of wealth is taxing on the average wizard."

Summers took a breath, almost tired of talking. "So. Some of you might think, what can you do? With Transfiguration, we can change what we already have, living or not. As for the rest of its capabilities..that's simply something you'll need to find out as the course progresses, so stay tuned. Before I dismiss you all for the day, I have some homework. Nothing too hard, just your thoughts on Transfiguration and its limitations. Super simple stuff. Class dismissed."Transfiguration,3,1

Mervyn couldn't believe Leda had managed to rope him into taking every single class that year. It was amazing that that was even possible without time-travel, but HNZ had a pretty cool schedule, and there were no clashing classes as far as Mervyn could tell. If there were, he was only going to find out when it was too late. He took his seat in the Transfiguration classroom - a class he was feeling slightly apprehensive toward. Lectures were a painful form of torture to Mervyn, and he knew there were going to be plenty of them in Professor Summers's class. Still, at least the content was interesting - he would much rather have been hearing a lecture on the limitations of Transfiguration than, say, some useless galaxy he was never going to get the chance to travel to anyway. Indeed, a few minutes into the lesson, Mervyn was so fascinated by what Professor Summers was saying that he almost forgot it was a lecture at all. He did wonder what created such limitations - it all seemed a bit conveniently inconvenient - but he doubted anybody had the answer to that. It was magic, after all. After taking as many notes as he could think of, Mervyn packed away his quill and parchment and headed to his next class, resolving to do the homework later that afternoon.

[justify]Leda was glad that Mervyn had decided to take the classes with her, even if they preferred some over the others it was good to have someone to share them with. The Slytherin hadn't really gotten to know too many people outside of their tiny friendship circle, and as the only person in her year group she conversed with, the redhead took a seat beside her favourite brunette. Leda wasn't the smartest student, she knew that, she but she loved stories. She sat in the class, gazing at the Professor as he spoke about the limitations, her mind working in overdrive as she considered the possibilities. Practical work was definitely fun, but it was much more interesting when you got to hear about experiences from someone else, and she could have happily listened to Professor Summers talking all day. When the lesson eventually came to an end she had to prize herself off her desk, and wondered how much Mervyn would hate her if she were to recap to him everything she'd just heard.

As usual, Gabriella had spent the holidays with her father in London. During the summer, it was just the two of them in their apartment. He still kept busy even without classes to teach, but Gabriella was used to being on her own. It was nice to be back at school now, back with people all around her even if she didn't talk to most of them. She had a few friends in her house, though, and her sister was around too. Gabriella looked forward to talking to Frankie again.

It was a little startling to see students from all houses in the classroom. It was part of being a third year, but Gabriella had to get used to it. Transfiguration continued to be a subject she loved. Slowly, she was getting more comfortable with the practical aspect of the lessons, and the lectures were always interesting. Today's lesson appeared to be a lecture, and Gabriella got ready to take notes. She wrote down what was on the board, then started taking notes on Gamp's Laws. She wrote down the five different categories, then proceeded to write down the specifics of each category as the professor told them. None if it was too surprising, but it was still very interesting. The one that surprised her a bit was food, and it was puzzling to her that it couldn't be created but could be duplicated. The same with gold. She wrote down a note to herself to look into this more, as she was eager to see if she could find some sort of explanation for this phenomenon. When the lesson was over, she packed up her things and left the classroom.

Len her holiday had been amazing, Chante came over for a sleepover and it had been completely magical. They had done so many things that Len finally felt like she was normal and actually belonged somewhere. The time went by so quickly that Len forgot that she was a third year now. She had electives and new things to learn in her other subjects. She did drop some subjects, she liked freedom and the lessons tired her out. Len had made some friends in her house and she hoped that she could bond with them more over this year.

Len would now have lessons with all other house, something she wasn't very fond off. It meant more people and she didn't like the look some Slytherins and Ravenclaws had on their faces. Len walked into the classroom and waited for the Professor to start talking. It was a big lecture and Len tried to keep up with writing everything. Although he hand started to hurt in the end she was making sure she wasn't falling behind. She needed the grades, she wanted to make something with her life. Becoming a drama teacher like her dad was nothing like her and her moms job didn't sound very good either. When Len was done she was happy and looked over her notes. They looked good and that made her excited.

After the ordeal in Ancient Runes, Charlie was relieved to be going back to a class she was familiar with, where she hopefully wouldn't be asked to introduce herself yet again. She took her usual seat near the back and got her things ready. Leaning her chin on her hand, Charlie listened as Professor Summers started talking, scratching a few notes idly as she listened. The lesson just seemed to go on and on and on, and Charlie did her best to keep up, but everhy time it seemed like Professor Summers was going to wrap up he had a whole nother rule for them to learn. It was exhausting. Charlie did her best to take notes but it was hard to focus for so long, quill tapping boredly against the parchment when she lost her place in what he was talking about. Finally class was over and she packed her things up, exhausted from such a long lesson.

[justify]Tiberius was not at all disappointed with the Transfiguration syllabus, even though he was familiar with Gamp's Laws already. Finally, he was attending a class more his speed, although he didn't dislike the Professors he'd met so far. He enjoyed a good lecture, and he was happy to be left in peace to take notes at his own speed, especially without being called upon.

Tibby took notes quietly, completely absorbed, his mind rekindled with thoughts of transfiguration experiments he'd like to do with Gamp's Laws in mind. It seemed like there were too many limitations to really have some fun, but he knew that knowing the boundaries in which you could work could actually be more freeing. There was more to learn, of course, as the Ministry had their own laws on what you were allowed to do, aside from what you could do, but he was allowed to dream in the meantime. He packed up his books as the lesson ended, feeling invigorated, and planned to complete his homework over the lunch break.

Mysticism | Arrogant | A Good Witch or a Bad Witch?

Lucinda was less than enthused to walk through the classroom door and find a piece of chalk already scribbling its way to the end of a subject title. People were still coming in the door behind her, couldn't the professor wait even moments before boring them to death with unnecessary explanations of the magic they'd rather be learning? Lucinda had noticed this approach happened a lot with this particular professor, and as she dropped into a free seat she knew that she really wasn't looking forward to today's lesson if theory was all they were going to be covering. She grudgingly took out her writing materials as Professor Summers confirmed the plan for the dull class ahead. Lucinda didn't particularly like the idea of limitations, but it made sense that they existed. Natural limitations were always easier to accept than human-made ones anyway - there was nothing you could do about them; they weren't the result of someone's stupid idea of what was too 'mean'. She took notes in a mostly complete fashion, but it was killing her hand to try and keep up with every single word the professor said. She was sure she had got the gist of it anyway, and when the overabundance of information finally came to an end, Lucinda was sure she had covered all the most important points. It would be enough to complete the homework, anyway, and she scribbled down a quick note for herself before leaving the classroom.

Alexis sat for her first lesson in Transfiguration in her third year. She was excited to be back for another year and could not believe that she was almost halfway through her studies in Hogwarts. She was glad to see familiar faces again for the new semester. She would have plenty of time in her hands with music and anything else. She decided that she would rest from Quidditch for a year or two to see if she could handle the workload of having electives added to her schedule. She took her seat once again as she pulled out her notebook and pen while waiting for the others to file into the room. The class promptly started on the limitations within the subject. With pen poised, Alexis tuned out everybody as she focused on taking down the notes for the class. The lesson was a bit complicated that required her attention all the way. It was just their first day but it was better to get this out already for her and her classmates to do a deeper reading should they not understand something. For the next few minutes, all that could be heard in the classroom was Prof. Summers' voice giving them lecture and the scratching the pens make against the paper. Soon enough, the bell rang dismissing them with a short homework. Stretching her upper limbs, Alexis stuffed her notebook before leaving the classroom to go to the library.

Part-Veela | blunt | competitive

[justify]Simon was ready for his third year at hogwarts, he had plenty of new classes to entertain himself with and classes he could spend the time getting good at. The part-veela was very happy to be back at school, boy did he love school. It was his favourite thing to do, though there were a few things that he knew he would be doing this year that he hadn’t been doing in the last few, mostly getting involved in school related thing that he had abstained away from in the past few years. He didn’t have anything in mind in thinking about this, just that he wanted to win a couple more things, if that was possible. It was something he would at the very least want to try. Simon was just getting ready for the day, organising what he needed for the entire week ahead, which felt natural for the boy to do. There would be little time in other occasions to do that, especially as the work piled up. The boy was doing the last bits having come in from a run and now getting himself together for the day. Eventually having everything he needed and being able to head to class.

Simon walked into the transfiguration classroom and took a seat in the room. He was hoping that they would do something good, but it was the first week back, and that usually meant that he was going to be sitting around listening to what the professor would be teaching them during the semester. The boy took out his books and his notes and got ready for the lesson, which as it turned out would be a lecture. he listened along to what the professor was saying and began to write down bits and pieces from the lecture. it was a long lecture but he had to admit that he had never really thought about the laws that would surround transfiguration. It was kinda crazy that there would be limits, but the ravenclaw had to admit that he knew there would have to be, it would be crazier if there were any. He knew magical people didn't have unlimited power or abilities. The boy continued to get down bit and pieces of what was being said, his hand getting a little sorer as the time went on, and definitely thankful, despite his love of lectures when the thing came to an end. He packed up his things and left the room.

french | clumsy | regretful

Patrick was not sure how his third year would turn out for him. The Hufflepuff was worried about his studies and how he would cope having a lot of subjects, especially that the new subjects were unfamiliar to him and he didn't know how he would use them once he graduated. Nonetheless, Patrick tried to stay positive, despite all of the negative thoughts following him wherever he went. He had a good break and didn't want his negative thoughts to distract him from that. He nervously packed everything he needed for the day into his backpack and left the common room, hoping that the first week of classes would be easy for him and that the workload would not all come at once.

As Patrick entered the transfiguration classroom, he gave a nervous smile to the professor and took his usual seat at the side of the room, isolating himself from the rest of his classmates. He was quite unsure about the professor but hoped that the year would be good nonetheless. The French boy listened as he began the lecture. It was quite a lot to take in and Patrick tried his best to keep up as his hand scribbled along his piece of parchment, writing down as much as he could about the different laws. The professor spoke extremely fast, and by the end of the lesson Patrick didn't know whether or not he really had everything that he needed. With a shrug, Patrick left the classroom and headed straight to the library to read up on it himself.

Transfiguration wasn't one of his favourite classes and on more than one occasion he had considered dropping it. It was the first Transfiguration of the semester so he made his way into the classroom and took his seat. Professor Summers was a cool guy and that was one of the reasons he had decided to power through with the class because he enjoyed learning from him. Grayson took a seat and listened to Professor Summers as he began his lecture and took notes on the limitations of transfiguration. Transfiguration was cool in theory but there was something about the lessons that he just didn't enjoy. Grayson took notes during the whole class and when Professor Summers finished his lecture he packed away his notes and made his way out of the classroom.
