Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

To the first years entering the Transfiguration Classroom for the first time, the room appeared devoid of any authoritive presence. No professor waited to greet them by the door, which had instead been left open with a note telling them to enter and take their seats, nor did any await them at the desk located toward the back of the room when they walked in. Instead, a large husky sat in the center of the room, dressed in what could only be described as robes tailored for a dog, with a cloak fastened around its neck in place of a collar. Its bushy tail idly flicked behind it as it watched the children enter, its eyes showing a little more awareness than the average pet. Once it seemed like everyone was present, the canine got to its feet and leapt toward the professor's desk, it's body shifting in the air to take on a more humanoid form, and its enchanted clothing magically lengthening and twisting to fit his new shape. Professor Summers landed on the edge of his desk, now himself once more. "Transfiguration." He started, looking across the sea of eleven year olds with a bright smile. "Is a very powerful branch of magic capable of changing almost anything from one thing to another, whether it be a quill into a spoon, or a person into a dog. Like you've just seen."

Aeon got to his feet and wandered back to the center of the classroom where he'd originally stood. "Good morning and welcome to Transfiguration. I am Professor Aeon Summers, your teacher for the next few years. I will be providing you with the tools and abilities that are an absolute necessity for each and everyone one of you as capable witches and wizards. The other subjects pale in comparison to the power transfiguration holds. Your only limits here is your imagination. You will learn everything from manipulating, conjuring and even vanishing the very matter that makes up our physical world." Summers stopped to withdraw his wand, whipping it toward the blackboard behind him. Immediately, the inanimate chalk was imbued with magical life and floated up to start scrawling across the board.

Types of Transfiguration
 • Inanimate to Inanimate
 • Inanimate to Animate
 • Animate to Inanimate
 • Animate to Animate
 • Switching
 • Conjuring
 • Vanishing

"Now, some of you may not be familiar with all of the terms written here, so we'll begin the day with some vocabulary. Take notes if you feel you need to, but it's all very easy to remember. Let's start with inanimate. I'm sure everyone knows that inanimate refers to something that isn't mobile, not at all capable of movement. However, it extends beyond that in this context, to mean something that isn't living, for example a rock, or a chair. Buildings, furniture, it's all inanimate. Animate on the other hand, is the opposite. Anything living. You, me, your pet goldfish. Even the grass we walk on. Simple, right?" Summers looked across the rows of faces, hoping they were keeping up. It wasn't a difficult concept.

"Now that we have those key terms out of the way I can explain what the combinations on the board mean. Let me know if you need me to slow down at all. It's all just really exciting stuff, even for me. First of all, we have inanimate to inanimate transfiguration. Simply put, it's changing one thing that isn't living, into another thing that also lacks life. This is easiest to do regarding objects of the same size to begin with, like so." Summers waved his wand once more, transforming a random students seat into a comfortable armchair. Waving his wand again, a vase in the corner of the room became a small teacup. "As you gain more experience, you won't need to worry about retaining the same general size. Inanimate is the best to start off with, as the target does not move and lacks the complexity of living creatures. Which brings us to inanimate to animate."

Another wave of his wand, and the cyan quill sitting in its inkpot on Aeon's desk transformed into a chirping blue bird, its feet coated in black ink. It fluttered its wings a few times before taking flight, circling the room a few times. "As you see here, we are capable of changing something without life into something living. Don't be fooled by it though. The living creature you create lacks a soul and is only alive through you. True life is something we cannot give." As he finished speaking, the bird reverted to a quill and floated slowly back down toward the floor. "That there is simply untransfiguration, something returning to what it once was. But it is indeed possible to turn something such as a bird into a quill through animate to inanimate transfiguration. I'm sure you all know by now that it means turning something alive into something that isn't. Of course you don't kill the targeted creature, but merely halt its life for a short time."

The wizard stepped forward and retrieved the quill from the floor, glancing at the clock overhead as he straightened back up. "And finally, animate to animate changes a living thing into another living thing, such as a guinea pig into a rabbit, or a human into a toad. A favourite among fans of muggle stereotyped witches. Unfortunately, that's all we have time for today. In the following lessons we'll be doing more theory, which I know sucks, and you all want to start learning spells straight away, but the reality of the situation is that you can't. Transfiguration isn't like Charms, or Defense Against the Dark Arts. You don't say a word and hope for the best. You need to understand Transfiguration before you can even begin to perform it - otherwise, you won't accomplish even the most basic spell. Understood? I don't want to hear any groans or complaints. If you don't want to put the effort into the theory, don't bother showing up to my class for the remainder of the year. I hope I've made myself clear. See you guys later." Summers finished, gesturing for them to leave once they were done.Transfiguration,1,1

Audra rushed to throw on her dazzling blue robes, a color she always admired now that she had thought about it. She was nervous but appeared to have a confident glow about her. After she was dressed in her school robes, she trotted down through the Ravenclaw common room out into the rest of the castle. She had taken a tour the first day so she felt that it would be easy to make it to the fifth floor corridor.

As she stepped into the classroom, a smile rose to her face. The sweetest looking dog sat at the center of the room; Audra adored animals. She looked for friendly faces at the front of the room, which wasn't difficult since she had introduced herself to a few of the other Ravenclaw first years and the other house was Hufflepuff. She took a seat next to one of the Hufflepuffs and extended her hand, "I'm Audra, and you are?" Her smile never faded as she had a small chat with her fellow first year student.

The conversation came to a complete stop when the professor turned out to be the dog she was just looking at. Her mouth fell open, this wasn't the type of magic she expected to find in her newfound world. The first sentence or two was blocked out by pure shock but she quickly pulled herself together; Audra strived to know everything she could so she took out a piece of parchment and her quill to take notes on what the professor talked about. She jotted down what was on the board and then focused as the professor explained each type of transfiguration.

Audra felt consistently amazed in that class as he changed object into object and object into animal. Audra did not feel disappointed as he informed them all that they would not perform this magic for a while, it seemed complicated in her mind so she was happy to know that they would study it before attempting it themselves. She certainly did not want to embarrass herself in front of the other students while she was trying to make friends.

At the end of the class, she turned to the Hufflepuff beside her and let out an excited sigh and a smile. She could hardly speak but managed to let out a "I'll see you next time!" before gathering her things and leaving the classroom.

Ava was eager to start classes. After the broom incident, though she didn't regret it, she was eager to please her papa with excellent grades. Ravenclaw was supposed to be the smart house, right? She knew she might have to work for it, but she was determined to make her papa proud. She bounced into class, smiling at Audra as she walked by, and took a seat near the front.

She looked at the dog in the middle of the room and smiled. Was that an Animagus? Her papa had told her about them, but there was no way to tell if it was or if it was just a pretty puppy. She studied it, hoping maybe she might be able to find out before she was told.

She clapped her hands in delight when the dog turned into her Professor, not at all disappointed she had found no tells. She listened closely to his lecture. He seemed passionate about his subject and it made her happy. She didn't like people who had no spark, nothing that made them glow. She took careful notes, deciding that this class was going to need preparation. She might need Paolo to help her study.

She packed her things as class ended and went in search of her friend, hoping he might have a system that would work for the hyperactive girl.

So far, Hogwarts had been exactly as great as Alice had imagined it to be. The castle was beautiful and huge, filled with wonders. The people were friendly, the food was great. All in all, it was a lot of fun so far! All she could hope was for lessons to be the same way. She really looked forward to learning new things about the magical world, magic in particular. Sometimes her mind went to Elijah, the grumpy boy from the train. She hoped he could find some joy in all this too.

The transfiguration classroom was a lot like all the other classrooms she had seen so far, except that it had a dog in the middle of it. It puzzled Alice, but she decided to just wait and see what would happen. It seemed like they would be having this lesson with the Ravenclaws, and Alice looked up as a blonde girl sat next to her and extended a hand. Eager to meet new people, Alice shook her hand. "Hi! I'm Alice." She said happily. They had a small chat, that ground to a halt when the dog suddenly transformed into a man. Alice gasped, then laughed. She knew about animagi, she just hadn't expected this dog to be one. Though it made sense for the transfiguration professor to be. Alice saw that the girl beside her was really startled, and gave her a reassuring smile. Alice took some notes on the different kinds of transfiguration, delighted by the examples the professor provided by transforming various objects in front of them. The lesson was over almost too quickly, and after a dire warning from the professor about putting effort into the theory, Alice put her things away. "See you, Audra!" She said as the Ravenclaw girl left. Hopefully, they would sit together again next time.

Lena entered the classroom silently, and quickly glanced around the room. There were only a couple of students there, but no Professor. Furrowing her eyebrows slightly, the young Ravenclaw slid in an empty seat, quickly unpacking her quill, ink and parchment, and placing her wand neatly next to the items. As she waited for the Professor and other students to arrive, Lena's eyes wandered. She recognised a few Ravenclaws, and nodded slightly towards them, before turning her attention back to the centre, where she suddenly noticed there was a dog sitting there. Her eyes widened, and she wondered if the dog had gotten lost or was going to be used by the Professor to demonstrate Transfiguration. She hoped it wasn't the latter. The kind-hearted girl was nervous about transfiguring animals, and sincerely hoped that it didn't hurt the animals.

When the class was full, Lena got her answer when the dog suddenly transformed into her Professor. She was tempted to smack herself in the forehead for not considering that the dog could have been an Animagus, and quickly busied herself with writing down what the Professor was saying. At the end of the class, Lena neatly packed away her equipment, and exited the classroom with the other students. That was a great lesson!

For some people the classes were the best thing at Hogwarts, that definitely wasn't true for Misty. Misty wasn't very studious and wasn't really sure if she could do the classes at the school. On her schedule today it said Transfiguration and Misty knew that was a hard subject. She had heard from her parents that it was one of the hardest and hoped her friends would like to help her with it.

Their Professor dog hybrid whatever suddenly turned into a Professor which shocked Misty. She had never seen an actual animagus and had only heard of it like it was a myth. It did look awesome and Misty hoped he would show the transformation one more time. Misty wrote everything done she needed to know and hoped it was enough to get through the year. When the class ended Misty grabbed her stuff and left.
