History of Magic Professor: Yrs 1 -4 | Former Puff & Head Girl: Class of 2027 | Ex-St Mungo's Healer

History of Magic,4,1Patricia sat on the edge of the front of her desk she look tentatively at the clock as the last few minutes before her first class arrived. The first few student started to enter The class soon filled and Patricia figured it was now or never. "Good morning class!" she greeted, brightly, and not as shaky as she thought it would be. "For those of you who don't know me, my name is Professor Patricia Styx, but to all of you I am Professor Styx." She grinned at the class.

"Now, I am aware you are fourth years and well versed in what I will expect from you in this class." She said, deciding not to go over the class guideline. "But what I want from you is a gauge of where you are on the curriculum so I can better teach you. All I want from you is a very quick essay; a quick recap of what you learned last year. And if you are new to here, let me know the basics of what you learned in your last school!" Patricia said with a smile, she figured it would be nice to give the class an easy start to the year.

Despite History of Magic not being her strongest subject last year, Geo was still hoping to do better. Her third year had exhausted her and while she wanted to continue to take the subjects that would help her future, she wanted to try and find the joy in them instead, focusing less on stressing herself out over them. This year would be her final year with some of the Professors that had been there since the beginning of her time at Hogwarts, and she was going to miss them when she moved on to the others. Taking a seat in her first class of the year, Geo no longer felt as though she had anyone she needed to stay clear of, but since she was the first student in the room she took a seat near to the window, the light giving her some warm energy that helped her to relax. Listening to Professor Styx, she noted down some of the things they did last year. It really had been interesting to go to many different places in the world, and she wondered whether they'd be doing that again this year. Once the lesson was over, she handed her essay in with a small smile to the Professor, before heading out with her classmates.

Hufflepuff Fourth Year
HoM Lesson 1

Last year we read about the history of the celts and where they originated from, and we looked at their culture through the period of their existence. Throughout the year we also took a number of trips out of the school, including to Stonehenge which has many different theories to its creation, and also the Mayan Ruins, where we were able to take lots of photos. There are three different locations of the Mayan Ruins, including the Round Temple of Mayapan, and the Caracol (AKA the Observatory).

If someone were to have asked Isaac why he'd decided now would be the best time to pick up classes, he would have probably told them it was for the sake of someone else. Truth be told though, he wanted to do something for himself for once, and if that meant pushing himself on to discover things he'd yet to participate in them that's what he planned to do. He was done wasting his time at the school, and didn't want end up graduating with nothing more than a larger collection of fictional books, and so taking himself down from the common room he sat himself in one of his first lessons of the new semester. He wasn't really sure who was in what class, nor of the friendship groups that currently existed, so taking a seat by himself in the corner he got out his equipment. He knew he had a lot to catch up on so it was probably best this way anyway.

As the History of Magic professor asked them to write down what they'd done last year, Isaac knew it was the first of many hurdles he was going to be facing. Since he barely paid attention until now it was a struggle to remember what they learnt, but with a sigh, the fourth year wanted to give it a shot, it wasn't like he had anything to lose. Packing away his belongings, he gave Professor Styx a sheet of parchment which the brief things he could remember from the previous year, before heading back out to the library, a place he would no doubt be spending much of his time in this year.

Kauri was excited to be back to school once more, and find out what kinds of exciting things they would be learning this year. He hadn't always done the best in History of Magic, struggling a little to pay attention to the lectures, but he wanted to get better and learn to be more patient, even if it was a little boring sometimes. Sitting up straight in his seat, Kauri got his things ready to take notes just in case they would be starting off right away with a lecture. He was a little disappointed that it was just an introduction class, after all the work he had done preparing himself very seriously to take very serious notes. An essay was something else serious though, and Kauri wracked his brains, trying to make sure he remembered everything they had done last year as he worked on his essay.

The fact that the lessons started again made Elly excited. She did wanted to let some subjects go, but she just couldn't pick which ones she wanted to let out. History of magic was horrible, but she knew this was the last year she was stuck with Professor Styx. Next year would give her another teacher for the subject. Elly arrived in the classroom and seated herself in the classroom. She grabbed her parchment and quill and waited for a giant part of lecture that would even tire a saint out. It was just an introduction class fortunately and she only had to make an essay about what they learned last year. Which wasn't a lot since they went on so many fieldtrips. When the lesson was done Elly left the classroom and sighed.

The holiday was over and he couldn't be lazy anytime longer. Perry smiled and walked into the History of Magic classroom he sat down and hoped it was a short class. He wasn't ready for a long lecture and somehow he was in luck. The Professor introduced herself once again and started talking about they had learned last year. Which Perry had forgotten about mostly. He just didn't think it was very useful so his brain just deleted it all once he had learned it. When Perry was done he left the classroom thinking about what on earth they had done last year.

Phoebe had expected more to change for her, now that her mother was running for ministry candidate. But so far, she hadn't noticed much about it. It did make sense, not many students were old enough to vote so why would they care about the election? Phoebe just wondered if it would change by the time of the second debate, since the first had been during the holidays. She was quite happy to slip under the radar for this, though. If anyone knew her name, she wanted it to be for her own merit and not because of her mother’s campaign.

She headed into History of Magic, optimistic about this year. She had enjoyed the field trips of the previous year, and wondered what they would learn in their final year with Professor Styx. But this first lesson was just a reflection on the previous year. They had to write down what they had learned in their previous year. Phoebe frowned. Shouldn’t Professor Styx know that? She still did it, but it felt a bit like a waste of time to the Ravenclaw.

Sophie was cautiously optimistic about this upcoming school year. Things had been patched up between her and Elly, even if things were still awkward, and she had Isaac as well. Hopefully, she would be able to write a few good things for the paper. She was already planning to set up the idea of writing about the party with Lennon. Hopefully, she would be allowed to write it as well. She wanted to put the focus on Caro, as she felt like her friend deserved some credit as well. Sophie knew that their next year would be difficult, as she had seen how Amber had stressed about the OWLs, but she also felt like this year would perhaps be fun. Finally, she felt like she had found her place.

History of Magic was a subject with some mixed successes in Sophie’s mind. She had enjoyed most of the field trips last year, but also really liked reading about history. She just sometimes wished they covered other parts of history. But for the most part she didn’t mind the subject. What she did mind, was that this lesson gave them no information. Professor Styx just asked them to reflect on the previous year. Sophie rolled her eyes and quickly noted down what they had learned in the last year. Hopefully, they would actually get some information about the upcoming year during the next lesson.

The holiday had been confusing for April, and if she was honest she was quite glad to be back at Hogwarts. While she had been happy with the new of her dad's engagement to Kyle, she had mixed feelings about everything else that happened during the holidays. October's feelings had been very hurt, and while April thought they had helped to make her feel better, she still wasn't sure what the best course of action was in the end. She hoped her dad would know, but she would still try to be a good friend to her. They were going to be sisters, after all.

History of magic really wasn't April's favorite subject, but in only one year she would have her dad as her teacher for the subject. Professor Styx was also very nice, though. It wasn't her fault the subject was boring. Today's lesson didn't seem very long or boring, which she was happy about. All they had to do was write a recap of what they had done last year. It wasn't that long ago, so it wasn't that difficult. She wrote down a few things she remembered. Then, the lesson was over and she packed her things into her bag and left the classroom cheerfully.

As was usual for the start of the school year, Veronica was excited to get back into her classes. This feeling was particularly helped along by the fact that her first class of the week was History of Magic, and history was one of her most favourite subjects at the school. She always felt like she learned something new and exciting during these lessons, and the topics they covered often led Veronica off into new sections of the school library - a series of rooms she still had yet to completely cover in the three previous years she had attended Hogwarts. After she made her way into the classroom and took a seat next to Phoebe, Veronica began taking her parchment and quills out of her bag in preparation, wondering all the while what they would be learning about in their lessons this year. The anticipation was exciting. But unfortunately, as Professor Styx welcomed them all back, Veronica discovered that they wouldn't yet be learning what the over-arching topic for this year's class would be. It was a little disappointing, but she supposed it would just be a fun surprise during their next lesson. With this in mind, she got to work on her essay eagerly.

Ravenclaw Fourth Year
History of Magic, Lesson Four

During our third year, our overall topic for the course focused on ancient magical cultures, and looked especially at their building sites that played an important part in their magical lives. We started off the course by learning about the history of the Celts, a largely magical race of people who lived in Europe during medieval times. We then moved on to learning about the most well-known of all the stone henges in England, the Stonehenge on the Salisbury Plain, and discussed different theories of how the stones came to be arranged there. There was also a practical portion to this section of the course, as we took a Portkey to England to visit Stonehenge and ground our theoretical learning in the knowledge we could gain from the actual site. We then moved on to studying the ancient magical culture of the Mayans, and focused particularly on their building sites and ruins. This section of the class also involved a practical visit, much the same as we had done at Stonehenge.

As Jessica found her way to the History of Magic classroom for a new year, she found herself lacking any particular strong feelings towards the class. She was no longer scared enough by magic that she was relieved to have a bastion away from it, nor was she so bored with it that she dreaded coming to class. She just felt sort of... numb. Jessica regarded Professor Styx quietly as she outlined the class ahead of them today. A recap of last year - Jessica couldn't really remember what they had learned, to be honest, only that there had been field trips to Stonehenge and the Mayan ruins. She supposed that they had had some lectures about that as well, so she wrote all of that down on her piece of paper to hand in to the professor. It was nice to be done with the lesson with a minimum of effort, Jessica thought as she left the classroom.

It felt strange to be back in a classroom after spending most of her third year in the dorm but Jess needed to get back to normal after a devastating year. The holidays had provided a chance for her to do that with the party she and Leila attended but it had only made things worse at first. Thankfully the two Gryffindors had quickly recovered from their first and what was hopefully their last fight. With everything hopefully behind her Jess made her way into the History of magic classroom. As she sat and listened to the younger Professor Styx she suddenly got the feeling she was going to find the lesson difficult as they were reviewing what they had learned the previous year. Jess leaned over to Leila, "I'm stuck here," Slight panic in her voice. Jess did what she could based on snippets of textbook she'd read and Leila's notes she'd been able to flick through but she barely knew anything. At the end of the lesson Jess put away her notes and made her way out of the classroom.

Jackson made his way into the classroom for another boring History of magic lesson. He did like Professor Styx, a lot more than the other one so that helped get through the dull subject matter. Jackson took his seat in the classroom and turned his attention to the professor who shortly began her class. Jackson listened as she recapped some of the things they had learned the previous year, Jackson could remember some things but a lot of it was buried in a pile of notes back in his dorm so he wouldn't be able to rely on them for their recap. He did his best to sprawl something together so when the lesson came to an end he turned in his review and made his way out of the classroom.

It felt strange to be back at HNZ but the Hufflepuff was glad to be back in familiar surroundings after a year away. His time Koldovstoretz had done little for him other than give him an appreciation for the New Zealand climate. Troy made his way into the classroom for the first lesson back as a HNZ student and History of magic wasn't exactly the greatest start he could have hoped for. Once he sat down and listened to Professor Styx he soon realised he would not be able to engage much in the lesson or complete the assignment. He had not been around the previous year which made the lesson a little awkward for him. He sat back and listened to the woman talk, giving her recap and a little on what was to come. At the end of the lesson Troy picked up his bag and left the classroom.
