Professor Summers stood in the classroom with a smile on his face. The students weren't there yet, so he moved towards the doorway and watched the students approach in the hallway. He stood aside slightly and the first of the students arrived. Once the last student had walked through the door, Aeon closed it and walked to stand in front of his desk. "Ok, well, to get started today, I'd like you to take our your quills." He heard some of the students mumbling under their breath, one of them he could hear say "I thought he said that we were going to be using our wands today." Summers glanced at the girl who had spoken and paused. "Now, take out your wands." He grinned, and a few of the students looked puzzled. He walked over to his desk and grabbed his own quill. "Today we are going to change our quills into spoons. In transfiguration, concentration and imagination are key. If you can't mentally visualise the outcome of your spell, it isn't going to work well. You are altering the very molecules that make up an object, so I'm sure you can see how important it is to concentrate. In most of the transfigurations that we will be doing we will be using the 'three tap' method. For this particular transfiguration, the incantation is Scriopea. Now watch me..." Professor Summers held his wand to his quill, tapped it three times and said "Scriopea". With a soft noise, his quill flipped around and turned into a spoon. He picked up his new spoon and held it up to the class. "This is what you should end up with, though the types of spoons will vary depending on each of you. For instance, this spoon is of platinum, but the first time some students perform this, it's quite literally a little rusty. You may also be wondering, "Professor, how is it important for us to turn a quill into a spoon?". The answer is that it isn't. This will hardly be practical in your day to day life. What is important is learning how these Transfigurations work, and gaining experience through them, no matter how random or mundane the items may be." He smiled at the class. "Now, don't forget, three taps, and 'Scriopea'. I will be walking around as you do this, so if you need any help just raise your hand. At the end of class, line up at the door and I will change your spoons back into your quills." He held up his spoon and with another tap of his wand, it became a quill. "Alright, let's get started!" Note: "Finite" is a counter-spell, not Untransfiguration, and shouldn't be used to reverse any transfigurations.Transfiguration,1,4 |

Sapphire was the last one in class, as usual, but this time she was startled as Professor Summers shut the door behind her. She jumped a bit and turned to look at him with her sapphire eyes wide. With a nervous grin she quickly took a seat and watched as he went to the front of the class. He instructed them to take out their quills. She rolled her eyes a bit but did as she was told. She was really starting to get tired of all these lectures, why teach magic if you- oh. She felt a little sheepish as she pulled her wand from her robes. She listened carefully to the Professor as he continued speaking. Once he had finished, she nodded her head and tried to visualize a spoon. She tapped the quill three times and spoke with a commanding tone. "Scriopea." She waited but nothing happened. She furrowed her brow and tried again. Still nothing. She raised her hand to get the Professor's attention. He came over and she attempted the spell again. Still nothing. She looked up at him, and he gently corrected her pronunciation. She frowned a little bit but tried again anyway with the Professor watching. This time her quill shifted shape and turned into a rusty black spoon. She grinned triumphantly and attempted to high-five the Professor. Class ended shortly after that and Sapphire went on with her day, pleased with herself. |

It was odd to think that the semester was halfway done, which meant that Sam was nearing the end of her first year at Hogwarts. It was crazy. And not to mention that it had been almost two years since her mother passed. She hated to think about it and the fact that she would never be able to share her experience with her ever again. Moreover no one knew about her, and she would rather keep it that way. She rubbed her eyes, all of the catching up she had to do these past couple of weeks with her work had almost been drowning her and she didn't even want to complain in front of older students. With a groan, she dragged her bag off the couch of the common room and headed to Transfiguration, hoping to get some serious learning done, including taking new notes. She took a seat, but when Professor Summers said to take out their quills, Sam mentally face palmed. Wasn't that exactly what she needed to take notes? she thought sarcastically. She felt bad for reacting that way in her mind when he said to take out their wands, and not only that, but they were to transform their quills into spoons. Oh. She smiled a little sheepishly, listening to the professor tell them instructions on how to do it. She repeated the spell to herself over and over until she felt she had said it well enough, then she cleared her throat while pointing her wand at her favoured quill, tapping it three times. "Scriopea," she said clearly, focusing on the quill turning into a platinum spoon. Perfection was always key to success. She beamed when the quill turned into a spoon, it was quite rusty, which Sam was a little disappointed about, but she knew with practice she could get it perfect, without rust. Sam continued to practice until the lesson ended, then she packed up, thanked the professor and headed to the library. |

Gwen packed her bag for Transfiguration that day confident that she would be learning a new spell. She promptly made her way to the class with her classmates and took her usual seat, waiting patiently for the lesson to begin. When the professor told them to get out their quills, Gwen raised her eyebrow as she did so, wondering what it was they were going to be doing and why they weren't also told to take out any parchment. When the professor told them that they were going to be turning their quills into spoons, Gwen beamed, not really caring if her quill was turned into a spoon as she just wanted to learn a new spell. She watched as the professor turned his own quill into a spoon and she couldn't wait to do the same. When instructed she raised her wand and tried to visualise the quill turning into a spoon that was about the same size. "Scriopea." she said, and in no time her quill had changed shape and turned into a silver spoon. She showed this to the professor who changed it back for her and she thanked him before leaving the classroom at the end of the lesson. |
