Professor Kalif Styx
Member Avatar
Patriarch of the Zhefarovich Family, Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Slytherin Head of House, Former Death Eater, Legilimens, Occlumens

Despite the fact that the sun was shining and students may be itching to get outside and enjoy the weather, Professor Styx had the shades drawn and made the room darker. Professor Styx was once more leaning against his desk with his wand in his left hand. He waited for the rest of the fourth years to come in and take a seat, some of them glowering at the spider in the jar, the very same one from the previous lesson, the one that was tortured. The life of this spider was pitiful, and now was going to end abruptly. The doors closed, and with a wave of his wand, he ensured that everything was as dark as everything else could be, and candles in the room gave the classroom an eerie glow. Professor Styx wanted to make sure that the student could see the light of this curse, how something so beautiful could be so devastating.

The former Death Eater took the spider out of the jar, enlarging it to the size of his hand before he froze the spider and put it on his desk. Everyone should be able to see it from their angle. He stated, "We will be seeing the Killing Curse today. This curse is responsible for taking lives of many good and bad wizards and witches, as well as muggles over the years. The curse is so powerful, there is no known counter curse or antidote. Granted, one survived and it is said that it was the result of the love of his mother. This would lead us to believe perhaps that love itself is an antidote for the killing curse but unless you are going to risk your own life out of love to save another, then the curse still claims a victim. Observe." Professor Styx released the freezing charm from the spider.

Pointing his wand at the spider, Professor Styx intoned clearly, "Avada Kedavra." A gorgeous green light burst from his wand, and hit the spider. The spider looked as though it was frozen again, however one would see that the eyes were glazed over with a ghostly, death like look. It remained completely motionless. The spider's life had ended. "The killing curse causes the victim to look like they had died with no known trauma." With a wave of his wand, the spider was reduced back to its original size, and he swept it off of his desk, where it vanished into the air seeing as there would be no use for it to remain around anymore. "Just revise and study for homework. Class dismissed."

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson.

Fifth Year | Ambitious | Charismatic | Calculating | Flirty | Scrivenshaft Shop Assistant | Brotherhood Vice President

The year was progressing at a fast rate, soon it would be over. The stuff with Kauri had been troubling, but he was glad the kid was at least keeping quiet about it. He wished it had gone differently but there wasn't anything he could do about it now. He had to stay focused on school as well. He didn't want his romantic life to be a burden, so perhaps he should take a break for now from dating anyone openly.

As Tristan entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, he couldn't help but wonder why it was always so dark in here. He had a feeling the man was just trying to intimidate everyone even more. The lesson about the cruciatus curse hadn't been easy for everyone, and Tristan had a feeling this one would be worse. Personally, he didn't much care about spiders or how they were used, but it was startling to think of these spells being used on humans. The classroom seemed even darker than usual, and Tristan hoped they wouldn't be taking many notes because it was hard to see. He listened as Professor Styx talked about the killing curse, he seemed to know a lot about it. Then he showed them the curse on the spider and Tristan recoiled slightly. The green light was blinding, and then it was done the spider was just dead. A chill went down his spine. It was just a spider, but something about the way this happened really made him feel uneasy. The way professor Styx swept it off his desk like it was nothing didn't help. When the lesson was over, Tristan left the classroom with a hollow feeling in his chest.

Questioning Everything | Honeydukes Assistant | fifth year

[justify]Jerara had found himself knee deep in many books, as the election of the wizarding world was going on, the boy had begun reading more books about the ministry, it was where he had imagined he might end up working, but in all of his reading he had begun reading about a certain group within New Zealand that held some odd views, though what he was particularly interested by was the fact it said that they believed there were aspects that they weren’t being taught at school. Jerara had come into this often, his reading would lead him to restricted section which he wouldn’t have a good enough reason for entering, so he was often left just trying to find the other bits and pieces of information before he just moved on. The teen was getting himself ready for the day, putting away the books of his last class and beginning to put together everything he would need for the day ahead of him. He had a lot of classes so it always took him a few moments before he was able to find what he needed to but as soon as he did, Jerara left for the first class.

Jerara had been somewhat looking forward to this lesson the most. He hadn't ever seen anything die before. He hadn't witnessed something or someone be killed, but he knew that if they were capable of doing that kind of magic, he wanted to learn about it. The boy took a seat in a room, and definitely more keen for it than others. He knew the spells were wrong, but he liked learning, and these were a fundamental part of it. The dark magic was something they should know about. He looked at the professor and watched as the man took out a spider and killed it with the spell. The glow of the green light taking over the room for a brief moment before disappearing and leaving just a dead spider in the professor's hand. It was instant. He wasn't sure how much he liked that. it was interesting sure, and it was different, sure. But, it was still something that was not particularly nice. And he couldn't help but wonder about the spell and it being cursed upon people. The finality of it. No unknown trauma. The only person to survive survived because of love. There were so many questions that jerara had, but he knew they would never be answered.
