Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

Summers waited comfortably at his desk for the first years to file in for yet another lesson. Unfortunately, they still wouldn't be doing any wandwork just yet. As they each took their seats, he rose from his and started into the day's topic. "Good morning! Great to see you all back. Wands won't be required today, sorry, but we have some more theory to get through before moving on to the exciting stuff." There were a few groans and other disappointed sounds, but the professor simply rolled his eyes. He wanted to get to spellcasting as much as they did.

"We'll try get through this quickly. Your first year is all about introductions and general familiarization, which I'm sure you've found to be the case in other subjects too. While you won't be performing most types of Transfiguration during this year, with the sole focus being Inanimate to Inanimate, you will need to know about what you'll be learning in future to help you prepare for it. Next year you'll be going into Inanimate to Animate, and so on through the list we covered earlier in the year." The wizard gestured toward the board with his wand as he spoke, causing the chalk to come to life, as usual, and write up the list again for those who needed a refresher.

"These are your building blocks. Think of Inanimate to Inanimate transfiguration as the foundation for which the others build upon. That being said, Animate to Animate transfiguration will provide the backbone for nearly every advanced transfiguration spell that you will learn in future years. You must capable of transfiguring animals in general before you can hope to learn to switch, vanish, or conjure them, or even put your hands on human transfiguration." He paused to allow the few stragglers to keep up with their note-taking before he continued on, hands moving animatedly as he spoke. "Of course, human transfiguration, as you should know from lesson one, includes the animagus transformation. An animagus, for those of you who weren't paying attention, is a wizard or witch who can transform into a specific animal at will, though they are rare. This school however, has trained more animagi than any other that I'm aware of. Myself and even the Deputy Headmaster are both animagi, as have been a few other professors who have taught here. Naturally, with this power comes responsibility, and the Ministry has regulations in place to avoid us causing havoc, if we wanted to." He stopped once more and flicked his wand towards the blackboard. The chalk floated away from the list it had already written up and began working on another.
Quote:

Animagi: Requires a license and is heavily regulated. The Ministry has a list of registered animagi, for obvious reasons. Any animagi found to not be on the list faces time in Azkaban prison.

Apparition: A license is required to apparate legally. You will learn to apparate in year six, and not a moment before.

Invisibility: The Ministry has tried time and again to keep restrictions on the use of invisibility cloaks and spells, unfortunately to no avail.

Muggles: The Department of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, also known as Creation of Dangerous Objects Department, attempts to minimize the number of harmful objects created from muggle items. Sometimes they are successful, sometimes not.

Time Travel: This branch is heavily restricted, and for obvious reasons. Very few people ever receive permission to travel back in time.

"And that's all we have for today. Make sure you've taken notes, and I'll see you next lesson!" Transfiguration,1,3

As Zoe was one of the first students to arrive, she took her seat and impatiently waited for the lesson to start. She chatted with a few of her friends for a while until the Professor gestured for everyone to settle down.

When the Professor said that they still would not be doing any practical work Zoe groaned in disappointment. She was really looking forward to using her wand and learning some spells. But she reluctantly understood when he elaborated on First Year being all about theory and foundations. They would not allow eleven- and -twelve-year-olds run rampant and casting spells they had not yet really understood.

So she prepared herself for a boring lecture, trying not to yawn or let her mind wander off elsewhere. Fortunately for her, this lesson like any other required notes to be taken down.

She made note that Inanimate to Inanimate Transfiguration was the foundation for the spells they would become familiar with, and that Animate to Animate was the foundation of the advanced spells. The Professor then went on to explain a few points Zoe already recalled, before she noticed a list a piece of chalk had written on the board.

Zoe copied it down diligently, raising an eyebrow at some of them in agreement or surprise. It was a little disappointing to see that Time Travel was strictly regulated and required special permission. Zoe had hoped to use it to her advantage seeing as no one in her family (apart from some great-great-grandfather or something) used it. She thought it was just a choice, not a rule.

She then snapped out of her thoughts as the lesson was then dismissed. She finished off her notes and packed them away, before skipping out of the classroom.

Sapphire was one of the last into class, as usual. She took a seat near the door and didn't have to wait long for the professor to start talking. It was just theory again today, but she didn't mind. She pulled out a parchment and quill and took careful notes. The class was over faster than she would have expected, so she packed her things and was one of the first ones out the door.

Mazikeen was pleased that despite her fears about what the valentines ball would bring for her they had been put to rest when Athena had shown up. She had been able to spend the time with her rather than by herself which would’ve been a very lonely experience for her. She wasn’t particularly happy that she had a lack of friends but it was proving to be something that was difficult to change. It was why spending the time with someone from her year that she liked had been good, an opportunity to try and make firmer friends than what she had currently. Maze was hopeful that the next few weeks would be a better opportunity for her to make and solidify friendships. Mazikeen thought she was fun, she knew she was fun, but the challenge of a new school, a boarding school was difficult, lots of people had already known others and Maze had been rather alone in it. The Gryffindor was getting ready for the day of classes in front of her, keen to just get them started. After all this year was flying by and she was looking forward to the school break. With that thought Maze checked she had all she would need and left the room.

Mazikeen walked into the transfiguration lesson and was eager to find out what they would be learning about. She assumed they'd be getting another lecture. It seemed there was a lot of theory to cover in transfiguration, it wasn't something that she minded too much but she knew that it would get dull quickly with this class. She took out her books and her notes and began to write down what the professor was saying, since he was already moving with his lecture. She took a few notes of the different things he was saying, but she did find it a little difficult to keep up, and just stumbling over one spelling of a particularly word and she was lost. She didn't think the professor would be too keen on her raising her hand to tell the professor he was going too quickly but she was just trying to make sure she had all the right information written down, the bits she could find out for herself. Eventually as the lecture continued, Maze all but gave up on actually getting down what the professor was saying, so she was pleased when at the end of the lecture behind the man on the board was information that probably would be quite useful to her. She made sure to have that written down before packing up her things and leaving the room.

Making sure he was one of the loudest groans, Jacob Kingsley made his displeasure known. It wasn't that he minded the lectures in this particular class, but it was a little boring to go through another lecture. And it in no way compared to the fun of getting to use his wand. He'd waited all his life to get one, and now that he had it, Jacob wanted to use it again and again and again. He didn't get why the professors always wanted to hold them back!

Jacob listened, disgruntled at the fact that what the professor was saying made perfect sense. He knew that it did deep down, knew that there were reasons that the professor was doing things this way. They did have to learn about Transfiguration before they tried it. As the man continued to discuss the Ministry regulations, Jacob tuned in more. He always liked hearing more about what his father did as the man wasn't always so forthcoming about any of it. Jacob knew there was a lot he couldn't talk about, not about his Unspeakable work and not now that he was Minister. This, what the professor was discussing, wasn't any of that secret stuff and Jacob took down notes, eager to ask his dad ever worked with time travel just to see his reaction.

Packing up as the lesson ended, Jacob wasn't displeased anymore. It had actually ended up being an interesting lesson.

Sam arrived to Transfiguration, her mind already coming up with things they could be talking about. It wasn't easy, though, yet she still tried because she liked to guess, especially if she guessed correctly. She took out her writing equipment automatically, expecting this lesson to be similar to the last or even better. Sam had a habit of setting standards for certain lessons and subjects and she hoped that Transfiguration would not disappoint her by the end of the semester. She heaved a sigh, without meaning to. She wished professors would just get straight to the point. It would reduce so much of the anticipation she felt. There was something impressive about this school and how it was the school where learning how to be animagus was taught the most, if that could be proven correct. Perfect, note taking - what she was great at. As soon as the information on the board appeared, Sam‘s quill was scratching against the parchment; she looked up as often as she needed to and when she was done, the lesson was over. After she had packed up, the blonde thanked Professor Summers and left.

Anastasie was beginning to like Transfiguration. She beamed when the professor told them that they were going to have another lecture and sat down in the seat at the front of the room, taking out her writing equipment so she could write plenty of notes. She listened as the professor told them about being an animagus and what it was and made sure to write down the notes that the professor had on the board. Ana couldn't quite understand why one would want to change into an animal as there was no real significance in being one. After all, humans are more superior than animals and the whole idea of it confused her. At the end of the lesson, Anastasie happily left the classroom and headed to her next class.

After the lecture last lesson, Gwen was hoping her next Transfiguration lesson would be a bit more interesting. The girl packed everything she needed for it into her bag, including her writing equipment just in case and made her way to the Transfiguration classroom. She sighed when the professor told them that they weren't using their wands yet and reluctantly took out the writing equipment that she had packed so she could take some more notes. It was frustrating that Transfiguration required so much theory but she was thankful to get it out of the way nonetheless.

As the professor spoke about being animagus, Gwen sat on the edge of her seat, quite interested in what it would be like to turn into a completely different being. If Gwen could turn into a different animal she would have so many opportunities to explore other places, but all of the restrictions and the amount of time it would take to turn into one seemed really exhausting and if anyone really wanted to do it they would have to make sure that was what they wanted. Gwen copied the notes that was written on the board before leaving the classroom at the end of the lesson, excited for when she would finally be able to use her wand in the class.
