The annual elective fair was and had always been one of Jon's favourite events in the school. He taught the later years of Muggle Studies and knew it was not one of the most popular electives so he was glad for the opportunity to generate interest, optimistic that if he showed his enthusiasm for the Muggle world the current second years would feel inclined to choose his subject and continue with it up until their seventh year. He arrived to the courtyard and set up the fair, ensuring that there were enough tables for the other professors before he began to set up his own table, mindful to keep the other half free so Ryder could set up also. Jon brought a pile of small leaflets with him detailing some of what students could learn in their fifth, sixth, and seventh years, as well as a stack of Muggle teen magazines and then hung a few film posters on the edge of his half of the table in place of a banner. As he waited for the fair to begin, he hoped that the bright colours in the poster would be enough to draw the attention of the second years to the Muggle Studies table, if nothing else did. |

Kennedy had always felt a sense of responsibility when it came to the Electives Fair because she taught the introductory lessons for her subject. But this year, she felt even more pressure because Wren was no longer teaching at the school, so now she was the Divination with the most experience at Hogwarts. Therefore, Kennedy made sure to show up promptly at the fair, and waved hello to Jon as she headed over to her table, bringing out leaflets with Astrology explanations, as well as crystal balls, tarot cards, and a pitcher of tea and tea cups for tea leaf readings. She made sure to leave enough space for the new Divination professor and anything he wanted to bring to the table. Once the table was all set up, Kennedy waited patiently, excited to see if she could potentially sway any second years to her subject which was normally rather unpopular amongst students. Although this year she had more third years than ever enrolled in class so she was hopeful for today's outcome. |

When Patrick heard about the Elective's Fair, he really did not want to go. His sister had gone through it all before and so he thought he knew enough about each of the electives to decide which ones he would do. After all, if he didn't like the subjects he enrolled in he could easily drop them. But something told him that he had no choice but to go and see what it was like. The second year reluctantly left his common room and headed down to the great hall to the electives fair. He entered the great hall to find it set up completely differently than normal with many tables on display for the students. However, Patrick also noticed that he was one of the first there and blushed, almost turning around to head straight back out. But his feet stayed planted on the ground as he looked around at the tables nervously, not knowing where to go first. He quietly walked around, heading towards the muggle studies table first, not looking up at the professor that stood there. His sister had done well in muggle studies and his own mother was a muggle and so he thought that it might be interesting. However, the boy was too shy to ask the many questions in his head and so pretended nervously that he was looking at the magazines on the table. |

My precious child~

Bella didn't really want to go, but she supposed it was part of her duties as a Professor now, rather than a student. She wanted to keep her job, she enjoyed being a part of Arithmancy every day and there was something special about imparting knowledge, as much as she wasn't a fan of children. Luckily, she didn't have to deal with the younger, brattier kids, but the ones that actually wanted to be there which made it much easier. Bella hoped that Sylvia would be there too, as she was the one who would take the younger years, and also so she could deal with the kids, well Bella still was able to make face. The ex-Slytherin slowly put up posters and things to show what Arithmancy was about. Bella believed it was an important part of life, and it was encouraging and informing. If some students were too daft to see that, then that was there problem. Bella leaned at her table, arms folded and one heeled foot across the other. |

As well as gaining a more permanent position within the school, one of the little gems of responsibility that Sylvia had inherited was being asked to participate in a tawdry little electives fair for the second year children. It wasn't something that would have been on her personal list of worthwhile things to do, that was certain, but if she wanted to make a good impression on the headmistress and the other professors - this was the way to do it. Never mind that she would have to deal with an even younger age of children than she was normally subjected to... Sylvia knew she would just have to grin and bear it. Arriving at the designated Arithmancy table, she was pleased to see Bella there already. If she could foist any of the inane questions the children would no doubt end up asking on the other woman, so much the better. Especially if she could do it in a way that wouldn't draw attention to the truth behind her motives. Sylvia took a seat next to Bella and busied herself at her end of the table, arranging the leaflets that their predecessor had stashed in the office from previous years. She was quite glad to have found them really - she wouldn't have wanted to go to so much trouble herself. "Were you having a good morning before all of this?" she asked Bella, smiling pleasantly. "I can't say conning more children into my classroom is going to be the highlight of my day." |

Stella was optimistic about the Electives Fair, as she was about most things. She hadn't really started thinking yet about which electives she wanted to take next year; at the start of the term, it all felt so distant. Of course, what she most wanted to seek out was anything scientific, not that she had any hope of actual science being available at this school, not any more. Still, Astronomy was better this year than it had been the previous year, and that left her feeling hopeful. Upon arriving, Stella paused to look around. There weren't many people there yet, but that was okay. It allowed her more opportunity to ask questions before the professors were completely swamped with students. The first table she approached was Muggle Studies, where she had an important question, though honestly she doubted it would be met with a positive answer. "Hello, Professor," she said, smiling at her Head of House. "Tell me, do you cover any science in Muggle Studies?" |

Hudson walked out into the Courtyard feeling the nice fresh air on his face he smiled briefly. He really did not want to attend this but his Head of House made it known it was mandatory to do so. Walking around he glanced at each of the Professors and went up to his own and listened to a girl ask a question about the class he taught, Muggle Studies. Hudson paused for a moment. He knew this was the last class his parents would have wanted him to take and same with his Aunt and Uncle who now were his parents. He did not know what to do, he wondered if Fleur was taking the class or if she opted out of it. He figured she did but he was curious about muggles, but not in a sense that he wanted to be friendly with them. That would be against the family values. But he wanted to study them and see why they were so hated, his oldest cousin was recently taken out of family because she believes that muggles can be equal to wizards, he wondered what his Professor thought. Hudson was curious and decided to stick nearby and listen to the Professor talk about the class. |

Walking out she realized there were a lot of Professor around that needed to be talked to. She didn't really know what electives she was thinking about taking so she decided to go to the first one with posters that looked interesting. Arithmancy with Professor Bella Matthias. "So what's this all about?" She asked trying to sound polite but also not talk too much, her friends all said she talked way too much. She glanced over the Professor's posters while she waited for some sort of answer from the woman. Tagging: Professor Bella Matthias |

Soon enough a second year approached his table and Jon smiled, ready to answer any questions he was given. The boy seemed more interested in inspecting the stack of magazines rather than asking questions however and Jon was happy to let him be for the moment. He instead turned his attention to a different second year that approached. It was one of the Ravenclaws, and this caused Jon to smile more knowing at least one of the students in his house was interested in the subject he taught. "Hello." He greeted in return, smiling back at her. Thankfully Jon knew enough about the third and fourth year curriculum to be able to answer her question. He memorized it purely for the sake of answering questions during the electives fair. "I believe in third year muggle studies you learn about the science of electricity. I am not sure if you consider this to be science, but in fourth year you also begin to learn about different muggle technologies, like the telephone and different kinds of transport." He paused for a moment, then picked up one of the flyers he had brought denoting the different topics covered in the later years of Muggle Studies, holding it out to her. "In the later years, there are less science based topics, but in fifth year you do learn how muggle films are made and you see the inside of a video camera. In sixth year you also learn about video games where you get to see a game console for yourself." He noticed that another Ravenclaw had approached the table, and continued to smile wide as he spoke. "I don't know if that is what you're looking for, but I do think you would find the subject interesting." Most students who did take Muggle Studies found it interesting regardless of why they initially chose the subject as an elective, at least to Jon's knowledge. It seemed like a reasonable assumption for him to think this girl would find Muggle studies interesting outside of the topics that related to science. |

Kahurangi always looked forward to the Electives Fair. Although she had gotten used to her position teaching teenagers she still had a soft spot for explaining things to younger children as she had while she was training, and seeing their fascination when she told them about all the things they could accomplish with runes was always delightful. She took her usual table at the fair and set up with a few different kinds of runes and a couple of amulets displayed across the table, ready to show off to the curious children, and sat down with a smile, waiting to be approached. |

As Sylvia noticed a student heading towards the Arithmancy table she felt a brief flicker of annoyance cross her face before she smoothed it away. Perhaps the girl was only going to look at the flyers, or even better - avoid eye contact entirely. Well, Sylvia thought, perhaps that was a little callous. This girl might have an intelligent, thought-provoking question, and she reluctantly readied herself for either situation. Once the girl had come closer, the moment she opened her mouth to speak was both unfortunate and yet extremely gratifying for Sylvia. The question was exactly the sort of vague interest she had feared, it was true, but - the girl had very clearly directed it at Bella. Leaning back slightly in her chair, Sylvia smiled to herself. How fortunate it was that she wasn't the only Arithmancy professor taking part in this joyous occasion to communicate with the second-years. She waited for the other professor's response in silence. |

Patrick did not understand some of what the magazines were saying but he continued to pretend to be interested in them nonetheless, especially as other people came up and started asking the professor some questions. Patrick slightly regretted not saying anything sooner as the professor definitely seemed busy now. Eventually the boy mustered up the courage to say something. "Cooking..." he muttered, trying to find a way to word his question. "What cooking... is cooking... taught?" Patrick hoped the professor understood what he was saying. He knew there were special equipment that muggles used whilst cooking and wanted to know if they were going to be taught how to use them or how to make any special muggle recipes. |

The fact that the electives fair was compulsory had no effect on Lucinda whatsoever. She already knew exactly what she wanted to choose when the time came, having been frustrated about the subject in question ever since she had learned it was being taught in the school - and that she wasn't allowed to take it yet. She still thought that had been a stupid decision by whoever had dreamed it up, but at least the situation gave her a focused direction for her involvement in the fair today. There weren't too many students around yet, Lucinda was pleased to see, and there were none around the table she wanted to approach. She mentally sneered at her useless peers, not surprised that they couldn't figure out what one of the best subjects in the school was. Marching up to the Divination table, she took in the array laid out along it. Her eyes actually gleamed as she took in all the tools she would get to use, especially the crystal ball. This one would actually work, unlike any she had ever seen out in the muggle world. "Tell me exactly what I'll be learning when I take this course," Lucinda said, lifting her head up to look at the professor behind the table. "I've already tried tarot readings, and rock scrying, but when will we get to use the crystal ball?" |
