[justify]Professor Sarah Harrington was ready for the third year lesson. She hoped that the third years wouldn't mind starting off into a lesson right away. She thought they were old enough now to handle new material during the first week. She waved her wand and the students began to enter in. She smiled brightly towards the students hoping none of them were very sleepy. "Welcome back to Astronomy third years! I'm Professor Harrington and today we are going to focus on types of galaxies and what exactly a galaxy is," she said looking over the young faces.

"Galaxies are giant groups of millions or even trillions of stars. And if you remember from last year, you should have learned all about stars." Sarah paused for a moment. "Our local galaxy is the Milky Way, there is believed to be twenty trillion galaxies in the universe, at the moment there are only three galaxies visible from the naked eye from Earth besides the Milky Way - the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds and the Andromeda Galaxy. There are four types of a gallery and were going to quickly run through them all as they will appear in your exams. First spiral galaxies are spinning, Kart-wheel like galaxies with a dense core and spiraling arms. Second, a barred spiral galaxies have just two arms. These are linked to the galaxy's middle bar from which they trail like water from a muggle spinning garden sprinkler." Professor Harrington smiled at the students allowing them a moment to write down the types of galaxies.

"Third are Elliptical galaxies are vast, very old, egg-shaped galaxies, made up of as many as a trillion stars. And lastly are Irregular galaxies, which are galaxies with no obvious shape. They may have formed from the debris of galaxies that crashed into each other. And last thing I will mention is that galaxies are often found in groups called 'clusters' they can have as many has thirty galaxies in one cluster." Professor Harrington concluded the lesson. "So, make sure you have notes and once you have done that you may leave, no homework today guys."

Homework:
Please roleplay the lesson and have your character take some notes.

The holidays had been fun for the most part, though there was definitely a lot more tension now that she and her dad had moved in with Kyle and October. It was a lot easier to avoid the older girl at Hogwarts, where they were in different houses. April had her own friends and never had trouble enjoying herself at Hogwarts. Though she didn't enjoy every class she was in a lot.

One of those was Astronomy, as it involved a lot of sitting still and listening to lectures which was not her particular talent. She did think stars and planets were pretty interesting, but couldn't stop her thoughts from wandering during lectures. She smiled at the professor as she headed to her seat. Hopefully this lesson wouldn't be too boring. But she was soon disappointed when the professor started talking. This was definitely a lecture. Sighing, she tried her best to keep up with the lecture by taking notes. A few tidbits stood out to her, like the fact that spiral galaxies were spinning galaxies. That looked really funny in her mental image. Another that gave her a funny mental image ere the Elliptical galaxy, which was shaped like an egg. She knew it probably didn't actually look like an egg, but she couldn't help imagining it like that. She doodled a little egg with her notes. When the lesson was over, she had some scattered notes. Hopefully she could ask Kauri to share notes. She had really tried her best, but she couldn't help her inability to focus.

It was a very hard decision to stick to astronomy. She wasn't that good at the subject and didn't like it as much. But she didn't want to show that she failed and then drop the subject. Elly arrived at the tower and waited for the Professor to come in. What she hadn't expect was that there was a new Professor for astronomy. She could have guessed it, since she hadn't seen the other one at the feast.

The lesson was going to be about galaxies and Elly took her paper and pen. She still couldn't do well with quills. When the Professor mentioned milky way Elly thought about the muggle candy and smiled. It was one way to remember these things. Elly wrote down the four types of galaxies which were spiral galaxies, barred spiral galaxies and third are Elliptical galaxies and fourth the irregular galaxies. Elly wrote them all down and wrote next to the name what they looked like.

When she was done with all the galaxies and how odd they were shaped she was done. Well the Professor said there was no homework and she did make notes. Elly smiled, at least this Professor didn't demand 40 pages of homework.

Sara had been really happy with the outcome of her grades last semester and for the first time her parents had been, too. She had managed to make them pleased about something about Hogwarts. She knew she needed to keep it up this semester though, as her mother was still watching her like a hawk even when she wasn't home - not literally, of course. Somehow, her mom always found out about how Sara was doing and she knew that eventually she would have to confront her brother about it and ask him downright, despite her trusting him with her life. She also had a feeling that just because she got perfect grades last semester it didn't mean she would be able to rest. If anything, she would have to be even more on top of things, now that she had more electives.

Sara twirled the quill in her hand as the professor began the lesson. Astronomy was a nice subject, but mostly Sara had wanted to take a variety of different electives this year. So far though, all the teachers Sara had were friendly and seemed like they enjoyed their profession, which was a good sign. Today they were to dive right into the work. They were going to be taught about the different types of galaxies. Sara nodded, she remembered last year and when they learned all about the stars. The Slytherin only glanced up once at Professor Harrington, during the second she was done catching up with the notes. At the end of the lesson, she was kind of surprised to find out her hand wasn't cramping - it was a relief. There was no homework today. Sara gathered her belongings and thanked the professor before she headed out.

The stars were fascinating enough to Kauri that he had kept up with the subject, despite the late class times getting a little too much for him in past years. He had hoped that third year would be different, that he would be able to stay up later without getting horribly sleepy. Sadly, that seemed not to be the case, as he couldn't stop yawning on his way up the stairs to the Astronomy tower. Taking a seat near the back, he hoped that Professor Harrington wouldn't be able to tell if he drifted off a little bit during class.

To Kauri's dismay, the lesson wasn't just a late one, it was a lecture, the kind of class he struggled the most to pay attention to. He got his quill and parchment out quickly and did his best, trying to pay attention and take notes as Professor Harrington spoke. The late hour got to him though, and Kauri found himself missing a few key notes as his yawning distracted him from focusing on the lecture. He was relieved to find out they had no homework, packing his things up sleepily and dragging himself off to his dorm, ready to get a good night's sleep and try to make sense of his notes in the morning.

Even though Phoebe had had a fun time over the holidays, she was glad to be back at school. Hogwarts was a very magical environment and there was always something interesting to do or discover. She still wanted to go back into the forest at some point, but would first have to figure out some way not to get caught. But lessons were a part of school too, and Phoebe enjoyed that as well. She liked getting new information.

Phoebe enjoyed Astronomy, as all things to do with space and phenomenon like stars and planets interested her like most things did. She took a seat next to Veronica and looked to the front of the class, where their new Professor was explaining to them what they were going to learn this lesson. Apparently they were going to focus on types of galaxies, and Phoebe took out her notepad and pen to take notes. She wrote down that a galaxy was a gian group of millions of stars, and that their own galaxy was called the Milky Way. She knew that already, but it was still something she could write down so she would know to revise it for the exam. She also wrote down the information about the other galaxies the professor mentioned and the four types she covered. It wasn't a very long lecture, but it had been an informative one, which she appreciated. When the lesson was over, she was surprised but glad not to receive any homework. She packed up her things, and headed down the stairs of the tower.

Sophie Wilson's life had taken some strange turns lately. The yule ball had been very eventful for the girl, as she had discovered a new side of her sister and had gained herself a boyfriend as well. It was strange to get used to changes, but both of these were pretty good. The conversation she'd had with Amber a few days ago was the first good conversation they'd had in a while. It had started the semester off on a good note. It would be great if the lessons could follow that tradition.

Sophie always liked Astronomy enough, though it wasn't her favorite. She headed into the classroom and took a seat, wondering what they were going to do today. The first lesson was usually just an introduction, so she expected that much. The professor was new and introduced herself, then explained what they were going to cover this year. Galaxies sounded like it could be interesting, depending on how they covered it. The professor went on to give the a bit more information, naming other galaxies than their own and different types. Sophie took a few notes, then was surprised the lesson was over already. She gathered her things, and left the classroom.
