Sarah went over her notes for the first lesson over and over before the lesson began, it had been many years since she had sat in the classroom like these seventh years. She hoped by the end of the year they would all still love this subject, as she did. She waved the students in and had Tim Tams at each desk and the choice of hot chocolate or hot apple cider waiting for each student. She hoped the snacks and drinks would help the students stay awake and pay attention during the lesson. "I'm Professor Harrington, I'm taking over as Astronomy Professor for the upper years," Sarah said with a large friendly smile. "Now, we are going to jump right into things as we have a lot to cover, please take out your writing supplies, as you'll be taking plenty of notes today. I am sorry about that, but if you don't you may struggle to remember this lesson for your exam at the end of the year," Sarah said waving her wand to begin the notes on the board. "Now, Sir Lawrence Wallinthorpe dedicated his like to the subject of life, extra-terrestrial life that is. He discovered that life could develop anywhere there is a flow of energy. Everyday things we take for granted in our lives might actually be able of thought as Sir Wallinthorpe discovered with space clouds." She smiled to the class as they began taking notes on the lecture. "A lot of times people claim to see strange objects flying in the skies, these are known as 'Unidentified Flying Objects' or simply put UFOs. Today we are going to look at various types of encounters with these UFOs," Sarah began to write on the board at the front of the classroom with her wand. "Now, keep in mind you may find this subject silly but extra-terrestrial life is very important part of the work for Astronomers," Sarah reminded her students. She began to write on the board for the students to copy down the encounters.
"Now, Frank Drake created the Drake Equation, which calculates on average how many planets in the entire galaxy could have other civilizations. The figure is over a million, however this doesn't mean we need to worry about them. Aliens do exist but they live separately from us," Sarah said glad to be able to put her wand down for the moment allowing the students to finish copying down the board. "Formaldehyde, a chemical produce by all life forms, has been detected by radio emissions from the NGC 253 galaxy, so we can be certain that all of this is true. You are dismissed for this week," Sarah smiled with a smile and waved the wand so the door opened and the students could go once they finished taking notes. Astronomy,7,1 |
