Professor Sarah Harrington

Mother of Two Girls | Astronomy Professor | HS Graduate Ravenclaw

[justify]Sarah went over her notes for the first lesson over and over before the lesson began, it had been many years since she had sat in the classroom like these seventh years. She hoped by the end of the year they would all still love this subject, as she did. She waved the students in and had Tim Tams at each desk and the choice of hot chocolate or hot apple cider waiting for each student. She hoped the snacks and drinks would help the students stay awake and pay attention during the lesson. "I'm Professor Harrington, I'm taking over as Astronomy Professor for the upper years," Sarah said with a large friendly smile. "Now, we are going to jump right into things as we have a lot to cover, please take out your writing supplies, as you'll be taking plenty of notes today. I am sorry about that, but if you don't you may struggle to remember this lesson for your exam at the end of the year," Sarah said waving her wand to begin the notes on the board.

"Now, Sir Lawrence Wallinthorpe dedicated his like to the subject of life, extra-terrestrial life that is. He discovered that life could develop anywhere there is a flow of energy. Everyday things we take for granted in our lives might actually be able of thought as Sir Wallinthorpe discovered with space clouds." She smiled to the class as they began taking notes on the lecture. "A lot of times people claim to see strange objects flying in the skies, these are known as 'Unidentified Flying Objects' or simply put UFOs. Today we are going to look at various types of encounters with these UFOs," Sarah began to write on the board at the front of the classroom with her wand. "Now, keep in mind you may find this subject silly but extra-terrestrial life is very important part of the work for Astronomers," Sarah reminded her students. She began to write on the board for the students to copy down the encounters.

Official Chart for 'Encounters With the _____ Kind'

Close Encounter with the First Kind
A sighting of one or more unidentified flying objects (UFO's):
Flying saucers
Odd lights
Aerial objects that do not compare in greatness to that of human's

Close Encounter with the Second Kind
A sighting of a UFO, and associated physical effects from the UFO:
Heat or radiation
Damage to land/terrain
Human paralysis
Disturbed/frightened animals
Interference with communication devices, radio's or TV
Lost time - Like a gap where you can't remember what you did, when you saw the UFO

Close Encounter with the Third Kind
When you encounter not only a saucer, or a ship, but you also see the entities who are driving said ship, and they maybe wave at you, and you wave back, that is an encounter of the third kind. It is also important to note that a muggle astronomer named Ted Bloecher created the Hynek's Scale, which is seven sub-types for Encounter with the third kind they are:
A. An entity is observed only inside the UFO.
B. An entity is observed inside and outside the UFO.
C. An entity is observed near to a UFO, but not going in or out.
D. An entity is observed. No UFOs are seen by the observer, but UFO activity has been reported in the area at about the same time.
E. An entity is observed. But no UFOs are seen and no UFO activity has been reported in the area at that time.
F. No entity or UFOs are observed, but the subject experiences some kind of "intelligent communication".
G. Abduction (same as Close Encounter with the Fourth Kind)

Close Encounter with the Fourth Kind
This is where you are abducted by extra-terrestrial life and operated on and so forth. You are taken onto the ship and experience effects thereafter.

Close Encounter with the Fifth Kind
In this case, you use some form of device and actually look for the aliens yourself, and you find them. You must have had communication with extra-terrestrial intelligent life forms and not to mention be conscious and aware of what you are doing (not mentally ill etc.).

"Now, Frank Drake created the Drake Equation, which calculates on average how many planets in the entire galaxy could have other civilizations. The figure is over a million, however this doesn't mean we need to worry about them. Aliens do exist but they live separately from us," Sarah said glad to be able to put her wand down for the moment allowing the students to finish copying down the board. "Formaldehyde, a chemical produce by all life forms, has been detected by radio emissions from the NGC 253 galaxy, so we can be certain that all of this is true. You are dismissed for this week," Sarah smiled with a smile and waved the wand so the door opened and the students could go once they finished taking notes.
