Professor Kalif Styx
Member Avatar
Patriarch of the Zhefarovich Family, Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Slytherin Head of House, Former Death Eater, Legilimens, Occlumens

Professor Styx was sitting behind his desk rather than standing up to get the lesson going or starting. He opened the doors with a wave of his hand to allow the sixth years into the classroom to see that they were entering through the doors and taking a seat. Professor Styx waited patiently until it was time to begin the lesson. Professor Styx closed the doors with waving his hand, and he looked back at the student with his cold, onyx eyes. They were in for a rough year. They had passed the OWLs, but that was nothing compared to the NEWTs. And this year was going to strain those small brains inside of their skulls. Professor Styx was sure that they were going to have a hard time in this class except for those select few that had talents.

"This year, we are going to be covering more advanced spells of both offence and defence. You will also be doing an introduction to non-verbal spells. Last year was difficult, however this year only gets harder, and even more difficult the last year," Professor Styx stated coldly to his class. This year's course was not named Advanced Defence for no reason. All of the things they will be learning here will be advanced, and not even a third year could imagine how hard this was for the sixth years. "You will need to be vigilant, prepared, alert and disciplined more than ever before. Many of you will not be able to perform the non-verbal incantations immediately, it usually requires lots of practice. I will be surprised if any of you get it on your first try." Professor Styx waved his hand at the door, and he stated, "Class dismissed. Be prepared next lesson." The doors opened and they were free to leave.

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson.

Eleanor was excited for the next semester of school to start. It was the last semester before her NEWT exams which were followed by the rest of her life and the thought of that was slightly daunting. The Hufflepuff tried not to let this get to her however. She was never usually nervous for exams but the NEWTs were the most important ones and she had only one semester left before she had to prepare for them. Luckily, distracting her was the thought of Jerara and she couldn't be happier about that. It meant she didn't have to sit around thinking of school all of the time and had him to look forward to after each class.

As Ellie entered the Defence Against The Dark Arts classroom she shivered before taking her seat. She did not like the atmosphere of the classroom but had chosen the subject in hopes she would do well. The professor stared at them all intimidatingly as Ellie waited for the lesson to begin. When it did, she made sure to write down as much of what the professor was saying as she could. He mentioned it would be hard for them and Ellie took a deep breath thinking now it was probably too late to drop. Nonetheless, she liked a challenge and would try her best. When the lesson ended the Hufflepuff made sure to pack away her belongings as quickly as she could before promptly heading out of the classroom.

[justify]Sianna was looking forward to more fun when she finally graduated, at the very least with apparition this semester, the young woman had plans to go travelling a bit, visit sites that she hadn’t been to in a while. It was a whole photography adventure that she was planning for herself. After all, there was little bringing her home to her family and little keeping her to stick around, one of her friends had gotten engaged so she’d come back for that wedding, but she had no interest in really sticking around in New Zealand, since she didn’t have any other friends. The whole falling apart of her friendship with Lennon because of that stupid girl had left Sianna without anyone to really hang out with. But, it didn’t matter, over the break another of her pictures had been published so she was focusing on that, doing that for a while would be better. She could travel, see places and people and Hogwarts would become a distant memory. However, she still had a little while to go. The girl was putting the final few things into her bag before she walked out of the dorm room, heading straight to class.

Sianna was curious as to what this higher level and more advanced defence against the dark arts class would bring for her. The girl took her seat in the room and allowed her gaze to shift towards the front of the room where the professor was already sitting. It wasn't too much longer after everyone had arrived that the man got started, telling them what they would be covering during this, second to last semester of Defence against the dark arts. She had her notes out, but she was sure that they wouldn't need to take any notes, nor that this class would take particularly long. It turned out she was right, the man explained to them what they would be doing, gave some words of what could be taken as wisdom and then that was it, class over. Sianna was a little disappointed by this but she was looking forward to what they would be covering over the next few weeks. She packed up her things and left the classroom.

[justify]Ares was busy, as he always seemed to be nowadays, he just had a lot going on. The boy was trying to manage a quidditch team and do alright in his classes. Unlike so many others he had a real struggle when it came to managing his classes. He had to work hard in all of them, study hard for him to get passing grades for them. It meant that Ares was really thinking about what his future might be. He wanted to play quidditch, he of course wanted to play quidditch, but he knew that he needed to have a back up option, quidditch was dangerous, he could get very hurt from it and never play again, and he needed the grades to help him should that happen. But, it was difficult for the Hufflepuff. He had finished up with an early morning solo practice, with a game at the end of the week he needed to be putting in the time for that, to be able to play well enough. The teen took a short shower and then checked the time and noted that he needed to hurry. He grabbed all the books he would need for the day and left the room when ready.

Ares walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom, and took his usual spot in the room, the teen had been surprised to have done well enough in his OWL that he was able to continue with the NEWT course. The boy looked up at the professor as he began the lesson. The boy was sure that they would be doing something more complex and interesting over this first NEWT year, after all they were pretty close to being let loose into the magical world without the net of the school. The quidditch captain wrote down the things that they would be doing over the semester and he was hopeful for the non-verbal magic. He couldn't wait to try some of that. However that was it for the lesson, they were dismissed, he gathered up his things, packed them away and then left the room. He was happy to not have any homework so that he could focus on other things. He would be ready for the next class when it came around. Ares couldn't wait for them to do non-verbal magic.

[justify]Getting engaged to Elysia had been a smart decision, of course it had. There was no one in his life he would ever love as much as he loved her. There was no one he would rather spend a whole amount of time with. It was just perfect, his parents had been happy of course, Elysia was a beautiful pureblood woman, and though their family hadn’t ever really pressed that too heavily it was an underliar to a few thoughts and feelings. He certainly held harsher views though he never vocalised them. The boy was happy to be back at school for once, after all, the short break had left little time for him to see either his fiancee or his friends, both of which he would see in the school. The teen was of course getting ready for the day, as silently as he ever did do so. He wasn’t particularly looking forward to the classes themselves, knowing he would continue to have the same issues with them as he’d always had. But the slytherin pushed those thoughts aside and left the room, eager to head for class to see Elysia again. It would be a good semester, and he wanted to get married the moment the semester ended.

Zared walked into the defence against the dark arts class, he was tentative and nervous about being back in Styx's class, purely because of the fact the last conversation that he had had with him, had been about asking for Elsyia's hand, and that conversation had gone well, considering but he didn't like have to be in the room with him, knowing the man still likely harboured a little hate towards him or just a little disdain, though at the very least he was pureblood. He looked up at the man as he started his lesson, but was glad the it definitely seemed like it wouldn't be a long one. He was eager to get started on non-verbal magic, just thinking that it would be something he was better at but, the teen knew that it likely would be a toss up to see if he was actually good at it. The lesson was brought to an end shortly after it began, when the professor had finished telling them what they'd be doing and with that, Zared wasted no time in packing up his things and hurrying out of the room. He did not want to linger around where Styx was concerned.
