Professor Kalif Styx

Patriarch of the Zhefarovich Family, Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Slytherin Head of House, Former Death Eater, Legilimens, Occlumens

Professor Styx stood in front of the classroom and waved at the doors to have them open to let the seventh years in for one tough lesson, not lecture or homework wise but something mentally challenging. Doing this advanced magic was tough on the mind. As soon as the last student came in and took their seat, Professor Styx waved his hand at the door and it closed. Professor Styx flourished his wand would have to use it here in a minutes. "Today, we are going to be performing wandless magic. You have all learned to do nonverbal magic, and now this is a lot worse on your minds until you can master it." Professor Styx would be watching how they would succeed or fail. "You have done this when you were young and training before you came to school. However this is experiencing with the more powerful and stronger spells as well. It takes tedious practices, great skill and presence of mind. I will see that some of you will not have those qualities just yet."

Professor Styx had very low expectations from everyone. If people succeeded, they would surprise him. "What I want you to do is stand up in a line on this side of the room." His onyx eyes watched as the students moved to their right side of the room. Professor Styx demonstrated wandless and nonverbal magic using 'Locomotor furniture' to the opposite side of the room which was on his right side, using his left hand to perform the wandless magic. "I normally gesture with my hand on performing magic, however this also is simple to do." Folding his arms across his chest, he looked at the stacks of scrolls on his desk, concentrated and levitated to a table directly opposite of each student. "It is all in the mind, however after you are used to your wand controlling your magic, it will take extra practice and determination to succeed at doing wandless magic. I understand if you all feel apprehensive about performing even the simplest of spells without your wands as it is and always will be an extension of yourself."

The former Death Eater continued on, "Clear your minds, concentrate on the scroll in front of you, and practice the summoning charm you all learnt back in your first year. Accio. That is the easiest spell you can get when it comes to wandless. Visualize the scroll leaving the table and coming to you. If you feel the need, say the words aloud. You can practice the wandless and nonverbal in your own time. Now, get started." Professor Styx really doubted that they would all get it on their first try, especially if they were trying nonverbal and wandless at the same time. Professor Styx watched as they attempted it, and soon class was over. "That is it for today. Class dismissed, but be sure to practice."

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson.

Charlotte had been rather enjoying her defence against the dark arts classes. She was good at it, and even though the professor who taught it wasn't her favourite despite being her head of house, the girl didn't mind coming to class and taking notes as the professor spoke in hopes that she would get a good mark in her exam. This year in particular was proving to be a tricky one as it was her last year to get good grades and Charlotte promptly entered the defence against the dark arts classroom, taking her usual seat in the room as she waited for everyone to arrive and for the lesson to begin. When it did, Charlotte took a deep breath as the professor told the class that they were going to be performing wandless magic. When instructed, the head girl made her way to the right side of the room with all of her other classmates and lined up with them. The professor made his demonstration look easy and for a moment Charlotte wondered why they weren't learning this in charms instead.

After the professor told them what they were to do and finished his demonstration, Charlotte somehow felt lost without having to raise her wand. She was at a loss of what to do but soon was able to try to concentrate on getting the scroll to come to her. She imagined it doing so and said the spell in her head but her first try was definitely not successful. She then resorted to simply saying the spell out loud to see if she could do it, which she was soon able to master. When she felt comfortable with this she tried to go again without saying it at all and after a lot of concentrating, the scroll made its way to her and she beamed right before the class ended. She knew though that she would have to keep practising the spell more and left at the end of the class with a smile on her face.

struggling artiste | class of 2046, former head boy

[justify]The halloween celebrations had as ever been great fun, but the ravenclaw was feeling a little bittersweet about that fact, purely because it had been over so quickly, he was no longer going to have that event every year. He was no longer going to have to put in a lot of work so that he could have a hand in winning a competition. It was just interesting, all the little things that had made hogwarts hogwarts were no longer going to be aspects of his life. He would miss the events perhaps more than the people or the school itself. His old school from when he’d been merely a muggle with a magical sister, had had few events and of those, they’d all been terrible, the boy had never wanted to attend one, but the way the entire school seemed to lean into them here had made all of it far more enjoyable. The head boy put down the book he’d been reading and glanced around the dorm room, he’d maybe miss this place. He thought it would be weird to actually live in a flat or house after school, when he had spent years in dorm rooms. Theo put such thoughts aside and just focused on getting ready, gathering everything up and leaving for the class.

Tholomyes walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and looked up at the professor at the front of the room as he got started on what they would be doing in the lesson. It became quickly clear what they would be covering during this class. The idea of doing magic without his wand was a little wild, though he'd been in the magical year for over six years and learned so many things about the magical world, he didn't ever think he'd be doing anything without the wand. He listened as the professor explained it, telling them that it would take a while, and he was a little surprised that even some of them wouldn't be able to do it. He stood up in the line like the professor told them too and watched as he managed to do the wandless magic with ease. They would be doing the summoning charm, which Theo had gotten to be very natural with, managing it non-verbally, but this was an entirely different challenge, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to do it. He could just feel it. He held out his hand as he would if he had his wand, and felt a bit silly. He concentrated hard, but didn't manage to get the spell. He noted that it moved a few times, and that others had resorted to saying it outloud, but Theo's own determination to not look any more silly won over on his desire to get the spell right, he would need far more practice, so much more practice. With that the lesson was wrapped up and Tholomyes left the class.

[justify]Rome was not happy, though she was never really happy about anything. The girl had been trying her best to stay focused on school, to remain focused on figuring out her next steps after leaving, but she had reached the point in the semester where her ability to care about anything dwindled dramatically. She didn’t like the halloween festivities, and the fact that Slytherin had played quidditch was not any better. All of it was just the worst. Rome was however still getting ready for class, she was saying every few minutes, she was mentally complaining about all that she had to do. Hating everything that touched her hands with a passion. It was a slow process getting ready, but venting all of school anger purely through spell work didn’t always help, so she needed to just let her anger exist. It did help, muttering and hating inanimate objects but she knew she had to bottle the anger up more before getting to class. If she was angry there, she’d get into trouble and there was no way that she would get kicked out of school so close to graduation. So, she bottled it down and left for the class.

Rome walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and figured that this would be a good lesson. She had been wanting to learn about wandless magic since the moment the word had been uttered. She looked up at the man as he began, wasting no time in telling them that was what they'd be doing. Rome stood at the side of the room like she was instructed to and glanced towards the man once more as he explained to them what they'd be doing. Rome nodded along taking in what needed to be done for the spell to work. She extended her arm out and thought hard about the spell, imagining it in her mind, saying the words in her mind, but nothing happened. She had a feeling that perhaps she'd be one of the people who just wouldn't be able to do this sort of spell at all. She hadn't worked much before the older years of classes, she wasn't as powerful as others, but she was good at casting magic, so maybe she could still pull it off. The teen thought harder and harder, saying it out loud eventually, and only then did the scroll move to her hand. She knew she'd need plenty more practice before she could do it, but that was why she was glad to have no exams until the next semester she could practice now as much as she wanted.
