Professor Styx knew that this lesson would be an easy one, which was no issue for him. Professor Styx entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts, and saw that the first years were all here and seated where they should be. They were going to be practicing dueling, and that would be a treat to them. Professor Styx waited for everyone to be silenced before he started, "Today, we will not be taking notes or enduring a lecture. We will be going over two spells, and then using them. One is called Stupefy, a stunning spell. All you would have to do is point and aim. The spell takes some concentration. Also, there is the simple blocking spell. It is Protego. It will block the spells that will be coming at you." He leaned against the desk, and he continued, "I want you to pair up with a partner, and stand opposite of each other in the front of the room. I want you to attempt to stun each other, while the other uses the spell, Protego, to block the spell." As stated in his first lesson it was part of the rules to bring their wands with them because they would never know when they were going to be using them. "Once everyone is ready, I will instruct you to begin." It looked as though all the first years had found a partner and they were away from the desks and in front of the room. "If someone gets stunned from not using the spell Protego properly, I will revive them. Now begin." Once the practicing began, and he had to revive those that were stunned, it was time to leave. He dismissed them, without homework this time. Assignment: Roleplay the lesson.Defence Against the Dark Arts,1,4 |

Zoe entered the classroom in her usual calm and fearful demeanour, and took her seat. Her ears perked up at the information that there would be lecture, but a practical lesson instead. A duel. Zoe was a little nervous. She had never duelled with anyone - only watched her siblings when they practiced. When the Professor said there would be pairs involved, Zoe was almost relieved at the realisation that there was at leat one other person she knew. She spotted her brown head in the scramble to find a partner. Hey Sam! Um...I know we don^t know each other too well, but, wanna be my partner? she sidled up to and asked the Slytherin. Sam agreed, instantly relaxing the Gryffindor slightly. They were meant to be practising attacks and blocking spells, so the girls faced one another and took a duelling stance, their wands at the ready. Stupefy! Zoe called out first, but Sam was a little more alert than she had thought, and blocked the spell quickly. Zoe smiled slightly, pleased with Sam^s reflexes, but also a little sheepish that she thought stunning the Slytherin would be easier, before she tried again. |

Sapphire hurried into her defense against the dark arts class, flashing a small smile at the Professor before taking her seat next to Alkander. Saph was all prepared to take notes until Professor Styx informed them they'd be dueling instead. Her brow furrowed a bit and she glanced at Alkander next to her. "We're partners," She told him before dragging him to an empty spot. She copied his stance, and she took a deep, calming breath. She relaxed, letting go of her worries, and focused. "Stupefy!" The spell worked properly, and Alkander handled it well. He grinned at her. "Stupefy!" Saph was watching closely, and flicked her wand in response. "Protego!" She let out a satisfied grin at having blocked the spell, even if she hadn't done so quite as gracefully- or easily- as the Gryffindor had. It wasn't long after that, that Professor Styx released them without homework. Saph shrugged and followed Alkander out of the room, planning on pestering him into exploring with her. |

Sam was always prepared before a lesson so it was no surprise that she was one, early, and two with all of her notes intact and done up to this week for this class. Or, all of her classes, but she hated sounding like a know-it-all. It was a word that made the girl uncomfortable. She took her seat in the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, without saying anything and as the lesson began, Sam pursed her lips. It was going out of her comfort zone and she didn't like it one bit. Although, duelling did seem like fun. When the professor told them to pair up, Sam looked around her but before she could really find someone who wasn't already practicing a girl she had met a few days ago approached her. Sam smiled at her and nodded, "Sure," happy to have someone with which to try out new spells. When both girls were in position, Zoe started, Sam‘s quick reflexes helped. "Protego," she cast, blocking the spell successfully to her surprise. She hadn't thought she would get it this quickly. It was her turn now and she cast, "Stupefy!" When her and Zoe had practiced it enough for the lesson, they were dismissed, but without homework this time, something Sam wasn't used to. She packed up and left the room, heading back to the common room. |

Gwen was not looking forward to her Defence Against The Dark Arts lesson. After having such a bad week she was not in the mood to endure having to listen to the most strictest professor in the school lecture her in a very cold and gloomy classroom. Nonetheless, the Gryffindor reluctantly followed her classmates to class and took her usual seat in the room. As the professor told them that they were going to be using their wands, the girl sat up straighter in her seat, eager to get started. When told to find a partner, the girl looked around the room for someone to pair up with. It definitely wasn't an easy task and Gwen finally settled on a Slytherin girl who looked like she hadn't made any friends in Hogwarts yet either. She took out her wand when instructed and stood opposite her. When it was time to start firing spells, Gwen did so. "Stupefy." she said quickly, flicking her wand at the girl. She was happy to see that it worked and the pair of them sent spells back and forth to each other until the end of the lesson. She packed up and left the classroom at the end of the lesson, happy to be finally out of the class but happy with the lesson nonetheless. |

Ana was happy to be attending another Defence Against The Dark Arts class. She enjoyed the lectures the professor gave them and it was usually very quiet in the classroom due to the professor's strict demeanour. Ana liked classes like this and promptly made her way to her fourth lesson of the year, interested to see what the professor had in store for them this lesson. She sat at the front of the room and looked up at the professor as he explained that they would be using their wands. She wasn't sure how happy she was about this, especially at the fact that she also had to find a partner, but shrugged as she did so nonetheless. Looking around the room, Ana realised how many friends she didn't have. The girl wasn't friends with anyone in her class, or the school for that matter, and hoped that this would change. Sighing, she paired up with a red-haired Gryffindor girl who was also still looking for a partner and stood opposite her when instructed. When the spells started, Ana was a bit taken aback by how quickly the Gryffindor began and jumped out of the way of the spell with a small shriek as she saw it coming to her. "Stupefy." she retaliated, flicking her wand towards the girl. She watched as the girl blocked it, and as another spell was sent to Ana she blocked it too and smiled at herself. At the end of the lesson Ana thought she was starting to get the hang out dueling and left the classroom pleased with herself. |
