Professor Styx was waiting behind his desk where he remained sitting with the doors to the class open for the day. He was sipping at a glass of unsweetened tea to assist in himself getting some energy in today. Luckily, he would not have to talk too long. Professor Styx noticed then the second years were coming into the classroom and taking their seats. Professor Styx waited for them to arrive and he did not bother greeting them or anything. He just started the topic, "The Jelly-legs jinx is today's subject which was invent for pure amusement. However, it was also adopted for other reasons. The spell itself can be used by a powerful witch or wizard use when he or she might be wandless." Professor Styx waited a moment to let the students have a good grasp on this before he would continue. "You will be writing an essay on this jinx as well. However, this week, you will be practicing blocking spells as well, using Stupefy and Protego. You all should have no issues using this, however if you have some time at the end of the class, you can attempt to use the jinx as well. You will have one partner, and take turns casting spells at each other." Professor Styx watched them get up and do exactly what he was told. He had to get up every so often to make sure that those that were stunned and otherwise jinxed were back to their original state, however it seemed to be less of a hassle than the previous year. Once they were finished practicing, Professor Styx made sure that they knew what they had to for their homework, and dismissed them for the day. Chante arrived to DADA on time. She sat at her usual seat, which was always far away from Styx as possible. Some reason, she had this sickening feeling he might like the fact she was a mixed blood with giant. Many didn't approve of their kind. So it was normal to feel this way. Regardless if she showed in heights or not, she still had giants blood running in her veins. And there lies another problem, will her skin be too thick for these spells to work? In a way, that would be an advantage for her. On the other hand, that give the others to question her blood. And if she had to say who she was, so be it. Chante didn't mind, it's just that Styx, she didn't trust him yet. Someone who stays in dark classrooms sure does looks suspicious. And it's wrong for her to judge, she knows this. She better than that, however that gutsy feeling won't go away. Chante tries her best to focus in on the lesson. This wasn't like her, worried about what Professor Styx had thought about her. Maybe it was because of that rioting and protesting in school recently? She wasn't there when it happened, but he was and those muggelborns. What were they angry about? Chante partner up with someone to get through the lesson. Sufficiently, she had no problem casting protective spells and throwing jinxes. After her fourth tries, she felt like a pro! The worries were no longer there. So far, spells and jinxes wasn't so hard for the mutt witch. Chante, pleased with herself, left the classroom in a better mood than when she came in. |

Taking his seat near the front, Oliver half smirked as the professor began the lesson off without a greeting. What a strange dude... He thought to himself, trying not to get distracting by Styx's appearance again. It was all in vain and the Hufflepuff bit his cheek as punishment when he imagined the professor angrily smashing a shiny electric guitar with black eyeliner smudged around his eyes. Finally spiraling back to earth, he quickly got his parchment and quill handy in order to jot down details on the lesson. The boy perked up in his seat as the professor stated that a wizard or witch could possibly cast the spell without use of their wand. Oliver smiled at the thought, and wondered if he'd ever be capable of being that powerful. Probably not. I've never seen my dad do anything like that. He thought to himself, his hopes deflating, and he subconsciously wished his dad had married a witch. The Hufflepuff brightened as the students paired up to practice. He favored the lessons where they were able to use their wands, and he sent a grin towards his partner. The hold on his wand tightened as the pair faced off, and from then on the lesson went quite seamlessly for Oliver. As the professor has stated earlier, he had no troubles executing the first two spells and the boy confidently began attempting the jinx. It took more than one go, but he was able to cast it with the desired effect, and he straightened his back, feeling quite proud as they neared the end of the lesson. Once dismissed, he collected his belongings and took his leave. |

It was clear that the part-veela thrived in this sort of environment, he did well when he was able to work hard and not relent on what he had to do. He wanted to be the best and clearly he would work until he was the best. The boy had thought about expanding his interests but largely they remained exactly on what he was doing in school, his education was the most important thing. Simon was getting ready for the day, having come in from a short run and was getting his bits and pieces together before washing. The boy stuck to his routines and regimes to ensure he stayed in top form for everything, there was no room for slacking off in Simons life. The ravenclaw eventually showered, lingering longer under the warm water than was entirely necessary, but enjoying the sensation anyway. Eventually though, the boy got out the shower and get dressed, putting on his uniform, putting his books into his bag and grabbing the last bits and pieces that he would need for the day. Simon was looking forward to what this day would bring him, what this week would hold. Simon walked into the defense against the dark arts class and took his usual spot in the room, looking up at the professor as the man got started. He was certainly hoping that they would be learning something fun. He had to admit that the jinx the man said, sounded really interesting. He was looking forward to learning more about it, but as it turned out they wouldn't be doing that. Instead they were likely to just be practicing the stupefy and protego spells, which Simon didn't mind. He pointed his wand at the person he'd been partnered up with and began doing the spells back and forth. However, since he was pretty good at the spells, it didn't take long for him to get bored of those spells and begin trying the other one, the jelly-legs jinx as the professor had allowed them to do so. By the end of the lesson, he felt he had also gotten fairly good at that one too. He was disappointed they didn't learn more about the spell, but was pleased that they had in fact gotten to cast magic. He had been able to practice the spell too and he would be damned if he wouldn't be good with that spell either. |
