[justify]Today's lesson was certainly going to be an interesting lesson. Sarah was going to use a machine that creates very small black holes, nothing that could consume anything large, things smaller than a paper clip probably. Once again she glanced at the classroom and checked everything. She sat down at her desk and waited for them to arrived. When the class arrived, she waved her wand, letting them in. "So today gang we are going to look at black holes okay?" Sarah smiled towards the class. "Now black holes aren't as scary as they sound, and as you can see the machine in front of me is going to produce a very small one, oh the previous Professor who invented this called it, Michelle's Awesome Black hole Accumulator 9234" She added with a small laugh. "So without further ado I shall begin, a black hole is a dead star, dead as a doorbell and its gravity field has become so strong, that it has sucked in itself.. and it sucks in everything around, devouring and destroying it. Even light cannot escape, matter spiraling into a black hole is torn apart and glows so brightly that it creates quasars, like you looked at last year. The swirling gases around a black hole turn it into an electrical generator, making it spout jets of electricity billions of kilometers into space" She lectured. "Now make sure you have some notes down for that, cause now were going to see this baby in action." She grinned excited to see the invention working. "Now let me just power this up, here we are, right I am going to put these mere paper clip inside this black hole." She said pointing at a jet-black blob behind her, which was very small. "Ready?" She asked, a few nods from students was enough to make her do it, she chucked it in and it disappeared, she quickly flicked her wand the black hole sealed into nothingness. "Right, that paper-clip is in a void now, it's nowhere in a sense, but it's a void." She laughed. "We are going to bring that paper clip back next lesson, you are dismissed." She smiled. [justify] Clara walked into the Astronomy classroom. She was not a fan of having to walk up all of those stairs, but she was getting so much more used to it, that it was becoming less and less of a pain. She was pretty sure she'd be set the a triathlon if she kept this up and jogging was always a good way to keep energy too. She felt sorry for the Ravenclaws the most, having to go up and down stairs all day. Clara was only on the fourth floor and most of the classrooms she needed were focused on three floors, so it wasn't too much of a hassle. She thought it was silly to have moving staircases though, because she frequently ended up no where near the place she wanted to go because the staircase had moved. She rolled her eyes at the thought of being late constantly. It was not something she enjoyed. She took her usual seat towards the middle of the classroom. Though when she'd been here as a first year, her seat was towards the front, transferring out meant she lost it, so she was now in whatever seat had been empty in the second week, which was this one. It was too bad, she really preferred the front. They were learning about Black Holes today and Clara pulled out her book to take some notes. It was really interesting to her that they would be making a blackhole int he middle of the classroom and Clara really wanted to see how it would work. She could take notes, tell her father about it, she was sure it would interest him. Could you kill someone with a microscopic black hole? She thought you probably could and it would be so interesting. She held up her hand to ask a question. "Professor, if nothing escapes the gravity and force of a black hole, why are you going to create one in the classroom, isn't it strong enough to pretty much suck this whole castle into it?" The thought intrigued her and as the lesson continued, Clara watched in awe as the professor created a black hole. Clara wanted to touch it, to see it up close, but was told to sit down when she got up to have look at it. She frowned and did as she was told, but she wasn't happy about it. It was thrilling, looking at the blackhole and thinking about all the possibilities it could go wrong. The professor could get sucked into the event horizon, wouldn't that be a story to tell the other students? Clara almost wished she had something interesting to talk to them about now. She'd been away from her friends for so long, she'd told them all her stories at once and now she had nothing. The lesson ended and Clara packed up her books. She'd need to look at that again. October was looking forward to Astronomy class this week... last week's lesson had been fascinating, and she had really enjoyed working on her essay for it. She wondered what they would be covering this week as she took her seat at the front of the class, getting her things ready to take notes. She perked up at once as Professor Harrington began talking about Black Holes, listening with even more interest than before. She had done a little reading about them in the past, when the class covered galaxies, but she was eager to learn more now. October felt her heart skip a beat though, when the Professor said they were going to generate one right here in the classroom. She was relieved that she wasn't the only one alarmed by this proposition, nodding in agreement when one of her classmates spoke up about it. For the first time since arriving at Hogwarts October actually wished she had chosen a seat at the back of the classroom, leaning back slightly in fear as the Professor turned on the black hole. She watched in awe as the paperclip vanished, alarmed that Professor Harrington would get so close. It was a relief when the black hole vanished, but October couldn't help but feel a little queasy at the thought of returning to this next week. She made sure her notes were in order before packing up her things to head back to her room, alarmed at how dangerous this lesson had been. |
