![]() Professor Harrington looked at the front of the room from the back admiring her display of the phases of the moon. Hearing some smaller voices outside the door she quickly cleaned up the room and opened the door allowing the first years in. This week was special, she had finally managed to get all the snacks the students listed during their first week over onto a snack table. Halloween was coming up and she thought it was the perfect time to treat her first years for doing so well so far. "Trick or Treat! Come on in, you'll find if you completed the first homework with a snack listed over on the snack table. Now there is enough to go around so don't be afraid to take a little of everything, I included some healthy options of a veggie tray and fruit as well!" Sarah said as the students came into the room. She hoped they liked the snacks. "So this week, if you can't guess, we are going to be exploring the moon. Not in person of course, but in details. We are going to look at the different phases of the moon. At the times of a New Moon, the moon is located between us and the sun. This isn't the same as an eclipse, it just means that the side reflecting the Sun's rays is facing away from us. Waxing Crescent is when the moon appears to be less than half light up in direct sunlight. The First Quarter, half of the moon is visible in the night time sky, lit up by the Sun's light. All the phases of the light appear to be increasing," she said looking around the class making sure the student's were understanding what she was talking about. "At Waxing Gibbous the moon appears to be more than half fully lit by sunlight....during a Full Moon, the side facing the Earth is fully visible. This is the time when the Earth is between the Moon and Sun, but not in a position where it is blocking the light of the Sun." Professor Harrington paused with a smile on her face. "Now at this point the Moon is start to lose area that is lit, this is called the Waning phase. The first is the Waning Gibbous, the moon appears to be more than one-half, but the opposite side from the Waxing Gibbous. The Last Quarter, only half of the Moon's Surface is reflecting the Sun's rays. Waning Crescent, the Moon appears last than one-half illuminated by the direct Sunlight. We then fade back into a New Moon, where the Moon is not visible in the nighttime sky." She took a pause after reading that out loud from her notes for the lesson. "That is all for today, if you have questions on anything we've worked on so far, feel free to stop by in my Office or ask me now on your way out! There is a short bit of homework to do, very easy if you were taking notes today, also feel free to take a moment and gaze up at the moon and stars before leaving as we have a beautiful clear sky tonight," Professor Harrington said dismissing the class and sitting down at her desk while the students all left. She hoped they did enjoy their snacks and the snacks others enjoyed. Homework: RP the lesson and complete the homework for extra points. Homework + Code for Homework Astronomy,1,3 |

Anastasie did not know how she felt about Astronomy as a subject. She liked looking at the sky sometimes but it had soon become boring and the girl didn't know how much longer she was going to be able to survive in the class. The girl made her way to class and took her usual seat in the room, looking around at all of the different food on the table provided for them. She helped herself to some of the healthier options, feeling that she shouldn't eat too much before bed, before listening as the professor began the lecture. She didn't realise that there was so much to learn about the moon and scribbled away on her piece of parchment as the professor spoke, explaining its different phases. Ana would definitely have to pay more attention to the night sky next time to see what the moon was up to as she didn't realise that the moon did this. At the end of the lesson the Slytherin took the homework and headed straight out of the class. Homework

Sapphire slipped in to Astronomy behind the last of the other students. She had to admit it was one of the subjects that occasionally caught her interest. Though, this school was way more interesting than the muggle classes she'd been in before. Most of her classes seemed to catch her interest now. She raided the snack table, slipping a few of her cookies into her bag to share with Alkander later. She found an open seat and pulled out her parchment. She nibbled and took notes quietly throughout the lecture. She actually enjoyed herself, and she finished the homework quickly. She turned it in to her lovely professor on the way out, wondering if she'd be able to find Alkander before she decided to eat the cookies herself. Homework |

Kira was one of the first in to class, and she smiled happily when Professor Harrington showed them the table full of treats. She grabbed barely a nibble of everything, making sure she left enough for the other kids. She found a seat near the front when she was done. She already knew what Professor Harrington was telling them- well, mostly, she didn't know all the technical names. She took a few notes throughout the lecture, munching quietly. She had to admit, she was enjoying herself. She would need to write home to Tyra tonight and tell her about everything that was happening. She made a mental note to ask someone how to use an owl. The class seemed to fly by, and before she knew it she had been given her homework. She filled it in quickly before handing it in to the professor with a shy smile. Kira followed the other kids out of the class, wondering if she should go straight to the owlery or just go back to her dorm. Homework |

Astronomy was fun, but the climb was impossible. Jacob was glad he arrived and when he saw his favourite snack he got all excited. He grabbed a piece of caramel sea salt fudge and started to nibble on it. The taste was amazing and Jacob couldn't care what this lesson was about anymore. He loved the fudge and the taste was amazing. With the fudge in his mouth he started to take notes about the moon. The different phases were interesting to know and Jacob was writing them down neatly. He didn't know there were so many phases of the moon and it intrigued him. The professor was fun and she made the lesson better. Jacob made the homework and left the classroom soon after. He was ready for his bed, although the fudge had been nice it would stick to his mouth for the whole night. Homework

Diana didn't think much good of most her classes so far, but Astronomy was an exception. It was probably the least magical of her classes, but she couldn't help liking it. All her life she had been fascinated by the stars, so learning more about it was no chore. The spells and theory in the other lessons just bored or intimdated her, as she knew Phoebe would mock her if she got them wrong. It was easier to just go along without trying too hard. After taking a snack, which was a nice surprise, Diana took a seat next to Sapphire, a girl she had met in the common room and shared a dormitory with. She gave her a small smile before focusing her attention to the front of the class, where Professor Harrington started to speak. She thought the phases of the moon looked quite nice, and started taking notes on the lecture. Diana noted down the different phases Professor Harrington mentioned while eating her chocolate. She accompanied her notes with small drawings of the different phases so she wouldn't forget. Once the lecture was over, she gathered her things and left the classroom. She had enjoyed this lesson quite a bit. |

Gerry liked astronomy. It wasn't her favourite class, but the subject was familiar, the professor was nice and the tower was pretty cool. The professor increased her nice status by giving them a table of snacks to actually eat in class. She happily scooped up a bit of each of the snacks. As much as she liked almonds, a mixture of everything would always reign supreme. She sat at a desk with her hoard. The moon was a topic she knew a lot about already, but she copied down notes anyway. Tiny drawings of the moon's phases were soon accompanied by tiny cartoon moon people. When the professor ended the lecture, she took her up on her recommendation to check out the moon and stars. On a clear night like this, her dad was definitely out star gazing. For the first time, she felt a little homesick. To distract herself, she scribbled down her answers to the homework. After she handed it in, she thanked the professor for the snacks and left.
