Professor Aeon Summers

Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

As the third years entered the room, Summers stood by the door to greet them all, shutting it behind him only once the last few stragglers had caught up. As they took their seats he strode back to his desk at the far end of the classroom and waved his wand toward the board. The inanimate piece of chalk jumped to life and began scrawling up the day's lesson.

Animate to Animate Transfiguration
Rats into Rabbits: Cuniculus

"Alright, let's get started. I'm sure you all remember beginning Animate to Animate Transfiguration last week. Unless you weren't present for whatever reason, in which I expect you made sure to catch up. Unlike last week, there will be no frogs involved. This time, we'll be practicing on rats. Clean rats. Not ones that have been on the street or anything, so don't be too grossed out. They're bred to be pets, not pests." He glanced around the classroom, looking at the girls specifically who typically weren't too happy to come anywhere near what was considered vermin.

"I don't want to waste all lesson talking, so you all need to come up and grab your rats as quickly as possible once I've finished showing you what to do. Make sure you memorise the incantation written on the board. Repeat it after me, Cuniculus!" He said, ensuring they all knew how to properly pronounce it. As soon as they had repeated it, Summers summoned the cage of rats the class would be using and lifted its lid.

"Unfortunately I don't have as many rats to work with as I did frogs. Unless I turn some of you into rats to practice on. Depends on how well you all do. In the meantime, I need you all to pair up with a buddy and attempt to turn one into a rabbit together. Co-operative lessons are always fun. You might even make new friends or something. Who knows. Oh, and another thing. You can practice anywhere in the castle you want. Take a rat and go find somewhere indoors that is relatively quiet to start transfiguring. Just make sure you aren't disrupting other students or classes, or you'll find yourself being the subject of our next lesson." Some of the students looked at him in disbelief, partially over the fact he was letting them roam around the castle for the lesson and partially over his comment about transfiguring them if they misbehaved. If he was allowed, he probably would. Unfortunately that was not the case without their consent.

"I want to see you all having mastered the spell by next week. Now go! Practice! As soon as you've managed the change it into a rabbit, bring it back to my office for grading. See you all next week."
Team up with one of your classmates (or just pretend that you did). You may either role-play practising the spell with your classmate in this classroom, your common room, or an unused classroom, and simply post the link of the rp here; or just pretend that you RP'ed in one of those sections and post it here.

[justify]Geo was excited for another Transfiguration lesson, after feeling like she'd cracked the challenges last week that she no longer worried about feeling as though she was harming anything. She took a seat beside Elly, and got out her belongings, wondering what they'd be seeing today. Other classes would often have spells and charms, but this was the only lesson they really got to experience new things, and watch magic happen in front of their eyes in ways that the third year had never imagined. Geo was excited to hear that they'd be using rats in this lesson. She'd almost purchased one for herself for her eleventh birthday. At least it was going to be a rat or a ferret but no one needed to know that. Rats were cute and she trusted they were looked after in the best ways, especially after seeing how Professor Summers looked after the animals at the menagerie.

"Cuniculus," Geo followed in line with the rest of the class as they practised their incantation. Rising from her chair, she collected one of the rats, doing her best to hold it correctly as she returned back to her desk with it. She was just glad that she'd gotten one, and hadn't been turned into a rat herself. Geo was shocked to hear they were allowed to take the rats out the classroom though, what if they got lost or hurt or trampled on? For the next few hours, Geo would name her rat Murdock and decided she wasn't even going to let him out of her sight.

Knowing a good place they could practise their spells, Geo carefully tucked Murdock into her bag, before glancing across to her friends. They had a room that they could use, and one that they could know their rats would be safe in. She motioned for the Ravenclaw's to follow her, hoping they wouldn't mind sharing the same animal, before heading out the classroom. Hopefully they would be able to bring it back to Professor Summers in one piece, in either rat or bunny form. She didn't feel like handing in a cross breed as her homework, that just wouldn't be kind.

Transfiguration was one Elly her favourite subjects and she was relatively good at it. Elly arrived at the classroom and sat down and soon Geo joined her. She was happy that it was another lesson of transfiguration today. You learned new spells and charms and since she didn't have charms this period, transfiguration had to do.

Elly grabbed her stuff from her bag and waited for the class to start. Apparently they were going to turn rats into rabbits and Elly couldn't wait to do it. Elly practiced the incantation and couldn't wait to use it on the rat. ''Cuniculus'' She said once more to get used to the word. Geo was collecting a rat and Elly knew she could join her if she wanted. So she opted to not get one herself. Geo put the rat in her bag and motioned to Elly to come with her. Elly nodded and walked up to Geo. After this they left the classroom to practice on the rat. She hoped she could do the spell alright.

If Perry was honest and he usually was he had to say he wasn't that great in Transfiguration. He didn't want to drop the course so he had to push on through. Which was going semi well this year. He didn't get the spells in one time, but in his second and third try it usually went better. Perry arrived at the transfiguration and seated himself down.

He seated himself and opened his bag. He probably needed a pen and some parchment to make notes. Perry listened to the Professor and grabbed a rat. He wasn't really fond of rats so he was glad when he could sat is back down. The incantation was another hard one and Perry repeated it a couple of times. Perry teamed up with another Gryffindor and together they walked to the abandoned classroom. The other boy was carrying their rat and he went first. It was an success and know Perry was scared that he had to deliver too.

When it was Perry his turn he inhaled deeply and grabbed his wand. He used the right motion and said the spell. ''Cuniculus'' he said while thinking of a rabbit. For the first time the rat turned into what looked into a rabbit. Perry was excited, this was the first time he had managed to do it on the first try. Perry took the rat to do Professor his office and he and the other boy showed of the rabbit they had created. Since they had they only had one rabbit he had to show the spell in the office. It worked and he showed his rabbit to the Professor. When he was done he left the classroom.

Last week's Transfiguration lesson had actually been pretty fun, and Kauri found himself curious about what they would be learning this week. He felt a little bit of trepidation as he took his seat, but not nearly as much as he would expect. It was exciting to turn one animal into another. It made him wonder about the possibilities. Surely there were real world applications, but Kauri couldn't help his mind turning to cartoonish scenarios, like turning an elephant about to fall on him into a completely different animal at the last second. It was a funny thought, and Kauri looked forward to moving on to bigger animals.

All of Kauri's excitement faded though, as he saw which animal they would be working on this week. Rats?! He cringed as he watched them scampering around, completely grossed out by the little hand-paws grasping things. Just the thought of having to touch one made him shudder, and he was relieved to pair up with someone who had no trouble holding the rat for them, staying as far away from the thing as he could. Kauri and his partner decided to stay in the classroom, the less time Kauri had to spend with the rat near him the better. Pulling a face of disgust as his partner brought their rat over, when it was his turn Kauri pointed his wand at the creature, desperately wanting it to be a bunny instead. "Cuniculus!" He said quickly, and was relieved as the creature's features shifted, a soft, fluffy rabbit sitting where the rat once had. "Aww!" Kauri said happily, all the tension leaving him at once as he leaned in to pat the bunny. It cringed away from him, to his dismay, but once they were all done Kauri and his partner brought their rabbit up to show Professor Summers, Kauri quite proud of his work, and perfectly happy to hold the rabbit now that it was finished being a rat. This was a definite, significant improvement.

[justify]Norton had been thoroughly enjoying everything the school had to offer, loving especially all of the work that he was doing in his new classes. The teen had been somewhat nervous about new classes, being put back at a square one, but clearly he had picked exceedingly well. Since he was absolutely loving every single second of it. The boy couldn’t help but want to know more, do more, and for the first time, his excitement seemed to actually translate to him being able to work, instead of only being able to study for about twenty minutes before getting bored, he could now study for thirty minutes! A whole half hour! The boy had fallen for magic hard, clearly. He had such good friends, he had such a great little pet, there was nothing that would stop his thrilling hogwarts adventure. He was finishing off putting on his uniform, getting his bag together, just getting himself ready to face the day, practically bouncing in every step as he picked out what he wanted to take with him for the day ahead. It was certainly in his mind going to be another amazing week at school, Norton was ready for it.

Norton loved when he could do magic, but they hadn't done that much magic in the transfiguration class so far, they had done one in the last week, but the week before had been a lecture. The boy looked up excitedly at the man that he had learned had been from who he'd gotten his mini dragon and smiled. He took small notes about what the man was saying about the spell they would be learning, while he knew that they should have a little lecture about a spell, about what it did, he was also just eager to get right to the spell itself. The teen teamed up with the person next to him and got one of the rats. He placed it between them and got started. He let the other person go first, turning the rat into the rabbit and then he took his turn. It took Norton several tries before he got it right, but he was proud of himself when he managed it, and given that there had still been time left in the classroom, he was able to do it again and do it far better than he had. When the class was brought to an end, the boy packed up his things, thanked his partner and left the classroom.

Sophie always liked Transfiguration, so when she entered the classroom she had some hope for a good lesson. It didn't much matter to her if it would be theoretical or practical, but she still felt pleased to see what appeared on the blackboard after she took her seat. Animate to Animate transfiguration was difficult, but it was very satisfying to do such a difficult spell right. It made her feel a little jealous to see Elly and Geo sit next to each other, but she didn't show itand instead went to sit in the back. She wasn't thrilled about working with rats but not disgusted by them either. She just hoped the animal wouldn't bite. She paired up with the student closest to her, giving the Gryffindor boy she was now paired with a sullen look. Then she went to get their rat. She watched as Geo and Elly left the classroom together. She knew they wouldn't mind if she joined, but they were supposed to be working in pairs and not groups of three. She tried to push down her annoyance, letting the other person try the spell first. Once the boy was finished and seemed way too pleased to have a rabbit again. Sophie waited for it to be turned back and tried it for herself. "Cuniculus." She said as she pointed his wand at the rat. She was pleased she had managed the spell in one go. She took the rabbit to Professor Summers with the annoying boy, letting him carry it. Once the lesson was over, she left him quickly and went back to the Ravenclaw tower.

stop staring ... I had spattergroit, ok!

Partnered with Norton Gillespie

As much as Minerva liked Professor Summers, she was not sure how she felt about transfiguration. She knew that some students found it relatively easy and had not scruples about changing another animal into another animal or into something inanimate but Minerva did and it upset her greatly to the point where she was not doing as well as she should in this particular class. She tried as hard as everyone else but her heart was seriously not in it. If her mind could not reconcile altering a living thing into another living thing, then her heart most assuredly would not and if her heart and mind were in union against such magic, then it only followed that Minerva would not be adapt at performing this type of transfiguration.

She sat beside Norton in the classroom and bit her lower lip, glancing over at Allistair on occasion to see if either he or Norton had any problems with doing what was expected of them in this class. She couldn't tell by simply looking at them of course and when the professor began the lesson, Minerva turned her head to pay attention, reading what the chalk wrote on the board as the professor spoke. Rats! Minerva disliked vermin and no matter that the professor mentioned that the rats were clean, nothing could or would convince Minerva that the wretched furry things were nothing short of disease carriers.

She shivered and grimaced all at once but something in her seemed to be ready for this lesson, was it her aversion to rats? She wasn't sure but she genuinely didn't think changing such a hostile pest into something more hospitable could be all bad. Sure the professor had said they had been bred to be pets but there was no way that Minerva would ever think of a rat as a pet, they were seriously just too disgusting, vile and dangerous in her mind.

Writing down the spell, she groaned as they were expected to go up and take a rat from its cage giving the professor an aghast expression when he mentioned how he was short of rats and could turn some of the students into them. Thankfully instead he told them to pair up. Minerva turned to Norton immediately and let him go get the rat that he then placed between them. She wasn't about to touch the awful looking furry thing for love or money and was amazed that she had no qualms about turning the rodent into something else entirely. She used the wand movement and spell as shown and cast first, before Norton then had his turn. By the third attempt, Minerva had actually turned the rat into a proper rabbit, furry little tail and big ears an' all. Quite pleased with herself, she watched Norton having his next attempt before she had another go, Min certainly didn't want to think it had been a fluke on her part.

By the end of the lesson, Minerva had changed the rat into a rabbit at least four times and each time she had been more determined and more confident in doing it. She knew as she left the classroom smiling at Norton and thanking him for handling the rat so she hadn't needed to, another thought entered her mind ...the professor had mentioned that he could change the students into rats, she recalled back in first year where he had been a dog! Interesting she murmured to herself before heading back to Hufflepuff house.

Sara arrived to Transfiguration, hoping she wasn't late. It was a relief to know however that she had been just in time. It was unusual for the girl to be late, like ever, but this time she had overslept because she stayed up last night trying to get some extra studying done so she wouldn't fall behind later in the semester. She blinked, forcing herself to focus and to listen to what Professor Summers had to say. She glanced at the writing on the board before watching Professor Summers as he looked, very specifically, at the girls. She sighed inwardly, Sara didn't mind rats of any type. She loved animals and didn't get grossed out that easily.

She repeated the spell with everyone else, and once the professor demonstrated what they were to do Sara got up and went to grab a rat before she was back at her desk and placing the rat in front of her for both her and her classmate that she had paired up with to see. The upside to this lesson was that she didn't have to deal with any sort of jumping animal, so it would be easier to focus on the transfiguration part rather than what the animal was doing, or where it was trying to go. She let the other student go first and once they got it correct Sara smiled encouragingly at them and tried it out herself. "Cuniculus!" Now, instead of an unfortunate looking rat, a white, soft bunny was sitting on her desk. Aww. She wanted to keep it! At the end of the lesson, Sara packed up and gave the now rabbit to the professor to examine, before she made her way out of the classroom, thoroughly having enjoyed the lesson.

Veronica liked her Transfiguration lessons a lot, but she always found it slightly more stressful when learning a new type of transformation for the first time. Sure, she got excited to try it out, but training her brain to correctly imagine and visualise the changes she wanted to make always took a bit of time, particularly now that they had moved into more complex forms of transfiguration. They had already done one Animate to Animate spell last week, but as Veronica settled into her seat and the lesson begun, she saw that they would be continuing to practice with other animate forms - this time slightly larger animals. She wasn't too sure how she felt about practicing with rats... normally she didn't really like them, but her friend Tomas had a pet rat and she was trying to be nicer to the species as a whole for his sake. It wasn't always easy though, and she was glad Professor Summers made sure to tell them that these were pet rather than street rats. She didn't think she'd have enough courage to go near one of the latter.

Practicing the incantation with the rest of the class, Veronica soon felt ready to begin. She was surprised to hear that they would be working in pairs, but turned towards Phoebe immediately. It might be fun to work on transfiguring the rat together, and at least this way they would get to have some time to talk to each other while doing so. It seemed like a lot of lessons this year were requiring them to focus more attention on their individual tasks, rather than allowing time for easy chat to flow between them while working. Letting Phoebe take care of getting the rat, Veronica cleared both of their desks in preparation and when her friend returned indicated that Phoebe could try the spell first. During her turns, Veronica took the time to concentrate on visualing the change from rat to rabbit, and although her first effort didn't yield many results the more she practiced the faster and more seamless her attempts started to be. She was proud of her efforts, and of Phoebe's. When they ended up with a rabbit for the last time, Veronica volunteered to be the one to bring it to the professor for grading. Theirs was soft and cuddly, and there was really no competition as to which animal she preferred better.

[justify]Mid semester, that would be this week and the next. Viktor Styx did not mind it since they were all in the middle of the material, which meant that the day would be rather predictable. Viktor got dressed in his dorm while thinking of the class he had to be in for the day. Taking up some extra classes was a little on the difficult side, but no worries. Viktor thought that he could handle it fairly well. He was juggling it right now, without much stress on him. Viktor did not have a social life to maintain, so academics it was. After all, academics could show people that he actually tried, showing a charade that he cared when he did not. Viktor finished with his appearance within a short time, and made his way down the stairs and toward the classroom, eventually making it on time and taking his seat.

Today, the class would be turning rats into rabbits. At least the outcome would be better looking, that was an improvement. Viktor waited until the cue to go up and get his rat. They were bred to be pets, but he doubted that he would ever own something as hideous as a rat. The spell was Cuniculus, which was a little harder to remember than Locusta. At least the pronunciation was not too bad. And he could practice anywhere he wanted. Well, with a partner. Viktor looked around to see who he wanted to partner up with before choosing his cousin, Andy. She wouldn't go to the front and take one. The two went outside to go practice, which ultimately resulted in Andy's talking and Viktor's annoyance reaching an end point, with him wanting to turn her into a grasshopper. But never doing so.
