It wasn't at all like Isaac to attend a public school event, let alone go along with the theme. He'd given in though and decided to join in with the Halloween feast very last minute, and had decided to come as the Joker. At least in his costume, if he decided to laugh at others for their outfits everyone would think it was part of the act. Entering the Great Hall with his hands in the pockets of his trousers, he look around the room at the scene in front of him, wondering why so much effort was put in towards a night like this. Wasn't there enough in the school already to scare most kids, like the ghosts, for example? He did his best not to roll his eyes at some of the costume attempts, and decided to grab himself a drink with his head down low. He'd only agreed to come in the hope that he would be able to hang out more with his friend, and if she didn't turn up Isaac knew he'd be leaving sooner rather than later.

After getting over her initial fright of everyone's scary and well thought out costumes, Analei found herself enjoying the night. She hadn't come with anyone, so there wasn't one specific person she was hanging out with, but she enjoyed watching people dancing and mingling, as well as getting to know a few other people at the school. For once, the Hufflepuff felt calm and comfortable, and not like she was pretending or holding anything back. It was a good night.
Someone had mentioned to her that the joker was here. She didn't entirely know the storyline, or who she had chosen to dress up as, but the other student explained he had green hair and a wicked smile painted on his face. Analei had forgotten about the person she should have come as a 'couple' with, until she saw him approaching the drinks table, where she was, leaning against the wall with a drink in her hand. The previous conversation came into her head, and she figured yes, their two characters did look like they belonged in the same twisted world. "Hey." Analei said with a small smile. "We match."

Asides from a vague idea of who Sophie was coming as, Isaac had no idea what anyone else had decided to come as to the annual event. He picked up a drink of something he couldn't establish without test drinking it, but after a sip came to the conclusion was pumpkin juice. It wasn't great. Before he could spit the revolting mixture back into the glass, he caught sight of a girl looking at him. He swallowed reluctantly, giving her a small smile "Hey," he replied back, only now taking in her own costume. Great, he'd managed to come dressed to match a first year. He didn't make his sigh overly noticeable, and tried to play it off. It wasn't as though he'd done it on purpose. "Don't go getting obsessed with me now.." he jokingly warned, making his way over, bringing his drink along with him only because he felt it too rude to leave half drunk back on the table. Hoping the Sophie would arrive soon so that he didn't have make small talk with a girl he didn't know, he did his best to be polite. "I'm Isaac, Ravenclaw," he introduced himself, holding out his hand as an overwhelming sense of manners took over him despite the number of ghouls and skeletons in the room around them.

Analei smiled as the older boy greeted her but it quickly turned to confusion as he told her to not get obsessed with him. She wondered if he was a popular boy, with some sort of story that she had missed out on everyone getting obsessed with him, and she could imagine why because he was very cute. But Analei was much younger than him and hardly knew him so she had no idea what he was talking about. "I don't - why would I get obsessed with you?" Analei asked, confusion still on her brows. But as he introduced himself (his name still not familiar so she wasn't sure if he was actually famous), Analei smiled and shook his hand. "Analei, Hufflepuff."

Isaac gave a small laugh, although whether it was out of trying to appear polite or because he was genuinely astonished she didn't get the joke, he wasn't sure. "Well. Because the Joker and Harley. They're an onscreen couple right, except that the Joker doesn't really.. look, nevermind." It probably wasn't worth trying to explain to her. If she didn't know the franchise well enough to know their relationship she shouldn't have come dressed as her in the first place. Isaac just nodded in her direction. Most people would try to find out more about people during conversations, but things like small talk rarely had any interest for the Ravenclaw. Even though this girl didn't seem to know her films, Isaac took a risk, hoping that at least they could bond over something more than attending the same school. "Okay so, I take it you've never watched Batman. What do you watch?" Isaac usually wouldn't bother trying to steer a discussion, but ever since Sophie had mention doing his hobby on the side, it had got him thinking as to whether anyone else was in the same boat.

Sophie had never dressed up for Halloween before, as she felt it was sort of a silly holiday. But this year she sort of wanted to try it, at least so she could mock the other costumes with her friend Isaac. After deciding for a while, she had settled on a costume that was so unlike her own style that she didn't think anyone would expect it. She hoped it would make Isaac laugh, once she found him.

Her usual grumpy expression in place, she scanned the Great Hall for familiar faces. She knew she wasn't really the princess type, and wasn't surprised at the few double takes her outfit got her. After a while she spotted Isaac, dressed as the joker. But to her chagrin, she saw another girl talking to him. One in a matching costume. Sophie was no expert on muggle culture, but with muggle grandparents she still got enough information out of that world to get the reference. She scowled a little as she walked over. "Hey, is this your girlfriend?" She asked, eyeing the girl skeptically. She seemed a little young. "Never pegged you for the matching costumes type."

Analei listened as the boy named Isaac started to explain why he said what he did, previous comments making sense, but he cut off the explanation rather quickly, and she felt bad for making him have to explain it, but it wasn't all her fault. He then asked her about watching batman, and she wondered on earth why the bat was a man, and she took a small breath, trying to remember what she had watched before. "Um, I once saw little animals that had magic like us, but people tried to put them in balls or something. It was sad. But also cool." Analei responded, trying to think of what it was called, but it was such a long time ago, they didn't even have a TV in their home. A girl approached them, she didn't look very friendly and she didn't even greet Analei. Her words made Analei feel her stomach bubble with anger and she took a deep breath like she was taught to do. "No." She replied back, unsure if her words sounded curt or not. She didn't want to make enemies but her emotions often did more of the talking than her brain. "But if we wanted to match costumes, what's it to you?"

Isaac tried to wrack his brains and realise what Analei was talking about, but he hadn't seen it and had nothing to offer that would help him recall. He was about to ask her about other various films and plays, when Sophie finally joined them. "Obviously not." he said without turning his head. He knew she was joking, and he didn't want to offend the Hufflepuff, but he needed to be clear to both her and anyone else who was listening in that he had no intention of being anyone's boyfriend. "It wasn't intentional that we're from the same franchise Wilson." he began, only now looking towards his friend. Before he could stop himself, the third year gave a snort of laughter at her costume, his eyes scanning her up and down as he took in what she was wearing. It was so.. frilly. He wished he'd had the sense to come as something as absurd, and suddenly felt regret at arriving so unoriginal. Even his partner didn't recognise their relationship, and it only emphasised once again that this was a stupid event where people only dressed up for an aesthetical popularity contest. "You know, you in that dress is scary enough." he replied, once he'd finally calmed down enough to speak. It looked so out of place on the girl and he loved it.

Sophie gave the younger girl an unimpressed look, raising one eyebrow slightly. "I didn't ask you, did I?" She asked her in her dry sarcastic voice. "It's rude to interrupt," she added, fully aware of the hypocricy in her statement. Ignoring the girl once again, she felt oddly relieved to hear Isaac deny she was his girlfriend. They were becoming fairly close, and she figured he would have told her if he had a girlfriend. It was normal to be annoyed by the idea that he wouldn't have, wasn't it? The laughter her costume generated made her smirk, as it was the intended reaction."What, you don't think it suits me and my delicate sensibilities?" She asked him mockingly as she did a cursty, lifting up the purple monstrosity that passed for a dress. "I'm offended, my good sir." She added in a high-pitched voice. Then she snorted. "So many girls just use this as an excuse to look 'cute', as if that's the point of it all." She added in her normal voice, glancing at the other girl before looking in the direction of her older sister and her stupid sailor costume. Please, as if any sailor looked like that.

The next bits of conversation smacked Analei in the face and it took her a few seconds to actually catch up to what was happening. The new girl told Analei it was rude to interrupt, when she had just done the same thing - and she wasn't even polite about her interruption. If she had politely introduced herself, or excused herself into the conversation, they might have all gotten along, or Analei might have even left them alone but now she just felt the rage burning inside of her. "Are you - " But she couldn't even continue. The two of them all but ignored her, and her hand itched for her wand, before vaguely remembering that First Years knew nothing compared to Third Years. Analei knew she had to get herself out of the situation before she did something she regretted, so she pushed the other two out of her way, storming out of the Great Hall to get some fresh air. How did such a pleasant evening turn so bad?

Isaac smirked when Sophie responded to the younger girl. Everyone was always so wrapped up in their tiny little worlds that they couldn't handle not being the centre of attention, and the Hufflepuff who was obviously only at the event because she felt she had to, clearly didn't appreciate that there were other people trying to talk around her. Isaac was only talking to her to be polite, and she didn't have to be rude to his friend. "You, delicate?" he asked Sophie, before he was shoved out the way and Analei stormed her way out the Great Hall. The Ravenclaw was suddenly angry, she didn't have to do that and obviously didn't know how to handle her emotions. "Hey it's not our fault if you can't deal with being around people" he called out after her, obviously stressed that she'd been so physical with them. They'd been having a pleasant conversation up until that point, and she'd just gone and ruined it. He looked back at Sophie, knowing it had been a dumb idea to even attend this event, even if he thought it would have been a good idea initially to mock everyone's costumes. "You okay?" he asked his friend. It really hadn't been that big of a deal but he was drawn to make sure she was alright, given that she seemed to be one of the only people that acknowledged him, let alone agreed with most of things he said. He looked away from her then, wondering whether he shouldn't have turned up at all. Sophie would have probably found her other friends and they'd be able to have a great evening with it all. "This is stupid, I should go." he said, placing his glass down on the table beside them. It wasn't like he was actually going to drink it.

Sophie couldn't say she was all that unhappy to see the other girl go, and she actually smiled a little as she watched the first year go. For a moment she worried if Isaac would think her rude and say something negative, but instead he said something to the girl that really made Sophie sure she wasn't his girlfriend, or anything like that. She didn't mind being pushed to the side for that, it was worth it. Sophie adjusted her wig and shrugged. "Like you said, I'm not that delicate." She said, pretending to dust off the purple skirt. "Are you okay?" She asked, though she didn't expect him not to be. She was surprised when he said he should go, and frowned. "What? I just got here." She pointed out. "I didn't wear this monstrosity so I could only talk to you for a minute."

Isaac looked back to his friend, glad that she was alright, but mainly because he wasn't good at being comforting and if she hadn't been, he wasn't sure if he'd be able to say or do anything to help. "Fine." he replied. He would have said that even if he was though, keen for her not too feel uncomfortable either. He was however surprised when Sophie frowned at the admission of his leave. While he believed they'd certainly meet one another at the event, he had assumed she would primarily have turned up to hang out with her real friends. The third year hadn't thought that perhaps she'd arrived to actually spend time with him. He shrugged, "If you want I can stay for a bit," he offered, glancing at the floor before sweeping around the room with his eyes. As he was looking through the Great Hall for anyone that would gossip behind his back for the company he was choosing, it occurred to him just how little he would mind if they did. His instinct was to close himself off to everything so that he could minimise any information getting back to his parents, but he was tiring of staying in the dark. Taking a page from his own sisters book, Isaac turned his attention back to the Ravenclaw, deciding to make the most of what he had right now. "Hey. Why so serious?" Isaac grinned suddenly, walking backwards in the centre of the room, "Is this song fit for a Princess?" he asked, beckoning her over. There were a number of other students on the dance floor, but Isaac had no intention of blending in as he began to move to the music with purposely no sense of rhythm.

Sophie felt a little vulnerable admitting to him that she had basically come here to talk to him. But thankfully Isaac didn't mock her for that. Apparently the princess dress was bad enough for it to keep his attention. She gave him a rare genuine smile when he said he would stay for a bit, though she did notice he didn't seem entirely comfortable. It was like he was looking for someone, or expecting something. A part of her wanted to ask but she figured she didn't need to make the moment more awkward. Suddenly his demeanor changed, and he started joking around. Her mouth fell open when he walked backwards towards the dance floor and beckoned her over. She hesitated, then followed with a slight frown. "I'm not dancing." She declared, though she wasn't entirely sure anymore if he wouldn't be able to convince her. Already her lips were pulling up at the corners, though she glanced around to see if anyone was around to laugh at her. His dancing was so silly, a laugh actually escaped her and she shook her head. "You're so weird." She said with a laugh, though it sounded more affectionate than insulting. After another moment of hesitation, she started moving too. It was only slightly and barely even visible, but she was trying.
