Lessons Missed:Herbology Lesson One

Kira shuffled into class with the rest of the students, both anxious and excited at the same time. She looked around while she waited for class to begin, and she couldn't help but notice the still pictures of the regular plants around the room. She smiled softly, able to name all of them from her sisters gardens back home.

She looked to the professor as he began to speak, and something about the way he moved, the way he spoke, he actually reminded her of Tyra and it made her more comfortable. She actually forgot to take notes and just listened to him talking, more at ease than she expected to be.

She took the pencil and paper and smiled a little. She took a look at the assignment and filled it in quickly. She gave it to the professor on her way out, handing it to him with a shy smile. She kind of wanted to talk to him, but she couldn't quite build up the courage so she just hurried off back towards the castle.

Quiz

What are you looking most forward to about Herbology?: I'm very interested to know the difference between regular plants and magical plants.
Do you prefer lectures or going outside?: I'd think a good mix of both, depending on the weather.
If you have any questions, please write them here and I will answer them to the best of my ability: What made you so interested in this subject in the first place?

Because plants help save lives and looking after magical plants are not much different to looking after non-magical ones.

Herbology Lesson Two

Gwen hadn't enjoyed the first Herbology lesson and wasn't looking forward to going back particularly as she expected she would have to get her hands dirty as they began to learn about all the different tools they had been given in the previous lesson. She made her way into the Greenhouse and listened to Professor Carter as he told them what they would be doing during the lesson. Gwen wasn't sure why they needed so many tools surely it just made the whole process more complicated than it needed to be. Gwen looked at the pallets in front of her and from what the Professor said it seemed they would be using a different tool on each pallet. Oh the fun they would have. After listening to Professor Carter Gwen got to work following his instructions working on each pallet. When she was finished her hands were covered in dirt and she was not happy about it. Once they were dismissed Gwen quickly left the Greenhouse desperately trying to get the dirt off them.

Herbology Lesson Two

Sage had enjoyed the first Herbology lesson and she was excited for the second because she would finally be getting to done something. Even if she had to use tools rather than her hands she still knew she would enjoy the lesson. She made her way into the Greenhouse and took her seat with a big smile on her face as she couldn't contain her excitement. She listened as Professor Carter talked about the various tools they would be using. Sage wasn't one for tools as she preferred to use her hands when she gardened but if the Professor said it was best to use tools then she believed him as he was the expert.

Sage watched and listened as he talked them through each tool and how they would be using them on each of the pallets in front of them. He was interesting to listen to but Sage was eager to get going so when the Professor told them they could start she was one of the first to begin. When the lesson came to an end and Sage had dug through each of the pallets and managed to dig out one galleon, three sickles and tow knuts which she proudly showed the Professor in her dirt covered hands. When the lesson was over Sage grabbed her bag and after wiping her hands on her school shirt began making her way to the castle.

Herbology Lesson 2

Wyatt did enjoy Herbology so he was glad to go to class - especially knowing they would be learning about such cool poisonous and dangerous plants. It was exactly what the boy had waited for all these years because some things just needed to be that much cooler and plants were one of them. He knew that some people loved them so much they wore them around their head like hippy idiots but Wyatt was interested in the uses and what danger could befall someone because of plants. He thought it was necessary to make things that much cooler. It helped that Professor Welch was one of the better Professors at Hogwarts too. So the boy walked into class and took his seat, curious what they would be learning because he had, admittedly, not done the reading of the text book as he'd been busy with Charms and practicing for quidditch. Somethings took precedence in Wyatt's life and even though he liked Herbology it was just not one of the things that did. Eagerly awaiting what deadly plant they would see he was practically shaking in his seat but let out a groan of disappointment when Professor Welch said they would not, in fact, get to see a plant. Dangerous or not Wyatt felt that they should get to see something like this, especially those wanting to be healers so they could best help but he knew that the Hogwarts staff didn't actually care about practicality, fun or the future of their students so he settled himself.

Wyatt listened as the professor went on to lecture them about Devil's Snare and thought that now more than ever it would be useful to actually see this plant face-to-face as it had been used in a murder of a St. Mungo's patient. What a horrible thing that must have been. He was sure to remember what would repel such a plant and once they were excused Wyatt packed his notes up and left promptly.

Wyatt Finch
Gryffindor Sixth Year
Lesson Three

Curious once more about the nature of the plant that they would be learning about Wyatt arrived early to Herbology but saw that the professor was late instead so he talked amongst the friends he had in the class, not thinking much about what they would be doing until Professor Welch arrived. He wasn't thinking much about his work as he easily planted the Screechsnap as it was such a simple task that he didn't see why they were doing it unless it was because Professor Welch had meant to and hadn't had the time. If Wyatt was a professor he would probably have his students do all his menial tasks as an assignment too. It was probably for the best that he didn’t want to be a professor, actually.

Once the boy had finished, along with the rest of the class, he followed along to the dangerous plants greenhouse. He knew that probably Professor Welch was exaggerating about the strength of the screens because there was no way a school would open itself up to another liable death. It was a wonder the school hadn’t closed after Avie’s death years ago because the professors hadn’t exactly seemed to care much. At least as far as he could tell, anyway. He got as close as he could to the screens safely to see all that was in there and wondered if one might have the ability of ending lycanthropy before he focused his attention. He could still barely see the Devil’s Snare in the dark and behind the screen but he wondered how it hadn’t grown to attack the other plants just yet or how Professor Welch cared for such a thing - more over why he might want to. It seemed useless as he hadn’t heard of a use in a potion. Then they were directed to the Snargaluff which almost sounded fake to the boy if it weren’t for the fact that he was really standing there, being taught about it. He did not flinch when the vine snapped at the screen but he did cringe at the thought of it getting loose as it was a plant that could eat men. Maybe it was revenge for annoying vegetarians going on and on about their diet, he thought with a chuckle to himself once they’d be dismissed and he left the class.

Becoming involved with Ellie had perhaps been the best decision that Jerara had made, it was fun, it was enjoyable, it was a nice break from all the work that he had to do for all of his classes. It was just a little different from everything he had ever done. Of course with the amount of classes that the boy had to do, it was increasingly hard to find all the time to see her, between all that they did, and the fact they were in different houses just made things more tricky. He understood why so many people who were in the same house ended up dating, it was simply easier. He didn’t even get the luxury of sitting with her in all the classes they had, instead he just had to put up with it. The boy was in fact getting ready for the day, he had gathered up his books and was placing them into his bag, he was gathering all of the homework he had done for all the classes, most of which done after the fun he’d had at the feast. As much as he had to catch up, it had been a good night. With that thought lingering in his mind, Jerara grabbed the last few things that he would need and left for the class.

Jerara liked herbology and was happy to be back in the herbology classroom. His gaze shifted to the front of the room where the professor stood. It was very clear that they would be doing something other than just sitting around and listening to a lecture, the professor made them put on goggles, aprons and gloves before following him out. He remembered the plants from the last lesson and was eager to do more with them in this lesson. The boy had dealt with them before once in potions, but he kept his attention on the professor who was showing them how to do it. Jerara didn't want to get anything wrong, he didn't want to end up with it on any part of his skin so he had to pay close attention to what the professor was doing. When it was their turn, Jerara took his time on the task, making sure that he was following the instructions well, making sure that he was doing each step perfectly so as to get it rid and not end up burned by it. It didn't take long for him to have filled his bucket and he handed it in to the professor and cleaned himself down before heading back into the school. It had been a good lesson.

Name: Lavinia Benivieni
House/Year: Hufflepuff First Year
Lessons Missed: 2 and 3

Lesson Two

Herbology was a subject Lavinia really enjoyed, despite her only having been in the greenhouse for one lesson. She guessed her cousin‘s view had influenced her a little though, so she couldn't wait to see what they would be doing that lesson. She arrived to the classroom and took a seat, waving to Professor Carter with a smile. When they began, Lavinia went to stand next to a pallet. She was really curious to know what they were going to do with those. Thoughts flashed in her mind endlessly. She tried to memorise every tool as the professor indicated to each one, wanting to pick the right tools when they were needed in future. She grinned at the mention of a treasure hunt, she wanted to get as many ‘treasures‘ as she could. Except, she had to use the tools. Always one for trying a challenge, Lavinia listened to the man as he instructed them exactly what they were to do and then she did a process of elimination.

The wheelbarrow definitely wasn't going to be helping with her digging. She settled on the rake first, but she soon got tired of that, so she switched it with the spade. Much better. She kept digging until she felt something hard. Frowning, the puff dug harder and faster, until she saw the glint of an egg. Awesome! once she had retrieved that, Lavinia abandoned the spade and grabbed the mattock, moving on to the next pallet - the mattock was not very easy to use, but she used all of her strength, wiping her forehead after a couple of minutes. She took a moment to relax, before she began to hit the mattock against the ground once more. She found something else here, too. Two knuts and four sickles. She took those coins as well, and glanced at her watch, taking note of the short time she had left. She took the spading fork next, though it was similar to the rake. Eventually, she found another egg...and not only that, but another Knut, thus by the end of the lesson Lavinia had found three knuts, four sickles and two eggs. Well, her exercising had clearly helped her in all this. She was proud of her effort and achievement however, and she brought her findings to Professor Carter, a little breathless.

Lesson Three

After last week‘s lesson, Lavinia didn't think it would be possible to enjoy Herbology more. She didn't mind being dirty after hard work, especially when she was rewarded for it. She arrived to Herbology, taking a seat and waving to Professor Carter in greeting. She raised her hand, the answer on the tip of her tongue, but somebody else answered before she could even open her mouth. She shrugged, it was better this way. Ooh, they were planting pumpkins! Not that Halloween was Lavinia‘s favourite time of year. In fact, her family didn't really celebrate it, but the planting part sounded really exciting. Actually, anything to do with Herbology normally sounded like a lot of fun to the first year, without hesitation. Lavinia wrote down the notes that appeared on the board as fast and as a short-handed manner as possible because she wanted to get right down to the practical part. Besides, writing wasn't really her thing, nor was she the best at it. Probably because she was always outside instead, and when she was studying she wasn't writing stuff, she read as studying and the information usually stuck in her brain.

She zoned back in to the professor, finally they were going outside to where they would be planting. Lavinia made sure she had her items while Professor Carter demonstrated to the class how they had to do it. She didn't mind kneeling down in the dirt, unlike some of her classmates. When it was her turn the girl made sure the soil was tilled. Satisfied, she took her spade, getting on her knees, and she dug a small hole, then dropped the seed in the hole. Then she threw the dirt back in the hole, patting the soil lightly without compacting it. Once she was done, Professor Carter spoke again and Lavinia repeated what he did. "Sementis medicates." She did as told, and the sprout did exactly what the professor‘s had done moments before. In the end, a small melon was clinging to the vine. Happy with her work, Lavinia went back to the greenhouse to grab her things, and thanked the professor before she made her way back to the castle.

Lesson Missed: 1-3

Lesson One

Eva couldn't say she wasn't glad to be back. Her holidays had been stressful to say the least, and now that she knew the truth about her sister she just couldn't pretend that everything was okay. She was hoping that because she was in sixth year, the homework load would increase, simply because it would be a distraction and it would keep her busy so she would not have to think about what had happened. She gathered her books for her next lesson and was soon in the Herbology classroom, already taking out her stuff in case she needed to take note of something. Coming back to school to friendly professors was comforting. Eva wrote down what they were to do this semester, as she wanted to be extra prepared before every lesson and once they were dismissed she grabbed her belongings and left.

Lesson Two

Eva‘s first week had not been as busy, though that was normal for a first week back at school. She loved learning and hoped to get into it more from this week. She was always eager to learn new things, and anything that was interesting never tired her. She had done the reading so as long as she knew what they were dealing with, everything else wouldn't be as difficult as if she hadn't done the reading. Of course, there was always more details to know and Eva made sure to write everything that the professor was saying. She did not want to underestimate the subject. The picture on the board wasn't the most attractive thing she had ever seen. The sixth year grabbed her things, thanked the professor and headed to the common room to complete the homework when they were allowed to go.

Lesson Three

Eva arrived to Herbology, sending the professor a smile as she settled at her desk. Today they would be learning about another dangerous plant, unsurprisingly. They were to use the other greenhouse and Eva was curious to see the plants. The Snargaluff mentioned had a funny name. When instructed Eva put the seeds in the pot and gave them the correct amount of fertiliser. That was a simple task and apparently all that they had to do. She shrugged, following the class and professor to the other Greenhouse, once there Eva raised an eyebrow at the Devil‘s Snare, it was what she expected but it was cooler seeing it from close. They were then led to something that looked more or less like a dead tree stump. So this was the Snargaluff. Well, this one was by far more dangerous than the Devil‘s Snare. After this plant Professor Welch dismissed them, without homework, so the girl grabbed her things and was on her way back to the castle.

Rory was enjoying her Herbology lessons this year - for the most part. Dealing with the Bubotubers hadn't been that fun smell-wise, even if she was still grossly fascinated by the pus they'd had to collect. It was just so... gross. This lesson sounded much more appealing, however - she'd used Abyssinian Shrivelfigs before in Potions, so she knew that this wasn't going to be a plant she would have to cover her nose to work with, thankfully. Pruning them didn't sound like it would be so exciting, but she'd be able to chat to Rose as she did so. More lessons in the school should be like this, Rory thought. Just being able to talk and do something with her hands, rather than try to concentrate on a bunch of droning words... she didn't know if she learnt any more, but she definitely had more fun.

Taking a pot down from the wall Professor Carter indicated, Rory eyed the kind of dead-looking plant interestedly. She knew it was supposed to look like that, rather than a bright green thriving type, but it did make her wonder how she was supposed to know which parts of the Shrivelfig to actually prune off - she bet she'd get at least one had-still-been-happily-alive stalk with her haphazard judgement skills. It wouldn't be like she had aimed to do it on purpose... she just could see it happening, was all. Thankfully the professor was going to give them a demonstration, and Rory watched intently. Okay, so the dead areas were brown; that was helpful. Turned loose on her own plant, she forwent the step of putting on gloves and instead headed straight for the pruning shears, turning the tool on the Shrivelfig with enthusiasm. Getting all the brown areas was simple enough - whether they truly had been dead or not - but gathering the figs took a little longer as she wrestled to find the best way to twist them off as easily as Professor Carter had done. Due to her focus on these activities the lesson passed by quickly, leaving Rory actually taken by surprise at how soon the end of class had arrived.

Frankie was always happy to head down to the greenhouses to participate in her Herbology lessons, but with her plantdrake sitting in front of her today she actually couldn't help letting out a slightly disgusted grunt at hearing that she and the rest of the class were expected to take out writing things instead of getting straight into doing something with the plants. Her notes were a couple of words about each point, at best, and Frankie had soon abandoned the effort, instead listening to the professor's lecture to take in the information. She took some time to feel the waxy texture of the leaves for herself, but listened disinterestedly to the instructions to gender the plants. Sure, she understood that there were biological processes used to produce seeds, but that didn't really seem like what the professor was wanting them to focus on.

Securing her earmuffs, Frankie got started feeding and watering Plantdrake, as usual ignoring writing in her journal until she had done absolutely all the practical stuff she could. When she was finished, she was kind of enthused to hear that they would get to come back to the greenhouse tonight to watch the plants party. It was cool enough just to be able to have an excuse to be out of her house after hours, but this sounded like it could be fun to watch and she left the classroom in high spirits.
Heading out onto the grounds in the dark was exciting, and Frankie wished she could have been able to go further afield than just down to the greenhouses. Everything looked so different at night, it was like a completely new world out here to explore. But she made her way to where the rest of the class was gathering and jammed the earmuffs over her ears as soon as they were handed to her. It was still a little colder out here than she would like, even with summer approaching soon - it was one of the only drawbacks about New Zealand she could readily recognise. The party soon started, and Frankie watched the mandrakes with fascination as they cavorted around the interior of the greenhouse. She'd never thought they would be capable of such a range of movement, and she was excited to return to examine Plantdrake in her next lesson - not that she could tell which one they were amid all the other partying plants.

Lesson 5

I couldn't tell whether my plant was supposed to be male or female, they didn't really act like either. I don't mind though. Plantdrake liked having more food today.
The party is super cool, but I can't tell which one is Plantdrake. But they all look like they're having fun.

October felt.... almost sheepish about coming to Herbology this week. She had never before missed a class in her life, but last week she just couldn't bring herself to go to the greenhouse. The prospect of a whole class working with actual pus was too much. She couldn't do it. Surely this week they would be onto something different though, and she was getting perfect grades in every other class. Missing one class wouldn't completely ruin her grades, though dad would be disappointed when he found out, and October was already dreading that conversation.

Missing another class would be disasterous though, so she made her way down to the Greenhouse and slipped into the back rather than her usual spot near the front of the group, hoping Professor Carter hadn't noticed her absence, and wouldn't question her about it. She was relieved that there was no sign of the bubotubers anywhere to be seen and relaxed, paying attention to Professor Carter as he described and demonstrated what they were going to be doing today. It was so much harder to see from her place at the back and October regretted hanging back here, but she felt like she had the gist of what they were supposed to be doing, and when they were directed to she set to work, pruning the plant and carefully twisting off the ripe figs. It wasn't as bad as real pus, but it wasn't especially thrilling either, and October was relieved when the task was over, wondering what got some people so passionate about this subject that they would make a whole club for it. Turning in her things, she made her way back up to the castle to work on her essay.

The leaves of the Abysnnian Shrivelfig have medicinal properties, but its main use is the bright purple juice inside the fruit itself, which can be used in a variety of potions. One we've already learned to brew is a shrinking solution, which uses Shrivelfig, but they have a variety of other uses, such as the Solution to Induce Euphoria.

Lesson Missed: 4

As Sophia made her way into the Herbology classroom for her lesson that day, she wondered if they would be looking after their pumpkins more, or switching focus to something else so they could all grow a little more. It wasn't that she particularly enjoyed looking after vegetables herself, of course, but rather the fact that Rory had seemed pretty enthusiastic about it all once she had mentioned it. It was funny to think of her reckless older sister managing to look after anything properly long enough to let it live and grow, but Sophia supposed her favourite food was an exception. It made her more enthusiastic about the lessons herself, almost in a way feeling closer to her sister in knowing that she had done this exact same thing three years ago. They were continuing on with the pumpkins, Sophia was pleased to hear, and she prepared herself for the practical work quickly. With her work-robes and gloves perfect, and pruning shears in hand, she stepped out of the greenhouse behind the professor and eyed the pumpkin vines spread across the patch of ground that had just last week been rather more empty. Locating her one, Sophia wrestled with the vine for quite a while before she finally managed to shear through the wiry stalk and free her pumpkin.

She wasn't very strong, and she was one of the last to be ready for the next step, which was a little embarrassing - she didn't want to hold anyone up. Thankfully, said step sounded a little easier than the first, as the Levitation Charm was one of the spells she had been practicing more predominantly in the few weeks since she had learnt it, as she had wanted to show it off to her sister. The pumpkin was rather larger and heavier than she had ever practiced on, however, and she had a few difficulties bringing it up to the castle in one piece - thankfully the professor was there to help her, although Sophia wished she had just been able to do it by herself. Inside the entrance hall, though, she soon forget about her troubles with the vegetable. There were house elves here at Hogwarts! It explained a lot, now that she thought about it. As she handed her pumpkin off, she caught the eye of the little creature taking it and said, "Thank you for everything you do, I really appreciate it and I know a lot of other people do to. Um... I don't know how possible this is, but, if you can... could you please make sure something pumpkin-flavoured ends up on the Gryffindor table? My sister's there, and she loves pumpkin so... only if you can, though!" Sophia quickly assured the house elf, not wanting to seem like she was making rude demands that would inconvenience them. "Thank you," she said again, before heading back to the greenhouse with the rest of the class.

Name: Lucinda Sylvester
House/Year: Slytherin Second Year
Lesson Missed: 4

While Lucinda liked the idea of the using Mandrake plants for their magical properties, she had quickly grown to find caring for the stupid plants themselves as utterly boring and annoying. Re-potting it had been about the highlight of her experience with the creatures so far, but now all they did was wiggle slightly whenever they got fed. Feeding the Mandrake properly was annoying, and watching it was boring, and - she was reminded as the lesson began - listening to the professor drone on and on about caring for the stupid helpless thing was about the worst part of the entire ordeal. She couldn't imagine any situation in which she would ever need to grow a Mandrake in future...surely you could just buy them ready-to-go? Who could be bothered doing it from scratch unless that was your actual job? It certainly wasn't a job Lucinda ever wanted to have.

Noting down only a few key words about keeping the Mandrake alive in this stage of its life, Lucinda went straight over to where the food was kept. She absolutely didn't want to 'play' with the Mandrake - not that she could even see how that was possible in its current state. Roughly poking the pellets into the soil, Lucinda gave the plant a little more water than usual, stopping before it looked like she might be about to drown it, and then plonked the pot down in a sunny area of the greenhouse. With all of that out of the way, all she needed to do now was write a suitably-long journal entry and she would be able to relax for the rest of the lesson - looking up all the things she would be able to put chopped up Mandrakes in.
Journal Entry

Lesson Four

The Mandrake is apparently now a child, and therefore requires more food pellets, water and sunshine to grow. Today I gave it increased amounts of each of those than what it had been receiving previously, although it was impossible to tell how it felt about this, seeing as it's literally buried in dirt. It's been more than a few minutes since I left it on its own in the sunshine, but from what I can tell, the Mandrake hasn't died yet.
Update (end of lesson): It's still alive, so I assume today's increased dosages weren't enough to kill it over the lesson time period. It should be alright until I come back next week.

Lesson Four

Athena arrived to the greenhouse and took a seat, she was looking forward to this lesson and she hoped they would get to do something fun. When Professor Carter told the class they would be writing in their journals, Athena‘s shoulders slumped but she tried not to let that get to her too much. She wasn't sure how she could show off her skills from all her hard work if they didn't do anything that was at least a bit challenging. On the bright side, she could rest from studying and write about her mandrake instead, while she observed the plant.

The girl gently touched the leaves and as expected, Sandra, her mandrake, giggled. Athena burst out laughing, quickly covering her mouth and mouthing a ‘sorry‘ to anyone who looked at her weird. Seriously though, mandrakes were childish at this stage, and strangely innocent. Athena was convinced she hadn't been that childish when she was younger. After a few minutes Athena stopped writing to feed Sandra, giving her water as well so she wouldn't be thirsty for an entire day. Once Sandra didn't want to eat anymore Athena placed her in the sunlight before returning to her seat. By that time the lesson was over and she was done anyway so she grabbed her bag, thanked the professor and headed back to the castle.

Herbology Lesson #4

Today Sandra giggled for the first time which proved Professor Carter‘s point of the mandrakes being in Childhood phase. I am definitely not looking forward to her teen stage because the plants tend to struggle more and be rebels, which is so annoying. Anyway, I fed her, gave her water, and then placed her in the sunlight so she can get some rays, and not die before the end of the semester. That‘s about it.

Lesson Five

This was her second last lesson of the year and Athena was sad, because it was her favourite subject. She was doing really well, she figured, and she liked what they were doing, too. She sighed as she entered the classroom and took a seat, placing her bag on the floor next to the stool. Professor Carter was a lot more cheerful than she was, she mused. She took out her writing equipment and didn't hesitate before she wrote down everything on the board, double checking what she was writing in case she missed something important, which could potentially make a difference in her final grade. She glanced at Sandra and narrowed her eyes at the plant, as if to challenge her to change gender. When they were given the go, Athena got up and immediately went to her Mandrake, with her earmuffs on. When Sandra did something that shocked Athena she sighed, irritated. She had always been good at lip reading - and Sandra, or more accurately, Sandro, whistled to the mandrake next to her - um, him - and made a rude gesture. At the latter, Athena scolded Sandro. Then, once she fed him and did everything else she had been instructed to, she wrote down everything in her journal before she shut it closed and they were dismissed.

That night, she was back at the greenhouse, listening to Professor Carter. She put on her earmuffs and watched as one male mandrake popped its head out of the soil and suspiciously enough, knocked on the next pot, and the next pot knocked on the pot next to it, and so on. It was amazing and the most entertaining thing Athena had seen the entire semester. Man, the party was crazy. Athena could not take her eyes off the mandrakes and not only that but she had no idea where to look. It lasted for a while, bur eventually it had to end and Athena could now sleep amused, instead of stressed out.

Name: Analei Louw
House/Year: Hufflepuff First Year
Lessons Missed: 1-5

For her second ever class, Analei was going to be doing Herbology. While she was more excited to get into doing actual magic with her wand, she supposed if she enjoyed History of Magic, Herbology couldn't be much worse. As she entered the Greenhouse, her spirits were lifted as she saw the Professor smiling. So far, it seemed that all the Professors were really wonderful, and Analei knew that it was going to help her and encourage her to want to do amazing work for them. As the Professor introduced himself, she quickly started writing down some notes, copying what the person had said as to what Herbology actually was; though she wasn't sure what mundane meant. Analei took the assignment being handed out and quickly packed her things up. It looked much the same as the homework she got from History of Magic. She smiled and thanked the Professor, leaving to start her homework.

Name: Analei Louw
House: Hufflepuff
What are you looking most forward to about Herbology?: How to not kill plants? How to keep plants alive
Do you prefer lectures or going outside?: Both are good
If you have any questions, please write them here and I will answer them to the best of my ability:
What does mundane mean?

Analei had very much enjoyed her first week at Hogwarts, and was excited to get going into her second week. Though Herbology wasn't her favorite subject, she really like the Professor, and knew that he at least would make it better. She reached the greenhouse happily, though her stomach sank slightly at the words of a challenge. Analei stressed out easily especially in competitions, because she loved to win. She listened to the instructions, knowing that finding money was a good incentive, so she rolled up her sleeves and got to work as soon as they were allowed to. She found that roughly digging with her tools wasn't working out too well for her, though she found a knut or two, she wasn't doing nearly as well as the others. Analei found herself getting tense, so she took a couple of deep breaths, before deciding to move slowly. It wasn't a race. By the end of the lesson, Analei was proud of herself. Although she only found two knuts, she had also managed to rescue one egg. She took them up to the Professor, thanking him before going to wash up.

Analei's second week had gone just as well as her first week. She had been practicing her Charms and focusing on a bit of Transfiguration, that she had completely forgotten about the previous week's challenge. She smiled at the Professor as she entered the greenhouse, smiling at the idea of some fun stuff. Analei quickly wrote down the notes, not having known any of the information he told them. Following the Professor outside, she found a spot where she would be working, and watched Professor Carter's demonstration. When it was their turn, she copied what the Professor had done, lightly patting the soil once she had buried her seed, then pouring water on it. Analei was excited when the Professor said they were going to help their seed's grow with magic. She took out her wand, repeating the incantation a couple of times, before doing a loop with her wand, and saying "Sementis medicates." To her delight, the pumpkin started to sprout and grow from the ground. Upon being dismissed, Analei packed up her items, and happily left to go wash up.

The young Hufflepuff couldn't believe she was already starting her fourth week of Hogwarts. She had been eagerly awaiting her whole life to start, and now it seemed to be flying by so quickly. Most of her studying recently had been on charms, it was a somewhat difficult class for her, and she realized she needed a lot of extra input to understand it and get it right. Once she got it however, she was on top of the world. She hadn't done too much extra reading for Herbology, but she was looking forward to going to class again. Analei grinned when she heard that they would be checking their pumpkins, and she was amazed to see how much her's had grown. After struggling to snip the vine, Analei grinned as she was able to levitate her pumpkin, following the Professor to the Great Hall. She asked the House Elf to turn her pumpkin into a butterfly.

Analei had quickly discovered that her happiness was largely driven on her ability to control the magic. She figured it came from her mother always enforcing her to have self-control, so when she wasn't able to focus and get what she wanted done, it was frustrating. Luckily, Analei had enjoyed a good week so far. She had made herself a good friend and figured that one good friend was all that she needed. Analei arrived at the lesson sending a smile to the other familiar faces she knew. The Professor started the lesson and said they'd be going into the Forbidden Forest. Analei immediately felt nervous. She grabbed the items that Professor Carter said they'd need, and followed the Professor out quickly - she didn't want to lag too far behind and be taken by a werewolf or something. They stopped pretty early into the Forest, which Analei was glad for. She watched the Professor, and started work as soon as they set them to it; she didn't want to be in the Forest for more than she had to be. When she was finally done, she threw her scraps in the compost and put her snip into the trough, smiling at the Professor, but glad to get out of there.
