Practice makes perfect

It was expected for the first few classes of the year to be used as an introductory for what was about to come up next time Memphis and his peers would enter the classroom. Unfortunately, because of the little knowledge shared it felt like it was rather unnecessary. They could have told this during the sorting ceremony which took long enough as it was instead of dedicating a whole lesson to it. Nevertheless, Memphis did what he was told to do. Using the feather and ink to write down some of the rules that seemed most important to him, after all it was his head of house who would teach him this very class and he did not want to disappoint a teacher that would probably be closest to him than any other. Apart from the little knowledge shared, there were a few points that caused him to pay better attention - or at least write them down to perhaps look into, in the library some day. Once the students were dismissed, Memphis too stubborn to think of a question because he did not want to look as oblivious as he truly was, he packed his things up and left the classroom along with a handful of other students that he would share the upcoming seven years of education with. |

For someone who aspired to become an auror, defence against the dark arts was a very promising subject. Alkander believed that in order to be able to deal with something, you had first to fully comprehend it and dark arts was no different. Knowing how they work and how would act people who practiced them was crucial for someone who wanted to confront them in the future. In addition, the first year gryffindor was also interested in stories about good and evil, dark creatures and figures who once ascended to power thanks to dark arts, only to be defeated in the end. He hoped he was going to hear that kind of stories at this class. The professor definitely did seem like the type of person that could part of such kind of stories. As he took a seat, Alkander could imagine the professor's face on a mugshot on a wall somewhere in the Obsidian Harbor as a wanted dark wizard. Unlike the other classes that Alkander had attended, this room was really dim lit and the professor looked stern. The gryffindor thought that he was suitable at least for the post and he looked quite experienced. He wasn't expecting nothing more than a generic introduction but the part where the rules were explained, bored him quickly. The question the professor asked was a basic one but Alkander raised his hand to answer it but another student was addressed. The homework the professor gave wasn't all that hard and he quickly scribbled down the first question that popped into his head.

Sapphire was early for class. Well, she came in with the other students, which was early for her. Usually, she slipped in last, and quickly. But not this time. She spotted Alkander in her class and sat down next to him. Normally she would just grab the first seat she saw, but she was nervous today. She had seen her head of house and she did not want to get on his bad side. She pulled out a blank parchment and her quill after she sat, ready for whatever Professor Styx had in mind. She didn't raise her hand, because she didn't know the answer, she wrote the rules down quickly as they were listed, knowing they were going to be important in this class, and she almost died when Professor told them to ask a question on their assignment. The last thing she wanted was to write a stupid question. She thought hard before picking a question that sounded right.
