Professor Kalif Styx entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, dark robes flowing behind him and his dark, onyx eyes flowing with little to no emotion at all. His eyes wondered around the classroom, before he pointed at the windows with his gloved finger, and shades lowered down to make it seem even darker in the classroom. And now, his eyes roamed down to the time turner, and saw that he was going to have to teach first years today. They were the youngest group of students in the classroom, just eleven or twelve-years-old. This would be one long day for him. Once everyone walked into the classroom, Professor Styx was standing in front of the classroom, with the blackboard behind him, and a sour look on his cruel, stone-like face. Professor Styx watched as everyone sat down in their seats, however if anyone made any sort of sounds or disturbances while he was teaching this important subject, he would ensure that they would not have a good time in his class. After everyone was seated and silenced. Professor Styx waved his hand at the door and it slammed shut. His tone was sharp and cold, and he started the lesson, "Welcome to your first year of Defence Against the Dark Arts class. My name is Professor Kalif Styx, and will be referred to as Professor Styx. I am also the Slytherin Head of House. Most of you seem like you are excited to be learning this class however, I would not hold that excitement in for too long. This class will have essays as well as practical magic. In this class, you will learn exactly what the Dark Arts are, and how you will defend yourself against them." Professor Styx paused for a moment, and he narrowed his eyes at the students. He did not know exactly what they were thinking that this class was, but it was not going to be easy. "I would advise taking out your parchment, ink and quills, because notes are required as well in this course. I will go over the rules in this class, and you will have to remember that these rules are to be followed, no matter what." Professor Styx paused for a moment, to wait to see if everyone had done that, and once they had, Professor Styx leaned against the desk that was in front of the room to go over the rules and guidelines of the class. "The rules are simple. One, respect of the peers and professor is required. Another is no talking while I am talking as that is a sign of disrespect, so if you have a question, raise your hand. Thirdly, we have the rule where we will be practicing spells in class, so practice only the spells that I tell you do to. Fourthly, have your parchment, ink and quill with you every day as well as your wands. You will not know when we will be practicing nor will you know when we will be lecturing. Lastly, all homework is to be turned in on the due date." Once everyone was done writing down the rules, it was time to get to the main part of the lesson. Professor Styx continued, "Now, who can tell me what the Dark Arts are?" Hands shot up into the air, but Professor Styx nodded to one single student to answer the question. The student was right, and he nodded once more to tell the student that they were correct. "Now, what I want you to do is write down a question if you have one about anything for the class, and I will do my best to answer it. This is an easy homework assignment so there would be no excuse for you not to do this. Class is dismissed." Professor Styx waved his hand and the door opened. He went back to behind his desk to finish up any other work that he had to finish up. Assignment: Roleplay the lesson and do the assignment. Take some notes as well. Before replying to this for your lesson, be sure to read the class rules.Defence Against the Dark Arts,1,1 |

Athena was a bit scared of this lesson. Evelyn had told her all about this Professor Styx. The one thing that she said the most was how ugly his hair was and Athena didn't even cared so much about that. But ofcourse she had to look at his hair now, it was the only thing she knew. And that he was creepy and scary. He was also the head of house from Espen, so the blonde had some information before she set foot in this class. Athena walked into the classroom and found a spot in the middle. She had no idea if Emilia would be in this class too but she hoped the girl would join her in some classes. When she looked at the professor Athena frowned for a moment. Evelyn was not wrong, that hair looked awfull. But still his eyes seemed more scary and he was not looking happy. Athena knew she had to do her very best in this class and pay attention. His name was Professor Styx and he seemed like a star in killing positive moods. Athena hoped she would get a good grade for this class after all. The blonde followed the advice and took her stuff to take some notes of this class. But what she heard were only rules and those seemed normal. But still the blonde writed down, afraid of that if she not the man would tell something about it to her. After the rules a question was asked and Athena knew the answer. A bit scary she put her hand into the air. And she got chosen! Athena had regret of it but she knew the answer so there would be nothing wrong right? '' The Dark Arts are the type of magic that is used to cause harm, control, or death. It's forbidden to use...'' Athena felt her voice became a bit shaky at the end. She was less confident than Evelyn was, but wanted to be more like her. She was curious how Evelyn sat inside of this room for the first time. Though Athena was glad she had the answer right. The homework was easy but Athena didn't had any question so she left the room quickly. |

With her head held high, Anastasie was quite confident for what was ahead of her. With her being sorted into a good house that wasn't Hufflepuff where Patrick was, Ana hoped she had the potential to do well in school and knew more than anything that she would top all of her classes and be able to make friends with the right people. Better yet, she had Patrick by her side again and she would be able to make him help her do things if worse came to worse. After all, he had been at the school for longer and so he hopefully knew what he was doing with everything. The girl was packing everything she needed that day into her bag and made her way promptly to class, eager to see what she would be learning at school. As Anastasie entered the Defence Against The Dark Arts classroom she noticed her head of house standing at the front of the room and she took a seat in the middle, ready to listen to anything he had to say. However, his first words were definitely not anything interesting and Anastasie suspected that all of her other classes that week weren't going to be much different. When she noticed others were writing down notes, Ana did so as well halfheartedly. She didn't think she needed to know the rules that much but didn't want to not write them down. After all, other people were and she didn't want to be the odd one out. When the lesson ended, the first year quickly packed away all of her belongings and headed straight to her next class. |

Gwen was more than ready to take on what Hogwarts had to offer. The new first year had her spirits high and was excited for all of the adventures ahead. After all, she was the first in her family, other than her adopted cousins, to go to Hogwarts New Zealand and wondered how different it would be to Hogwarts Scotland where her brother went. The two schools definitely had a lot in common so far from what Gwen saw and hoped that Hogwarts New Zealand would be able to offer her whatever she wanted. Better yet, she was sorted into the house of the brave and this made her even more confident about how she would do as she packed everything she needed for the day and headed to class. The Defence Against The Dark Arts classroom was definitely not unicorns and rainbows. The cold atmosphere made Gwen scoff as she walked into the room. She imagined that perhaps someone had died in there and that's why it wasn't the most comfortable place to be. She took the seat closest to the door so she didn't have to enter the room any further and took out writing equipment just like everyone else. However, when he began talking Gwen yawned, not really liking the professor one bit. He was just too boring for Gwen's liking, and when he started going on about the rules, Gwen was tempted to go to sleep. However, the discomfort of the environment prevented her from doing so and she struggled to keep her eyes open the whole time. When the lesson ended, Gwen had written down nothing and shoved the blank piece of parchment into her bag, heading straight out of the room.

Contrary to her older sister Mariah^s suspicions, Zoe thought she would rather enjoy this class. She heard rumours from her siblings that Professor Styx was a bit on the creepy and suspicious side, but she knew it was unwise to draw conclusions about a person before even meeting them. Out of all the classes she would take, Defence Against the Dark Arts sounded the most exciting. She was definitely going to pay attention in this class. After hearing the rules (which were not her favourite part), she knew there was no room to mess around in this class. She glanced at the other students - but she didn^t see anyone she recognised. Or more importantly, she didn^t see that girl from the restaurant. Perhaps she wasn^t in Gryffindor or Slytherin. Despite feeling suddenly more alone than before, she hoped that maybe she would make friends; especially in her own house. After taking down the assignment, Zoe gathered her belongings and swiftly fell into step with the rest of her fellow first years, moving towards her next class - to which she was not planning to be late for. Diana was happy with the house she had been placed in, as Slytherin seemed superior to all the others. The dungeons left some things to be desired, but to anyone that asked she would claim her living quarters were wonderful and the best in the entire school. She had quickly learned that her intimidating head of house was the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, so seeing him on entering the classroom wasn't a surprise. She wasn't sure how much she cared about this subject, but she was willing to give it a go. The dark atmosphere of the classroom didn't phase her much, and it felt a little dramatic to the girl. The professor introduced himself and immediately let them know the subjectwouldn't be all that fun. Well, at least he didn't waste their time with false expectations. She took out her parchment ink and quills when he said they should, though the didn't actually write down the rules. She figured they were pretty standard and not all that hard to remember. Some Gryffindor answered the professor's question, and Diana quietly gave her an incredulous look. Why would anyone so hard? The homework was easy, at least, even though Diana didn't really have any burning questions in her mind. She scribbled one down mindessly and then packed her things into her bag. At least she hadn't died of boredom yet.

Arielle was excited to start lessons, she knew she would do her best. She didn't have older siblings who went to Hogwarts and so she and her sisters were the first ones of the family, besides their parents. Therefore Arielle didn't know what to expect as she grabbed her books and headed to class, Defence Against the Dark Arts. When she arrived, she took a seat not taken by anyone else and hopefully her twin would join her soon since she wasn't here yet. The class soon got started and Arielle became immediately alert about the professor. Professor Styx. He was an intimidating man, but the first year was confident that it wouldn't bother her while he taught them. They went over the rules after the man introduced himself but Arielle felt no need to write them down, since she had a good memory and wasn't really one to test the boundaries in a classroom. Outside, maybe. Arielle quickly wrote down her question as her homework. The lesson was soon over after that and the Gryffindor swung her bag over her shoulder, before leaving the classroom. Having older siblings who always gave advice to the younger ones, Sam had a basic idea about what to expect when she came to Hogwarts. It was rather useful to have an older sibling in the school, even though her two oldest ones had gone to the one in Scotland. Sam learned a lot from them and she was grateful whenever they told her things she needed to know. One such example was classes, and professors. The latter wasn't necessarily useful from Alex and Jasper, but it was from Xavier. Sam felt that Xavier was a little too polite sometimes when talking about other people, however. Sam took out her parchment, ink and quill once the professor began. He introduced himself to the class and Sam already knew him from the common room. As he mentioned, he was her head of house. Sam wasn't sure exactly how to feel about the fact and she hoped she would figure it out soon because she strongly disliked not knowing something like that. When they went over the rules, the girl wrote them down, not wanting to forget them and also not wanting to cross the wrong paths with Professor Styx. She thought of a question to ask and handed it in, then before he dismissed them the Slytherin packed up and left.

Hogwarts was a chatty place, but all conversations came to an abrupt halt inside the darkened Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. It was mostly to do with the cold aura radiating from the Professor standing in front of the class. Bobby didn't want to make any noise, not even a cough whilst he was speaking and kept his head down most of the lesson, especially when a question was thrown out. Bobby kept track of the lesson by taking notes. It was easy to follow as it was mostly a run through of the rules. Once the lesson was over he packed away his things away and left the classroom. |

Jacob stepped into the dim classroom and immediately banged into a desk. He rubbed his hip, wondering why it was so dark. Was it to emphasize the darkness they'd be learning about? Was it to hide something about the professor? Jacob didn't think so. He'd heard his mum call Professor Styx a friend, so he couldn't be all that bad, right. His mother had even told him that Professor Styx had once been her professor which meant he had to be old. Maybe that's what he was hiding. Jacob finally made it to his seat and realized they were going to be learning with the Slytherins. He didn't mind at all. He'd wanted to be in the house and was happy for the opportunity to get to know them, at least until he spotted that dreadful girl from the park. Making a face, Jacob didn't have time to do any of the things that ran through his head as the professor began the lesson. Professor Styx was not one to mess with, Jacob quickly discovered and he was happy he hadn't had any time to go through with his ideas. He scrambled to take his quill and notebook out and began to scratch out notes, his handwriting sloppy as he rushed. The rules weren't unreasonable but it was the tone that the professor delivered them in that confirmed his thoughts about the professor. Now he was questioning if his mother had ever actually used the word friend. Perhaps it had been some other word. As the man asked a question, Jacob didn't raise his hand even though it turned out that he had the right answer after all. He was happy the points went to Gryffindor though. Eventually the lesson ended and Jacob made sure to not down the homework. It was easy and it was the first bit he completed that evening.

The small quiet unassuming girl who adored wearing black and constantly wore a large black bow atop her head when not in class, entered the DADA classroom and not minding in the slightest the dimness of the environment, took a seat as near to the front as possible. This class was being taught by her head of house and she had no intention of not giving him all her attention. Defending against any kind of magic dark or simply charms was crucial in her opinion and anyone who thought that this lesson was for fun, should not even bother showing up. She had been impressed on meeting the Slytherin Head of House, he was everything she had hoped for in a person of authority and knew that she would work hard for the next seven years to make him proud, the house proud and herself of course. It mattered not to her what other house joined them for the class, once the other students ... Slytherin's included, didn't interrupt the lesson with childish stupidity, she would take a lesson with anyone! When the lesson started, she listened with rapt attention and had been so hanging on his every word that her hand did not shoot into the air immediately. Ithica would have liked to have answered the question, she probably could have phrased it a lot better. Turning her head slightly to look at the girl that did answer it, she gave her a slight smile though she would have preferred to toss even a rudimentary hex her way if she was certain it would actually do its job. When the class was finished, she stood up to leave wondering if there were any questions that she wanted answering in relation to the Dark Arts and by the time she had returned to the Slythering Common Room with her customary sweet smile in place, she knew exactly what she would ask.

The young gryffindor was excited about classes, she wasn’t usually the type to be overly excited about what the classes would bring her, but she had begun doing a little reading of the books that she’d gotten for the classes and really it had just made her more excited to try to, to find out what classes she did like and which ones she hated. Mazikeen was getting ready during the first week of classes slowly, she wanted to make sure she could make a good first impression on all the professors that she had. This meant ensuring that she had her uniform correctly, that she had her wand, that she had all the right books, that she just had everything she might need to face this day with all the excitement and fun that she could. Mazikeen was in fact just finishing getting ready, pinning her hair back slightly, putting on her uniform, making sure that all the books she was carrying were the right ones. Making sure that she wasn’t bringing anything from classes she didn’t have. Eventually after the girl was definitely certain she had everything she left the room. Mazikeen walked excitedly into her first class of the semester, she waved excitedly at the other girls she knew from her dorm who were already in the class before taking her seat. She had heard rumblings about this professor but was not overly impressed by them until she say the man. Maze didn't like the look of the man or the room, but she didn't have much of a choice with this. She had to be at it. She listened as the man began, surprised when he actually introduced himself to them, she had figured he probably wouldn't. She made a note of his rules, thinking that although she might not follow all of them, she should try her best while in his class. The girl didn't raise her hand to answer the question he had posed them, but listened as the man picked someone to answer, a girl from her dorm, Athena. With that however the man finished off his lesson. The gryffindor was surprised when man actually allowed them to ask a question. She pulled a parchment towards her and wrote down a question, deciding to ask about something rather silly since she didn't imagine this man would want to explain anything further.

Derek was moving around the dorm room as he was getting ready for the upcoming day. It wa certainly exciting that he was going to be able to go to class at long last. He had been looking forward to finally being able to learn some magical things at a magical school. The classes he had taken with his grandfather had really not been enough to curve his excitement for what he would be learning over the next few years. The young slytherin was rushing around getting everything together because despite only arriving at the school some days before he had already created quite a mess. He made sure to find all the little books he would need moving forward in the day, all the little bits and pieces that would certainly allow him to have a good first day, a good first week. The boy made sure that all the right books were together in his bag, that his writing utensils wouldn’t break that everything would be just final and then finally he was able to leave the room and head excitedly to class. He knew that this first week would be easy but he was looking forward to it regardless. Derek very excited about his classes this semester, the first class of his school career. He walked proudly into the room and took a seat in the room, as close to the back as he could. The boy knew that his head of house was a man to respect, his parents had taught him the important families in New Zealand. Even if they weren't pureblood, he knew the importance of family and blood, even if Derek didn't believe in it. The boy looked up at the man as he got started, telling them about what the class was, what the rules of the class were, it was bizarre, since he hoped most people would know how to behave in class. The slytherin did however take a note of it, he didn't want to do badly in this first class with this specific man. After that he listened to the man rounding up the lesson, leaving them with the ability to ask the man himself a question. He wrote down his question and then gave it to the professor before leaving. "Defense Against the Dark Arts" was an admittedly ominous sounding name for a class. The implication that magic that was considered "Dark" and therefore "evil" was a serious one, as far as Damian was concerned. With an entire world existing in tandem with the non-magical one, one had to wonder how much of known human history had been affected or manipulated by these self-same Dark Arts. Still, Damian felt that he could get used to this class. The taking of notes was already second nature to him, so he didn't have an issue with that; nor the professor's requirement of silence when he was speaking. He was, on some level, mildly amused that he needed to state these as rules when they should be obvious. His own hand remained down when the professor asked the question of what the Dark Arts were, as he wanted to see what the "official answer" as it were, was. As the professor rounded up the question, allowing them to write a single question for him to answer, the boy pondered. In actual fact, however, there really was only one thing to ask.

Anora skipped into the classroom, smiling in excitement for the lesson to come. She hadn't ever done real magic before, so she was looking forward to her Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson. After Professor Styx had finished speaking, Anora looked around the classroom and noticed that most of the students were now looking nervous or even close to tears. This confused Anora. Why would they be afraid of their Professor? Honestly, Anora thought that the whole "I'm dark and scary so fear me" act being put on by the Professor was just an act to get the students to listen... she bets that Professor Styx is just like a little puppy on the inside. She stifled a groan as the class was told that they had to take notes. Give her practical lessons every day and she'd be happy, but taking notes was one of Anora's least favorite things to do. Heck, she would rather duel a Death Eater than write an essay on something. With a sigh, Anora took her quill, ink, and parchment out of her bag and started writing down the rules in her sloppy handwriting. When the Professor asked the class a question, Anora's hand shot into the air, but alas, she was not picked on. She grumbled to herself but finished writing down the rules. After finishing up, she listened as Professor Styx told them about their homework assignment. Good, Anora thought to herself. This shouldn't take long at all! When the lesson had officially ended, Anora shuffled out of the classroom with everyone else, thinking about what she would write down for her first homework assignment of the year.
