It was the evening and summer was on it's way. In this part of the world, all was calm and quiet, weather-wise. Natalie sat in the Astronomy classroom, waiting. One by one, they arrived. She nodded to them all. They would be going on another field trip, today, but, from what Natalie had remembered previous times she had visited the place, where they would be going today was not dry. "There will probably be a storm," she said, more to herself than the students, "always is. Here," she began handing out grey raincoats. Most depressing. "Are you all here?" Professor Adelia paused to look around, squinting at the students. "Alright, if you're not here, raise your hand." Professor Adelia joked. A few students laughed as she walked to her desk, picking up life-size sculpture of a cat. "Today, Sixth years, we are going to the Atlantic Ocean." She said in a cheerful voice, "As usual, all hands on deck." She motioned the students to touch the portkey and a moment later, they were off. They landed on a large platform, floating above the water. It was see-through with silver railings around the sides. Some of the students looked worried that it would break. Trina shook her head, "It's enchanted. It wont break, it wont fall.. Just so long as you all behave and learn something." She looked about the class, a twinkle in her brown eye. The rain was smattering down upon them as the heavens opened fully. Professor Adelia used a rain-deflecting charm which covered her head and spanned out over the students. It wasn't an amazingly strong charm, but it did reduce the chance of getting a headache. "Sixth years, welcome to the Bermuda Triangle." Trina gestured to the sea around them, there was no land in sight. Trina began her lecture as soon as she had managed to convince a couple of students that they were fully protected on the platform and that there was absolutely no chance of falling in: "A century ago, or so, magical astronomers had worked out that the pull of the moon ruled the tides of the sea. One astronomer by the name of John Bingledack" Trina paused here, giving the students a chance to memorize the name, "became obsessed with the this and believed that if he could harness the energy, he would become the most powerful wizard that the world had ever seen." "Bingledack spent most of his adult life hiding away from other people and secretly working on a spell that would mean he could control the tides, instead of the moon. He thought that with this ability, no-one would challenge him. The ministry, naturally as the ministry does, managed to cover up the actual event and hide the area from muggles: Unfortunately, Bingledack didn’t realise just how strong the magnetic pull was." She stopped and looked out over the sea. "It’s strong enough to pull nearby ships off course and, once they are directly above the place of the backfired spell, powerful enough to drag the ships underwater." Professor Adelia heaved a sigh as she thought of just how many lives were lost to the Triangle. "As it tends to go, stories began to circulate of a mysterious area of the sea where people disappeared. They didn’t really gain momentum until muggles invented Aeroplanes- Those metallic things they fly in." Trina held out her arms, imitating a plane. It was an unnecessary gesture. "Things, as things go, got worse; you see, not only do some ships get dragged into the sea, but planes too. It took some time for 'us' to come up with a shield that not only hides the area but also counteracts the magnetized section. All of Bingledack’s research blew up with him so we never knew exactly what magic we had to reverse. All he left was a diary full of useless rants but no information on the spell." She coughed lightly, looking properly at the students. "I will give you ten minutes to look around and.. enjoy the view. Make mental notes. We will portkey back immediately after." she said clearly, raising an eyebrow and waiting for the ten minutes to pass by. Homework: -RP the lessonAstronomy,6,5 |

Cairo arrived to his astronomy lesson on time and accepted a raincoat as it was handed to him. He frowned with confusion, wondering where the class would be going that day. His question was soon answered when the professor announced they would be going to the Atlantic ocean. He portkeyed with the class and landed on a large platform, floating above the water. Cairo walked to one of the silver railings and gripped onto it as he stared out to the endless looking sea. The professor announced they were in the bermuda triangle and Cairo listened intently as the woman explained John Bingledack's relation to the triangle and the power of the moon to the sea, before explaining that the mysteries and unusual occurences with muggles and the bermuda triangle were all related to the magic of Bingledack. Cairo found this interesting and continued to nod along, wishing he had brought something with him to write everything down. The cover up was also interesting and Cairo smirked when the woman explained there was no way the ministry could reverse the spell; and that they could only hide it from muggles. Soon after the explanation was over the class was allowed to look around for a few minutes before returning to the castle. Cairo left the astronomy tower as soon as possible so he could study the bermuda triangle further in the library. |

Since the yuleball was quickly approaching, the boy had been spending a great deal of time getting things he would need for the event together. It didn’t even matter that he had classes and exams to get through before then. But with Emma, he had lost so much time with her, he really wanted this. He wanted the date to go well. He needed it to. The boy was getting ready for the day ahead of him. Since their next game wasn’t until the next semester he was feeling pretty excited about it, this semester felt so different than all the ones that came before it, he felt happier, he liked this school for once, the colour seemed to return to the world to him. He was smiling more easily, and he actually wanted to spend time with others. The teen pinned the prefect to his uniform as he put the last bits and pieces together. He gathered up the books he would need, the completed homework and walked out of the dorm room, heading to the class of the day. Theo walked into the astronomy classroom and wondered where they might be going this time around. He couldn't wait and he was surprised by the fact they would be going to the Atlantic ocean which seemed like an odd place to go, given that it was an ocean. But regardless of his concerns he took ahold of the portkey and allowed himself to be taken to this new place. It amazed him how almost truly literal the professor had been about where they'd be going. A platform above the ocean. It seemed almost insane, if it were not for the magic which protected it and them. He looked away from the edges and the water to the professor who told them where they were before launching into the lesson. He knew it was pointless to take notes, though he was sure he had the spell for protect his things in his mind, he opted to not, they'd get wet as he took them out of his bag to cast the spell. The boy just listened, making sure to pay attention to catch all the important details to eventually write it all down. He was glad that they only had to be there ten extra minutes, it was just an odd place to be any longer. He took a hold of the portkey to return to the class and left for the dorm, intending to sit down next to the fire place and write down all that had been said. |
