Astronomy Professor 1-4

Astronomy,2,4As if Michelle's life wasn't hard enough with all the marking she had to do, she had her second-year class today, they weren't a bad class, she was just feeling exhausted from all the work. Michelle was simply sitting at her desk doing some marking, she almost forgot about her class and the fact that they had already entered the class, he was completely oblivious to their existence until someone gave a rather loud cough. Michelle looked over the rim of her book to see everyone seated "Ooh... right." She smiled, putting her book down. "Well this is awkward, but I'm here, and I didn't see you come in." she grinned. "Right, today guys were going to look at the death of a star, pretty grim stuff, but we will get through it." She laughed.

"So, how long a star lives depends on its mass. The bigger they are, the quicker they die. This might seem odd, but the more mass a star has, then the hotter it gets. The hotter it gets, the quicker it exhausts its fuel supply." She stated. "Our nearest star, the Sun, will exhaust its supply of hydrogen fuel in around 4 billion years. Then the Sun's core will collapse under its own gravity. At the same time, its atmosphere will become unstable and start to expand. This will transform the Sun into a huge red giant star, we will look more into star types next lesson." She smiled. "This is not good news for the Earth. Closer planets like Mercury will be completely engulfed by the swelling Sun. Earth will be entirely vaporized and all life on our planet will end. But there's no reason for alarm – we have a few billion years to plan our escape!" Michelle exclaimed.

"Over the following billion years, the Sun will gradually die. As a star's core crashes inwards, it eventually becomes hot enough to ignite another of its constituent atoms, helium. Helium atoms fuse together to form carbon. When the helium supply runs out, the center collapses again and the atmosphere inflates. The Sun isn't massive enough to fully re-ignite its core for the third time. So it goes on expanding, shedding its atmosphere in a series of bursts." She lectured. "Now our Sun will turn into a white dwarf, most likely as it is not large enough to turn into a supernova, which I shall describe further. When a star a few times larger than the Sun runs out of fuel, its end is far more spectacular. A massive shock wave radiates throughout the whole star, which heats up to around 1 billion°C. Then it explodes as a supernova. This flash is as bright as a whole galaxy and leaves behind a rapidly spinning neutron star." Michelle smiled.

"That is it for tonight guys, remember to stay safe and do the homework, and not to mention make sure you have enough notes." She smiled. She departed from the classroom along with the students, she strolled down the stairs to reach the Great Hall where she would get something to eat, it seemed like she hadn't eaten properly in the past week, which obviously wasn't true, but it most certainly seemed like it. She sighed as she did so, walking over to the staff table and taking a sip of the glass of fire whiskey that was already set on the table in advance so the professors can drink quickly and coincidentally.

Homework:
-Roleplay the lesson and take some notes.
-Write a small essay about Supernova.

Perry wondered why people went to this class, but then again he was here too. He envisioned himself in bed sleeping with his mates. Everything was better than astronomy he rather scrubbed the whole third floor than the endure more of these classes. He wondered how they could find a professor so mad that they liked to teach astronomy. Completely nuts if you asked Perry. He walked up the stairs and sat down on his pillow. The fact that she didn't know that they were here even added to his point of astronomy. Even the professor didn't seem to care if she gave the classes or not.

Today was about death of stars and god knows what. You know stuff that happens in the sky that will also happen if you don't look at it. That is how the world works, you can't change it. The talk about the sun dying was a bit grim though. Not that he cared he wasn't going to live for billions of years. That was a problem for his great great great well you know the ones that live then. Probably by then space travel is a thing or they found a way to fix the sun. The world already changed so much in one hundred years let alone what it will do in billions of them. Also humans are probably murdering the earth quicklier than the sun is going to die. So it won't be a problem at all. Yay for humans killing our planet, Perry sounded like hippie sometimes. He yawned and left the classroom he was ready for his bed.

After her recent break down, Geo had decided she would try harder in her classes, even those she hated. Taking her usual seat in the classroom, the second year spread out her parchment, listening to the Professor as she talked about stars. Her eyes never left the body of Professor Castor as she was determined to not begin daydreaming. Apparently she wasn't the only student who found Astronomy difficult, especially given that many students had already heard the basics in their previous school classes.

When the class came to an end, Geo stuck around, her head down on her desk as she wrote furiously. She would be out of the classroom as soon as possible, but only once her homework was done. She flicked through one of her textbooks, and picking out some notes about Supernovas she managed to complete her short essay. Returning it to the Professor, she hoped it would be enough to not fail the class. Part of being a witch was knowing everything about magic, and it was time she sucked it up if she wanted to be the best.
