Professor Styx leaned against the desk and waited for his students to enter through the open doors. This subject was darker than the previous lesson, so Professor Styx felt more at ease with it, and his sour mood had left a few days ago. He did not really mind teaching about magical beasts, however the one that he was about to teach today was the beast that he hated most of all, even more than Aurors. Combing them together would make the very thing that Professor Styx hated most come to life. "Today, we will be studying werewolves. I am sure that we all have some knowledge of this creature. Now, the traits of a werewolf and a normal wolf are very different. Who can remind the class on what those traits are?" A few hands raised and Professor Styx chose one student to answer the question. They had answered the question correct, and now Professor Styx had to go more in depth into the subject. So, Professor Styx went onto about how the full moon affects the werewolf as well about the wolfsbane potion that helps a werewolf remain human during the full moon so long as they had not touched or see the rays of the moon. He then went over on how ill they got as the full moon grows near and considered it to be a werewolf's weakness. He also went over the restrictive Anti-Werewolf Legislation put forht by Dolores Umbridge which prohibited werewolves from getting work just about anywhere. He thought that was rightfully put however he did not mention this to the students at all. "It has been lessened somewhat over the past few years. We will still need to rectifying these laws a little more." Pausing to look at the timepiece, he realized just what time it was. It was almost time for them to be dismissed. Professor Styx informed them, "Write a detailed essay on werewolves and how to repel them. This is to be turned in by next week. Class dismissed." The doors opened and the students were free to leave. Professor Styx went back to his own work of grading essays handed in by other students in other years. Assignment: Roleplay the lesson and do the homework.Defence Against the Dark Arts,3,2 |

October's heart had dropped when she saw this topic coming up in the textbook. She had never in her life considered skipping class until today, but the prospect of hearing dad talked about as... a dark creature, a monster, was heart-wrenching. He would be angry if October's grades took the hit though, so she made her way into the class, pale and nervous, and set her things out in her usual seat. As soon as Professor Styx asked his first question, October's hand was in the air. The only thing she wanted less than to hear her Professor talking about her father as a monster was to hear her classmates do the same. "Physically werewolves have shorter snouts and bushier tails than regular wolves." She said, her voice shaking. "But the biggest difference is that while a wolf is an animal, a werewolf is just a human with a curse." October dropped back down into her seat and lowered her head immediately, still trembling slightly. This class was going to be too much. She kept her head down for the rest of the lesson, struggling to take notes, but it felt impossible to focus, visions of dad being hunted for sport rushing through October's mind. She practically sprinted out of the classroom once the lesson was over, dreading working on her homework like never before.

Syrus couldn't wait for DADA class. He was looking forward to the lesson, and today just so happen to be on werewolves. He knew what he knew of werewolves in the muggel world might not be the same. He was shock to know they were just about align in so many ways. With the whole wolfbane and full moon, they were just as described in muggel fables. That lead him to think maybe more muggel knew of this world after all. And all that worrying his mom did for nothing. He shook his head, listening to the rest of the lecture. 'Professor Cold Face' ended the lesson. Syrus got up and left to find an old comic book stored up in his dormitory. What else was align to the muggel world? He wonders.

Tristan knew the drill of Defence Against the Dark Arts by now, and as useful as the subject was he was a little irritated by the lack of spells they were learning lately. With the year being about dark creatures, it wasn't likely that they would learn something during this lesson either. He hoped the information they would get was still useful. Tristan took his seat and took out his parchment and quill, he didn't tend to sit with friends, partly because he didn't have many in his own year and partly because that would just be a distraction. He was interested to hear they would be studying werewolves today, and he raised his hand when the professor asked his question. He had read some things about them as he had skimmed his books for this year. Besides, the difference seemed obvious to him, a werewolf was only a wolf once a month, for example. But some girl got to answer the question, though she seemed not to be entirely comfortable with it. Was she scared of werewolves? He supposed dat least that was a rational fear. The professor went on about werewolves, talking about the way the full moon affects them as well as the wolfsbane potion. Tristan took notes with his quill, he was starting to see some progress in his handwriting wth the ancient pen, but it still wasn't really neat. The anti-Werewolf laws sounded very unfair to him, though he didn't really know much about werewolves. He assumed they were just normal humans during the rest of the month, not dangerous at all. It seemed like the professor agreed as he said the laws needed rectifying. The essay they had to write didn't sound very difficult, and Tristan decided he would start to work on it as soon as he was done and went to the library. Surely they would have a book about werewolves there with more information. He left the classroom, noticing the girl that had answered the question was basically running out. He wondered if she was alright, but didn't chase after her.

Odette entered the classroom and took a seat near the back, her face as unexpressive as the professor's was today. Her fourth year had been a mess so far, and it was giving her a big headache. The only thing she had to look forward too was spending time with Hayden or Margo and quidditch. Mostly quidditch, honestly. She didn't care about this class. What were the odds of her encountering a werewolf? And it wasn't like she was going to actually get to use any of this information even if she did. October was a girl Odette knew, and seeing her shaken up by the idea of werewolves was a little amusing. What a little coward, not so haughty now. She gave her a smirk but she didn't think the other girl saw it.Then she tried to focus on the lesson again. Wolfsbane sounded like it was important, but she didn't see why she had to know it. If she was cornered by a werewolf, she wouldn't have a bottle of the stuff in her pocket. Not to mention that it would be way too late by then to actually use it. The laws at the ministry didn't surprise her, she knew many people disliked werewolves, and she couldn't completely blame them either as they were dangerous. It just wasn't actually the fault of the person, and only once a month and at night. It made no sense to ban them from jobs as it seemed really unlikely that the danger they posed would ever be brought to the workplace. It was purely to spite them. She shuddered, this was just so unpleasant. It was taking her mind away from her own messy life, though, so she couldn't really complain. |

Kristen took a seat in the defense against the dark arts classroom and sat as far away from Professor Styx as possible. There was a lot that seemed off about the professor and just the thought of being in the same room as him made Kristen more than a little bit uncomfortable. With a sigh, he listened to the professor speak and he wrote down a few notes on the werewolf before he left the classroom once the professor dismissed them all. |

Corrine stepped in and took her seat. It was next to one of her fellow Gryffindors, where she felt most comfortable in this class. It wasn't long before the professor began his lesson, and she breathed a sigh of relief that she had made it on time. As he mentioned what they'd be discussing today, Corrine let out a shudder. There'd been a werewolf in her community, a man who had purposely stopped taking his potion and he'd attacked a few people before being captured. How someone could do that was beyond Corrine. It was almost unimaginable except for the fact that it had happened around her. Corrine knew some about werewolves, but as she listened she realized it was far less than she'd expected. And some of what she thought she knew was wrong, the professor saying the exact opposite. Hearing about the laws preventing werewolves from working, Corrine didn't know what to make of it. On the one hand, it was good to keep people safe. On the other hand, there was no way that every werewolf could be bad. Surely, some of them were victims of circumstance, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. One of her father's friends had been one of the attacked. He'd died, but Corrine tried to imagine what would have happened had he survived. She was convinced he would have been the same. As the lesson ended, Corrine left the classroom, still pondering her thoughts. She took a look at the homework later, jotting down her ideas quickly. |
