To the first years entering the Transfiguration Classroom for the first time, the room appeared devoid of any authoritive presence. No professor waited to greet them by the door, which had instead been left open with a note telling them to enter and take their seats, nor did any await them at the desk located toward the back of the room when they walked in. Instead, a large husky sat in the center of the room, tail wagging as it happily watched the students file in. Once it seemed like everyone was present, the canine got to its feet and leapt toward the professor's desk, it's body shifting in the air to take on a more humanoid form. Professor Summers landed on the edge of his desk, now himself once more. "Transfiguration." He started, looking across the sea of eleven year olds with a bright smile. "Is a very powerful branch of magic capable of changing almost anything from one thing to another, whether it be a quill into a spoon, or a person into a dog. Like you've just seen." Aeon got to his feet and wandered back to the center of the classroom. "Good morning and welcome to Transfiguration. I am Professor Aeon Summers, your teacher for the next few years. I will be providing you with the tools and abilities that are an absolute necessity for each and everyone one of you as capable witches and wizards. The other subjects pale in comparison to the power transfiguration holds. Your only limits here is your imagination. You will learn everything from manipulating, conjuring and even vanishing the very matter that makes up our physical world." Summers stopped to withdraw his wand, whipping it toward the blackboard behind him. Immediately, the inanimate chalk was imbued with magical life and floated up to start scrawling across the board.
"Now, some of you may not be familiar with all of the terms written here, so we'll begin the day with some vocabulary. Take notes if you feel you need to, but it's all very easy to remember. Let's start with inanimate. Inanimate means that something is not living, for example a rock, or a chair. Buildings, furniture, it's all inanimate. Animate on the other hand, is the opposite. Anything living. You, me, your pet goldfish. Even the grass we walk on. Simple, right?" Summers looked across the rows of faces, hoping they were keeping up. It wasn't a difficult concept. "Now that we have those key terms out of the way I can explain what the combinations on the board mean. Let me know if you need me to slow down at all. It's all just really exciting stuff, even for me. I'd honestly be surprised if any of you got bored by this subject. It's amazing. First of all, we have inanimate to inanimate transfiguration. Simply put, it's changing one thing that isn't living, into another thing that also lacks life. This is easiest to do regarding objects of the same size to begin with, like so." Summers waved his wand once more, transforming a random students seat into a comfortable armchair. Waving his wand again, a vase in the corner of the room became a small teacup. "As you gain more experience, you won't need to worry about retaining the same general size. Inanimate is the best to start off with, as the target does not move and lacks the complexity of living creatures. Which brings us to inanimate to animate." Another wave of his wand, and the cyan quill sitting in its inkpot on Aeon's desk transformed into a chirping blue bird, its feet coated in black ink. It fluttered its wings a few times before taking flight, circling the room a few times. "As you see here, we are capable of changing something without life into something living. Don't be fooled by it though. The living creature you create lacks a soul and is only alive through you. True life is something we cannot give." As he finished speaking, the bird reverted to a quill and floated slowly back down toward the floor. "That there is simply untransfiguration, something returning to what it once was. But it is indeed possible to turn something such as a bird into a quill through animate to inanimate transfiguration. I'm sure you all know by now that it means turning something alive into something that isn't. Of course you don't kill the targeted creature, but merely halt its life for a short time." The wizard stepped forward and retrieved the quill from the floor, glancing at the clock overhead as he straightened back up. "And finally, animate to animate changes a living thing into another living thing, such as a guinea pig into a rabbit, or a human into a toad. A favourite among fans of muggle stereotyped witches. Unfortunately, that's all we have time for today. In the following lessons we'll be doing actual wandwork, so look forward to that. If you turn your attention to the board, Mr Chalk has gone ahead and kindly left you all some easy homework to do before our next class. Make sure you write it down and do it for some easy house points. See you guys later." Summers finished, gesturing for them to leave once they were done. Homework: Choose one of the types of transfiguration and write about either a real myth or a legend where one thing was transformed into another (or you can make a story up.)Transfiguration,1,1 |

Transfiguration. The art of turning one object or living creature into another. Theodore was quite interested in this part of the magical world and quietly excited about the very first class. He and Edmund had often talked about the sort of things they wanted to try once they were good at magic, and this was definitely one of the things that was highest on his list. He headed into the classroom with his twin, his curious gaze sweeping the room and landing on the large dog in the center of the classroom. He paused, glancing sideways at Edmund in silent communication. An animal in the middle of the classroom during transfiguration? It seemed obvious to Theodore that it was either an animagus, or the subject of a demonstration of animate to inanimate transfiguration when the professor arrived. He eyed the dog for a moment, silently staring at it. Something about it seemed... off, maybe an animagus after all? But Theodore didn't have enough experience with dogs (or animagi) to say for sure. He and his twin found a seat near the back of the classroom. He wasn't as surprised as some when the dog transformed into a human, as he had suspected it already, but it still startled him slightly. Even though he had read about animagi, he had never seen the transformation in real life. Once he recovered from the shock he paid attention to the lecture, taking notes on the different forms of transfiguration even though he knew them already. Still, he listened to the professor's explanation of each of the types, paying attention and taking notes. He enjoyed the transformation of the inkpot into a bird immensely, wondering how long it would take for them to do something like that. The lesson was over before he knew it and he had actually enjoyed himself. He couldn't wait to discuss it with Edmund, a glance to his right at his twin communicated this to him without having to use words. The two walked out of the classroom side by side. |

Being at Hogwarts was quite a shift for the young Hufflepuff, and now that she had to start getting used to lessons too she was starting to feel like things were coming at her really fast. It wasn't like the lessons were very hard yet, but the anxiety about doing well later on was already making her nervous. It didn't show on her face, however, as she was quite good at hiding her emotions and seeming calm at all times. Her calm was tested immediately as she entered the Transfiguration classroom, however, at the unexpected sight of a dog. She didn't seem to be the only person who found it odd, as some of the other first years whispered among themselves. She slowly took her seat, eyeing the dog suspiciously. When it leapt forward suddenly and transformed into a man, she let out a small yelp of surprise, covering her mouth. She blushed and averted her gaze, embarrassed. It was an effective demonstration of the subject, she had to admit that. Once she calmed down a little she started to take notes. She wrote down the different types of transfiguration that the professor put on the board, wondering if they would really learn spells out of all of the types. Animate to animate seemed especially odd and tricky to her, how could you turn a creature into another creature? That seemed too powerful, even for magic. Vanishing was another thing that seemed odd to her, where did things go when they vanished? Could they really put things... out of existence? She pondered this as she listened to the professor explain, especially the idea of giving something that was without life a living body, though not a soul. It was quite fascinating, and she took a few more notes. When the lesson was over, she was sure this would be one of her favorite subjects. The idea of changing things in this fashion was thrilling, though it sounded difficult as well. She quietly packed up her things and followed a larger group of Hufflepuffs out of the classroom when the hour was over. |

Bradley was rather nonchalant as he wandered into the classroom for his first Transfiguration lesson. His hands were just lazily shoved into his pockets as he wandered towards an empty seat near the back of the class and simply fell into it. He was a little put off by the fact there was a dog just sitting at the front of the class watching them, that was not exactly very normal. And there was no sign of the Professor, either, so he was just a little worried about it. Though the questions floating around his head were quickly answered when the dog suddenly jumped forward and turned into their Professor. "Jesus Christ!" He couldn't help the exclamation from falling from his lips as he just stared blankly for a moment. Though he didn't bother apologizing for his outburst, instead he was just trying to work out how he managed that. It was just some illusion he was sure of it, but the dog had seemed so real and he was quite sure the Professor was a real human as well. He looked like a normal human, anyway, but at this point, Bradley wouldn't be surprised to hear the claim he was something else. Nothing else at this weird school could surprise him anymore - except maybe a dog turning into a man right in front of his eyes. The rest of the lesson was just as odd, more 'magic' performed right in front of their eyes. Bradley was still trying to get his brain to comprehend most of this that he had frankly, forgotten to take any notes, not that he had been planning to do that in the first place. He was not the sort of person to take notes and preferred to just wing it and hope for the best. Probably not the best policy and he was sure it would show in his grades, but honestly, he couldn't care less about his grades and doing well. He still wanted to go home and go to a normal school with normal people, not this weird place with witches and wizards and magic. Still rather dumbfounded by the things he had seen, Bradley scribbled down their homework assignment from the board before packing up and leaving the classroom. He needed to have a sit down after all of that. Homework

Stella was curious about Transfiguration as she was about all of her classes. It sounded like one of the more practical courses, and while Stella was very interested in learning practical magic, she was intensely curious about how this particular practicality worked from a scientific standpoint. How could you just turn something into another thing? How did that work with conservation of mass? What about chemical composition? There were so many problems with this, and Stella had a bad feeling that none of them would be covered in the course. Stella grinned when she saw the dog in the centre of the classroom. It was beautiful. She was sorely tempted to go pat it, but had a feeling there must be a reason it was there and that the teacher might not appreciate that. So she just took a seat near the front of the classroom, with her eyes still on the dog. When it turned into their professor she was very glad she hadn't stroked him. Stella stared at him in amazement. That was so awesome! She'd heard of animagi, of course, but she'd never seen one transform before. For the rest of the lesson, Professor Summers performed many more astonishing examples of transfiguration. Stella watched in fascination, taking notes as quickly as she could so she didn't have to take her eyes off him and miss something. Nevertheless, she was pretty sure that by the end of the class her notes were sufficiently thorough for what had been covered. She hadn't written down the things she already knew, like the difference between animate and inanimate, but she had quite a lot written down by the end of the lesson. Afterwards, she thought about it for a long time, more curious about the things she'd seen than about their homework assignment. She did eventually get around to thinking about that, too, though, and came up with an example fairly quickly. Homework

Alexis entered the classroom to find a beautiful dog infront of the class. She and her classmates were glancing at it while they were taking their seats. She made her way beside her fellow Ravenclaw, Joshua, and waited for the professor to enter the room. The young Kramer was busy looking at the dog and witnessed it transforming into their professor. This made Alexis clapped her hands in delight and set her heart on achieving her own animagus. The class then began despite the exclamations among her classmates on what the professor just exhibited. He sure had a way of making a grand entrance. He discussed the types of transfiguration along with examples to demonstrate. Everyone had fun in class and she, personally, was disappointed when the lesson was at its end. Mr. Chalk, as what Prof. Summers, called him, wrote some homework for them. Easy enough to be done in an hour or so. Alexis copied it down and went to the library to do it. H O M E W O R K

Hudson walked down the long line of stairs to the Transfiguration classroom. While it wasn't as far as Potions would be he did begin to wonder if he'd ever get use to all the stairs in the castle, especially living up in the house in the towers. He did think it would be nice to be a Hufflepuff which he believed had an area somewhere in the middle of the castle. But, he also enjoyed not being close to his cousin in Slytherin house. He was excited for Transfiguration he thought it was the most interesting subject he would be taking at Hogwarts. Sitting down he looked around at his fellow classmates. Everyone seemed like nice people but he wouldn't really know since people hide their true characters, much like his cousin who was mean but sweet in front of the adults. They all thought she was the best person ever, their little Princess. But, Hudson thought she was a brat. The Professor talked a lot and Hudson took notes on everything he said. He was very excited for the class and learning everything he could. His parents always told him and his sisters about the different classes they would take at school and Transfiguration always stood out to him. The homework seemed like it would be fairly easy to do and he couldn't wait to head back to the common room and write out the story. |

Chante don't ever recall a time when Transfiguration was used at her home. Maybe, once, with grandma Iris. Yes, she remembers a day like that happen. Gardening one day, grandmother Iris was missing her watering pot. Chante would remember seeing the older witch changing a good size rock to watering pot. She must've forgotten, she knew she meant to ask her grandma what she did. It was years ago. Chante thought about it on her way to class. Upon arriving she didn't see the professor, or any adult. Chante took up a seat towards the front. She noticed the dog as soon as she sat down. Chante practically leaped back against her chair, shocked. She loved animals, some muggel animals. This one, dog, what they call them, are very playful creatures. Chante calm herself from reacting any further. A good thing to! That dog changed to what it truly was, their professor under the guise of magic. Chante gaps. Covering her mouth, like the rock and watering pot, the dog was the professor! It would make no sense in the muggel world. Though it made no sense to Chante, how one is capable of doing such a thing. Guess it's another subject that will eventually work itself out for her. Or not. The professor lecture the class on the basic, and she could tell you already it made not be her strongest subject after all. But it won't hurt to try. She listen in the meantime and left when the lesson had come to an end. |

This was his first week, and while the boy knew from what his sister had said that it wasn’t a very advanced or interesting week, it was a time to make a good first impression and he knew that he would need to do that. It was the good thing to do. He could do it. So the young Ravenclaw was just getting ready. He was brushing his hair, he was tidying out his clothes, and making sure not one stain lingered upon them. He was smiling to himself when he was finally dressed for the day. But that was only the first part, now he had to get his bag ready. The boy didn’t know what he would need but he knew he needed to be prepared for the day, for anything that might end up getting thrown at him. The part-veela took great care in getting his bag ready, ensuring he had the books and his wand. The boy had spent most of the morning getting ready for this, even if he hadn’t needed that long. He had just allotted a lot of time during this first week to getting used to classes and the schedule that he had before adding anything else to it. There was no sense in over loading himself in the first week. Simon walked into the transfiguration classroom and took a seat next to Hudson. He greeted the boy politely as he sat down, and pulled out the books he would need for this lesson. The professor wasn't here yet, but there was a dog. Before Simon could even remotely accuse the professor of being unprofessional the dog became the professor, or turned back into the professor. Simon was of course like most others impressed, but he knew he was a long way from that. Simon had his notes out and was already beginning to write down the types of transfigurations that were on the board. He listened closely, his entire mind focusing on what the professor was saying. he liked transfiguration, or Simon assumed that he would like it, it sounded exactly like the kind of thing that Simon would enjoy. He smiled slightly as the man just kept going with the information, telling them all about each one. He was writing each of them down, truly soaking up all the information the man had to give that he really was disappointed when the man finished and just assigned them homework. Of course he filled out the homework to the best of his abilities.

Attending an actual school had proved to be a challenge for Patrick, especially considering he had been homeschooled his whole life and the new school and everything in it was completely foreign to him. He didn't think it was going to be anything like it was and was extremely nervous for all of the classes that he had to take that year. Luckily, his older sister was there with him, even if it was only for his first year, and he would eventually be able to meet his step-cousins who would be able to help him too for an extra couple of years if he needed it. The Hufflepuff made his way to his first class, making sure to stick especially close to his new friend Wilfred. He didn't want to get lost during the first week and made sure to stick by others in case he accidentally did something he wasn't supposed to without realizing it. As the Hufflepuff boy entered the Transfiguration classroom, he took a seat next to his friend and waited patiently for the lesson to begin. At the front of the room stood a man and Patrick listened to what he had to say, figuring he should take notes on the large amount of information given. It seemed like such a difficult course but Patrick knew that he could do it. Even if not, he could always drop it when the time came. When the lesson ended, Patrick reluctantly wrote down the homework. He thought that them getting homework during the first lesson was a bit ridiculous but made a note in the back of his mind to do it later nonetheless as he packed his belongings and headed out of the classroom with Wilfred. |

Lia double-checked her watch as she entered the classroom. No, she was on time. But the professor wasn't. In fact, it appeared as if everyone was there except the professor. There was even a dog waiting there, which Lia found slightly unnerving, but she figured it must be someone else's pet. Maybe a seeing eye dog? It wasn't wearing a harness, but that didn't necessarily mean it wasn't one. As soon as she took her seat, the dog bounded forward and transformed into a person, causing Lia to jump slightly in her seat. She stared at the professor, her eyes wide. Would they learn how to do that? Transform into an animal? Could all wizards do it? Unfortunately, the professor did not seem intent on elaborating much further on his transformation and instead began lecturing on the other types of transfiguration, even giving a couple of demonstrations. Although she was slightly disappointed that he had moved on to other topics, Lia didn't mind too terribly as everything they were covering was still pretty interesting by its own right. All too soon, the class ended. Lia copied down the types of transfiguration and the homework before heading out, already looking forward to the next class. |

He had no idea what this class would teach him, Transfiguration. The word alone was hardest to pronounce. His accent wasn't thick on the tongue, still he found himself saying it all the way to the class. As he arrived, he took immediate noticed to the dog. Joshua sat down next to Alexis, a little less anxious knowing that she was right besides him. They haven't established much of a connection, and it's only because of him. Alexis came off friendly, all bubbly and what not. Than there was him, hiding behind his desk because dog. To his shock, his mouth fell open when the dog had shift into a human. It was the weirdest thing he ever did see. Again, never mention of this type of magic. Joshua beginning to think his aunt knew nothing of magic.
