Professor Kalif Styx
Member Avatar
Patriarch of the Zhefarovich Family, Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Slytherin Head of House, Former Death Eater, Legilimens, Occlumens

Professor Kalif Styx entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, dark robes flowing behind him and his dark, onyx eyes flowing with little to no emotion at all. His eyes wondered around the classroom, before he pointed at the windows with his gloved finger, and shades lowered down to make it seem even darker in the classroom. And now, his eyes roamed down to the time turner, and saw that he was going to have to teach first years today. They were the youngest group of students in the classroom, just eleven or twelve-years-old. This would be one long day for him. Once everyone walked into the classroom, Professor Styx was standing in front of the classroom, with the blackboard behind him, and a sour look on his cruel, stone-like face. Professor Styx watched as everyone sat down in their seats, however if anyone made any sort of sounds or disturbances while he was teaching this important subject, he would ensure that they would not have a good time in his class.

After everyone was seated and silenced. Professor Styx waved his hand at the door and it slammed shut. His tone was sharp and cold, and he started the lesson, "Welcome to your first year of Defence Against the Dark Arts class. My name is Professor Kalif Styx, and will be referred to as Professor Styx. I am also the Slytherin Head of House. Most of you seem like you are excited to be learning this class however, I would not hold that excitement in for too long. This class will have essays as well as practical magic. In this class, you will learn exactly what the Dark Arts are, and how you will defend yourself against them." Professor Styx paused for a moment, and he narrowed his eyes at the students. He did not know exactly what they were thinking that this class was, but it was not going to be easy. "I would advise taking out your parchment, ink and quills, because notes are required as well in this course. I will go over the rules in this class, and you will have to remember that these rules are to be followed, no matter what." Professor Styx paused for a moment, to wait to see if everyone had done that, and once they had, Professor Styx leaned against the desk that was in front of the room to go over the rules and guidelines of the class.

"The rules are simple. One, respect of the peers and professor is required. Another is no talking while I am talking as that is a sign of disrespect, so if you have a question, raise your hand. Thirdly, we have the rule where we will be practicing spells in class, so practice only the spells that I tell you do to. Fourthly, have your parchment, ink and quill with you every day as well as your wands. You will not know when we will be practicing nor will you know when we will be lecturing. Lastly, all homework is to be turned in on the due date." Once everyone was done writing down the rules, it was time to get to the main part of the lesson. Professor Styx continued, "Now, who can tell me what the Dark Arts are?" Hands shot up into the air, but Professor Styx nodded to one single student to answer the question. The student was right, and he nodded once more to tell the student that they were correct. "Now, what I want you to do is write down a question if you have one about anything for the class, and I will do my best to answer it. This is an easy homework assignment so there would be no excuse for you not to do this. Class is dismissed." Professor Styx waved his hand and the door opened. He went back to behind his desk to finish up any other work that he had to finish up.

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson and do the assignment. Take some notes as well. Before replying to this for your lesson, be sure to read the class rules.

Classes weren't the most exciting part of the school experience for Fleur, but she wasn't going to write them off completely from the get go either. At least Defence Against the Dark Arts sounded pretty cool, like they would be learning how to sword-fight or use a shield to protect from evil people. Okay, so it would probably involve magic rather than swords but a girl could dream, right?

She headed to the classroom with some of the girls in her year, finding a seat near them. It was clear from one glance at the professor, however, that they wouldn't get a lot of time to chat during this class. Fleur wondered if being the professor for this subject meant you had to look scary and intimidating. It probably helped scare off the 'dark arts', whatever those were.

She propped her chin up on her hand as she listened to the professor speak, hoping she would remember that his name was Styx. It would be just like her to get distracted and use the wrong name for the wrong professor. Essays sounded like a bore, she had to resist the urge to yawn at even the mention of them. She took out her parchment, ink and quill when the professor told them to, glancing sideways at Frankie and then at Charlie. This would be a long day. She wrote down the first rule, but then realized she would probably remember these without bothering to copy them all down. She listened, watching the professor. She didn't raise her hand at the question, not really feeling like answering it. She did her best to think of a question before writing it down.

Luke Starshine was particularly excited about classes. It would be his first time taking all the classes that he had hoped would be exciting. Luke entered the Defense Against Dark Arts class. He found a seat in the middle of the classroom and took a seat. He then waited for the class to get started, and managed to take some time to look and his surroundings and get used to the class and everyone that was in the class. He watched as the other students started to file in as there were not many students in the class that were there before he had arrived at the class. He knew that he was still early, or he decided to take out his textbook, and start studying anything that he could for this subject. By just skimming through the book, and studying some of its contents, he knew that this would be a class that he liked.

When the class was finally getting started, Luke took out his notebook and quill, and began to take notes. He took a lot of notes so that he would be able to remember what was said in the class. He also wrote all the rules down. After he had taken notes, he had decided that it would be better to just listen to the professor for the remainder of the period, as it would be beneficial to him as he remembered what he learned better by listening, than by taking notes because when he took notes, it was harder for him to stay focused on what was being said and his mind would wander off into oblivion sometimes. He didn't wish that would happen but did. At the end of the lesson, Luke put away all his belongings, and did the assignment and turned it into the professor so that it could be graded before the next lesson. He then walked out the door and on to his next class.

The blonde couldn't wait for this lesson. She had read a lot about this class and it totally seemed something for her. She had a interest for the dark arts sometimes, they seemed dangerous and that interested the blonde she couldn't help it. And also this lesson was given by her head of house, and she wanted to see what kind of man he was. From other students she heard lots of stories, and most students didn't liked the man. The blonde was sure gonna make the man like her, she just had to be a perfect student and got good grades and stay out of trouble for now. And if she needed trouble she had to find someone she could blame. As the blonde entered the room she noticed already a few students. This lesson would be with Gryffindor, and Charlotte was curious if she would find someone that could hang out with her here. She walked over to a place in the front, where she could see everything very clear and went sitting. When Professor Styx turned around to the classroom, Charlotte looked a bit suprised. He had a cruel look on his face and she started to smile. It was more than the stories she had heard, and she already admired the man. When she looked around the classroom, the students seemed to be scared of the man. It was completly silence and Charlotte knew this was the right man for this class, teaching about the dark arts suited him. Charlotte kept on smiling and looking excited for this class, when Styx went on further.

After the blonde had writed down some things, since Styx had told them to do so she pleased him ofcourse. She was right in front and if he wanted he could see everything she had done. A while later a question was given and she didn't saw that many hands raising in the air. Charlotte rolled with her eyes, that was why she was so much better than others. She raised her hand in the air and she got chosen, so she smiled. '' Thank you Professor Styx. '' the blonde started and looked proud around the classroom.
'' The Dark Arts refers to any type of magic that is used to cause harm, control, or even death to the victim.'' As she finished the blonde knew this was right. And Professor Styx let her know it was right. Charlotte earned some points for Slytherin and people had to be thankfull for that. Their homework was simple and the blonde was directly gonna work on it. When she writed down her question she left it with Styx and nodded at him before she left the room.

First I've wanted to say, thank you for this very interesting first lesson. I'm looking forward to the rest of them.
My question is: What is the most difficult dark spell to perform?

"It depends on the caster and their own internal strengths.""

This was Lenore her first lesson at Hogwarts and it immediately was one of the more darker subjects. Lenore Smiled when she entered the classroom she was overly excited for her first class. Since she was early she sat alone, but Fleur joined soon enough which made Lenore happy. Len was ready for this class and took her quill and parchment paper out of her backpack. She was ready to write a whole lot down and then the class started. The Professor seemed to fit the subject which his almost cruel grin on his face. She liked the fact that they found a Professor so suiting for this subject.

Lenore was writing like a maniac her small hand crashing over the paper. When the professor asked a question, she didn't want the attention so she didn't even dare to raise her hand. The girl that got it seemed like the type Lenore would hate. She didn't like the girls that wanted to be the center of attention. At the end she wrote down a question for the professor to answer. Since no one was going to see the question she could ask whatever she wanted really. She wrote it down quickly and left the classroom.

[justify]Jocelynn was a young witch excited about school just as any witch would be. She found herself in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom surrounded by his house mates and Slytherins. She was quite ready to start learning, she was the oldest and was determined to do the best of her siblings at the school. She had the prove herself this year and she was prepared even though she might not enjoy all the courses. She was sure she would, but she was prepared to dislike at least one.

Magic run through her veins and holding her wand in her left hand on the desk she wrote with her right hand all the class rules and other things the Professor was saying. She had wanted to answer the Professor's question but instead another got called on. A Slytherin who seemed to be very much sucking up to the Professor already. Jocelynn pursed her lips and continued to take notes. The homework did seem very easy and she was excited about the rest of the semester.

The young snake was about to go to his first lesson. He had heard a lot of this subject and he thought this was a very important class for him if he wanted to become a auror one day. He had to protect himself to the dark spells people could cast and so he was gonna pay good attention. When Liam entered the room he found a spot in the middle next to a pretty girl with brown hair and she seemed to be from Gryffindor. As he took his seat, he smiled at the girl charming as always. '' Hi there, I'm Liam. And who might you be?'' he asked friendly to the girl. He was eager to get to know more people but all that beauty from the girls couldn't distract him from the lecture of the lessons. When Professor Styx turned around the boy felt silence all of sudden, he had something that looked scary and he wasn't gonna open his mouth the whole lesson. He didn't want anything to say to the girls anymore, since he was afraid that Styx was gonna punish him for talking through him.

Liam writed on his parchment the important stuff and was sad that he couldn't answer the question but a blonde girl from his house could. She seemed pretty and confident too, he liked confident girls. But he also liked shy ones, he couldn't really choose. He put on his thumb to the girl that got the right answer and listened to Styx again. The homework was easy and the boy thought about a question that he wanted to ask. He writed down a question and left it with his head of house before leaving the room walking after some girls, oh god they made him crazy! It felt like a magnet, but he couldn't help it.

Hermione wasn't sure what she thought of Professor Styx following the house meeting, but as she had him for Defence against the dark arts so she would be seeing plenty of him over the coming weeks. She made her way into the classroom and sat with a couple of her fellow Slytherin first years and listened to the Professor as he talked them through the rules of the classroom. If it hadn't been made clear by that point, there was no mistaking it in the lesson, Professor Styx was strict, and not to be messed with. Hermione took notes of some of the rules Professor Styx talked about, but the general gist was don't get on his bad side. She was pretty sure she could manage that. When the lesson came to and end, Hermione placed her notes in her bag and made her way out of the classroom.

Defence Against the Dark Arts was one of the classes that Jasmine was really looking forward to, especially because the Slytherins and the Gryffindors would be sharing the class together which meant Jasmine and Grayson could actually spend some time together and learn side by side. The twins had decided to go down to Defence Against the Dark Arts together after breakfast and went to take a seat near the back of the room. It wasn't at all what Jasmine was expecting, the room was dark and dingy and the Professor was really mean. She really hoped that all the following lessons wouldn't be like the first one because she didn't know how much she would actually enjoy them, even if Gray was with her the whole time.

Jasmine got out her parchment, quill and ink and began to write down the classroom rules that Professor Styx had lectured them about. They seemed simple enough and she didn't know why each of them had to write the rules down, it just seemed unnecessary. She was thankful when the Professor decided to move on with the lesson and she was about to put her hand up to answer the question but that annoying girl, Charlotte, got there first and gave a perfect answer. Jasmine rolled her eyes and sulked all the way till the end of the lesson. She barely had time to think of a question to ask Professor Styx but she scribbled something down really quick before she left the classroom with her brother.

Defence Against the Dark Arts was actually one of the classes Frankie was most excited for. Everyone knew it was like, the staple class Aurors had to take at school, and though Frankie definitely hadn't thought that far ahead in her life, it certainly sounded a lot more exciting than some of the other jobs in the world. Regardless, the name was cool enough by itself. The prospect of being able to fight people who used the Dark Arts against others was highly appealing to Frankie and so she made sure she was actually on time to the lesson, unlike some she had previously taken part in. Sliding into a seat near the other Gryffindors, Frankie barely had any time to look about the rather dark classroom before the professor began the lesson with a bang - a literal one. Frankie half-smirked a little in response. Dramatic. Although, Professor Styx actually seemed pretty stony-faced and serious despite the drama, but it wasn't really that which concerned her - it was the mention of essays that did that trick. She hated writing, and she certainly wasn't going to start now with all the rules that she would surely be able to remember on her own. The homework Frankie wasn't going to do either - until she suddenly got the notion in her head to use it to make a joke... which she had the feeling the professor wouldn't appreciate. Whatever, if that was the case then he would be the one missing out.

Amelia was dreading Defence against the dark arts. According to Matthew Professor Styx was intimidating and reading between the lines she suspected that her brother was scared of him. She couldn't imagine any man being scary enough to scare someone who stared down dragons for a living but as soon as she walked into the classroom for her first lesson, she understood. Amelia avoided eye contact with the man as she took her seat. The Gryffindor listened as Professor Styx introduced them to the dark arts, she kept her eyes down and scribbled furiously on her sheet of parchment to capture as much of the mans words as possible. Once she had finished her notes and put them away in her bag, she submitted her question to the Professor and left the classroom.

Grayson had been looking forward to Defence against the dark arts because it was one of the classes he would be sharing with Jasmine. Once he walked into the classroom and spotted her he made his way over and took a seat next to her. Grayson still wasn't happy that the sorting hat had separated them so now he wasn't in a position to look out for her as much as he would like to. Once Professor Styx closed the door, Grayson turned his attention to the man and began to take notes as he introduced them to his subject. Seeing the mans demeanor Grayson couldn't help but wonder how Jasmine felt about him being her head of house. Not that Professor Kingsley was fun loving herself, but she at least seemed approachable. Once the lesson was over, Grayson put away his notes, scribbled a question on a torn off piece of parchment and made his way out of the classroom with his sister in tow.

Antonio made his way into the classroom for his first Defence against the dark arts lesson, he was glad to see that the man who would be teaching them was their head of house. It was clear moments into their house meeting that Professor Styx was not a man to be messed with. Antonio nodded at the Professor as he passed him to take his seat. Once Professor Styx began his lecture, Antonio took out a sheet of parchment and began to take notes, the dark arts certainly sounded like an interesting subject and he was looking forward to learning more as the semester went on. When the lesson was over, Antonio put his notes in his and made his way out of the classroom.

Siria Calderón was looking forward to taking this class in particular. Not only was it a most interesting and vital subject, it was being taught by her Head of House, and with this in mind she had very high hopes for herself. The young Slytherin made sure to pay apt attention to the man, and neatly produced her parchment and necessary writing instruments out on the desk in preparation for note taking. She jotted down the rules in her neat print, simple enough they were, and she thought them rather common sense. Obviously writing them out is for the more inept of mind. Siria thought with a small smirk on her lips, thinking it was kind of him to give those types thought.

She was rather disappointed to be beat out of answering the questions, but there were other times, times in the future that would certainly matter more. Once class was dismissed she left quote pleased and anxious for the next lesson, one that would hopefully be less introductory.
