Professor Aeon Summers

Canine Animagus ☼ Spell Inventor Magical Menagerie Proprietor Transfiguration Professor 1-4 Brodie's Familiar

As his students sat down, Professor Summers wordlessly withdrew a large box from under the desk. after removing on top, and on closer inspection, it was revealed to actually be a chess set. The marble pieces stood still, staring blankly out at the class.

"Hey guys, so I have something a little more enjoyable for our last lesson. Who here has played wizard chess?" Summers questioned. Unsurprisingly, only a few hands were raised. It wasn't like most twelve year olds were too enthusiastic about chess. "Before those chess pieces have minds of their own, they are normal, boring, chess pieces that rather resemble the type used by most muggles."

"The pieces are transfigured, by a special team of wizard toy makers, to come to life. Each set generally has its own distinct personality, depending on the preference of the witch or wizard who brought them to life. This type of transfiguration falls under the Inanimate to Animate type of spell."

"This,"
Aeon pointed at the chess set, "is a muggle chess set. The pieces remain stationary, having no animation or personality of their own, until we put some life in them."

Taking out his wand, Summers waved the mahogany wood toward a marble piece at random. "Animare!" He incanted, and at once the piece's facial features changed first. Its mouth melted into gentle smile, scowl, and even goofy jester grin, churning through an assortment of emotions. Next its attire changed, becoming more independent and free flowing. The piece remained in the clothing that had been carved onto it, but it seemed to come to life, separating from its body somewhat to resemble a more living appearance. A lone pawn now stood quivering nervously on the spot, barely holding on to his small dagger.

Professor Summers' eyes moved from the knight to the class with a smile. "As you can see, the incantation 'animare' brings things to life. Naturally, other inanimate objects are brought to life to amuse children. Chocolate frogs are an excellent example that comes to mind. After the chocolate is mixed and set, candy makers use a sort of mild spell form of the spell on it so as to not disturb the flavor. The result is that they really only get one good jump before --"

"Oh my, oh dear, excuse me. I am not d-doing battle with these giants, am I? I do not think I am very well equipped for th-this type of combat, you see-" The nervous pawn interrupted, eyes wide and staring at the rows of children. Professor Summers's made to wave his wand at the pawn before it could interrupt his class further, returning it to its solid state.

"Anyway, the wand movement," He continued. "The type of wand movement best suited for Inanimate to Animate Transfiguration is called the 'One-Tap Method.' You should tap the object that you are going to transfigure once squarely in it's center and then aim the wand at the object, speaking aloud the incantation. With the proper visualization and concentration, the correct wand movement, and a firmly spoken incantation, you should find yourself able to cast most inanimate to animate spells. Now one by one come to the front, pick a chess piece, and try to bring it to life in front of the class. Starting with you." Aeon pointed at a student sitting on the first bench of the first row.

[justify]The boy had made his decision, he was going wait until he was given his last chance to pick future classes before doing just what he wanted, if someone told him no, he would just apologise and change them accordingly, but he wouldn’t until he was told. There was just so much that he was eager to learn about that this seemed like the only way to make that happen. The boy was so new to this world, was it any surprise that he wanted to learn all that he could about every aspect of it. He liked the sound of all the sections of it, why wouldn’t he want to find out about all of them. If he didn’t like them after a year then he had the chance to drop them, or he’d give himself that chance. Jerara was happy with his decision and eager to start on another few classes when the next semester came. He smiled slightly to himself as he got his things together and eagerly went to the class he had that day, knowing that soon he would be able to learn even more than he had before was something definitely enticing to him.

Jerara walked into the transfiguration classroom and took his seat within the class. He was rather interested on what they would be covering and he failed to see how anything could be more enjoyable than the magic. The ravenclaw smiled slightly, they would be doing something to do wizard chess. Which to him was interesting, he hadn't been much of a chess fan when he was just a muggle, but as a wizard the thought of wizard chess had interested him, he just hadn't gotten around to it yet, there was so much that he had to experience so far, this just hadn't happened. He watched as the professor showed them a normal chess set and showed them a spell to animate it. That to him was exceedingly interesting. he smiled to himself as they got to try the spell themselves, he was very happy about that. He took one of the chess pieces when instructed to and returned to his desk, he had what he was sure was a pawn. He tapped it once with his wand and said, "Animare" although it didn't work first time around, it definitely worked the second time, as the little pawn came to life. He smiled at the thing watching it carefully. Eventually everyone had managed it, so they were able to just pack up and leave, which he did so.

[justify]Taking part in the wheelbarrow race with Xavier had just about been the best thing ever. She had been so happy to do that with him, and the entire experience had been exceedingly enjoyable. She was smiling to herself even remotely thinking about it. Xavier had such a beautiful personality to her, his laugh was one of the most enjoyable sounds that she had ever heard, and spending time with him was always so enjoyable. The girl had loved it, and she couldn’t wait to spend more time with him in the future. But this was the last week of classes and she had to focus on that rather than on the other things in her life. She smiled to herself as she got ready for the day, putting up her hair in a loose bun, she put her books into her bag and then grabbed the bag before then leaving the room.

Signy took a seat in the transfiguration classroom and looked up to the professor at the front who had begun talking about what they would covering in the lesson that day. It didn't appear that they would just be studying, but would be sitting down and actually covering something. She was perfectly happy with that. Since covering something was better than just sitting and reading a book as much as she enjoyed working hard. The girl looked towards the man as he explained what they would be doing. She took one of the chess pieces and returned it to her seat. She placed it in front of her and began imagining the piece coming to life as she had watched the professor's piece. She tapped it once and then said, "Animare," she was rather unsuccessful on her first few tries but did eventually manage the spell. Which she was very happy about. She packed up her things and left the class.

Tristan was both happy and sad that the semester was almost over. He was glad to get a break from all his lessons soon, but he hated the idea of having to go home for the holidays. He felt like a real part of the magical world now, and going back to the muggle world would be harder and harder each coming year. Even his parents wouldn't really understand him anymore. Things were just so different, and he wouldn't even be able to do magic during the holidays. He would have no friends.

Transfiguration was one of the classes Tristan would want to take more of, it was just so interesting and powerful. He was surprised when the lesson started and it wasn't the usual end of the year lesson where they just got to study. Luckily he had already studied quite a bit and hadn't really needed the extra hour, but this would be new material that could cause problems on the exam. He felt a little bit insulted when the professor called muggle chess pieces boring. Sure, maybe they were, but it wasn't like muggles could do anything about that. Some professors were so unfair to muggles.

Still, the explanation was fascinating and he quickly forgot that comment. He watched the professor do the spell in awe, amazed at the effect a single word could have. Who could have said they could put life into simple objects when they were only second years? Two years ago he wouldn't have believed this.

He was eager to get started and waited for his turn. When he was picked he went to the front to pick a chest piece, he grabbed a king, and then he had to try. He tapped the piece int he center and aimed his wand at it. "Animare." It didn't work the first time, but one more time brought the king to life. He beamed and watched it in fascination as it talked to him and moved around. When the lesson was over he was sad, he wanted to do so much more with this.
