Professor Styx had everything moved in the classroom for his Sixth Years to begin with their lessons with nonverbal magic. It would be one of the only ways that they would learn it with a professor teaching them. They would have no guardian in the future unless they had a strong family like from where he had hailed from. Professor Styx was standing in front of the classroom, and the furniture had been moved to the walls of the classroom so that it would give the Sixth years more room to get to work on getting these things done and the faster they could learn how, the sooner they would be able to master the art of nonverbal magic. With the NEWTs behind the corners, they would need all the assistance that they could get. Once they were all standing in the room, Professor Styx got right to business by shutting the doors with a wave of his hand, and staring the class down as there was nothing but silence in the room.

"I do hope you all have gotten a glimmer of how hard this magic is, by trying to master Lumos without speaking, the easiest spell of all," Professor Styx could see who all had, and who all had not just by the looks on their faces. It was obvious what they were going to be doing today, and he continued on with the lesson, "Wands at the ready. However before we will go into how to do this, you will need to know a few things. Remember, nothing can get in your mind other than the spell. Now, remember what I said the previous lesson, and you will have some success with this. I want you all to pair up, and one person will be casting Protego, and the other will be casting Stupefy. Four turns each and then switch. I will be expecting silence, and begin." Professor Styx walked around the classroom, before he added, "Watch for wand movements." Professor Styx observed the class, and after some time, a full class period to be exact, he released them without any homework for the night.

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson.

[justify]Darcy walked into class and was surprised but excited to see that all of the desks and chairs had been moved to the side to give them all space. That meant they were going to be practicing some more today and she was glad for that. In the last lesson she had successfully performed the Stunning spell non-verbally, but it must have been beginner's luck because she had struggled to do it since. Instead she had tried to focus on the homework that Professor Styx had assigned them and practiced Lumos and Nox. It had taken her some time, but she had finally been able to manage it. She had been frustrated by how easily other thoughts could pervade her mind in an instant which could break focus. Even just thinking 'Try it' or 'Do it' caused the spell's incantation to no longer work non-verbally. It was a test of her patience and concentration.

Darcy placed her book bag down on the ground beside the desks and paired up with someone to practice the spells they were assigned to do. She was not looking forward to potentially being stunned so she hoped she could produce a shield non-verbally. Darcy looked across at her partner and nodded when she was ready, but her partner had not been able to do it non-verbally the first time. On the second time, the spell hit Darcy square in the chest and she'd had to be revived by the professor to get up again. She scowled because it hurt but she was determined to keep going. It was hard to block a spell when she didn't know when it was coming so she had to be ready. Darcy nodded at her partner once more and really didn't want to be stunned again so she said, "Protego!" out loud, cursing herself for not having done it non-verbally. "Sorry, let's try again," she said to her partner with determination. Darcy set her jaw square and concentrated hard on not saying it out loud. She focused on only the incantation as she flicked her wand and saw her partner's stunning spell bounce off an invisible force in front of her. Darcy breathed a sigh of relief and grinned when she finally managed to do it.

Now it was Darcy's turn to do the Stunning. She had done it once before in the last lesson, and then performed non-verbal magic for her shield charm so she hoped she could do this now. Somehow she felt it'd be harder to do it, but she tried not to let those thoughts cloud her mind. Darcy squared her shoulders and tried stunning her opponent four times, only having been successful twice in the end. It wasn't Darcy's usual standards of success, but given how hard the concept was, she would take it. Afterward, Darcy gathered her bag and left the classroom. She felt like she had a headache from concentrating so hard.

Olivia was taken aback when she saw the desks and chairs has been pushed to the side when she walked into the Defence against the dark arts classroom. Once she and the rest of the class were standing in front of Professor Styx, he began. As she had managed to cast lumos in the previous lesson Olivia had not been practicing the spell in her free time, choosing instead to focus her time on studying the theory side of her lessons. Once they received their instructions Olivia found herself a partner to begin practicing with. They decided she would be the first to try stunning, Olivia was glad as she wasn't looking forward to being stunned herself. The Ravenclaw stared down her partner and cleared her mind, which was difficult as she was in the same room as Darcy. Olivia raised her wand and thinking only of the stunning spell in her mind she fired the spell successfully at her partner. She smiled in relief that she had managed the spell but also that her partner managed to shield herself.

Then came the part Olivia wasn't looking forward to. Her having to do the shielding. If she failed she would be hit with stupefy. Her partner was unable to do it the first couple of times so she was spared. The next two attempts Olivia wasn't so lucky. With the thought of being hit by the spell and doing all she could to block it being the only thing she could think about, she raised her wand. Olivia could have screamed in delight when she produced a shield that the stun bounced off. Olivia and her partner continued to practice both spells with mixed success until the end of the lesson. She grabbed her bag and made her way out of the classroom.
