Professor Faida Kaibryn could not believe that her term at the magic school would be coming to an end soon, in some respects she felt as if she had been here for ages and in many others she knew she had barely registered on any scale at the school. She didn't think she had made an impact with the students and she certainly didn't think she had made any friends or enemies among the staff at the school. Perhaps if she had more time she would have put herself out there more to get to know students and staff alike but there hadn't seemed to be much point when she would be finishing up and the full time professor returning for the next school year. She waited for the students to arrive, sitting at her desk with pen and sheaves of paper before her. When they entered and sat at their seats she glanced up at them and gave a brief smile. "Today I want you to ask me any questions that you might have, any thing in relation to the topics covered so as to clarify them before your exam. You'll have the next two weeks to prepare for the exam and I hope that you will use that time wisely. So for today, ask me what you need to and take notes" she put her pen down and waited to see if any of the students would ask her anything at all. ----------------------------------- Any questions that the students ask will be answered as if in an interactive lesson. For full marks for this class - please ask a question relating to one of the topics covered this term. For extra credit, simply do a reply post to the professors answer given. -----------------------------------Muggle Studies,4,5 |

Lilyanna loved Muggle Studies lessons and was more than ready to go to her fifth lesson of the year. When she entered the classroom she was a bit disappointed that they weren't going to be learning anything new and were instead just going to be revising. Shrugging, Lilyanna took out her large pile of notes and began to read over them for the umpteenth time. She knew everything about the subject and was more than confident that she would get everything right in the exam, but ushered the professor over to ask a question nonetheless. "What is the... Haka... and why do they do it?" she said, wondering if that question was even going to end up in the exam. |

There were certainly almost as many events in the second semester as the first, it was difficult to manage all of them, and she knew she’d have some trouble putting them into the yearbook, but she’d find the space for them all. The teen was eager to do the best job that she could, she knew that doing well in the yearbook would be good for her, it would be something to show for her time in the school other than hopefully her good grades, her improving grades. The teen was eager, she was keen to get started on the classes of the day, she like spending her time on the yearbook, but she’d hit a brick wall of such when putting together a few of the pages for the wheelbarrow event, so she was taking as long a break from it as she could, finding that an easier thing to do than stare at it blankly for a few hours. However, it did mean that she had little else to do and needed other things to do with her time. Thankfully getting ready for classes usually took up quite a bit of time when she did it. And only when she was completely ready did the girl head for the class. After so many exciting classes of muggle studies the girl was very disappointed when upon getting to the class that day it turned out that they wouldn't be doing anything more than studying. Of course they had covered a lot so it made sense to go back over some of the work, but that was for lesson six surely! In any case, Sianna just set about working on her notes and revising them as best she could. She raised her hand at one point and asked, "How much of the CPR stuff should we revise? Just the steps or should we be prepared to have a practical element including that?" Sianna asked before nodding at the homework and continuing her revision in accordance. Eventually the class came to an end and Sianna packed up her things and left. |

At first it would seem that the students would simply get on with their studies before asking her any questions and Faida was happy enough with that, it allowed her the opportunity to continue with her own work. On glancing up a small while later she saw that Lilyanna Hope wanted her and so moved from her chair and went to the girl. The sixth year asked her a very good question and Faida turned to the entire class to answer. "There isn't just one haka, there are many but the original did start as a war dance that the various Maori tribes would perform on the battlefield. It was done to intimidate and terrify their opponents and it was also to boost their own morale. It was if you like a form of praying or calling to the gods to help them win over time however this particular haka changed. It had to evolve because there weren't wards the way there used to be between the tribes, instead they created hakas about strength and the power of their community, the dances and words changed so as not to intimidate but are more emotional" she paused to see if any might be taking notes because you really never knew what would come up on a paper or not, "there are hakas only for men and some only for women. It isn't just performed at a rugby game but it is also performed at weddings, funerals and lots of local events. Ke Mate is the haka the All Blacks use and it is wonderful, it is meant to intimidate their opponents and to boost their own morale much like the old Maori warriors did before a battle, the Ke Mate is about life triumphing over death or for the All Blacks, victory triumphing over defeat." She smiled at Lilyanna " I hope that answers your questions." As Faida looked about the classroom once again another student beckoned to her with a question and Faida smiled at her. "I would of course say do as much as possible but I am glad you asked me that, next week instead of a day of revision you are having the first part of your exam which is a practical in CPR. Once you've passed that it won't appear on your theory exam the following week - I promise, so be sure to know exactly what you have to do next week" she waited to make sure they had all understood that before heading back to her desk once again. |
