Professor Summers stood cheerfully by his desk as he waited for his students to come in for yet another lesson on switching spells. Once everyone was settled in, he began.

"For today's lesson, we will be learning cross-species switches," He started, smiling. "You worked with the small items last week, but I'd like to move on to something doubly as challenging. First," He pulled a rather large cage full of guinea pigs from under his desk. "We will use animals rather than small items as our subjects. Second, we will switch them into guinea fowl, another type of animal that I am sure you are all familiar with. Cross-species switches occur when a wizard takes one animal and simply swaps it out for another. Understand? Good."

Someone raised their hand. "Professor? Where are the guinea fowl that we're supposed to swap with?"

Professor Summers took out his wand and looked up, briefly confused by the question. "I don't know."

He received a few blank stares in return until he realised what they had meant. "OH. They're outside." He informed them, watching as heads turned toward the nearest window, gazing out at the empty lawn. He chuckled, shaking his head. "No no, I don't mean literally on the grounds. There are guinea fowl outside in New Zealand. Or England. Or even Ireland. When you are casting a switching spell, you will not always have the item that you would like to swap with close at hand. However, there are plenty of guinea pigs available. I imagine that there are a few hundred thousand in New Zealand alone."

"Use the same technique you employed in the last lesson to swap your guinea pig with a guinea fowl somewhere. Sounds complicated, right?" The class nodded slightly and murmured to themselves. "Complex, but not impossible. If you cast it properly, your guinea pig will appear to grow feathers and wings, and turn into a fowl, just like it would with a regular transfiguration spell. You and I both know, however, what is really taking place. It might take a few tries, but I've no doubt you will be able to pull off the spell effectively. Come take a guinea pig, and get started. If you need me, don't hesitate to yell out."

[justify]The Ravenclaw was ready for the day, she had spent so much of her morning sorting through some of the pictures from the last quidditch game, since it had been such a game, so much excitement, that it had to be something that would be documented in the accio yearbook. She was happy to focus on that, and watching the game had been enjoyable. The teen had never really fancied quidditch, it hadn’t been something for her, but she was rather looking forward to attending more games in the future to take pictures of them if they were as interesting as the one that had just taken place. The girl put that away as she got ready for the classes that she had that day. It wasn’t going to be a very hard week she assumed, it hadn’t been before, even though they were now fourth years, she wasn’t exactly struggling with the workload that she had. Sianna made sure she had all the right bits and pieces for the classes she had, she had a lot of work to take with her, they had had a lot of homework. The serbian girl grabbed her wand, and left the dorm for the classroom.

Sianna walked into the transfiguration room eager for them to just get started, she knew that it would be abother day in which they would learn some more switching spells. Perhaps ones more complex than the last that they had done. She took her seat and looked to the professor at the front. Happy to listen to the explaination of what they would be doing that day. Switching two animals with one another, but she realised that there was only one animal with the class itself, but she was hardly bothered enough to ask, though she was thankful someone else did. With that the professor gave a shrot explanation and told them that it would be more difficult which Sianna thought would be obvious, but she was just ready to get started. She took out her wand and gathered a guinea pig. She wasted no time, there was no need to get to know a creature that she wouldn't have to keep. She pointed her wand at it, imagining and visualising it switching with a guinea fowl. It was far more difficult than the last spell. She had to concentrate far more and to ever get one switch took quite a while. Though eventually she got the spell to work and felt pretty proud of herself. With that the lesson was over, and Sianna packed up her thing to leave the room.

Eleanor was glad to be attending another Transfiguration lesson. They had learnt some pretty interesting spells during the past lessons and she was eager to learn another one. The Hufflepuff took her usual seat in the room and listened intently to what the professor was saying. She was a bit confused that they didn't need a guinea pig and a guinea fowl to swap them and hoped that she would be able to get the spell. When it was turn to switch her guinea pig into a guinea fowl she held it in her left hand and pointed her wand at it with her right, imagining a guinea fowl in her head. The first time she tried to do it there was no difference and it took all of Ellie's will power to be able to change even just a small part of it. By the end of the lesson the guinea pig had grown in size and had one wing and feathers which Eleanor had never seen before. With a slight chuckle at the appearance of her guinea pig, she gave it to the professor to change back and left the classroom at the end of the lesson, planning to practice the spell later when she could.

[justify]After the last lesson they'd had, Lennon was looking forward to going to Transfiguration today because he wanted to see what else they'd learn today. Once he had gotten back to his dorm he had gathered every quill he had and began practicing his switching spells until he felt he could do them confidently. Now he wanted to learn how to do more complicated switching spells. He was cautiously optimistic so he didn't even bother to take out his parchment, ink, or quill in the hopes that they'd get straight to work on practicing the spell. He was glad to hear that he thought correctly and sat up straighter in his seat as he listened. He was rather surprised to hear that they would not have the second animal with them so he'd strictly have to use his imagination. He balked at the idea because he didn't even know what a guinea fowl looked like. Well, he'd seen one before but he couldn't recall from the top of his head but now that he thought about it he thought he remembered a photo of one in his Transfiguration textbook.

Lennon reached into his bag to pull out his Transfiguration textbook, shielding the cover from anyone in embarrassment. His book said Potions on the cover, but when he opened it up it was still his Transfiguration textbook. In his dorm room when he had been practicing on quills, he had gotten ambitious and tried to switch his Potions and Transfiguration textbooks. When he saw the two covers on opposite ends of where they originally sat, he got excited thinking he had succeeded, but when he opened the books he found that he had only switched their covers and not their content. Lennon flipped through his book to the chapter on switching spells and finally spotted the picture of a guinea fowl. Now that he had an idea of what it looked like he was ready to switch the guinea pig. He grabbed the large rodent from Professor Summers and went back to his desk, putting it down. He had closed his textbook because he didn't want to 'cheat' in any way by having the image of the bird within sight. Lennon focused on the guinea pig while also trying to concentrate on the image of a guinea fowl in his mind. At first nothing was happening and the guinea pig was beginning to try and wander. But Lennon grabbed it and placed it back in the center of his desk and tried once more. It took a few more tries but finally Lennon though he had a pretty successful looking guinea fowl sitting on his desk instead. He smiled mostly to himself and then brought it up to the desk for the Professor to take a look at. He didn't know if Professor Summers was going to switch it back into the guinea pig or keep the guinea fowl but it didn't matter much to him as he left the classroom.
