Professor Kalif Styx
Member Avatar
Patriarch of the Zhefarovich Family, Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor, Slytherin Head of House, Former Death Eater, Legilimens, Occlumens

Professor Styx waited in front of the desk, leaning against it for his sixth years to arrive. They should be on time, which was what he preferred. The doors opened to allow those that were early to come on in. After everyone was into the classroom, was seated, the lesson could begin. Kalif looked at the door and it closed with nonverbal and wandless magic. His eyes went to the students as they seemed to wonder if today was the day that they would be learning nonverbal magic. Well, it was, and Kalif was positive that most if not all would fail on the first time. It was what he expected, and it was nothing to be ashamed of. Nonverbal magic was exceedingly hard. And he would have to tell them exactly how to get it done or else they would not hope to succeed in passing the NEWT. "Notes are required today, so take out your equipment."

Once everything was out, Professor Styx continued with the lesson, "Today, you will be learning nonverbal magic. It is extremely difficult, and though saying the spell in your mind might make you think that saying it aloud would be one and the same, however it is not. More times than not you will allow a thought to creep in on top of the spell. Thinking something along the lines of 'I cannot do this' will change the spell completely. In order to succeed in this art, you must use pure concentration, determination, and the right pronunciation. Even your brains must think the right way to say the word otherwise any old thing could come out." Allowing the students a small pause, Professor Styx waited a few moments in silence as the quills continued to write down on parchment of the right way to perform nonverbal magic. Professor Styx continued, "You will be working with the most basic of spells you have ever been taught, Stupefy. With the right concentration, some of you should get it right."

While today they were not going to be practicing the magic, they were just going to be thinking about it, perhaps even trying to levitate something using nonverbal magic. Another basic spell, but he would have preferred trying it with Lumos and Nox. Professor Styx concluded, "I will not give you any essays to write tonight, however I do expect you all to practice saying the spell with your mind. Also, I would like for you to practice this with the spell, Lumos. You will be amazed on how difficult it will be with such a simple spell. Dismissed." Professor Styx waved his hand at the doors and they opened to allow the students to exit the classroom.

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson and practice using the spell. Extra credit if the roleplay practicing the nonverbal Lumos is linked outside of the classroom.

Bob Masters had been practicing non verbal magic each night outside of the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. It was a lot to learn, and it was quite difficult to begin with, but he had managed to pull most of it off after a certain amount of time spent on each one. With a smile, he took his seat in the class and listened to the professor as he explained the lesson, and then he drew his wand as soon as they were told to practice Stupefy. He pointed his wand at his target, and said the incantation in his head. He grinned when the red light shot out of his wand and headed straight for the target, hitting it square in the chest. With a smile, he packed up his things and headed off to practice the two spells that the professor had asked them to.

[justify]Danielle was scribbling something in her song book when the door to her DADA class. Greeting her professor, she entered the room and made her way to her place in the middle of room. She got her stuff ready for class as she waited for everyone to have taken their seats.

Then the lesson began with Professor Styx telling them to get their equipment out for notes were required. She waited for everyone to get ready and then the formal lesson began. They were to practice nonverbal magic which she has done some advanced reading and some practice. She practiced Alohomora before coming to class to which she was more of a failure than a success. She was hoping she could do well with the other spells. She was mulling over her practice when she heard the professor said, "Today, you will be learning nonverbal magic. Even your brains must think the right way to say the word otherwise any old thing could come out." She hurriedly scribbled on her parchment to catch up. So that is why I cannot really do it a while ago. She then looked up at the professor as he gave final instructions for the day. They were to practice Stupefy on some targets in the room. Then off they go practicing.

"Concentrate. Be determined. Pronounce it right in the mind." Focusing on her wand and the target, Dani cast the spell in her mind at the same time pointing it at the target. Nothing happened. Taking a deep breath, she tried it again. Still nothing happened. Switching her wand, she shook out the nerves from her wand hand and focused again. Stupey Pointing at her target. Sparks flew and her target slammed towards the back of the classroom. Danielle was surprised and at the same time proud that she finally achieved it. She was about to try it again when she heard the professor giving them homework for the day. To practice Lumos nonverbally. With that they were dismissed and filed out of the room. Danielle decided to practice right away she went back to the Hufflepuff House to practice.

[justify]Darcy waited outside the classroom as she waited for Professor Styx to open the doors. She was reading the chapter on the last Protego charm they had learned as she waited, and closed her book once they were let in. She took a seat in her desk and took out her parchment, ink, and quill when the professor told them they'd be taking notes. She wondered if they would practice any new spells, but did as she was told, putting her wand away in the mean time. Darcy was pleasantly surprised and eager to finally be learning about non-verbal spells. He had told them they'd be learning how to do them this year and she had been wondering when they'd finally practice them in class. She listened very carefully and took diligent notes as the professor spoke. She was glad they would get to practice and took out her wand again when she had the chance.

Darcy had been reading up on non-verbal magic and trying to practice the magic the entire time despite not having covered it yet in class because she had wanted to be prepared for when it finally came up. So when the time came and she got to practice, Darcy concentrated very hard on thinking only of the incantation for the Stunning spell. Before she could let any other thoughts creep in she flicked her wand at her target and a shot of red came out and hit the target. Darcy gasped and clapped quietly to herself, feeling proud for finally having performed a spell perfectly on the first try. She had struggled to create strong Protego shields in the last two lessons but she had felt extremely prepared for this type of magic and she was glad to have done it successfully. As they were dismissed, Professor Styx assigned them homework and Darcy nodded her head. She would definitely go back and now begin trying to do anything the could possibly perform without words, and hoped she'd be able to master Lumos and Nox by the time she returned to class.

Olivia leaned against the wall in the corridor outside the Defence against the dark arts classroom while she waited for Professor Styx to let them in. The Ravenclaw watched as Darcy read in preparation for the lesson, perhaps another time she would have done the same, but it was far more satisfying to gaze at the Slytherin. Olivia was snapped out of her trance when the door opened so she made her way into the classroom and took her seat. Professor Styx informed them they would be learning nonverbal magic and would be starting by learning basic spells. Olivia had read about nonverbal magic and had long hoped they would learn to do it while at the school. when they were told to practice she took out her wand and sat quietly practicing the lumos charm. For the longest time nothing happened to her wand and she grew frustrated. Olivia kept calm and continued to practice until finally her wand lit up, the only problem was she was unable to cast the counter spell nonverbally. With Professor Styx bringing the class to an end and Olivia running out of patience she muttered "Nox," put away her wand and made her way out of the classroom.
